Hey all! I realize that some of my choices aren't exactly the most underused (specifically Scout and Demo's), but I wanted to be honest and discuss weapons I actually like rather than bullshitting and pretending to enjoy weapons I didn't for content. Regardless, I hope y'all enjoy!

I'm glad someone has finally acknowledged the true potential of Huo-Long Heater. I don't know why so many players saw the ring of fire and thought, "Yup, that's exclusively against spies".
Bruh, the ring of fire does so much when you jump into a crowd and it's such an amazing tool against bold scouts jumping in your face.

that is when the fire particles actually hit. ive noticed alot of the enemies i should be lighting on fire with the hue long ring seems to never work. it is my favorite heavy weapon and i am a heavy main, but with those things said... man do i wish the ring of fire would actually work a bit better

As a Heavy main myself, I love the Huo Long Heater. It deals with those annoying demoknights very well.
I don't think heavy struggles with demoknight regardless
natascha would perform better than huo long heater in a long run since charging speed stops when it falls below 300hu, i've faced huo long heater heavies before and they're significantly less of an issue compared to natascha heavies
I absolutely LOVE the reserve shooter. My biggest wish is that the Liberty Launcher did extra knockback to counteract its damage reduction so that the two weapons who are *intended* to combo together could, actually do so, since the LL can barely knock enemies into the air due to its lowered damage
Also, personally think the Overdose is *very* fun for medic. As much as it's not, powerful, and crossbow clears all, I've found the speed boost you get from it really nice to use, and something that no one seems to expect if you ever do end up using it for combat, considering how much faster you really are with uber built up, especially if you pair it with the quick-fix (also underrated in my opinion) to get high uber pretty fast so you always have that speed on hand when you need it
I love the Huo-Long because every dead player drops 100 ammo, I rarely encounter the one downside it supposedly has.

Being a Heavy who mainly uses the Panic Atrack and FoS combo, the increased ammo usage of the Hou-Long Heater it's really not that big of a deal of me, and is quite useful as a more of "whoa, that's a lot of enemies on the way, they've gotta go NOW" weapon.
Not many people know this but the solemn vow actually has a 200% crit chance

Another kind of quirky synergy I always found neat even when the huolong heater was brand new is it's ability to be a heavybro for your engineers. Dispensers effectively negate the downside of the huolong and the ring of fire gives spies another obstacle that complicates their ability to touch the engineers nest especially if you are standing on top of the dispenser so they cant just jump over it. Young Zobi loved turtling with his engineers as pyro and heavy so this was like the best of both worlds for that. Is it viable? Pfft not really but it's a fun little synergy.
Half-Zat has its place as the demoknight sword for short-term value. Eyelander gives you a stacking permanent benefit, while the Zat has no downside on full demoknight, and a temporary benefit that you have to be active to maintain.
Air strike + reserve shooter sounds fun, though they kinda fit two roles. The air strike wants to build up some kills but can struggle in that department due to its damage nerf. However, the reserve shooter can mitigate those initial issues by letting you get crits on enemies you pop into the air so that it’s better in situations it’s normally not good at

I also love the funny piss rifle, and I cant aim for the head for shit, but its funny when I get the enemy yellow
The Short Circuit doubles also as a corridor spy checker, and since it's so big acts as a disorienting flashbang sometimes. It'll really mess up peoples tracking of you if your spamming mouse 2, jumping, and then can beat them with the shotgun after.
My "Non-Meta" Weapons I Love List:
Scout: Shortstop - Shortstop + Pretty Boy's Pocket Pistol + Sun on a Stick = F*ck You Pyro! Loadout
Soldier: Airstrike - I just like flying everywhere and making bombing runs on the enemy like I'm part of the US Air Force! I also want to get a strange one and rename it "Enola Gay", cause I be dropping bombs iyk what I mean 😈
Pyro: The Thermal Thruster - I like *schmooovement*
Demoman: The Half Zatoichi - For similar reasons as in the vid.
Heavy: The Brass Beast - I'm bouta go beast mode 😈 I also just like being a literal tank.
Engineer: I don't play this class enough/I only run stock whenever I play him 😢
Medic: The Overdose - I like *schmooovement*
Sniper: The Huntsman - We all saw Soundsmith's video on it! But I still like using it even though I'm bad with it. I get excited every time I hit a nice headshot!
Spy: The Your Eternal Reward - For similar reasons as in the vid.

