As a 90s kids, while waiting for movies at cinema, I used to spent hours at HOTD arcade. Brings back good old memories. Definitely has a RE-ish vibe. I like it :D
It's not flawless like I expected but honestly I'm just so greatful this franchise is on Nintendo Switch that refuses to die as a light gun Rail Shooter genre!
I'm surprised that they remade HOTD considering that it's been 26 years since the original was released. Add to the fact that this new remake was released for the Nintendo Switch makes this remake even more iconic and unforgettable.
I'm surprised too. Has an arcade game ever been remade before? And for consoles, no less? It might be the first and so far only one of its kind. Still, I'm glad they did. The original 1996 House of the Dead is the only game in the series that is not easily-accessible. It was only ever ported to Sega Saturn and PC. I don't game on PC and never had a Saturn, so I was never able to play the first game at home. I had the rest for the original Xbox and PS3. So that felt like a huge hole in the HOTD collection that this remake has now filled. Now I've got the entire series, minus Scarlet Dawn, (it hasn't received a home port) at home.

@Adam Rizky Mubarak all games these days are nothing like they were. they probably turned it down due to complaints of Difficulty. Most games these days are alot easier than the older ones. Some games do have a challenge but not as much as anyone would think compared to something like streets of Rage 3 or F-Zero GX. Those are true beasts.
My honest comments on this game: I rate this game 7.5/10. The graphic looks great, I'm quite amazed how it changed dramatically from 1996 when everything is less detailed. The creatures, boss, and environment are all detailed. The bosses' appearance looked very much the same as the original, but with more updated details, graphics, and textures, except the Hangedman for it looks more like human bat hybrid (I believe it's female because of body shape and voice), while the original looks mythical or fantasy-like creature. By the way, I like how some House of the Dead series boss look like fantasy rather than experiment made. Characters look great, they look much like original except for Curien, he looks more mad scientist than the original and I like it. Of course he's not entirely evil because he has motives in the third game. There are things I want to point out something I want to point out. The intro is not the same as the original; like it has no creepy film reel with the December 18, 1998, lacks the theme, Curien's line muted. Maybe there is if I'm not paying attention. On Chapter 1: Tragedy, the sky should be cloudy day time, not night time. I know during Hangedman boss fight, it is night, but consider in chapter 1, it's sunset. While I appreciate and respect the undead creatures look realistically undead, experimented, and dirty, there are some of them I like the original more, like the first zombie you kill named Neil, I like his full black outfit and full black hair on the back of his head. The lighting emission is a little too much for some areas. I prefer the music original because it sounds 90s and has disco music like and the remake is a so-so. The reaction and movement is kind of slow unless it's because of normal difficulty. I expect Magician should be difficult, he is surprisingly easy to fight, so I like his design, but I'm not impressed with the action, not as good as House of the Dead 4 Special. When I looked at the credits, it shows the pictures of Curien Mansion room rather than walking back to where you came from just like the original which is also my preference. Also, the ending should be blue sky rather than still dark, but I get that the battle takes at least two hours. In the conclusion, this is an amazing remake, from 1996 to 2022, old to new, but there are some issues. By the way, House of the Dead is my favorite arcade game for not just my childhood, but because of the year 1998, when I was born, so I was pretty much 10 months old it happened. Ha ha.I am looking forward to see House of the Dead 2 Remake. I am looking forward to see House of the Dead 2 Remake and my hope for it that it'll be better than this.
What i love about this game is its replay value. You play through it first, then try to beat it again on a higher difficulty. The original was scary as hell to me as a kid lol
Also the different paths. Don't forget them. The original game showed a short cutscene of what routes you took after you die. I remember spending hours and hours playing the game to find all the alternative routes.
Like Redwan Hossain said, there's also the different paths/routes you can take. There are different endings as well depending on how high your score was and how many scientists you saved. All of that adds to the game's replay value. The whole series had that and I always appreciated it. Love this series.
