John Deere 100 Series Lawn Tractor Mower Deck Level and Adjustment - Easy Step by Step

- Both a critical maintenance task, and a requirement for setting up a new tractor as received, the level and adjustment of the mower deck is critical to the efficient operation of the tractor and the health of the grass.
Ill point out that the diagram in the book is missing a measuring point in it though it is easily accounted for. The cutting of 2in blocks is highly recommended for this task. Note as explained that tyre pressure is absolutely critical to this process and must be set before starting.
The 130 Series is the only one not set to the 2in position, it is set to 2 1/4 position for this exercise.
All adjustments are made with a 15mm wrench or ratchet.
Remember the wheels are never set on delivery because it is based on the grass cut height; a personal preference.

Excellent video. Succinct and informative with great camera angles. Thank you for taking time to make it.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for providing this video. I now have my new 130 dialed in! My tires were WELLLLLLL over inflated! And I subbed.
Thanks for the sub!
Great video, easy to follow! I just purchased a used S100 with only 20 hrs on it. I should have watched this video before I cut the grass!
Excellent video. It made the adjustments easy to understand. Most home owners don't realize that the shiny new mower isn't always correctly set up. This vid made it easy, thank you Sir.
You're welcome.
What a helpful video!! Thanks so much!!
You’re welcome!
Probably the best instructional video I’ve seen on this topic. Straight to the point and accurate!! THANK YOU!
You're welcome.
Agreed!
Thanks for the video on leveling the John Deere mower deck! It was most helpful to me!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video! Thanks for the walkthrough!
Glad it was helpful!
Great job! I didn’t realize that you have to finish by lowering the front 1-2 turns. Thanks!
Glad to help!
Same here, they say it avoids a 2nd cut and avoids browning the tips of the grass.
Thanks for the very detailed instructions. I will use them to adjust my deck. 👌
Glad to help
Excellent video! Now I am going to try it on mine.
Thanks, I followed these steps to adjust my deck. I didn’t realize it was way off level.
Glad it helped!
Valuable information, thanks.
You're welcome.
Great video. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
Excellent, thanks so much
You're very welcome!
A nice video. I only have one height guage. I bring the guage with me when I move from one location to another. I also use the guage to check if the blades are leveled. I have a LA115. The blades are about 1/4 in. above the bottom of the deck.
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
Great information. Something to keep in mind. Its not common sense to everyone. Its why we all flock to UA-cam to learn it.
I'm thrown off. When you said you were adjusting the lever to 2-1/4, it looks like you actually set it at 2-3/4???
Great video, quick question, at the end it showed your scalp wheels still in the upper position, did you change them back?
My john deere 115 lawn mower deck hangs up on left side at the leveling bolt how do I fix this
If you could do a video on tightening the tension on the belt of a JD e110. TIA
This video sent me back to the owner's manual of my rider mower; yup, there is an adjustment for deck height/leveling. I just wish my mower had anti-scalping wheels too.
Is your manual missing the location for the 3rd 2 inch leveling block on the diagram?
@@retrotechandelectronics Oops, different brand of lawn tractor, but the basic designs are very similar. Your procedure can be conceptually applied to a wide range of mowers even if the details differ. Mine has a different adjuster for left-to-right leveling (it's adjusted from the right side only), but no front to back attack angle adjustment. It was an inexpensive mower, sooo...
Awesome instructional video. Very informative and thorough.
Glad it was helpful!
so if i'm setting at the 3" position I go 3 1/4 to adjust right
How about the Center rollers under the deck? Should they also be off the ground?
Hello Sir,you said all 100 series are to be set at 2 inch level except the 130.The manual says set at 2.5 inches.??
He even shows the manual, that shows 2.5 inches. Wtf.
@@cmh2111 I tried to level the deck with 2 inch blocks and the deck set at 2.5 inches and I ran out of thread on the adjusting rods.I had to set the deck level to 2 inches with the 2 in blocks. It's level and cuts great.
the S130 is at 2 1/4 versus the other ones at 2.5, states that in the manual
@@jackhayward3144 Another video I watch said to start with the deck raised all the way up to the 4" mark and they raise the deck if it doesn't seem that it raised it that much off the ground, this will give you more play with the side adjusters. Good luck.
Will this work for a D125
What if my garage floor isn’t completely level? It’s all flat, but not 100% level
Great video. How about the John Deere 190C?
Sorry I do not have a 190c available.
What about the back anti-scalping wheels?
If you have back anti scalping wheels they would be adjusted under the same criteria.
My rear adjusts are out of thread on adjustment rods! What do u think could be up
Another video I watch said to start with the deck raised all the way up to the 4" mark and they raise the deck if it doesn't seem that it raised it that much off the ground, this will give you more play with the side adjusters. Good luck.
Why not measure the blades instead of the deck?
I spoke with my local John Deere Service Center and we looked-up the repair specifications for the 100 series lawn tractors. The correct blade height lever setting BEFORE making adjustments to fit a 2” block is 2.5” according to John Deere. To be clear, set your blade height lever at the 2.5” mark. This video incorrectly states setting the lever to 2” for the 100 series lawn tractors. Excellent video otherwise.
In the manual for the S130 it specifically states to go to 2 1/4, that is from the JD manual versus a service store person. A JD service center sold me a grease gun that he said hose will bend to fit all zerks, , LOL, not even close to being right.... To Lowes it was to get the right one......
