- Today we're planting a formal yew hedge in the driveway garden and adding streams of catmint for repetition. I'm using the Stonehenge Skinny Yew for this project - www.provenwinn...
It looks gorgeous already in baby form! I love how you make your garden so personal by tying in memories of your grandmother. Thanks for sharing with us.
Your garden just gets better and better! Just beautiful, Danielle.
Hi Danielle, the yew hedge is the perfect backdrop for that garden. Especially since it holds such a dear memory for you. Your gardens are gorgeous. Your doing a great job!! 😍
Beautiful addition! And it will always evoke memories of your grandmother, who is your garden-angel 🪽💕
WOW you are approaching 100K subs! Once you get to 100K the channel will explode and maybe you can make YT your full-time job! Love your channel and how you still pay homage to your Grandmother. She must have been a lovely lady. You are a classy lady yourself.
It will be interesting to see if your yew hedge attracts different birds (some prefer dense shrubbery to nest in.) When we planted evergreens, cardinals became a common sight. BTW, you often talk about your grandma & her garden. Do you have any photos to share? It would be lovely to have some visuals connecting to your garden, to see how you're carried forward with her in mind (perhaps even a book across generations). It's said the garden dies with the gardener. Not so in your case. It would be lovely to stroll through your gardens with your grandmother's in mind. But then, your viewers do that already, don't they? 😊
Gorgeous, Danielle! That hedge will be perfect! I love seeing your garden get a “glow-up”. ☺I learn something from each of your videos!
I REALLY enjoyed how u filmed u planting from the very beginning to the end. For newbies like myself it was SUPER helpful, thank uuuu!! Looks beautiful 😍
AGREE! Super helpful. Been looking around for tips on yew hedging.
By the end of the video, the famous quote from the old A-Team TV show "I love it when a plans comes together!" comes to mind. You surely outdid yourself. The garden looks incredible.
Fabulous, Danielle...love the Yews and more cat mint 💗💗💗
Some place i read a gardner describe their garden as having formal edges with informal interior.
That is so smart to anticipate what the garden will need in the future. Love the yew hedge! Can't wait to see it grow up to a beautiful accent in your garden!
Love this and cat mint drifts…. Will be spectacular!!
Hi. I am from the UK and live in the south of England. I have often thought that your style of gardening is very 'English.' Which is one of the reasons why I love watching your videos. 😊
I
Danielle, I love how you are always looking forward, planning and then implementing the plan to improve and expand your gardens. I stay so stuck much of the time and it’s very frustrating. With your visionary videos, I can start to imagine how I can use some of your ideas in my own garden. I recently had to take out a 25 year old holly hedge and lost so much privacy. Now I know what I can plant to replace them - yew, of course! 💚
First time commenting on your channel. I love your style of gardening. That hedging will be beautiful once it fills in. I love yews as you can get so many varieties for different applications, and the nepeta will be a nice band of blue! In my mind, there is nothing like an English Cottage garden and yours will be spectacular. Greetings from Ottawa, Canada, zone 5.
Love it!!! It’s beautiful!!!
Would love to see some video further away to see the scale of this bed again….I love the shape and all the plants!
Looks so good! Small changes make such a big difference!! Thank you for the motivation 😊
I like your design thoughts of how the yew hedges would look in the future. Also, the use of one plant, cat mint , brings a coherent flow to the large beds.
The cardboard and mulch is a great idea. Borrowing it for future project.
This is beautiful, and what a great design. Thank you for sharing with us.
Can't say any more than what's already been said (below). Just love, love, LOVE your designs androoms and CAN NOT WAIT to see it all develop!!!
Yew is a wonderful plant! We can't use it since the deer ravage it, but I'm looking forward to seeing it mature in your space. So, so pretty!
Looks great! Love seeing Rocky doing so well!
Danielle, I can just imagine your new yew hedge at maturity. I think it will really bring that English cottage garden look. Your gardens are just beautiful!
I would love a real life garden tour at some point. Your garden is a work of art!
It's beautiful! You have great vision for what you want for your gardens. I love prennials. Annuals are beautiful; but I love prennials in all gardens... including mine.😊
It's so much fun to watch your garden grow and develop! You're doing such a wonderful job! Obviously, the cat's approve of the catmint choice! Keep up the good work!!
My goodness your garden looks like it feels so good to be in, good job on all your hard work. I know what it takes to do my garden, it is not easy sometimes. You really have to care about all of it ❣️❣️❣️❣️
Looks wonderful. I find it helpful hearing the reasoning for your designs. I was fortunate to be in England in April and soaked up inspiration from many gardens, including my SIL’s who is a great gardener.
I love the concept of repetition of plants from one garden bed to another - I am going to implement this in my own home landscape as well. Thanks Danielle!
So very beautiful
Your new hedge and catmint rivers are lovely- I’ve also been working on repetition within my borders. Your garden and videos are a source of joy and inspiration- thank you Danielle
Wow, I love the yew hedge and river of catmint! I wish you could come to my garden and work on my landscaping!
Loved this video. I really like how you're doing the planting and then narrating an explanation. Your garden look beautiful 😍 thank you for sharing.
It’s so inspiring to watch you. Garden hero 👏
Just perfect....nothing better that yews, great choice.
Your garden is gorgeous thanks for sharing.
It's so funny, I had the same thinking this year... I divided and planted catmint in every bed. You just can't beat catmint, such a tough, beautiful and reliable plant
I think the yew hedge will look lovely!
So inspiring love watching your videos. love your gardens. I have a long way to go.
I tell my kids I’m going for semi formal with a touch of chaos!🌸
1:26 The kitty!! 😍 lol So cute! ❤
I love when you talk about your grandma. I’m a grandma now & it warms my heart ❤
Hard work and dedication always pay off 💪... your garden reflects your passion. Well done.
