Awesome videos - I have a John deere d105 with the welded on bracket vs the adjustable one that has two bolts you can loosen and tighten the belt. Have you figured out belt tension can be adjusted on this machine? Using jd belt exact part and the belt is very loose even when engaged - everything seems to be spinning freely with no pully or spindle issues. Have seen tons of this same problem but haven’t found a solution? Belts just won’t last as they get torn up from being too loose……LOVE the mower other than this!

Your channel is just simply awesome! I’ve got to do this to my Husqvarna riding mower this weekend. Come to find out those sealed bearings from the factor in the spindle last a grand total of 74 hours. From your channel and others I’ve learned to to make it so that never happens again. At least not from a lack of grease. This thing basically exploded out the bottom. I heard a change in sound as I was mowing but because of the high grass I was in I thought it had just caked on and would clear in a turn or two. It was NOT grass, it was a part entirely engineered to fail! There are no zerk fittings, even if it had one the bearings are sealed! Shady af if you ask me. Wow the deck removal looks so much more complicated than the cub z force I used to ride. I could drop and reattach that thing like a nascar pitstop. Thank you for your videos, the education, and of course the entertainment. You are awesome.
When you have the deck removed and apart it is also an excellent opportunity to service the arm that the clutching idler is on (clean & grease the bushing it pivots on and maybe even replace the pivot bushing if it shows any wear at all). As always a great job.

Your expertise and guidance on maintaining and repairing this equipment is invaluable and has/will save me significant time in doing both! Thank you for your outstanding information and guidance!
So clear, easy to follow, and simple enough for first timers to do it. I found your presentation so refreshingly understandable it made tackling the job far less stressful. The video portions showed exactly what needed to be done and how to do it. If I were female, I would have even more raves about even more aspects but, suffice it to say, this was the best step-by-step mechanical how-to I have ever seen on UA-cam! BRAVA! And thank you.
You made the understatement of the year, that was you were "slammed right now", unless you have a large crew working on these repairs, you are closer to being buried! great information, amazing to me that owners don't check under the deck to see what's binding things up. thanks for sharing on this video, this is a great video, as always your presentation in front of the camera is amazing.
I rebuilt the deck on my sister-in laws JD LA 105 3 years ago, I did the whole works! Watching you video brought back memories. Thanks for the tip on the deck reinforcement ring, her deck will need one some day.

