That is astounding and not a bit surprising! Thank you for sharing all of that information. I was fortunate to visit and be able to try so many different dishes. Obviously, there were so many additional tastes that I did not even get to sample. I am honored to have you as a viewer!
I loved Peruvian Food, it is delicious!!! Visited Peru last year and we tried everything from Ceviches, Ají de Gallina, Cuy, Potatoes... Lovely country!!! Don´t leave Peru without going to Cuzco, it is a gorgeous city with many attractions (Vinicunca the 7 color mountain is highly recommended, Cuzco itself is gorgeous and of Course all the Inca Sites)
If you are going to Vinicunca, then you may want to go by ATV. The parking area for the ATV's is very close to the view point and you don't have to do the long, long hike for regular tourists. An alternative is Montaña de Colores Palccoyo. It's also a "Rainbow Mountain," but it get about 10% of the visitors vs Vinicunca.
Peruvian food is delicious. There are several dishes with different flavors. Peruvian food not only has Chinese influence, it also has French, Italian, Spanish, African, and Japanese. Talking about the chicha morada, you boil the purple corn with quince, pineapple, cinnamon, clove, and after it is done boiling and then cool, you add the sugar and lime.
Congratulations for your good vibes to taste our flavors, in Lima you have a first sights perhaps the best cuisine in South America, only remember this advice Cheaper budget for the best foods, every corner you will have many places to enjoy it, Blessings and keep visiting my country
The food was an absolute delight! There was hardly anything that I tried that I did not enjoy. Even the stomach was tasty, just had a difficult time chewing it! Thank you for the exceptional comments!
Great video! Have you tried the sandwiches from La Lucha? If you're staying in Miraflores, I recommend Rincon Chami. It's an unassuming restaurant specializing in authentic Peruvian food, popular among locals and featured in travel guides as well. The friendly waiters, who have been there for over 35 years, will warmly welcome you. Additionally, you should try the Pastel de Choclo (Corn Casserole) at El Bodegón in Miraflores.
I've always been a pretty adventurous eater! I'm really not afraid to try anything. It's a fascinating part of travel. Thanks for the comment. It made me laugh!
Excellent review. What you call "far from home" is actually my home, and I am currently freezing far from there in CT! Nevertheless, in 5 days I will be back in Lima's warm climate enjoying much of the food you've presented here. Looking forward to it!
It is so nice to get such a positive comment from someone who lives in Lima. That lets me know that my video is nearing the mark. Good luck in leaving the chill of Connecticut and getting back to summer in Lima!
I think the term "Peruvian Cousine" is an underestimation of the diversity you can find in Peru. Yes, Criole cousine is a big mix of influences, but then you have other groups of dishes from more specific mixes like Chifa or Nikkei, and even within Criole cousine there are differences in techniques and ingredientes between coast, andean and amazonic dishes, each one heavily influenced by their distinct culture and past.

