    My goodness, if the agitator bolt is rusted, it is quite the task to remove. I had to try to drill it out, which didnt work (the bit I used to drill was too large, Live and Learn), so I drilled around it to break the top piece that gets replaced by the repair kit. This video was posted 13 years ago, and is still helping keep these machines out of the landfill. In my case, I had to replace the clutch, the coupler was worn so we replaced thata too, and the agitator assembly -- all in all a cost of less than $60. I want to say I really appreciate this video, and don't usually ever comment on videos. Kudos!

    This is probably the best step by step video that I have used to do a repair on a home appliance. It literally took about 10 minutes, and everything matched up exactly as it is shown in the video.

    Can't thank you enough. Washer is back up. Cost me $40 in parts and about an hour time. Your directions were precise and clear. Thank you so much for posting these videos. I used your lid switch repair video as well as the agitator repair. Hopefully get another 13 years or so out of it.:o)

    Awesome site! I have ordered many parts online and repaired many things myself but this is the best site ever for parts as well as videos! I just happened to find the site looking for parts to repair my agitator on my 32 yr old whirlpool washer. The parts were easy to find with just the serial number and I was amazed that there was a video attached on how to repair it. The video was clear and concise and easy to follow, the parts came very quickly and are very reasonable in price and the job only took about 15 minutes. My washer is old but still works just as good as new and I did not want to replace it. The parts are exactly what were on it originally and have repaired it back to new. I hope to get many more years out of this washer. I have definitely bookmarked this site and will use it again and highly recommend it to any homeowner who likes to diy and save money. Thanks PartSelect for providing such a great service!!

    Do not bust the two tabs in the post of the agitator base! He is wrong when he says they are just for factory use. Those two tabs line up with the two holes on the bottom of the cam set, and they SNAP into those tabs to lock down the upper auger piece so it doesn’t wobble around loose.

    • @jeremielumbroso1261
      @jeremielumbroso1261 Місяць тому +1

      Thank you for explaining about the two tabs. You are quite correct, at the end, it is satisfactory to hear the "click". I think that it's hard to get the right alignment, and perhaps some non-OEM part aren't well formed, and the bolt tightens it enough, if you do follow his suggestion. But as you say, better not to!

    This UA-cam video saved me major dollars. I have a warranty for the washer but it would've cost me $100 just to get someone out to the house. The most expensive part of this install was the agitator grease. I definitely would say that this is a DIY job.

    Great job with that video! There is one model-to-model difference that may be confusing to another first-timer. On my Kitchen-Aid brand washer, the upper half, the auger, did NOT snap down onto the lower half. It justs rests there. The proof was that the grease transferred when the two parts were together -- but no snap. This only meant that during final assembly, I had to lift by holding the bottom part. It's back and working. Thank you!!!

    Good tips. I swear by Westinghouse analog washers...I've replaced them about three times now cause they're easy to fix & are real workhorses. But discovering how easy it is to replace these auger dogs (dawgs) was my contribution to saving our budget some $400-800 in a new washer. Good tips with adding grease and a new bolt. I'm over 67, a woman, and when you're not afraid of taking it apart and see how it works, anyone can do this fix with a good appliance parts store, and about 30 minutes. Nice video.

    I did this! While my washer looks exactly like the one in the video - I learned that not all washers (even if they look the same) can be drastically different. I ordered the referenced repair kit above for $8 and some change from Amazon, they also carry the "dogs" for less than $2.00, but it is an add-on item and you have to spend $35 to get free shipping. So I ordered the kit. I got impatient and visited the local appliance shop/parts shop and they charged $8 JUST for the dogs. So I replaced the dogs, and when the kit arrived, I learned that my machines assembly was different than the kit - however, I did use the gasket for the top thing (the thing you take out to get to the bolt), I also used the bolt washer, my kit didn't include a bolt. It works IT WORKS and I DID IT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEOS!! I've subscribed & liked!

      Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Why would anyone give this video a thumbs down? It took all of 15 minutes and $4.65 for parts. Without your easy to follow video, I would have had to hire a handyman or, heaven forbid, an actual washer repairman, which would have easily cost $100 just for a service call. Again, thank you!

    Videos are wonderful and have helped in the past.
    We have a problem that we can't diagnose - thus can't figure out what to replace.
    Kenmore 80 Ser. Washer.
    Fills/drains normally. Agitates - but something is "off" - tangles the clothes into knots rather than "rolling over". Makes an intermitent grind noise during agitation. Agitator dogs work when checked by hand. Spin cycle - runs normally then sudden "grind/thump" noise. Agitator stops suddenly and then resumes spin when grind noise occurs.

    I found it very difficult to snap off the factory tabs, and stopped after I finally got the first one off. It was not difficult to see how it lined up with the tabs in place. I gave it a dry run without the top part of the agitator first, just to see how it fits, and then when I put it on, it fit like a glove. My washing machine is running a load right now, working better than it has in years. Thanks!

    the kit comes in three different sizes, with three different numbers. Because the cam comes in different heights, short, medium, and long. But likely you will only need the little dogs anyhow, and they are about $7 on amazon.

    I have an issue with an estate washer I have continuing to fill up even after agitating the water won't stop filling up. Has flooded my wash room twice. I replaced both of the pressure switches already it has dual switches and still didn't fix the issue. It's not the valve because I can unplug the washing machine while it's filling up and it completely stops even with the water still turned on. When it does this sometimes I can turn the water level switch from small to large or small to medium, etc just switching it another level then back to where I had it and sometimes that makes the water stop. Is that sounding like a water level switch going out?

