The most frequently asked question about the new JD-08 and JX-08? Polyphony!
ℹ The JD-08 has a maximum polyphony of 128 voices. Please note, this can vary depending on patch load.
ℹ The JX-08 has a maximum polyphony of 20 voices.
ℹ Sequencer - Two-part, eight notes per part (polyphonic)
Dear Roland...Seriously...if this series (Boutique) were 19" RACK MOUNT I would Own ALL OF THEM...apart from my Roland originals I still own like D50, SH101 etc...Keyboardists like me DONT CARE if they would be 4RU high either. I can also guarantee you Pro Keyboardists DONT carry Desks/Tables to GIG'S...Strangely all the Synths in the Botique range were ORIGINALLY designed for Pro Keyboardists...yet these re-issues if you like seem to be designed for Bedroom type's to put on their Desks...Why?...I've also noticed a lot of talk recently about the LACK of RACK Mount Synths...Come On Roland...you can do it!!!! isnt your Moto..."We Design The Future"...Be the leader Roland used to be...Be the provider of high quality Pro Gear for Pro Keyboardists you used to be...instead of targeting the cheap Bedroom market on these synths as that market want the CHEAPEST THING AVAILABLE...I would pay for these synths in RACK Mount format!!!!!!!......Do It...just Do It (to quote Nike:-)
Sounds great but serious hum and noise problem with USB, and if you want to transpose a sequence, you can't do it from a Midi keyboard, you need to buy the Roland dock. 😡
Just Aname - 'pro keyboardists' are a tiny fraction of the market, what Roland are doing makes perfect business sense.
I don't miss rack mount gear, that was the past not the future. It's why rack mount pretty much doesn't exist now.
Roland, you KNOW everyone wants an updated Juno boutique with better polyphony, and an updated effects section wouldn’t hurt either!
Ah, but along with that is a convoluted nightmare menu.. 🎉
Roland, how about a bigger flat keyboard / holding unit with the ability to insert 3 boutique units that can be switched between? Having three classic synths in one portable gigable unit would be top.
Awesome idea!
I‘ve seen a DIY version of this
Great idea!! Might as well make it 4 units and more 🔑 🎹
Fantastic idea. I’d buy that. Right now though I wish the supply chain crisis wasn’t delaying Roland getting their 2021 products to market. You know there are huge cargo ships on the coast of California full of Roland gear waiting to unloaded. I’m thinking of taking up piracy. LOL
Maybe Roland could launch a complete line of midi controllers oriented to Boutique users including a smaller keyboard (about 60cm/23,62") with just 3 octaves & 37 keys to join the smaller K-25M for those who like more portability.
Dual sequencer is a cool idea for double Roland jammy fun times.
Fancy seeing you here! We need a video of you jamming with one of these too!
Loved the triggering demo - really fun and good explanation of why triggering the sequencer is more interesting than just midi sequenced (which is what I typically use myself). Sounds great too.
This was a very good and creative demonstration! Great job, David! And good job, Roland!
That is a great demonstration. This guy is great at showing the product.
Awesome demo & jam. Great to see a 2-part 64-step sequencer, that's the icing on the cake.
20 voice Polyphony!! Roland, you actually listened!!! Thank you!!! ❤️
We do, we really do. 🧡 Glad you like it
@@rolandglobal Very happy about the 20 voice polyphony, too. And all the other features like bi-timbrality, sequencer, effects and all 😍
@@patsonmusic What about the price? will be paying significantly more no doubt.
Boutique synths are pretty cool! This sounds excellent. Great direction Roland is taking.
Glad you like them!, We'll be sharing more sound demos on our IG channel soon.
Yeeeeesassss! 20 voices! SOLD!
Get hyped!
Ok, I’m finally caving. Such a nice synth for warm pads!
Wow! Thank you, shoutout to you for the feedback. Appreciate it! 🧡🧡🧡
The JX ALWAYS KILLED on/for Pad's!!!!!
Mind blowing product love the way it sounds. Great job Roland it’s super impressive baby. Nice demo ❤️
I'm excited for this JX-08 Boutique Synth!
Whoop whoop! What about it excites you the most?
@@rolandglobal the sounds within. I dream of buying up old gear, but it always makes my day if a recreation is made of a dream synth of mine.
Awesome! I have the JX-8p, JX-10, Jupiter-X (with the 8p), Roland Cloud, the free PG-8x and soon i'll buy a JX-08!!
The JX-8p is by far my favorite synth sound: analog, lush and warm. I use it in all my tracks!
Too bad it's not a full size synth (again), but great job Roland!