It’s nothing like the original but this did come close and better graphics and I remember playing the original on the arcade machine at Walmart mart and the zombie with the ax is the scariest one
The voice acting is isn't much better, and I do miss the original BGM, but aside from that, this is a spectacular remake; the updated designs of the zombies, the gore effects, and the slightly desaturated color scheme really make this one of the best horror video games of all time! And give the developers extra points for removing the seizure-inducing flashes that occur every time a bullet is fired!
I'm actually on the opposite spectrum and missed the high contrast and saturation of the original game. This one felt like there's way too much red, softer edges/lighting, and hard to make out some of the smaller creatures. I also missed the flashing lights but I understand we don't want any seizures. Another thing I miss is the end credits where it feels like Rogan's pov exiting the now empty house after killing the Magician. That's incredibly unsettling as a child. Overall this is a faithful adaptation to the story and I'm glad they kept the cheesy dialogue.
@@giselletorres4156 how old were you when you first played these series? because i was like four or five and because of that to this day i am terrified by this game, the third game and the fourth one, im actually on the edge of my seat, unsettled watching this
Have to say, it's weird having the melty death look worse than the original, but the rest of the game has definitely improved, especially the mini cutscenes every once in a while.
Man, I remember going to a KOA campground in Cali, and the campground had a little cafe/shop/arcade area, and I would play this the whole weekend there....memories.
I feel like they did a hell of a lot better on remaking this game compared to how Scarlet Dawn was. Even the voice acting is more improved by arcade game standards.
If only chariot type 27 still had its Scarlet Dawn look to it instead of how it looked in the original. Idk it’s just me, but regardless they did a really good job at remaking it. I would totally buy it.
LOL!!! Sega's HOTD Scarlet Dawn which was a disappointment has a much higher budget than this game. I mean even Magician is even slower than the originals.
Nemesis: has a literal rocket launcher, a flamethrower and a tentacle in a wrist Mr X: An awesome fedora Lady Dimitrescu: Wolverine claws and 9 feet tall The magician: Look ma! I can fly!
Man I understand they lost the original code to rebuild the game from...but there is slight issues...it seems maybe too easy. The bosses are nerfed big time ESPECIALLY magician! He is not that slow! They need to buff him at least in a small patch or something, let him move faster on a harder difficulty! The magicians boss music is also 1 of the best and you could barely hear it with all the shooting and "RELOAD, RELOAD" lol wish the RELOAD sounded more closer to the original as well but ah not everything can be perfect. Besides minor gripes the game is pretty cool for what it is. And for it being rebuild from the ground up they did a pretty dope job and is pretty close to the original. Thanks for the gameplay!
As was mentioned in another comment thread here, that was due to the difficulty setting. There's apparently an arcade difficulty, which plays closer to the original.
It looks like the developer has just remastered the graphics. The difficulty level is just as same as it was. But, thanks to them for making us feel nostalgic
This (the original) used to be in an arcade at my father's country club when I was little. I remember being too scared to play it and just hanging back and watching other people play.

Those 2 metal guys behind the electrical stuff in the hallway leading up to the magician is THE SINGLE dirtiest thing in the game. Even when you know its there it's still a guaranteed hit like 80% of the time.
Aside from a few weird new soundtrack choices (seriously what is with that funky guitar riff at 3:04 in the new Chapter 1 track?! So out of place!), this remake looks amazing! So excited to play this on my Nintendo Switch when it unlocks! The first House of the Dead game was my childhood and what started my love for arcade games, let alone gaming in general.
This feels like an Android game. I was expecting a smooth and graphically impressive like HOTD Scarlet dawn. Anyhow I do wish that they port this to PSVR or PC
10:14 I like what thay did by putting a door between the kitchen and the dining room in the original it was just a blank missing wall that had the dining room pop in when he left the kitchen.