Sydney Sleeper isn't a killing weapon, it's a psychological weapon... being on low HP and taking 35% more damage forces the enemy team to back up
Killing might have some points, but if a Teleport is up then the downtime is negligible, forcing them to retreat though can sometimes be for the best, especially when they have a high chance of dying even after they back off
My list of underrated weapons for each class:
Scout: Shortstop
Soldier: Beggars/Panic Attack
Pyro: Thermal Thruster/Back Scratcher
Demoman: Claymore (im not going to even try to spell it)
Heavy: Brass Beast
Engineer: Eureka Effect
Medic: Solemn Vow (why do people disregard this weapon?)
Sniper: Shahansha
Spy: YER
I’m glad you like the Hou-Long Heater, I use that to make spies fear me since they would get shown and I enjoy it more when I’m pushing the payload while firing it, endless ammo and hearing Heavy making noises while shooting cracks me up that I wouldn’t want to let go M1
The biggest issue of the heater is that it’s way too dependent on layout of the map you’re playing on and your team composition. It really really struggles on open maps and most of the time it’s just a worse stock. Also the fact that it active discourages pre-revs means that you can easily get caught with your pants down. Sure it can be on par with the stock or even on par with the tomi when you have a good pyro on your team while playing on a map with lots of narrow corridors or verticalities, but the fact you need to depend on those out of your control factors to begin with makes it pretty underwhelming
As a heavy “main”, the Huo Long is a fun item but my preferred weird minigun is the Brass Beast. People look at it like a memey weapon but it is still a massive menace in DPS and people don’t play against it enough to make the mistake of picking a fight with it or not realizing the resistance is a thing. It’s so satisfying for some cocky explosive class thinking I am an easy pick only to just face tank their damage and send them into the 20 second void.
Also it’s not “off meta” nearly as much anymore but it’s nice to see the Cleaver get serious use these days. Same with the Wrap Assassin. It’s sad but the Sandman walked so the Cleaver and Wrap Assassin could run.
As an Engineer Main, I want to throw in some weapons I love personally that I feel fit this category. The Eureka Effect! It's usually only used as the, "Rollout starter" and then put away for a different wrench after the teleporters have been built. But, it's still very powerful as a full time wrench, and not just for Ninjaneer, but Engineer in general. Besides, most of the time, build speed doesn't matter, plus, it's basically an overpowered version of the Escape plan. Plus it just looks really cool. Then, there's the Holiday Punch. Yes, I know it's used by basically every hoovy player in existence, but I'm talking about from an actual Heavy gameplay perspective. I love that it rewards you for risking your life doing something that Heavy usually can't do, which is attack someone undetected from behind. But it does it in such a fun way, that no other weapon offers. It's easily my favorite non-engie melee in the Game! Yet, it's usually only seen as the Hoovy weapon...I also love the Manmelter, which while it's the worst flare gun, that isn't saying much, as flares are so good for combos with Pyro! And I love that it rewards u for saving an burning teammate by giving you Pyro's version of an Revenge Crit to go chase down the player who caused the fire (Don't forget, Soldier and Heavy can ignite players with Cow and Huo long). All in all tho, you nailed this category of weapons Mr. Opal! Stay awesome you legend! 🥪
I would make a genuine case for the Family Business being an equally useful secondary to the Sandvich. In fact it's downright essential for anyone running the Heater or the Beast, but it's an excellent tool for any Heavy's arsenal. Good as the minigun is, unless you're about to go running around everywhere revved up, a positioning/defensive tool for a secondary is an extremely valuable weapon
the only reason I prefer the eyelander is the feedback I get from the weapon from the snowballing effect, Its something I personally love from it. But the instant health back from the HZ puts it at a strong second pick
Another under-represented weapon that I think is better than people give it credit for is the Amputator. Its AoE heal is crazy good, especially if you're the only Medic on the team surrounded by teammates all waiting for a top-up. Its extra health per second is fine, but the ramp-up takes too much time to be of any real use. Could be the difference between life and death, but probably not.
The Huo Long's my personal favorite minigun. Hopping down from above or around corners is fun. It's also great for Scouts that get up in your face as they get shredded by the combined damage of the ring (as mentioned in video) and the second strongest minigun in the game dps-wise if they're still actively on fire.
Also 100% agree on the Blutsauger + Solemn Vow, I almost always use them together in any medic loadout