I took my JD 110 mower to the dealership to put a new compression realize and cam in it. T explained what was wrong with it to the dealership what was wrong with it. They then charged me 47 dollars to tell me the same thing I had told them. Then they said it would take 12 hrs of labor pluss parts. Labor 125.00 an hr. I watched your viedo and repaired it in 3 hrs. And 260.00 dollars in parts. From hear on out I've watched you and only you. Thank you so much. You are a life savor.
I love that you identify what tools, including sizes, you are using. The more of your videos I watch the more I like your presentation/explanation of each step. I changed my belt two years ago and it took me forever to get the new belt on correctly. You made it look so simple. I'm getting ready to replace my deck blades...😕 One thing I always check whenever I remove my deck is to make sure its level when I put it back on. It's a simple adjustment and only takes a couple minutes. I also grease the fittings.
Since part of my deck is flat, from one side to the other, I use a long-level tool to ensure that the blades are level too. Same method to adjust the deck pitch.
A great video and all the information is given in easy to understand form so no mistakes, I run a small gardening business in the UK and there are many times you need to work on the machine in the field so this kind of knowledge is great for many. Keep up the good work
Well I am a almost 60-year-old lady who does not know anything about lawn mowers and I am having problems with my John Deere la100 series and I just watched your video and I am fully informed! What a great video I will subscribe immediately! Turns out what I thought (and my thought I mean assumed) was wrong with it isn't even what's wrong with it! This video was extremely helpful! I am ready to do this now! Thank you! So awesome to see a lady doing these videos! I got to see what else you have posted now!
I have used many of the major brands over the years and depending on what type of job you need them for they all have their strong and weeks points. Personally I have found that what works best for my needs is a Stiga all wheel drive with the deck in front instead of under the machine, e.g. the Park Pro series. This allows you to easily get into corners, between bushes and shrubs etc. and allows for super easy access to the deck whether it is for cleaning, servicing, sharpening blades, or whatever. They are a bit pricey but have outlived anything else I have tried and should be worth the investment in the long run.
I WORKED IN SHOPS OVER 25 YEARS AS A MECHANIC. STILL TURN WRENCHES TODAY AT 58 YEARS OLD. I HAVE ALWAYS WORN SHORTS AND TEE SHIRTS BUT HAVE NEVER EVER SEEN A MECHANIC TURN WRENCHES IN FLIP FLOPS.
I was just looking for a video to show me how to change a belt and found your video. I feel so much more confident about doing it myself! And if I have other problems under my deck, after watching this video, I have no doubt I could handle those, too. Thanks!
Just wonderfully clear photography - heck that must be a lot of work..... And the explanations are very easy to follow...... i hope John Deere at least acknowledges your work
Just bought a John Deere D105 today from the pawnshop. Got it home and was super excited to cut the grass only to soon find out that there was no belt on it. I called the pawnshop and spoke with the manager. She offered to give me my money back or pay for a belt. I chose to let them buy the belt. Because I did a quick UA-cam search and found your video and saw how easy it is to replace the belt. I bought this mower for a really good deal. It has low hours and looks like new. I did get a 6 month warranty just in case though. When I put the belt on tomorrow I will check out all of the other deck parts now that I know what to look for. Thanks for sharing this great video.
I cannot believe you are only at 16k. You have saved me a bunch of money with your tutorials. I saw my small engine mechanic at his retirement party and he asked why I hadn’t been in for any repairs. He was sure I had hired a yard service and wasn’t using of my yard toys. I didn’t tell him the truth.😉
lol, glad i found your video. up until now all i could find were guys showing me how to change the stupid belt. never occurred to me the pulleys were seized from fabric, and just being worn out after a decade of use. cheers to you, now for the fun part........
Excellent tutorial, I’ve got to replace all three spindles and give my mower deck a complete overhaul. Thanks to this awesome video, I feel very confident in my ability to make it happen. Thanks
Thank you sooo much for the detailed instructions, for belt replacement on 100 series John Deeres! I just had a failure on our D110, where the lining of the blade brake on the LHS actually wore down, went metal to metal with the pulley, and moved the brake bracket to the other side, making a little dent in the outer rim of the pulley in the process. Thanks once again, to the government, for mandating safety equipment on these decks, and creating more service and reliability issues. Light bulb went on, and you didn't hear it from me, removed both blade brakes, and it's running slicker that snot!! Back to KEEPING IT SIMPLE, ONCE AGAIN!! Peace.
Thanks for this video. I didn't know anything about how to replace the belt and I found your video and managed to replace the belt and blades on my own. You are a very good teacher and I really appreciate you explaining everything so well and simply so that I can follow! I was wondering... We now have a problem with the differentials. I realize it's a much bigger problem but found a guy who can fix it for us. But I need to figure out how to remove the transmission and take it to him for repair. Not really sure how to do that and how complicated it would be. Would you be able to make a video on this by any chance?
Boy! I wish I had watched your JD Deck video years ago. Not only would it have saved me money but a lot of time. No sending it out to the shop to change blades, belts and grease. GREAT VIDEO !!!
i"ve got an JD LA135 with the 42 inch deck. I figured that stuff out as I went when everything started howling and screaming. I learned a thing from Steves Small Engine Saloon about the grease zerks on those spindles. Basically they don't do anything because the bearings are sealed and there's no way to get the grease into the bearing, unless you follow his advice.
Great Video! I wished I would have watched this before I took my deck off the first time! Would have saved me hours of frustration! Great explanation, step by logical step and pleasant demeanor to boot! Thank you for for sharing you expertise.
How do you deal with the flaking-off paint (or powder coating) on the D/L series decks? Mine's flaking in pieces measured in inches. Strip and paint it all or just paint the spots? I long for the days of enameled metal on the Sixties-Seventies 110-and-up Deeres.
strip it & rust treat it both sides then, etch primer, couple coats & paint.....how many coats up to you.... Abit of work but worth it for yourself considering new decks are costly!
This is probably the best video I've seen about John Deere repair. Video showing the parts as you were making the repairs was great for a novice like me. Your commentary was excellent. Thank you so much!

