I am so impressed with the Malecon. What a great space to get some exercise while taking in a beautiful view, and how amazing that those views have been preserved for the general public!
Agreed! There are so many places where as much building would take place right to the edge of the cliff. That would line the pockets of the wealthy, while ignoring the public good. I'm so glad that Barranco and Miraflores chose a different path.
Such a beautiful video! The colorful street art was very impressive. Looks like a very vibrant place to visit and live. One of your best videos--we can tell you love the place.
Wonderful videos on Peru! We are looking for a place on South America to retire and your videos have made us stop and consider Peru. Would you please start adding prices to your videos. It is very important for viewers to evaluate the cost of living in the locations you identify. Thank you!
Thank you so much! Barranco and Miraflores are both phenomenal neighborhoods. I try to add prices when I can, but to be honest, I get caught up in capturing clips at times and forget to make a note of the costs.
I’m hoping to visit Peru in April 2025. And I’ve been tossing up what area to stay in. This video has convinced me. I’m definitely staying in this neighbourhood. It’s everything I look for when travelling. Great video, very informative.
Awesome video. Planning a visit to Lima Peru next year in March. Ive got to check out Barranco and more. Great job! You've got me stoked and ready to go now....
This is so cool.! I was born in Lima, but left in elementary school. Didn't get a chance to experience Lima as an adult, but at least I know where I'll go when I decide to visit.
It's always great to visit a place where you once lived, to see how it has changed and what you recognize. It would probably all look new to you, after having left during elementary school!
I had watched quite a few videos about sights to see in Lima over the years and this is the first one that showed me that there is IN FACT a sandy beach in Lima. Every time I watched a video about the city my thought was always the only thing it needs is a sandy beach. The rock beaches are different, but a sand beach is kind of the standard for hanging out on a sunny summer day. Oh and your style as a presenter is I believe the best I have ever seen on UA-cam. I mean you do your homework which is part of the appeal, but you have a very effective presentation. Did you retire from a career in broadcast journalism because your style reminds me of the guy on CBS Sunday Morning who does the in depth human interest stories. I mean you have a really effective way of presenting because that guy is a top notch television presenter.
Wow! Those are some wonderful comments from you! Thank you so much. I was fortunate to find that stretch of sandy beach. I don't know how many more are in the city. I did work in television for my career, but it was never at the level of CBS Sunday Morning.
@oldaloneandfarfromhome your presentation style reminded me a lot of the very well put together stories of Steve Hartman. And they are definitely the best travel videos I have seen on this platform and honestly better than any travel show I have ever seen on the back channels of cable. I hope you continue to enjoy your travels and I hope more people discover your amazing videos.
i used to frequent Barranco way back in 1999. It was run down, with many abandoned and ruined buildings. But ir was crawling with nightlife, music and bars. Sure looks a lot nicer today...
Greetings, I'm guessing, you're out of Peru by now,...In Barranco, there's a museum call M.A.T.E., it belongs to our great photographer, Mario Testino, He was the private and personal photographer for the Royal English family, during the time of Princess Diana, and also Queen Elizabeth, He also was for Madonna (Vogue magz.), and other famous people from the time, and nowadays, Mr. Testino still run his offices in NYC and London,.... Thank you, very beautiful videos about Lima and Lima districts, I loved all of them,.... saludos desde usa,...
Thank you for the kind words! That museum sounds fascinating. I am sorry that I didn't get a chance to visit. Maybe next time! I appreciate you watching and leaving a comment!
You caught me! I went to University for communications and worked in the television and video industries until I retired last year. Thank you for the kind words and for taking the time to leave comments!
Great stuff, thank you! Fyi, I think your editor is having a little fun with you. At 8:50 you say "I spent a half hour viewing...." and it cuts to the breasts. Made me laugh out loud. Unintentionally funny Im sure
Totally unintentional, but extremely funny! For things like that, I can only point the finger at myself, since I do all of the editing. Thank you for watching and for giving me a laugh!