Great video, brought back fond memories of all the wonderful food I had in Lima last year…I splurged and went to Virgilio Martinez Véliz’s Central in Barranco (which was surreal). I’m also a fan of food tours…did an evening one in Mira Flores and Barranco…which was great. I think I’ve only had one food tour that was just so-so. Generally, they are super helpful in introducing me to a place’s food and to restaurants that I probably wouldn’t have found on my own (and I’m a solo traveler in my 50s). Typically, I’ve found that the guide will make other suggestions beyond the tour, and I usually give a couple a try.
Hello from Lima. When we ask for a ceviche , we have the option to say "bajo en ají" what means "just a little bit of chili" . I am peruvian and do not like aji in excess too, because it overwhelms others flavours, but some people do love it because it produces an special feeling in the body.
The food tour was very reasonably priced and I was amazed at the number of different items we got to try! I've tried to find a food tour here in Asunción, but have had no luck.
Loved your video, thank you for sharing your experience tasting the unique flavors of my hometown. As everyone can see, there is a lot of variety, it’s not expensive, for the most part and if you stay in the touristic areas, you will feel safe.
Hellooo. I just found your video when looking for information about Lima. Im a professional cook and Im planing to go at the end of the month to explore food and flavours there! I haven’t finished to watch your video but I’m already grateful because I also love practicing my English! I hope you show me any restaurant I want to visit! Greetings from a Colombian living in Chile.
You will find so many great restaurants and interesting tastes in Lima! There was so much more that I would have liked to try, during my stay there. Thank you for watching and also, for leaving such a wonderful comment!
Really interesting. I visited Cusco before and remember some delicious dishes I never had anywhere else. I also remember a buffet at the Iquitos Hilton on the Amazon, very exotic but flavorful seafood.
As a peruvian is great to see people from around the world enjoying our food and the culture behind it. I just have to correct you on one plate, in the first ceviche that you tried that came with some rice and seafood was not "Arroz Chaufa con Mariscos", it was actually "Arroz con Mariscos" is a pretty similar name so I can understand the confusion but a totally different dish. Hope you keep enjoying your trip here in Perú. Great video!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I simply took the name of the dish from the menu at the restaurant. I have to rely on others to provide the correct information to me and sometimes that doesn't happen. Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment!
Very good review of Lima’s delicious foods. Thank you For visiting my country. I sure miss the food. Only thing I would never eat is cuy. Love your sense of adventure and the willingness to try new foods. Peru 🇵🇪 I miss you.
The visual appeal of the food is certainly strong. I probably would have hesitated at trying Cuy, if I had a Guinea Pig as a pet, when I was young. Thank you for watching and for taking the time to make a comment.
I love your videos a lot. You have a very chill (and journalist-like) vibe. I have just subscribed to your channel. Anyway, my friends from Chile once told me that Peru is the place to go in South America for food. I believe they were trying to tell me that Peru is popular for its food. 😁
Thank you for the compliments! I also appreciate you watching and subscribing to my channel! Your friends are correct. The food in Peru is an absolute highlight!
Thanks for sharing. I was going to ask what were good places to each. The anticuchos looked good (grilled beef heart). Did you get a chance to try buttifaras? Peru's sandwich? My mother made many of the foods you ate so I am looking forward to seeing how her food was different from Peru because she had to substitute some ingredients. Thanks again for these videos.
Hi I hope you feel more at home by now….my preferred food joint in Embarcadero 41 in Surco, wash down a ceviche with a pisco sour is my Sunday ritual. Surco is ok, it’s the district with 1,000 parks, very walkable ….just follow the parks in your map towards Loma Amarilla ( yellow hill ) park where the municipality is located, this way you will know the east part of the city closer to the dusty hills.
Just to add to the Chinese influence, growing up in Peru, as a child I had Peruvian fried as my most favorite Peruvian dish. I was heartbroken when I heard that fried rice is not Peruvian, but the Peruvian style of Fried Rice will forever be better in Peru and I have tried fried rice all over the world as a grownup. Be safe in Peru! Onwards!
Well done, sir. I used to live in Miraflores (2006-7). You hit all of the go to dishes. One that I recommend that was not mentioned is Jalea Mixta. Fried - seafood with yucca! Hmm mmm. My favorites that you mentioned are aji de gallina, papa rellena, and of course lomo saltado. Thanks for sharing!
That Jalea Mixta sounds amazing! I wish I had been able to try it. Just your mention of Aji de Gallina has my mouth watering! Thank you for the great comment!
Love Peruvian! Great food! Excellent you got around Lima’s neighborhoods… Peru’s also famous for Pollo a la Brasa, rotisserie chicken; Rocky’s, Micky’s, Norki’s and Pardos!! Keep working on your Spanish…
I was aware of the rotisserie chicken, but never took the opportunity to get some. I'll keep working on my Spanish, but I feel woefully inadequate in that arena. Thank you for watching!
Great video!!! I haven’t been to Peru in years… now, I wanna go back soon. Just a couple of observations: your first dish wasn’t a chaufa, it was “arroz con mariscos” and it comes from the Spanish heritage. Very close to a Spanish paella. Second: the picarones aren’t served with honey but with a sugar cane syrup, called “chancaca”.
I really enjoyed the food-centric video. Seeing all the unique dishes and hearing your thoughts on them was something very enjoyable for those of us that don't get the first hand experience. It looked tough to film, but you made it look easy. Nice work! More please.
Cool! So glad that you liked it. The food tour was tough to shoot, because we were always on the move. Meals at the restaurants were difficult, because there are a limited number of angles for food shots and I am always trying not to bother other diners. I am already working on my next food video. It will be about the tastes of Paraguay!
The food tour that I booked was through Get Your Guide. The activity provider is listed as The Traveler Agency. When I looked it up just now, however, GYG said that the activity was no longer provided. There will be other food tours on the platform. I am so glad that you liked Canta Rana. I thought it was fantastic!
The secret of Ceviche is the fresh fish and the lemon from Northern Peru, another lemon would be another flavor, that is why Peruvian Ceviche is special from other ceviches in the world.
Real fun and informative video on local food sir, congrats. Let me suggest you a couple of winners (on the food department): "ocopa arequipeña" and "arroz con pato chiclayana". Those two are amongst my top 5 best peruvian dishes. Cheers.
I appreciate the kind comments! Thanks for the suggestions for other dishes, as well! Invariably, when covering the foods of an area, I am going to miss some worthy plates!