That's a proper collection you've got there! Glad you like the JX. 🧡
@@rolandglobal Oh, Roland is very much represented in my collection! 😅❤
i dig your music Mr Timecop!
Why??
If my man Timecop is hyped, how could I not be.
Was hoping for a tr07, but equally happy with this.
Such great news, wow! 😍
I bought my JX-8P with a PG800 new back in 88/89 and used it as my 1st and 2nd keyboard for 2-3 years (with a AJ2 which I flipped for a D50 a few years later). Such great memories although I did not understand how to program it back then. Makes me happy to see Roland bring an updated version of the JX with more power, polyphony and features. Behringer has done many synthists a favour by bringing out new versions of old keyboards, like the Model D and Poly D, and they are nice instruments with added extras - good to see that you at Roland are taking notes. My JX-03 and JP-08 are really nice modules, but I would have liked 8 note polyphony among other things!
Now my JX-8P has been lent out for 10 yrs to a friend, another 10 yrs to a studio and before that 5 yrs in storage. I really started missing it now when watching this demo. I think it is time for JX to come back home and very soon 😄
Such an honor to have been a part of your musical journey. Thank you for the review. We are happy that you like it. We´d say bring it back home where it belongs! 🧡
@@rolandglobal Thank you! I've had this feeling already since the spring and this new announcement just took my need to revisit JX-8P to a whole new level. :-D
I will seriously consider the JX-08, too.
And the journey continues until this day (although I've had a 10 year break in active playing before the lockdowns). My main instruments today FA-07 and the good old VK-7, but I have a few other nice Rolands, too.
Jx 08 the best synth in line roland boutique!!!
Of all the classic Rolands, the JX-8P is my favorite. I've owned and loved it for years. This sounds pretty dang close, close enough to satisfy, and with the arp, sequencer and other features, this is a sure thing!
Me too...if Roland made this in 19" RACK MOUNT I'd be lined up to buy one, even 4ru high...but until then I'll pass...I don't take Tables to gig's
Really great demo
Stunning. Just pre-ordered mine. Sounds very close to the JX-10.
Versatile piece of kit. Well done Roland.
Happy that you like it and thank you for the feedback! 🧡
Wow! It's always nice to wake up to news of new Boutiques. Anyone that has visited my UA-cam channel knows that I'm a big fan of the Boutiques (I feature almost all of them in my current setup). Now I need to make room for a few more! 😀
Excellent demo
Wow the jx8p is a long time favorite with lots of Achilles heels in terms of keeping an old one running. This is very cool and welcome.
Thank you ;) 🧡
Would it be possible to breakdown that pad patch in the intro? Sounds like the LFO is giving the cutoff a nice flutter effect but I’m trying to figure out what is all being done there.
this was the far most kakafonie i have heard since a long time with a demo , the possibilities are okay
Killer demo!! Thanks!!
Killer feedback we´d say! 🧡🧡🧡
50 years congratulations
my first synth (almost got a jx-10 but it fell through) still have it and going strong - the pg800 programmer is brilliant! Does the jx-08 have unison and the special mono unison mode that stacks all 12 oscillators?
These Botiques are getting better with each new iteration. Great job Roland!
Bi-timbral? 👍 2-part 64 step sequencer? 👍 Perfect for my “table-top studio” 🙂
Would be great to add the above features/interface to the JU-06a!
THATS A BEAUTY RIGHT THERE!!!!!
Really loving the melody sound from 7:04! Any idea which preset it is, or how to make it? Would buy this just for that sound, it's gorgeous! Thanks.
Is this using ACB like the older Boutiques and System 8 or is it the modelling used in the Jupiter X/Fantom?
The JX-08 is powered by ABM (Analog Behavior Modeling) sound engine.
Loving these new boutiques without the ribbons! Any chance of a Jupiter8 update like this? Either way the jd and jx boutiques are a hit!
I really like this finished Version of the JX8p. Good work. Since I owned both the Jx8p and JX10 previously, I am wondering if the JX 08 the POLY modes (Yello knobs on the original)that gave it that awesome fat sound?
it does look brilliant that. i was looking at a bass station 2 . just wondering which one will be a better match for my deepmind 12 and mpc one.
The kanji on the hoodie he wears have the meaning of continuing to work in the same place.
Can sequences be transposed by incoming MIDI notes for one-finger playing? That was a major omission from the JP-08 sequencer and it's a pain to have to use a sequence for every chord change and then manually switch between them.
The hoodie looks cool.
nice. can you please add new effects and sequencing options to the tb-03?
Sound excellent! The electric pianos and pads are my favourite sounds of the JX8P.
By the way... Will be in the future again on sale de D-05?
