- The Roland SE-02 Analog Synthesizer is a collaborative effort from Roland and Studio Electronics, that uses authentic discrete circuitry to create an analog synth with a distinctly American sound.
The Roland SE-02 synthesizer has all of the warm, rounded bass tones and smooth, glassy leads that you would expect from its all-analog architecture.
But a new generation of synthesists, producers and musicians requires a new sound, and the Roland SE-02 goes far beyond into inspiring sonic territories.
Explore the power of its performance sequencer, over 500 expertly-crafted preset patches, its complex oscillator and filter modulations with XMOD and FEEDBACK, and in-built delay. Discover thick textures, percussive patches and ethereal effects for a whole new dimension to a classic sound.

Now, if Roland and Studio Electronics came out with a poly/paraphonic version of this synth, with some extra effects, that would literally break the synth world
It's quite real, I have a homemade synthesizer, I'm very satisfied.ua-cam.com/video/z_lQwuRtSb4/v-deo.html
I love Greg! He and his brothers are from Detroit like me! I remember a dude stole my SE-1 after he tried to destroy it. He wanted to sell it But greed he didn't sell it as is. He put it in the shop to repair. I had a hunch that he would try to repair it. I called Greg and he said one came in beat-up saying his girlfriend did it. He looked in it and saw my personal presets and Greg said this is your unit. He gave the dude an excuse while I called the deceptive to be able to get it back. I had to pay for the repairs and we became friends. He even liked my patches and may have used them in future SE 1's. He's a Godsend for us Musicians/songwriters/music producers
Now Roland, you are in the right path
I want to cry, Roland finally!!!
It took almost 30 years, and for once I'm starting to hear THAT Roland Holy Grail sound. This is a dream starting to come true.
Roland getting ready to step up, and let everyone know who once they were!!
C mon Roland give us back the Jupiter 4, Jupiter 6, Jupiter 8, Juno !!!
I swear people just thumbs down because it's Roland these days but this sounds and looks very promising.
yeah this is BS nobody needs another monosynth, especially ones at 500 dollars ; I'll never buy roland stuff ;
If they really want to get back in the game, what we really need is the new analog TR of the future !
a what
I also wantto do thumbs down because they only talk in this movie, no proof, better watch that other movie.
Aa Bs wow, by the time you go out for your fav ice-cream, reviews from synth sites & blogs will be done. chill.
Roland is finally on the right path - true analog synths. Thank god its finally happened. I've spent 15+ years hoping this day would come. Please redo your Juno and Jupiter synths in true analog. Do a crowd funding campaign if necessary. Make it happen. In the meantime I will try out this new synths
I absolutely love this product. It has changed my understanding of sound and music. The mono sound has expanded my ear to hear sound and music together. (Yes, I know that sounds stupid.) Literally, this instrument came make one sound alone musical. The unbelievable sound of this instrument with the sequencer is a lesson in music creation. You can produce harmony and rhythm with one note!
Typically, what you are told in product videos is exaggerated marketing. In this case there is most likely no exaggeration. This is amazing. Thank you Roland! :) I didn't think we would see the day for something like this to happen. I guess, I have to buy one. If you make a 19" version with bigger knobs for a little higher price, I'll buy that, too.
Thank you both, Roland & Studio Electronics! The SE-1 is one of my most used synths.
Hell yes, I love my SE-1X!!!
Dream collaboration! Here's hoping we are also getting a new analogue drum synth on the final reveal date (23rd).
no shit Roland - this looks really cool. 3 osc mono analog synth packed with features at a reasonable price! Very excited!
What a dream collaboration! This is going to be amazing!
This is what i need in my life! The other Boutique i own (JU, JX, JP) are great, but this is promising to be something else! Shut up and take my money!
3 osc for under 500 from Roland and Studio electronics? Yes please! I definitely don't need another mono but now I want one.
Take my money!!!! Thank you Roland and Studio Electronics, this is absolutely awesome!!
I am totally interested in this synth. The sounds demonstrated are just fantastic. With 380 something patches already designed to go this thing is amazing. The sounds seem so rich and full and usable Roland may have hit the jackpot with their new partnership. You don't want your synth to sound like a flute, or a piano, or a violin...you want it to sound like a synth. This has synthiness in spade fulls. This is a brilliant instrument and takesRoland out of their dated genres. I want it now but will have to save up for it. Great stuff Roland!!
Nice! You can never have too much Studio Electronics.
Well done, Roland. You finally got it right :) I hope you continue your journey with SE.