Not bad, could have used some improvements, there are a number of issues such as; 1. Rails aren't long enough, (I can't tell if it's because of the number of enemies or the actual rails just got shortened) 2. Attack animations and over all movement are either too fast (Big guys with weapons move too fast and have too little health), or too slow (The smaller guys that used to jump all around on and off walls.) 3. There are clearly fewer enemies. (I remember enemies never didn't come at you and the running was quick to get to the next encounter area, or just slow enough to give tension) 4. bosses aren't bossy enough, don't have enough health, or animation movement. They could be faster and more threatening in general. over all, looks nice, but just lacks the slight touches to make it really feel like a House of the Dead game. Might get it for PC
man we really appreciate the work that you have done, you upgraded the graphics, nostalgia is the main problem, if you ask me i will play the old one any day over this, but man you did a really good job very happy to see the old memories being reborn job very well done ❤❤
@Andrea severino that would have been neat to see. I think they didn't do that however because they were staying as close to the original as possible. The original only had 1 girl zombie and that was Sophie in the bad ending. I Know overkill had girl zombies but it's not really the same.

I am looking forward to see House of the Dead 2 Remake and my hope for it that it'll be better than this.
it's an upgrade to the original, but the art style isn't quite what i imagined
ok
Man, the nostalgia on this game we used to play back on those Computer shop here in the Philippines.
Ah yes, the Black Mesa of Rail Shooters.
This is kinda the first best gameplay or pro gameplay run i seen through yt 🔥
Woah! This is a great remake! Still nostalgic.
The classic hits of remastered version of Light Gun Shooter since you back in 1990s
The remaster is this good?! I am 23 now, and i'd love to play this again!
1:41 - “shooting *cretures* hands will make them unarmed” Nice
@@giselletorres4156 how old were you when you first played these series? because i was like four or five and because of that to this day i am terrified by this game, the third game and the fourth one, im actually on the edge of my seat, unsettled watching this
The original arcade we played on new park was great
But this remake are impressive
This IS a good one!
Well done in completing this game, brought back my memories of the original HOTD 1, thank you!~
The characters' animations in the cutscenes reminds me of The Sims for some reason. But I'm still glad that they remade this nostalgia.
Did you reload?
Sophie: oh Rogan, how many bullets did you bring?
Rogan: Yes
Is it just me or was the Magician a helluva lot easier to hit here than the original game.
Maybe because I played in Normal difficulty, I tried arcade difficulty, enemies more aggressive
Yes this look so easy
yeah he floats kinda slowly in this one, the original literally slaps your ass at the speed of light
@@KendoGunSop huh... Probably, because honestly it looked like he wanted to get shot with how slow he was moving.
omg...when sophie is swooped away by that bat thing..nostalgic
The game looks and plays amazingly! They did a great job on this remake!
And now we wait for House of the Dead 2 Remake.
Waiting for 2 and 3 remake
I remember playing house of the dead 2 when I was 6 with my mom. We couldn't even beat the final boss back then
I am I am the one the only the emperor !
Have to say, it's weird having the melty death look worse than the original, but the rest of the game has definitely improved, especially the mini cutscenes every once in a while.
Man, I remember going to a KOA campground in Cali, and the campground had a little cafe/shop/arcade area, and I would play this the whole weekend there....memories.
this remake, while not awesome, it´s good enough to play from time to time, good work
4:18 is my favorite. That was cool he shoots the lock of the door and kicks in.
One of my favorite moments on The House of The Dead too
@@KendoGunSop They were cool. They should have done a movie based on this. Not the other movie
Nemesis: has a literal rocket launcher, a flamethrower and a tentacle in a wrist
Mr X: An awesome fedora
Lady Dimitrescu: Wolverine claws and 9 feet tall
The magician: Look ma!
@@4thfor Ahh! That is good to know nice!
17:36 Rogan looking at a card that says SECURITY CARD
" This must be the Security card!"
I don't remember House of The Dead being this super easy
It actually is. We were just too young to play it well.
It looks like the developer has just remastered the graphics. The difficulty level is just as same as it was. But, thanks to them for making us feel nostalgic
This (the original) used to be in an arcade at my father's country club when I was little. I remember being too scared to play it and just hanging back and watching other people play.