I also love catmint. Hopefully the variety you planted will not reseed too abundantly! ❤
The yew hedge is a very special addition! Can’t you just imagine what fond memories it will create for your daughter and one day grandchildren of your own.
Wonderful garden ideas. I think this will be stunning!
It looks beautiful, with the additions it will be stunning 🌼🐝
I love yew. I have a planting of it as well and it’s thriving.
You are always looking at the big picture. What you have created over the years is absolutely stunning. Know that every video you post gives a new idea or inspiration to the gardening community; we appreciate you!!
Absolutely lovely as always🌷
Everything always looks so lovely!
Beautiful ! I too love the yew shrub.
You give me so many ideas for my garden! Thank you!🌸
Wow! Looks so great! I just planted 5 more catmint plants last night with the same intent on creating cohesion! I also garden in the most comfortable/casual gear I can find (sorry to my neighbors, lol). It may or may not match or be flattering. 🙈 I, too, work in my grandma's garden & will need to take her old yew out because it's gotten too large for the space. I love it & maybe I will try to add the more narrow PW variety somewhere in its honor. I will look forward to updates!
Love what you are doing with your garden.
It's coincidental, but ive just planted 6 small cat mint rooted cuttings along the border of my fruit/dahlia garden to keep some repetition too.
You can't go wrong with it and the colour is so vibrant and uplifting.😊
The yews will be a great focal backdrop to your driveway garden.
I wonder what the growth (per season) is on this particular yew?
Cat birds are my favorite
Very pretty 💐
Thank you Danielle. It’s going to be soooo pretty. 🌷💚🙃
Ah..so beautiful garden..
Absolutely beautiful !!💕💕
Nice it looks beautiful👍😊💜
Beautiful Danielle!
Thanks for showing us your latest project. You work very hard in always doing something to upgrade and improve! Looking forward to seeing the yews progress.
I just learned about that variety of yew.
I wonder if it takes to topiary shaping.
I have in mind an arborvitae and shaping it with a ball on the bottom (or cube) and the top shaped as a 4-sided spear. My very experienced gardener GF asked why I didn't choose a yew for my topiary. So, that got me thinking. I'm planting this for my BIL who loved Sci-Fi and chess and Stonehenge. And adjacent to it I'll plant a hedge of one of the smooth hydrangeas (I can't
decide which I like best, garnet or spirit II). I have several gardens for family members. I'm renovating my grandmother's garden.
Nepeta grows so well in my garden. So many varieties to choose from. 😱
Beautiful!!! I love it 💚
I love ur videos. I also live in PA more to the north east and wish the land here was like yours. We have a rocky soil and cant plant anything without having to use heavy duty equipment 😢 But learning so much from ur videos ❤
Really beautiful!
Could you please show the tag for the yew, there are so many varieties. I live in North Carolina zone 7B and I would love to know if it was one that would work here. I love the way that’s going to look.
I would love to know that as well Danielle. I’m getting ready to landscape a brand new yard and would love to use yew. I also had some delphinium plants come back again this year from only 3 last year so I think you should try them again. Lovely!

💜 from another informal gal 😊
Lovely!
I love garden you working beautiful 🌻🌾🪻🌷☀️
I also use Nepeta to connect all my flower beds. You’ll see me mention it often in my videos. The Yew hedge should be lovely.
Beautiful!
Gorgeous!
So beautiful! ❤
Looks awesome!
Beautiful! Also, I love catmint, which variety is this?
Do you ever worry about planting too much of the same plant in case they start succumbing to a disease or insect pressure? Sometimes a mixed screen of plants has more long term durability.
I like the idea of the yew hedge, I also like those lovely British cottage garden, your garden has really evolved nicely in the last couple years, I’m enjoying watching the changes ….do you have to cut yew into shape? I have not planted it.
I too have a love of hydrangeas, could you please do a video on caring and pruning all the different types? Firelight, invincible?
Love your videos, Danielle! You give us so much courage and motivation to create a beautiful garden in our own yard! Wanted to ask what type of mulch should I buy for my flower beds?
I love yew hedges. Who are Buddy and Harry? Are they yours, or from the neighborhood?
Your gardens are so beautiful. I love Catmint, too. I was advised to chop it by the 4th of July to keep it blooming. I hate doing that. Do you cut yours back mid-season?
I usually do that with mine and it does bloom some but never as full as the first flush.
You have such a great eye for design. It looks so pretty. My PW dwarf butterfly bush did not come back this spring. Did yours over winter ok?
Is there an update video on this? I’m dying to plant a yew hedge but you really don’t hear too much about them in the United States! Looking to see how they have performed for you!
Can you share where you got your watering container? Thanks. Enjoying everything you do.
Hi Danielle. I love your bird bath. Can you share where you got it. Did you have a video about it that I missed?
A wonderful addition! What are the white flowers blooming behind you in a lot of the shots?
I have a yew that is now a tree. A tree.
Just beautiful! What is the white flower in your driveway garden?
Beautiful! What an inspiration! What variety of catmint are you using ?I love catmint but my Walkers Low always seems to split and hollow out in the middle. Looking for a variety that doesn’t do that. Thank you!
❤
Looks beautiful! What variety of catmint did you plant? Maybe you mentioned it but i missed it.
Do you have a favorite variety of catmint?
Danielle, do you use cardboard under all the driveway garden? Looks amazing!
You're so sweet ❤
Can you talk about how to keep a yew at the desired height?
I noticed you actually cut the semi-circle, or horseshoe edge twice. Is there a reason in doing that, or did you change your mind and extend the first cut? Thank you