The Reserve Shooter is my #1 favorite weapon of all time. Back when i played regularly, i was trying to hunt down a beautifully skinned strange unique reserve shooter to call my own. I just wish it had it's accuracy tuned up just a bit more to make for perfect skeet-shooting of enemy team bodies :P
And yeah, it has an amazing sound when firing
For medic, I would say the Amputator is a pretty good non-meta weapon. Being able to be a mobile dispenser is pretty convenient. Especially around choke points.
Also i can't stress enough how big this upside is
You can heal yourself faster by holding it
the Force-a-nature.... my main scout weapon, love it!
Zatoichi..... not bad, I like the saber more though cuz "screw you ammo gives me health!"
Heater.... oh god this is my fave capture point and payload weapon, just under the Natasha!
Short Circuit.... fun for the roaming engi w/ mini sentry
Sleeper.... yah this is a support weapon, sniper is listed as a support....

I'm a fan of The Manmelter when used with certain primaries. When using The Dragon's Fury, it's a bit inconvenient to put out teammates since the airblast causes such a long CD, so there's some nice synergy if you want to actually help your team.
for the medic part the solem vow lets you do that regardless of which primary you have but it would be even more effective with the crossbow because you have more range
and I do believe the solem vow is meta
I swear by the Reserve Shooter on soldier these days. Still very reliable with some added benefits for careful rocket placement.

I still think the reserve shooter shouldn't have gotten nerfed. Because it was airblast itself that was the problem because it sent people in a straight line, but it doesn't do that anymore so it really would not be that bad. I feel like Valve tends to overcorrect a LOT. The most famous example being the enforcer and I think the reserve shooter is just another victim of that overcorrecting.
I use the third degree and got so many "I didn't expect you to use that" comments from people I chain killed that I named it the Spanish inquisition.
A lot of the off-meta picks are nice for when you're the second of a class. A wrangler engi alongside a Short Circuit becomes capable of tanking way more than should be legal, a Quick Fix alongside a Kritz or Uber med helps keep them and everyone else alive, a Scottish Resistance can set up traps and let a Sticky demo clean up what's left...
I am really glad to hear the YER for this, the silent killer is not worth all the hoops you have to jump through to make this weapon work well, but it's an upside that would take a main challenge off spy if it was on any other knife.
I actually have really enjoyed using the YER recently, alongside the C&D.
While some people think it's dependent on good disguises, I think it's actually more dependent on good invisibility.
It pairs well with the C&D because you can change disguises while staying invisible and don't have to be seen by enemies until its too late, which helps reduce paranoia so they aren't looking for you when you decide to go for a play.
It works really well when you're the only spy, and basically forces you to use the letranger, but if you have 2 random kunai spies making a bunch of noise, the enemy will likely be too prepared for you.
The YER thrives on chainstabbing more than like random heavy picks, because it will keep you out of the game for a solid moment, BUT with the C&D, you can still change disguises right after a kill and wait for cloak to recharge a little
I use the eternal reward on gunspy because i never really disguise manually and can perfectly deal with being found, so that way it just lets me make a grand entrance with little downside
I actually think the zat is better than the eyelander because it gives me the sustain to actually push in for a kill when people run away.
The eyelander takes too long for me to setup, only to die to a random crit and lose it all
My favorite non-meta weapon overall is the Claidheamh Mòr (yes a copy+pasted it) just cuz it makes for a very fun trimp-heavy hit and run demoknight
you should try out zat on stock demo sometime. downside might seem daunting, but it's not bad at all as long as you're careful about when you pull it out. the slow deploy speed is partially compensated for by the range, and getting half your hp back on kill is pretty handy. it's also funny to instakill demoknights using it. imo, it's an easy top 2 stock demo melee alongside the bottle (if we're going by how consistently good they are, anyways).
Just wish the minigun ramp-up penalty wasn't so punishing on the heater

Unpopular opinion - the YER is the meta for pub stomping. If you’re a trickstab god then sure use the kunai, but if you like to be sneaky and patient and play spy the way valve intended then I truly believe the YER is the meta.

BASED RESERVE SHOOTER ENJOYER!!! I love that gun, I use it all the time on soldier and sometimes on pyro. I really hate the wide bullet spread that the panic attack has, so the reserve shooter is the way to go for me.

I love Huo Long Heater especially in mvm but is really just a straight downgrade most of the time. It consumes so much ammo which is devastating for heavy as he is really slow because he doesn't do cardio