Muy excellente, que rico! And even though you didn't mention it directly, I was happy to see Inca Kola still found a way into the video. Did you ever get to dry Camu Camu juice, as well?
I actually didn't try either Inca Kola or Camu Camu juice. I should have at least tried one of them. Thank you for inspiring me to be more open to different drink options in the future!
@@oldaloneandfarfromhome Oh I think you were very adventurous with what you tried in your video! But these two were favourites of mine...thankfully Inca Kola can still be found in Latin American shops across North America (but it isn't cheap since it's imported from Peru, despite now being a Coca Cola product!)
I was there a month, but aside from the food tour, it took me about two weeks to hit all of the others spots. Normally, I don't eat lunch, but this forced me to do so, as the light was no good by the time I was ready for dinner!
I ate at a Peruvian restaurant in New York and it was fantastic. Other than that, I haven't tried additional Peruvian eateries. Going forward, I will try one, whenever I encounter it!
The first plate with rice is called ARROZ CON MARISCOS and is not considered Peruvian Chinese at all and is not called ARROZ CHAUFA, both are very different
I managed to make it through just fine! I am lucky that I've always been able to eat whatever has been put on the plate in front of me, without negative consequences!
I appreciate your kind words. I am sorry, but I have always acknowledged that pronunciation is not a strength for me. Hopefully, people can enjoy my videos, in spite of that.
From Oklahoma, I wanted to extend my gratitude for visiting my home country 🙏
You are so welcome and it was truly my pleasure to spend time in Peru!

The Peruvian food is delicious. The Peruvian tradition, history and culture are beautiful. I am proud from my country Peru 🇵🇪.

I still dream about that Peruvian chicken....
So do I, Geoff! As best I remember, that sauce on the first dish tasted just about like what we had in NYC!
I hope things are good with you!

Everything looks delicious
i’m gonna dream about the food tour guide girl 💕
Stone soup is good. So is seagull gizzard, breaded.