_Hello from Lima. Barranco is nice , bohemian and some how upscale. It is very good for visiting as a tourist and living short term. On the other side, Magdalena del Mar also in front of the Ocean is more family oriented , better prices and good for living medium to long term because of affordability. Magdalena being less "party" district, has no discoteques , no bars, but abundance of very good restaurants, shopping center, best "mercado" in the area, etc. Magdalena has a lot of parks for taking our dogs to walk around, vets, cheese shops, very good bakeries, dulcerias ( dessert shop), hair salon everywhere, hardware stores, paint stores, services as shoemaker, dressmaker, etc. _
Liked your account of Magdalena del Mar where I have spent many weeks over the years (staying at the Hostal Magdalena House on Ayacucho). Also, don't forget the casinos where I dropped many a Pesos.
Spent two months living there, barranco has a really beautiful way of life. I went all over Lima, would love to hear your thoughts on other not as popular neighborhoods I went to like, San Isidro, San Miguel, the city center, callo, La Victoria
I visited several of the other locations, but I don't feel qualified to give a good assessment of them, since I didn't spend that much time there. Alternatively, I spent enough time in both Barranco and Miraflores to wholeheartedly recommend those neighborhoods to anyone!
Thanks for the video. How much was your ceviche meal? How much was the beer at the draft beer restaurant? Also what is the weather like? As i have seen many videos and its quite cloudy
Thank you! I've looked to see if I can determine the cost of the ceviche and the draft beer, but I have had no luck. I know that both were inexpensive by U.S. standards. My guess is $10 or less for the ceviche and $5 or less for the beer. I visited in the fall and being right on the coast, most days were foggy. There was no rain, during the entire month that I spent there.
@@oldaloneandfarfromhome Thank you for the reply ! Would you happen to know if it’s foggy all year round ? As we are planning to visit in October for a few months
I was only there during May, so I have no direct insight. However, looking online it appears that the foggy days are fewer in October and November is even better in terms of sunshine and very few foggy days. I hope that helps!
That ruined little church was and is famous for a ghostly legend, apparently a headless priest stays there and shows himself sometimes before the very eyes of terrified passersby
Lol… This old dude must’ve thought he was doing a think-piece for CNN or some other mainstream news network. I will give him credit though, his audio and video editing are top-notch, but I think it’s just way too formal for UA-cam. Anyhow, if it makes him happy then good for him. lol.
@@moogie01956 lol. I thought I was being nice. Well, I’m in my 40s and my cool-status is long gone too… lol… if that makes you feel better. Lol. I thought his video was good… I was just jokingly saying that most UA-camrs don’t care enough to put on pants, whereas this dude is 100% invested. I meant no offense.
Damien, you are probably confusing being elegant with being formal. This guy has an elegant way of expressing his videos, but at the same time he is quite informal. Just using blue-jeans and non-elegant shirt. BTW Are you a teenager ?
That's unfair. It is an honest travel experience. The neighborhoods is truly that pretty with amazing sunsets. Bars, restaurants, etc....all over. You may not like him or his approach but it is sincere. Not everyone liked A. Bourdain's approach even though he showed places for what they were. I give the old dude a 5 out of 5.
"This is the artistic, hipster, part of Lima". As a peruvian myself, that is the best and most accurate description I've ever heard.
Wow, I might have gotten something right!
Thanks for watching and thank you for the great comment!
que haces aqui fred :u
Amazing video, Very professional
That is so nice of you to say!
Thank you for watching.
My hometown 🥰🥰🥰. Gooosh I miss it ah. One of the best places to live worldwide and enjoy simpliest things in life 🌹
I spent four weeks there and absolutely did not want to leave.
Thank you for watching and I appreciate you leaving the comment, as well!
I'll be visiting Berranco for the first time next week. I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for this video.

I agree! I loved the place and the ceviche!

Barranco!!! The Best ...
You won't get an argument from me!
My boyfriend and I are. We put a lock there a few years ago and when we last December, more than half of the fence is gone.
Great video! Was this during world cup or copa america? I see some soccer playing on TVs
It was near the time of Copa America. Honestly though, there is soccer on just about every time I go into a bar or restaurant in Latin America!

In Lima... 2nd-only to ---- MIRAFLORES (Miraflores can't be beat in any category)
It was a hard call for me to make, choosing a favorite between Barranco and Miraflores!
Disagree, Miraflores has its own unique beauty but Barranco has that idk what that makes it feel more friendly and vibrant
Please don't tell anyone!😏😅😅 If you know you know! One of the best neighborhoods in SA.
I promise I won't tell anyone!