    What is not shown is the amount of torque that is applied a the factory to these mount bolts. I just spent about 1/2 with 2 3/8 extension bars and a 7/16 socket, a 3/8 ratchet along with a leather mallet. I had to keep hitting the handle of the ratchet until the bolt finally started coming loose. More shade tree mechanic work to get the bolt broke loose.

    I just paid a repair man to fix my old whirlpool agitator n the matching dryers timing knob a total of 417.00 which he said if i wait n they come back for the washer separatly it would cost 129.00 as apposed to the price to get it done with the dryer 87.00 i think is what he said it was . My point is he came in with a box big enough for the dryer timer n tools. It blew my mind how he got the agitator to work properly. So i tried my luck in this search and im convinced u can find anything on the internet. He could have had those parts in his tool bag. Although i feel sick cause this video is so good i could have done it myself and saved myself much needed money. Lifes a journy u live n u learn.

I immediately found the part on Amazon for $4.65. I just did the repair myself and it was so easy. I wondered how much it would cost to have it repaired had I hired someone. Wow! I'm so sorry that happened to you, though. I hate being ripped of by mechanics, appliance repairman, etc.

    Great video, but it doesn't tell what to do if the top half won't come off. On some Whirlpool models mine for example the agitator cam has four tabs on top that were heated somehow at the factory this keeps it in place during assembly. This will prevent removal. You cannot simply pull it off.
    My solution was to use a long (8 inch) small bladed screwdriver and a hammer to cut the melted part free from the tabs. A couple of taps on each one and the top will come off easily. Hope this helps!

    • @partselect
      @partselect  8 років тому

      The action of the agitator should be quiet. If you rotate the auger portion of the agitator it should only turn in one direction and you would hear a slight clicking sound only. It should not rotate in the opposite direction and if so, you may have assembled the parts incorrectly.

    My Whirlpool washer Model # LSQ9110PW3 doesn't spin well. I take out the agitatior assembly as you demonstrated and it sounds that the agitator dogs are worn out. But I could not seperate
    the upper part from the base part. No matter how hard I have tried, I still fail in proceeding with the repair. Can you or anybody tell me what reason it could be? Awaiting advice!

    • @partselect
      @partselect  7 років тому +1

      The agitator dogs should not cause the symptom of poor spin. First, verify that the washer drains properly. Next, check the drive block under the agitator to verify that it is locked into the spin tube properly. If these are okay, then you should look at the clutch assembly as a possible cause for this symptom.

    Good evening sirs. I am having trouble with my Washer / Dryer Model LTE6234DQ4 and the agitator dogs. However, when I saw the video I did the test with the agitator base and it does not rotate to the left or to the right. It is locked. The top agitator rotates clockwise but locks when turned counterclockwise. That means it is working fine, correct?
    The problem is that the motor of the washing machine works, but the agitator does not move and in fact, the base agitator is blocked.
    Consequently, I must ask you if I can still be considered to have a problem with the upper agitator dogs or if it is a problem with the basket shaft or with the plastic ring of the agitator impeller or with the shaft / bell blocker.
    I saw Whirpool's videos to disassemble the basket, the shaker dogs and they make mention on the agitator base that it should turn to one side only, but not that it is locked.
    I will try to get the agitator out in the way you show in the video and there, I will see what is happening.
    Will you have any recommendations for a washer / dryer check-up for me?
    What can I do, should I change the brake and drive tube?
    I appreciate your patience with me.
    Yours truly

    Took the agitator bolt off but now I can't remove the agitator on my kenmore s500. Sounds like something is holding it in place and won't come up. Has anyone had this problem?

    Thanks Steve, I have a whirpool washer exactly like the one you are working on video , followed the steps and pulled out the entire agitator out . But I can not separate the top one even with feet on the bottom and pulling the top , it can not be separated , . Looks like they are one piece ! Any help at this point , ? Appreciate any advice ,

    Can you tell me the reason you replaced the agitator bolt as well? Just curious.

      Often, the rubber gasket on the agitator bolt is damaged, and the new bolt also comes with a coating of thread locker on it. We replaced the bolt mainly because it was included in the kit.

      From Amazon, the bolt is an optional add-on for a couple more bucks. I figured somebody knew something, so I went for it. Happy that I got it right.

    I have a whirlpool washer LSR7333PQO model and the clutch needs to be replaced. The issue I am having involves the removal of the agitator. The screw has been removed but the agitator will not come out. I even used a crow bar and it is stuck. What is holding the agitator in the tub.

      Treedoctor2014 It sounds like the spline on the agitator base has fused to the agitator shaft. You may need an agitator puller to remove it, or you could try cutting the old one off and replacing it.

    Anyone know what this is? Small Brass Nail with flat side and small hole at bottom of nail ...looks like it locks something into place.. I was repairing the clutch assembly. And this mystery piece came out of my washer.... Please let me know

    • @partselect
      @partselect  2 роки тому

      The is a lock pin the manufacture uses to keep the suspension system in place for shipping when new. When it was new it had a yellow strap that had to be pulled which released two and on some 3 clevis pins. Thos brass looking pins dropped into a cup on frame. You can discard it, it is no longer required

    A word of advice to anyone planning on doing this - my washer looks exactly like this one but the agitator is different on the inside, the parts do not fit at all. Make sure to look at your agitator and make sure it's a match before ordering parts. I honestly didn't imagine that they would be that entirely different that what is in mine, but as soon as I took it apart ... yeah. it's all good, the dogs were all i really needed for the repair so. but yeah.. now if you'll excuse me i'll go hang my head in shame. well not so much because the dogs did fix it.
