Girl. I had donuts instead of wedding cake and a literal picnic as a wedding. People sat on the floor on blankets and pillows, ate sandwiches and other finger food and also had a dessert table. You do you! Its your wedding!

Have the wedding you want. Period. That's all. You want big - go big. You want small - go small. My wedding cost less than 400 bucks ( maybe less than 300) and included a small handful of guests. There were a few naysayers about its smallness and simplicity and we didn't care one bit. The day was ours not theirs. And whatever you do don't tell any vendor you are buying for a wedding - prices go way up for a wedding. Have the day you want the way you want. Just my two cents. (Relationship = 18 years / Married = 6 years ... So far so good 😉)

Congrats girl! For my wedding, we did cupcakes with 5 different flavors! My mom decorated all of them! Everyone had a flavor they liked and we had a great time! May your marriage be as fun as your videos!

My cake was coffee flavored and I loved it! I got a small one to save money, I didn’t plan of serving everyone with it, I just wanted pictures of the cutting and to keep the top for our first anniversary. I loved that I got to enjoy a flavor I love instead of something plain to please everyone

I got married last year and I was nearly 38, so had a lot of time to watch everyone else in my life getting married. I knew exactly what I didn't want. You HAVE to stick to who you are as a couple. You will make personal compromises because you are two people with different ideas, but ultimately you have to go with your ideas as a couple. Don't let anyone else interfere! I’ve been a wedding DJ for the last 4 years and I’ve seen some shit so here are some tips I hope can help for the big day: Pick an MC who won’t get too drunk before their duties are done. Trust me on this one, I’ve had to wrestle a mic from one of them and it’s embarrassing for everyone involved. Don’t make cocktails longer than an hour, especially if there are no snacks during them. People will drink too hard and things will get sloppy. Take time to eat!!! Everyone will want to talk to you and you’ll be so busy you may miss a lot of the food, so make it a priority! Let the guests make song requests!! It’s so much more fun for everyone! And lastly, I’ve seen so many miserable brides because of the stress and drama and it’s such a bummer, so enjoy the day as much as you can! And remember, something minor will go wrong during the day, so just laugh it off and roll with it!
I have helped friends plan their weddings. You can do traditional stuff but have one aspect that unique to you as a couple. For example, my friend getting married in October is going to incorporate D&D dice into their wedding because that is something they enjoy together. You could just do the top tier whatever you and your fiancé want and then have the other tiers be vanilla or chocolate. Even if you have just a simple non tiered cake out on display, make that your flavor and have a sheet cake in the back be your neutral flavor. OR just do a cake for you and your fiancé and the guests can have donuts, or cookies, or pie, or candy, etc.

My friend had a cake that had several flavors, each layer was different. But the one I remember because it was so good was margarita flavor! It was lime and tequila with a little salt around the edge, it was so good! And very unique. But in the end the day is for you guys, you do you.

I love the idea of letting guests know what to wear! I went to a wedding once for a friend after I just had a baby, and I really didn't know what to buy to wear. I ended up wearing something too casual and when I got there I realized everyone else was super fancy so I felt really out of place. I ended up lying and saying that my baby was sick and I couldn't stay for the reception, which i've felt guilty about for years (the $$ they spent on my seat, food, etc). Anyway, love the idea of being clear so everyone is on the same page. 😊
would recommend olga dies dreaming which while not solely featuring weddings, Olga is known as an amazing wedding planner for some powerful people in nyc and it's an interesting look at the event planning side of it but the story overall is about her family and gentrification and it's just soo good!

Wedding tip: I've been involved with a lot of weddings and when doing things like the cake or flowers, unless you really need to, don't use the word wedding when ordering. As soon as you say the word wedding, prices go up. So unless you can help it, don't mention what party you're planning for ;)