Very very impressive! You made this look easy! You have my utmost respect 👊
WOW🤩THAT WAS AMAZING🤩PERFECT AIM🎯👍👍I feel sorry about the Sophie character ending up as a zombie🧟♀
My ultimate favorite childhood video game i played on pc when i was 6, and now im 20 im excited to play the remake/remaster of The House of the Dead i'll download this if ever have a pc version Last night i played the OG game and got a good ending. I hope in this new game i got it too
Those 2 metal guys behind the electrical stuff in the hallway leading up to the magician is THE SINGLE dirtiest thing in the game.
Even when you know its there it's still a guaranteed hit like 80% of the time.
Thank you son much kendo
U r welcome
Sophie's bad ending scared the shit out of me when i was a kid 😂😂
Not what I was expecting, but the environment remaster is flawless. The gameplay could be better and the OST.
same here, the Chariot seems smaller than before 😂😂
F for the froggy 2:09
They improved everything!!!
The voice acting and all of the game!
Good gameplay, hopefully one day this game will be available for PC.
I love this game and it got a remake 7 months ago
it makes my heart warm seeing people remember that this game exists :D
Aside from a few weird new soundtrack choices (seriously what is with that funky guitar riff at 3:04 in the new Chapter 1 track?! So out of place!), this remake looks amazing! So excited to play this on my Nintendo Switch when it unlocks! The first House of the Dead game was my childhood and what started my love for arcade games, let alone gaming in general.
He only had 1 hp left. Good work 🎉
This feels like an Android game. I was expecting a smooth and graphically impressive like HOTD Scarlet dawn. Anyhow I do wish that they port this to PSVR or PC
Foreals I feel that
10:14 I like what thay did by putting a door between the kitchen and the dining room in the original it was just a blank missing wall that had the dining room pop in when he left the kitchen.
The tone is very different from the original :(
Not bad, could have used some improvements, there are a number of issues such as;
1. Rails aren't long enough, (I can't tell if it's because of the number of enemies or the actual rails just got shortened)
2. Attack animations and over all movement are either too fast (Big guys with weapons move too fast and have too little health), or too slow (The smaller guys that used to jump all around on and off walls.)
3. There are clearly fewer enemies. (I remember enemies never didn't come at you and the running was quick to get to the next encounter area, or just slow enough to give tension)
4. bosses aren't bossy enough, don't have enough health, or animation movement. They could be faster and more threatening in general.
over all, looks nice, but just lacks the slight touches to make it really feel like a House of the Dead game. Might get it for PC
Now I want The Typing of The Dead I & II Remake to come to Nintendo Switch. 😅😂🤣😆
Well, they would need to add keyboard support for that... maybe a PC release would be fun using the remakes as the basis.
Graphics in the old game still creep me out more than this but I’m still gonna buy it
This game would of been even more badass if they made it into vr version.
thats a super idea
I bet the magician in the hardest mode is a nightmare.
*Cries of getting killed two times by the magician in hotd2*
Such terrible VA....
I LOVE IT!
Yeah they keep terrible 90's VA style haha
Also remarkable cheesy
man we really appreciate the work that you have done, you upgraded the graphics, nostalgia is the main problem, if you ask me i will play the old one any day over this, but man you did a really good job very happy to see the old memories being reborn job very well done ❤❤
You do understand that he has not made the game
Oh like the good old days😁. But it's a shame that in the Remake, they didn't do zombie women.🧟♀️
@Andrea severino that would have been neat to see. I think they didn't do that however because they were staying as close to the original as possible. The original only had 1 girl zombie and that was Sophie in the bad ending. I Know overkill had girl zombies but it's not really the same.
I like that they got rid of the entire screen flashing white everytime you fire a shot, I was scared of Having a Seizure in the original game
The Reload of the Dead
Finally, you uploaded a vid of that!
You earned one sub.