They are difficult to find and seems the prices have pump up a lot in the second hand market.
ok, now it's time for the RD-01, the boutique version of the RD-1000. love love love!!!
Would it be possible the jd08 to be paired it with the Jd990 like the original Jd800 and to control the parameters in the 990?
Thats really important feature.
Thank you Roland
Great video and David did a GREAT job with the demo!
I've been waiting for a JX Boutique and I'm going to give this a long look. It would be awesome if you dropped a follow-up video focused on the sounds so people like me could sonically compare them with the original. In our virtual world where there's no brick-and-mortar stores to check stuff out, I'd rather hear a Roland evangelist play as many sounds as possible then the youtubers who don't really have a good handle of the instrument banging through them. And definintely add the "20 note polyphony" aspect to future demos, easily one of the most important aspects of the unit!
I totally get the sequence aspect being big with a group of your potential market, but I'm in for the sounds only and there wasn't enough here for me to call Sweetwater and pre-order... just yet :-)
And yes, y'all are LONG overdue to offer a 49/61 note controller with full-sized keys for live gigging that could secure two or three boutiques.
This sounds incredible. I'm so tempted by these 2 new boutique releases in particular - but I would be instantly sold if Roland brought out a full size 49/61 key equivalent to the KM-25M. Maybe with the option to slot 2 boutique modules into?! Is anything like this on the way....?
The best way to stay updated about newcomers to the Roland family and other product news is to stalk us down on our social channels. 🧡🧡🧡
@@rolandglobal very allusive!!! But thanks for the response :-)
@@rolandglobal Please make a durable 5 octave synth action keyboard with enclosure to fit 3 or 4 Boutiques this would draw in massive appeal and for live work phenomenal!
Out of all the Boutiques, this is the first that's really appealed to me. Something about the sounds here that remind me a lot of music I was listening to back in the 80s. How soon will it be available?
same!
USB-C connection for boutique! This is good. Also is this model support class complient audio interface?
Hello. i have read the manual of the jx-8 and couldnt find any references to a modulation matrix in the roland jx-08. is there a way to assign mod wheel (cc1) to filter cut off and set min and max ranges?
A gorgeous, multi-timbral *Boutique* with 2-part sequencing AND parameter automation??!
Between this and the upcoming 404, Roland now has my FULL attention! 👀💯
A lot of newcomers to the Roland family. Santa came early this year! 🧡
This is a great addition!!!!!!.....Plz make a new Mks-20 as a boutique module the gospel community would love it
DEFINATELY 100%....Rack Mount re-issue...I've lost count of the amount of people asking/wanting to Buy my MKS...I actually have a Black Cloth over it to hide it on stage as I used to have people coming up to me asking to buy it...even with that...sometimes people recognise the sound and ask if I've got one somewhere...I'm not kidding!!!
Exactly what I wanted a year ago…should have waited as usual :)
Any chance you release an editor VST to automate sound changes through Ableton?
Cool! Is the Jx-08 compatible with the SYX of the original machine?
As an owner of 2 Super JX synths and the PG-800 I want to tell you, this synth is a GIANT of 80's pads. I love the smoothness of the DCO's and this emulation sounds pretty darn close. Does this accept SYSEX for patches???
My absolute favorite for pads!
Will there ever come a JP-8000/JP-8080? Why is this not done yet? Everybody wants it!!
sounds great
Thanks for the demo. Are you able to use an external sequencer to play two different patches?
Do JX-08 and JD-08 support USB link in Roland MX-1? Other boutiques did but it's not clear if these two do. Thanks!
Very nice Boutique and I will buy this one for sure. I was hoping for a Roland Boutique SH-02 (SH-2), but with the new lay out and menu options I see a opportunity here.
Glad you like it!
Just release the Boutique version of the JP-8000 already, please!!
Can you assign a different midi channel for the two bi-timbral parts?
Just purchased mine yesterday with the K25M, I'm gonna learn it and see what the hype is about.
Since there is a higher polyphony, is there a patch layering function?
multi timbral. yes.
This is fantastic, 2 parts polyphonic sequencer, 64 steps each part! Can you chain patterns, even on the fly? Please Roland tell me that you can....
I certainly hope we see a JX-03a with this expanded sequencer, dual timbres, the huge polyphony and effects.
This is a great tool - David always does a great job with these demos as does Peter.
Awesome work Roland team.
They are amazing! Big shout out to you as well for the love! 🧡🧡🧡
Yes Please 😃
Can we use the effects of the JX-08 on other synths via the "mix in" jack?
After you program your own patch, how do you save/write it please? Anyone thanks !!
Any chord mode / chord memory on this beast?
