  • Whether you're just stopping by on a connecting flight to visit Machu Picchu or looking to explore Peru's beautiful coastal capital of Lima, you'll likely have a big decision ahead of you. Should I stay in Miraflores or Barranco? These two beautiful neighborhoods are right next to each other but each has its own unique vibes (and most importantly price points)! We stayed for a week in both to finally settle this battle of the barrios!

I'm Peruvian. I was born in Barranco. I currently live in Europe for more than 20 years. Every time I see videos of Lima, especially Barranco, it makes me want to cry. I miss my city a lot, I miss my Barranco neighborhood. I am glad that you like my neighbourhood.

Awe! I feel the same whenever I see something related to hometown. It is sad but beautiful because it means you had great loving memories in that place :) We truly lilked Barranco a lot, it has a lot of charm and the people were very welcoming!

Hello , I was born in Lima. I invite you tu visit another district as Magdalena del Mar, in Lima. Cheaper prices and a family vibe in front of the ocean. The Mercado is so rich in culture and food. Thanks for reading my words

I have lived in Miraflores since 2009 (and I plan on staying). It is a great place to live; however expensive by Peru standards; however (again) much, much less expensive than my previous locations (Tokyo) and before that San Francisco. In my opinion - Barranco is a nice half-day visit whereas Miraflores has much more to offer, as you noted.

To me there are two different districts, Miraflores is a modern barrio and on the other side Barranco still keeps houses of almost 150 years. I enjoyed both of them. Wish there were more barrios near the ocean like both. Great video guys 👍🏻

Great observations. Glad you had a good time in my birth country. I'm looking forward to spending much more time there once in retire next year. The $28/night airbnb price gives you good indication on how much more you get for your hard earned dollar down there.

The town of Barranco (Ravine) is older, and more bohemian than Miraflores (Look-flowers). Miraflores is a more commercial, middle-class area. Miraflores is not really a wealthy residential area like La Molina, Monterrico, San Isidro, or the gated towns of La Planicie, or Las Casuarinas, which are affluent. Downtown Lima, is older than Barranco, and older neighborhoods, which are now dangerous areas are Rimac, where the San Cristobal hill is located, and Barrios Altos, which have two older historical famous Peruvian cemeteries. These areas start it in the 1500s, and had its best years during the Viceroyalty of Peru in the 1600s, and 1700s.

I recomend to You to taste ceviche at Punto Azul restaurant in Miraflores, and drink a glass of popular drink chilcano de pisco in traditional Bolívar Hotel (second floor) on Plaza San Martin (historic Center).

Are most of the foods fried ? Were the people swimming with wet suits on, or bathingsuit swimming ? Thanks for good video, costs. /art.

Hi, thanks! I don't think most of the food in Peru is fried. They have a great variety. And yes, the people we saw swimming/surfing had wetsuits.

No dude Cuzco is not the ''real'' Peru, there are many Perus, and Cuzco is just one of this realities but its population just represents 1% of Peru's population, Lima instead has almost 35% of Peru population, sadly because of centralization and 1970's -80's terrorism. In addition Lima is very mixed (food, people, music, etc) and by far more ''modern'', crazy, dangerous, open-minded etc than Cuzco. Also Lima has a very coast-sea tradition, Cuzco instead is hilly/ ''andino'' (from the andes) and indigenous. Also I would say that you just visited a few part of Lima that along with other ''prosperous'' districts represents aprox just the 40% of a 12million city that is vibrant but also problematic. Nowadays you can find a lot of people that migrated from many parts of Peru and the biggest community of Venezuelans (around 1.5mill) in the world that its been imprinted other trait to Lima. Greeting and enjoy Cuzco!!!.