Second: the picarones aren’t served with honey but with a sugar cane syrup, called “chancaca”.
Thanks for your comment! Thanks too for the clarification on those two items. I readily admit that I don't always get everything perfectly right!
I liked your video! 😊
Thank you very much!
🔥🔥🔥
In Peru currently and I want to say CANTA RANA was an amazing recommendation! For the food tour what company did you use ? Going to centro today
Next time you go to a Peruvian restaurant try "pescado a lo macho". Fry fish topped with seafood sauce and rice. You will love it.
That sounds great! Thank you for the recommendation.
nice video ! i'm definitely going to try those places !
There are so many good places to eat and really special tastes to try!
The secret of Ceviche is the fresh fish and the lemon from Northern Peru, another lemon would be another flavor, that is why Peruvian Ceviche is special from other ceviches in the world.
I didn't know the specifics. I just knew that I was crazy about it!
You ate good 👌
I certainly did! And it's all because of doing the video, as ordinarily I don't eat lunch!
Amazing food I can’t stop thinking about lomo saltado ! So good I would trade my wife for one lomo saltado - JK
I hope she doesn't read your comments!
But yeah, lomo saltado can be that good!
You can have mine free, bro…and my mates, and his neighbour, and my gym buddies…wife give aways!!

What’s the name of the organises street food your you did, please? I’m going Peru in a few weeks and would love to do it also!
You would have a fantastic time and the experience is reasonably priced.
The tour operator is Lima Experience and I believe I accessed it through Get Your Guide.

Don´t forget to try the Cuy: Guinea Pig
I tried it! The taste was good, but not enough meat for me!
good
I appreciate you watching!
The OG Ají de Gallina was exclusively made with Hen, now more modern interactions are made from chicken.
Great tips!
Thank you! I am glad that you watched!
2:29 thats no chaufa. It was arroz con mariscos/ rice with seafood. Different,
How many days were U there? It would take me a month to eat all that food😂. Ann, Florida fan
I was there a month, but aside from the food tour, it took me about two weeks to hit all of the others spots. Normally, I don't eat lunch, but this forced me to do so, as the light was no good by the time I was ready for dinner!
La Comida Peruana es tan rica y variada en sus tres Regiones que te llevaría toda una vida conocerla y comerla toda
Is choclo please 🙏🏿
I was a fan of the choclo! Cancha for me was hit or miss.
How the Peruvian food in USA compares to the same dishes in Lima
I ate at a Peruvian restaurant in New York and it was fantastic. Other than that, I haven't tried additional Peruvian eateries. Going forward, I will try one, whenever I encounter it!
Chica morada.. purple girl… Jajaj
Chica Morada is so good! I wish I had some right now.
@@oldaloneandfarfromhome haha, it’s actually Chicha.
I know, but I messed up that one time in the video and said Chica, instead!
And they didn't have...Carapulcra, Locro, Mondonguito a la Italiana, Escabeche, Parihulea.... And my favorite...Cau Cau!!!!!
There were many dishes that I wish I had time to try.
The first plate with rice is called ARROZ CON MARISCOS and is not considered Peruvian Chinese at all and is not called ARROZ CHAUFA, both are very different
Did you get sick to your stomach after eating all that food?
I managed to make it through just fine! I am lucky that I've always been able to eat whatever has been put on the plate in front of me, without negative consequences!
Thank you for your love and respect for the food and culture but the pronunciations are killing me still a great video
I appreciate your kind words. I am sorry, but I have always acknowledged that pronunciation is not a strength for me. Hopefully, people can enjoy my videos, in spite of that.
@oldaloneandfarfromhome it's all love brother I appreciate the work
Old dude gained 20 lbs in 1 day
Omg man! U went to many diferents restaurant but in any specialist in this dish, how in the hell went to tasted lomo in a cafe?? What the hell men? 😅
Did you ever get parasites from ceviche anywhere?
No, I never did.
Chica morarada not chica 🤦🏾♀️
I did make that mistake once when I was on camera. I think I got it correct all the other times!
Chicha is the correct word
Yeeaahh cool chica morrada
This list isn’t legit. The Don’s pollo la brasa, side of yucca and papa fritas isn’t even mentioned?! Shame on you. If you know you know.
Love Peruvian food, but won't eat Cuy.
I had to try it!
