Man, I’ve been looking for door “latch” videos for an entire day. Only to find one of the most simple explanations and easy to follow diy videos I’ve ever seen to help me swap out a door “catch”. Thanks for that. Well done!
Thanks for this wonderful video instruction! I was able to order the correct part and replace my mom's Whirlpool dryer dryer door,inexpensively because of this great video. Normally, it costs my parents $50, just to have their appliance warranty service come out, and diagnose the problem. However, I was able to quickly figure out what the problem was, and fixed the problem for a total of $3.99 (shipping was free Amazon.com), a savings of $46,01, which is an awesome deal, especially given that my father is a disabled veteran, and my mom had a stroke in May of this year; making finances a bit tight at the moment.

I had the right idea but I was afraid I would break the plastic or bend the metal, thanks for the vid to show it was all good lol. Btw anyone watching this who broke their catch, if you have a side swinging door check the other side opposite to your catch, there might be another catch in the door you can use as a free bee 👍

Life hack- some dryers have two latches, so you can reverse the door. If one breaks, just swap them.

Help! My dryer uses a size 018 and the smallest latch I had from the replacement pack was a 20. I used the 20 and the door won't stay latched. Is the 18 that important, or is there another issue?

Ya don't mess with hinges unless you have to.

What if my dryer has the catch on the actual dryer body opposed to the door?
There’s no need to open the cover to replace the catch . Just remove the old one with pliers or screwdriver and stick the new one in.
My opinion.
March 2019: kit comes with no instructions but package states "instruction sheet...www.ServiceMatters.com/instruct ". Enter part number there but "instructions" include only information about matching the codes on the catch. No reference there to this great video!
NOT THE PROBLEM
Door still pops open after replacing the striker and catch. Could it be the door hinge springs?
The hinges should not cause the problem unless they have been bent. Is the door hard to close? What is your model number and what part number of striker and latch did you use?
I have the same issue, replaced the striker/catch but it still pops open. The door is not hard to close, it closes fine but just pops right open. Mod WED5610XW0