When the deck belt gets stretched on the older John Deere’s, you can loosen the 2 bolts on the PTO cable bracket and slide the bracket back about 1/4 inch and tighten the belt. I know you cannot do it on some of the E models as the bracket is welded to the deck
As many others say, I appreciate the detail and completeness of your description. I probably would have sharpened the blades and pressure washed the deck, but that's me and I get it that they probably only wanted the problem fixed. thanks for not throwing the rope and shirt on the lawn.
This is off subject of today's video but I tried using a tool you recommended several months ago to repair the cracked plastic hood on one of my John Deere garden tractors. It worked as advertised. Thanks for the tip.
One time we had a customer set their chainsaw case up on our counter to leave it with us. We opened the box and out crawled a bunch of COCKROACHES!! That was the worst.
When I worked at a Snapper dealer in the 90's we had a customer bring in a riding mower to repair. It was SO dirty you couldn't harley tell it was a mower. So I took the time to pressure wash it before I did anything. When the customer came to get her mower, she reamed my a** out good for washing it! She said that she wanted it fixed, not washed! She said she could have washed it herself! 😐 Just can't win.
@@christophermeyer6414 I had a neighbor bring me their chainsaw in the case…I open it and a curl up snake was there 😱…dead though 🤣😅😂…how it got in there I never ask. 😂😅🤣
Ya know when I would get an extremely dirty engine or mower, I'd tell them up front that I will have to clean and charge them as part of the bill, just can't do a good job or open a crankcase with them dirty, its ok if they take somewhere else, and I don't mean that in a bad way...
Thanks ! I appreciate the simplicity of the video and giving me the courage to begin the process. It was no big deal! I always think it’s going to be more than I can handle and your video helped me realize I could do it!
Thank you for this tutorial. I have an E100 and the belt keeps slipping off. The local dealer wants $600 to do this. I'm fairly mechanically inclined and after watching your excellent, explained in simple terms video, I'm tackling it myself. Great work!
Thanks so much for this. I’m looking at buying a used E180 for $800, but they said it “needs a new drive pulley”. All of this looks like pretty simple DIY repairs thanks to your thorough video !!!!
My hubby we to yech school on commercial aircraft...wound up working on G.S.E equipment under strict O.E.M. standards...but after retirement, he has many ways to innovate things like bearing swap-outs...he also learned to put those hairpin clips, washers, spacers, etc. back into their original positions to avoid losing or mixing them up, or at least using plastic sealable sandwich baggies/zip ties at these locations...at his age now, he does not have the ability to remember where and how the original hardware is installed...he also is thinking about contacting a local pro powder-coating shop to bring deck up to a modified standard for easier maintenance/cleaning!! Like another commenter on this J.D. deck vid you pisted almost a year ago, most "pro-shops" just "fix" what is "wrong" at a very high rip-off price Thx for all your honesty and sharing...we watching how you got this deck backn in service! @lds/aes
Thanks for keeping your hands out of the way. I recommend everyone photographs every deck they work on while they are correct. While the 100 series are straight forward on how the deck hangs, others are not and should be photographed as well. We have a family member that likes to "fix" things. Parts have ended up missing, things installed incorrectly. Figuring out what is missing and where it goes isn't as easy when you weren't the one to take it apart.
I changed mandrel or spindles on a craftsman. The pulleys were chewed up and wollowed out where they contact to turn the shaft that turns the blade. Brand new spindles, pulleys, blades and belt and they wore out immediately. I had to buy new pulleys and tack weld them to the nut to fix it. I didn't have you to ask what else to do so I basically Kevineered it. Thanks for the channel so I might not have to Kevgeneere things like that again.
Excellent video with detailed instructions. I've watched other videos that weren't anywhere as good as this. I bought a JD E120 lawn tractor about 4 years ago and haven't had an issue with the deck. I also clean my tractor and mower deck after each use. I cringed when I saw how filthy the deck was in this video. When the time comes for deck maintenance, I will refer to this video. I've also converted the EZ oil change feature to the conventional oil and filter change which saves a ton when doing that maintenance.
I have an x300 series mower and have done all the above albeit quite a bit different yet. I’ve had to change the pot clutch too but also not difficult. I watched this video so I can help my neighbors out. I’m so thankful to you and others for making these videos which make these repairs so much easier for all of us. 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏

If I were female, I would have even more raves about even more aspects but, suffice it to say, this was the best step-by-step mechanical how-to I have ever seen on UA-cam! BRAVA! And thank you.
Thank you so much!
I am female and know nothing about this stuff and this video was perfect! I have many raves! You are right!
Thank you! 80% of all the equipment there is finished and just hasn't been picked up yet. I can blow through 8-10 2 cycles a day.
@@Chickanic that is amazing, are you experiencing parts shortages?,
I hate telling people I’m doing it as fast and correct
Yet they really think at 71 I can still work nights and all day
I thoroughly enjoy your demonstration videos. You explain everything you're doing and make look so simple. Keep those videos coming!
Thank you so much!
I love your UA-cam You're very good mechanic new drive belt
Good job new drive belt.

I rebuilt the deck on my sister-in laws JD LA 105 3 years ago, I did the whole works! Watching you video brought back memories. Thanks for the tip on the deck reinforcement ring, her deck will need one some day.
Best JD belt-changing video out there - Now I'm a "pro" at this because of this pro!
WOW!!! I have a LA105…& was just thinking about this subject matter. YOU ARE A BLESSING!!!
Thank You So Much!!!
💯💯💯💯
Awesome! Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

Ms Chickani-Brie…can you do a video on LA100 series changing the tires (front/back don’t matter which)…my tires need changing but other videos don’t explain like you do…you make it easy for my brain to learn from the way you teach and show. Thank You Madam.
Almost as if she read my mind 😆
Oh, deck…now it makes more sense. Your channel is saving me thousands of $$! Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much!! As a single female this gave me the boost I need to try it tomorrow. Thanks again for posting and making the video!
Same method to adjust the deck pitch.
nice to see a step by step how to take the deck apart the new parts how to put them back in thanks richard from vancouver island canada
Your videos are excellent and very informative. Thank you for taking the time to make them and sharing your knowledge!👍👍
I was just looking for a video to show me how to change a belt and found your video. I feel so much more confident about doing it myself! And if I have other problems under my deck, after watching this video, I have no doubt I could handle those, too. Thanks!
Hope you get to 20k before long great videos very informative thanks for all you do
Just wonderfully clear photography - heck that must be a lot of work..... And the explanations are very easy to follow...... i hope John Deere at least acknowledges your work
Glad to watch a well versed female mechanic, instead of one who calls parts "thingies", I'll be back
Gizmo my all time fav w hickeymajig runnin a close 2nd
Hope this channel keeps growing. Once word gets out, I think your channel will grow like Andrew Camarata's.
Congrats on your growth
lol, glad i found your video. up until now all i could find were guys showing me how to change the stupid belt. never occurred to me the pulleys were seized from fabric, and just being worn out after a decade of use.
cheers to you, now for the fun part........
Would you consider doing a video on leveling the deck?
Excellent tutorial, I’ve got to replace all three spindles and give my mower deck a complete overhaul. Thanks to this awesome video, I feel very confident in my ability to make it happen. Thanks
Great video question when installing the spindle ring does it spec longer bolts to compensate for the thickness of the ring
Great question. I should had addressed that in the video, because you are correct. You will need longer bolts.
I usually clean and touch up my deck with primer/paint every season as needed. If you can prevent the decks from rusting they'll last a while.
Nice job! I love hanging around do it yourself, independent people. You’re obviously one! Cheers!
This is probably the best video I've seen about John Deere repair. Video showing the parts as you were making the repairs was great for a novice like me. Your commentary was excellent. Thank you so much!
I agree john deere makes the best tractor lawnmowers! The cut quality is amazing I have a newer model though e120 20 hp briggs n Stratton love that mower! I just subscribed to your channel hope to see more videos of yours soon! Keep up the great work!
I watch a lot of Utube videos on small equipment repair. I find yours among the best. Very professional presentation
Nice watching someone else working on dam JD's , down here it's cheaper to replace the bearings than the spindle 🤗🇳🇿
Americans generally don't know how to rebuild anything, they just replace it with new.
Are you including your time in that statement?
@@andrewmckinley6571 At $50 an hour during work hours. Yes yes I am. I don't paid at night and I can do this watching tv. And NZ prices for stuff are hell expensive so I'm also saving money at the same time.
I’m currently working on the deck mower on my ancient L100. Watching your video has saved me some serious frustration! Thank you. Liked and subscribed!
Excellent vid as always, Happy beer:30.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEO'S YOU MAKE THEM EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND MENTION THE OTHER SIDES HAVING THE SAME PINS ETC. AND VERY CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS AND VIDEO SHOWING EACH STEP , MANY OTHERS COULD LEARN FROM YOU !
ALSO THANKS FOR NOT HAVING OBNOXIOUS MUSIC PLAYING IN THE Background GROUNDING OUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND TALKING ABOUT . AGAIN YOUR VIDEOS ARE VERY PROFESSIONAL AND WELL MADE AND CAN HELP OTHERS ALOT, I HAVE JUST STARTED WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS . TWO THUMBS WAY UP .
Thank you for your video - I was able to get the deck out, blades checked, deck cleaned and belt back on and the mowing at my Mums finished. 😊
If only I were 25 years younger and still able to crouch down!
Hi there. I work on equipment here at my home in New Hampshire. I came across your videos recently, and really enjoy them. Thanks for sharing! ~Rick
You are the gal Brie you make it look so easy that a old man like me can do it lol
Thanks Darlin'!
Thank you I’ve watched this video over and over to fix my deck on my mower and my gm so thank you so much saved me so much money.
Looks like that was black landscaping fabric that you had to cut out of that one blade. wonder where they picked that up. LOL
its what the body was wrapped in or so i'm told
This is off subject of today's video but I tried using a tool you recommended several months ago to repair the cracked plastic hood on one of my John Deere garden tractors. It worked as advertised. Thanks for the tip.
Don’t you just “love it” when people bring you dirty equipment. I always make sure I clean my stuff before sending in for service.
@@christophermeyer6414
I had a neighbor bring me their chainsaw in the case…I open it and a curl up snake was there 😱…dead though 🤣😅😂…how it got in there I never ask. 😂😅🤣
Ya know when I would get an extremely dirty engine or mower, I'd tell them up front that I will have to clean and charge them as part of the bill, just can't do a good job or open a crankcase with them dirty, its ok if they take somewhere else, and I don't mean that in a bad way...
Bought an LA115 from my dad last year. Watching this video, I am now more confident if I have deck issues. THANKS!!!