A collaboration of 2 of the best synth makers in the world!!
Exciting!!!
After seeing this I want to buy one, even when I already have one
Sounds awesome, added this synth to my wishlist! ;)
I'm so happy now! I love it!
I'm glad Roland partnered with someone else who knew about true analog. Don't get me wrong, the Juno 106 and the Jupiter are true analog, however when was the last time Roland put out anything that wasn't digital!! Decades I tell you.....decades 😳
Bout time Roland.....bout bloody time
Roland has always been awesome in many ways. Very very Cool synth!
🤖✨ love it! Bravo Roland.
I have already pre ordered the TR 08 and the SE 02. Can't wait.
I got one and it’s an incredible music/studio/live performance tool
This looks like a very smart thing to do. Combine the manufacturing and marketing power of Roland with the design specialty of SE, and create something that sounds great, costs great, and gives people a new synth combined with a classic approach. I hope this is a great product and I also hope that it is the first of more things like this.
Amazing !!!
This is such a special synthesizer
Superb !
RIP - Ikutaro Kakehashi (1930 - 2017)
me gusta este modelo de Roland saludos desde tijuana MX
This is a good direction for Roland. Kudos! I like Studio Electronics too.
Very nice, well done.
einfach nur Top Der Sound hat mich wirklich überascht
Truly impressing. It will sell like ice-cream.
Big fan of SE. this is awesome!
That bass line for the first fifty seconds, or so. I could groove to that, indefinitely.
Great that Roland are responding to demand.
Finally a great product from Rola . . . . oh wait, this is from Studio Electronics, a great company.
Sounds Cool
Nice video and synth is in route now.
awesome!
Great!!
I vowed never to buy another mono synth but of course then I heard this. Ive found all the analog synths I have owned to be sort of one trick ponies but this si clearly something different. Im no synth guru but I can tell this thing is truly on another level compared to many modern analog monons
Cool !
very cool
Jupiter 8 MKII may actually happen!!!!
Mr. Roland (R.I.P) was against making analog synthesizers while he was alive. Now that he is gone expect Roland to start the analog synth process again. Baby steps, folks.
There was no Mr. Roland. If you mean Ikutaro Kakehashi, he spent decades designing and building analog synths, so you are completely misinformed.
my new synth to go!!! :)
This is going to be a really good device :D
Wowzer
Cool.
YES!!!
Im sold
If it does the sound from 2:17 to 2:22 in real life, I'm sold.
Oh yes, I have one and man it’s so easy to get to that sound it’s almost laughable lol
it was about time ..
finally an analog synth from roland
Finally!
nice
yes is great...
I'd buy one
Shit people! They finally release something Analogue and you still moan. no pleasing some.
I won't speak for anyone else but one product doesn't immediately undo years of eyebrow-raising on my part. And it seems barely their product to begin with. It's neat they're doing this but they've also released the Reon Driftbox and Malekko System 500 so it's not completely out of their wheelhouse.
I think a lot of people wanted but didn't expect Roland to do analog. And we are talking analog 808, 909, Juno, SH-101.. ya know... Roland analog. How man ladder filters did Roland use back in the day?
Regardless, I don't immediately love it just because it is analog. Not that I'm complaining about its existence, just adding my two cents. Studio Electronics has lots and lots of good sounding euro modules and desktop synths. Still, $500 can buy a lot of mono synths these days.
Huh... I thought my post was fairly neutral and well opined. But youtube commentors getting their panties in a twist is now the normal these days. You should unbunch that quickly. And Studio Electronics did most of the heavy work here bud... I think you skipped over that part. And I'm not even really complaining! Jeez, I can have opinions on Roland products because I've bought them.. and mostly regretted them. I actually think the SE-02 is neat and sounds good.
I don't see too many people complaining about it.
People want synth that will compose by itself and feed you while jamming and change your diapers same time.
Analog with presets. Sold.
BOOMSTAR DIED FOR THIS!
This looks good ;)
At least this on has a real AC plug. But still the knobs look ridiculously small
@@HeIiosphan Although it’s impressive they managed to get this to fit in the boutique format, the fact that it requires AC power makes me wonder why they didn’t just make it bigger. If it’s not portable, why cram it into a small box with tiny knobs? That said, I personally like the small size because I have a small studio and don’t have space for full size racks or larger desktop modules.
I was considering buying a Moog Mother or a MFB Dominion Club, but this looks more promising to me.
Moog Mother is still a killer synthesizer. It's got a good selection of patch points and a very nice sound. But this is a whole different thing.