Does this fix the 15ms midi lag from the first wave of boutiques?
A new JX-8P in a compact format of a PG-800 Programmer. That's great!
Great that you like it, always happy to receive such feedback! 🧡
Hi Roland. Does the LFO have bpm sync or one shot/retrig modes?
Dual layers an polyphony. Sounds super! Surer like Super JX-10!
Wow! Knowing the community likes it is all the thanks we need here at Roland. Thanks Ilkka! 🧡
I wonder if the envelopes are faster than the original - or if Roland, in typical Roland fashion, has kept them period correct to ensure sales of other boutiques.
This looks super cool! Intrigued to know, are the 2 step sequences independent or linked? Eg: could you set one step sequence to be a length of 7 randomised, and another to length 8 randomised too and they're act independently?
Yes, the two sequences can have different lengths, Playback Modes, Scaling, etc. They are both synced or triggered via the External Clock input, but other than that they are quite individual.
@@DavidAhlund Amazing to hear! Thanks for the quick and detailed response :) Sounds like one awesome synth!
Yes sir keep it Funking . Love it .
Funk is all you need! 🧡
Super Sound, den werd ich mir inkl. Klaviatur mal zulegen. Mit meinem TR-08 bin ich ja schon super zufrieden. Der JX wird gut dazu passen.
These are neat! Please make a JP-8080 Boutique but also please give it 12 or more poly.
Hey, does this keyboard have cross modulation and Kenneth get the same drum sound does a Jupiter-8?
trigger jam with explanation was a nice feature
🧡
Awesome! Great addition to my existing line-up: TB-03, SH-01A, TR-06, TR-8, System-1. Double sequencer very interesting 👍👍👍 Roland is doing right things.
Always happy to serve and doing things the right way! 🧡🧡🧡
do you synch up the TR-o6 with TR-8 and use simultaneously?
Yes, I do. However, I use MX-1 as a master to sync all others mostly via Midi. MX-1 have better connections/sync options for Boutique and Aira series. But TR-8 and TR-06 works perfectly well together via Midi cable.
@@HT-ue6qb Thanks for reply. Can the MX-1 be used as an interface for my DAW as I am out of the 8 ports on my Focusrite 8 pre and was wondering if the mixer would substitute for another 8 port converter as I want each piece of hardware to have their own dedicated tracks on Ableton? Very confused at moment. Thanks
MX-1 works as USB audi interface with separate tracks (effect sections are not included into recordings). Or you can choose to record all channels together with effects, and mute unecessary parts out. All Aira range and Boutiques function as USB interfaces. So a lots of options with new Roland gear.
Hi. I just bought this, is there an option to mute/unmute the individual steps?
Are there midi out for the controller? So I could use it as a pg-800 for my real jx-8p 😉.
And are the sounds compatible with the real jx-8p? It would be great
They've said it won't work as a PG-800 sadly
Does sustain pedal work on JX-08 if I have sustain pedal connected to my MIDI keyboard?
What is the "mix in" port for? Can I plug a guitar into it?
How do I select a preset and sequence part A and then do the same for part B? I cannot do this as it wants to enter menu mode and do something different.
I got two JX8Ps and even often prefer them over my JX3P for a lot of applications
There is a synth for each taste! 🧡
i'm really curious if it was so easy to up the Polyphony on this why the previous ones were so limited? Esp. the Juno one which is basically the same thing but simpler.
This is ABM not ACB
I have had 3 x JX10s and a JX8P.... the JX8P was the third synth that I bought in 1987 after a Juno 60 and CZ5000. Only half way through the video at this point. I do hear a lot of the same character but at the same time I hear something that is quite different to what I recall.... dare I say it sounds a bit tighter (JXs had a slow attack) and capable of a broader range of sounds...
Is filter VCF or DCF?
Thank God I can breathe again !
Is there a Unison detune like you find on the original?
Great Roland! You are hearing us it seems! and with 20 voice polyphony, it's an instant buy.
Your consistency in releasing new boutique stuff gives us the confidence we won't be left unsupported in the coming years.
I'd take 4 voices of ACB any day over 20 voices of ABM
Can these be used in a modular sense with a MIDI controller as a mother keyboard? I love the sound design capabilities but would prefer a larger keybed
all the boutiques have MIDI in, so of course
Does it have a pitch bend joystick like the Roland JX-8P?
Does it recreate the filter performance of the original?
I want one now. Like, now.
Can we use it without the k25m, as a desktop machine?
Like jd and se-02 and the drummachine and specifically the tr-08 is the boutique what we wanted. But still happy with mine e-80 and 2 srx, se-02 and mx-1