THANKS!
@@Chickanic No. Thank you for putting up videos that actually quickly get to the point and are needed!!! Great camera. Great sound clear voice.

Thanks ! I appreciate the simplicity of the video and giving me the courage to begin the process. It was no big deal!
I always think it’s going to be more than I can handle and your video helped me realize I could do it!
Dang it. He beat me. Lol
Fast notifications! Lol!
On the transaxle transmission or on the engines shaft
My hubby we to yech school on commercial aircraft...wound up working on G.S.E equipment under strict O.E.M. standards...but after retirement, he has many ways to innovate things like bearing swap-outs...he also learned to put those hairpin clips, washers, spacers, etc.
back into their original positions to avoid losing or mixing them up, or at least using plastic sealable sandwich baggies/zip ties at these locations...at his age now, he does not have the ability to remember where and how the original hardware is installed...he also is thinking about contacting a local pro
powder-coating shop to bring deck up to a modified standard for easier maintenance/cleaning!!
Like another commenter on this J.D.
deck vid you pisted almost a year ago, most "pro-shops"
just "fix" what is "wrong" at a very high rip-off price
Thx for all your honesty and sharing...we watching how you got this deck backn in service!
@lds/aes
This was an entertaining and informative video on Deere E110 deck repairs. I greatly appreciate your assistance.
Just changed a broken belt on a friend's JD S100 without seeing this video. I did watch another video and struggled through it but succeeded. I wish I had found your video first. Excellent step by step instruction. Great job! Would have cut the time on my project in half.
Thank you very much! I've owned a John Deere D110 for a number of years and your tutorial is one the best that i've found. Thanks again from Cape Cod.