If you're adding to an existing rig, a Mother is a great add.
If you're starting to build a rig, this SE synth is a great start.
this is big
YES
Fuck that sounds epic
That's a buy. :)
Is this just a preview? Looking forward to seeing the specs!
I wish it went down the 64' octave, but will prob grab this over the as-1, hope it can slide notes together.
Roland the best
awesome! how can I get SE-02 for a review?
Sounds great in the video but it does sound more Moog that a Roland don't get me wrong I love the Moog sound. Great lil unit got to get one. And mono has a lot of place in todays music.
That is a lot hype built into their own video. Also, not the first time they had others do their analog for them. i.e. Reon Driftbox, Malekko System 500.
So what?
it looks and sounds really cool, but would have been even better if they had the option of a roland sounding filter like on the sh-101 or juno
Can you please move forward with another analog synth with studio electronics but polyphonic with NO USB power plug and/or wall wart? Thank you!
"we are probable the longest running analog synthesizer compony in the world" you should probably figure out if this statement is true.
he's too busy making synthesizers.
ok, where do i pay to order this?? :)
Roland sent me here.
To all the haters on here: if you feel inclined to criticize, then take your happy asses to university, get an electronics engineering degree, and design your own damn analog synthesizers.
The first decent thing Roland has made in years and it's a Minimoog clone. What a world!
Uh...and it's mostly Studio Electronics, not even Roland.
even if SE could design, build, and ship a Moog in a tiny box, there is no way they could ship the 5,000 units that the market could absorb. they don't have the cash flow. And look at this marketing! 40,000 views on day one. Why it took Roland this long to come up with this little product is one of the great mysteries of the universe. It still has to sound good of course. But I can't imagine there are many consultants that you could count on to deliver what SE can. Seems like a match made in heaven.
+ProckGnosis How is it "mostly Studio Electronics, not even Roland" when Roland did the circuit board (arguably the most important part of any synth), the sequencer, and the Boutique style case, et al? Sigh.
Well, I meant "mostly contingent on SE", not necessarily that SE did most of the work, but it STILL looks lopsided. Were it evenly split 50-50, Roland is the BIG corporation with LOTS of resources, and supposedly LOTS of know-how, and they still ended up depending on the little boutique synth company to help make it happen. Awesome for SE, and given the economies of scale, this will come to market at a price SE couldn't do on their own, but it still makes me wonder why Roland doesn't have the creativity, resources, and know-how to pull it off by themselves. I'm not complaining, as this is a win-win for everybody...I'm more-or-less just scratching my head and wondering why it went that way.
ProckGnosis Who cares? What if it sounds good?! I'm going to check it out.
Roland🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝
Dammit, just after I transferred my money to Thomann for the Dominion 1, this video pops up in my recommendations. Well, I guess the SE-02 will be a nice unit in addition to the Dominion. Bye bye money.
want one.....
That sounds nice and looks nice depending on the price, the first Roland release in a few decades to pique my interest. I might have to shrink my man-hands to fairy-size to use it. The dilemma now is whether to get my SH3a fixed or buy one of these. ARG! (and what happened to Malekko? are they still making those modules? Why no patch points on this new box?)
would this work using a moog etherwave standard theremin? since there both analog?
about f^&king time! YaY!
If I was after a patch like the sound in the intro, where should I start?
Now Roland please make an analog poly pretty please. :)
I would have liked hearing fairly quick samples of maybe 50 of its hundreds of canned sounds to get an idea of its versatility. Instead I got a partnership sales pitch.
There are lots of videos of people going through the presets.
Roland should open up their own analog division again.
Finally got to try it in the store. Sounds awesome. Sequencer is fantastic. But waaaay too tiny. It wasn't any fun squinting over the synth. Make a normal sized SE-02 and I'll buy it. That's a promise :)
I don’t mind the size, but I definitely think there’s a market for a bigger version.
1:14 Track ID pretty please?
Yes, that shit was amazing!
Can you adjust the pitch bend range?
The paranoid in me keeps thinking that Roland are going to wait a few days until the comments like "this thing sounds awsome ...analog is just so much better!" And then a Roland scientist in a white lab coat is going to jump out from behind the bush and go "BOOO! haha fooled ya! it's got our AIRA ACB inside !! Now shut up and buy one of our digital products finally!".
Hahahaha that's srsly funny
Use every sound source that we can get our hands on and make music! I want one of everything, in my dreams...
Paranoid - right!!
Even then the snobs would never accept ACB. Their commitment to ignorance will never budge.
