My First Time Flying A Jet - Boeing 737 Base Training

- Опубліковано 28 чер 2024
- Recently I passed my Boeing 737 type rating skill test and today is a very special day. I'll be flying the Base training at Shannon (EINN/SNN) airport in Ireland - my first time at the controls of the real aircraft. The plan is to perform 5 touch and goes, one go around and a full stop landing under the supervision of an experienced captain and safety pilot. It's quite a surreal feeling sitting in the right seat rolling onto the runway for the first time - but I was mainly really excited to finally be able to fullfill my dream. Many hours of studying and lots of simulator sessions have all led to this moment. After a short wait we received our take off clearance - and "I have control".
The 737 handles beautifully, I really enjoyed my time at the controls - it's a very rewarding aircraft to fly. But that's it for now, next up is flying with passengers during line training, see you on board!
Thanks for watching, and if you have any feedback or questions, just let me know!

Well that destroys the myth that Ryanair pilots do hard landings. 5 excellent touchdowns. Congratulations.
Haha, thank you very much!
I totally agree. And even in somewhat rainy and gray conditions too
and now, he needs to do hard landings in order to pass with ryanair. lmao
It takes great skill and ability to handle a multi- million pound machine like the Boeing.
They definitely do, though! 😂
Great to see new pilots get immediately 5 landings and take offs. Practice is everything.
It definitely is!
I am a retired airline pilot. I remember my first takeoff and landing in a DC9 over 40 years ago like it was yesterday. Enjoy your career , I loved every day.
Hi Jonathan. Peter here if this is the footage I shot then I was so happy to be of help to you.
Hi, it sure is - thanks again for the help!
Thnks for the amazing footage peter
They say no two landings are the same but you’re showing great consistency there, especially on your first outing. An experience you’ll never forget throughout your flying career! You greased that full-stop landing in particular. Even the most experienced pilot would be proud of that one. Well done!
Cheers, thank you!
Well done Pilot Jonathan 🎉
Well done! Congratulations!🎉
Don't forget that all the landings were at the same airport in a very short space of time so the conditions would probably have been close to identical each time. Still very well executed.
Congratulations Jonathan - I'm a train driver and I'll never forget the first time I drove on the mainline for the first time. All that hard work in the classroom becomes so worth it and the novelty never wears off.
Congratulations and don’t forget to keep the legacy of hard landings going!
Bravo !! Well done. I remember my Dad driving me to the airport, as I was too young to drive in 1972 for flying lessons. 8 British pounds an hour back then to fly a C150 with Instructor. !!....simply wonderful ! I am so glad for you.
I’m a 17 year old in flight training in New Zealand. I’m also a flight instructor so i can bring my hours up and get into airlines easier. My dream is to fly Qantas future A350-1000s. It’s so cool to see you finally in a jet after all of your flight training, tests and exams well done you earned it❤👍I’ve watched your channel for 2 years now ❤
Oh man my dream is the singapore airlines a 350
But im in Australia currently.
Those landings were top notch, I can’t believe this was your first time flying a full size aircraft, I know you were in the simulator but wow!
all aircraft are full size. even a drone :p
@@DJChipsandGarlic you you know damn well what I meant, have a great day.
Congratulations sir! I am inspired by people who follow their dream like you. Thank you for including me on your journey.
Thank you for watching!
My goodness those landings were very good for first time? Impressive...The EJ guy on the TV show couldnt get it so quick. Amazing.
Haha thank you!
It’s always a fantastic feeling when all your hard work has paid off. You will be a great first officer and future captain
Congrats! I had my base training on the A320 in January, it’s something no pilot will ever forget
Great job, greased them in, splash two. Not even any smoke from mains when touching down. Flew it like you own it.
Feeling proud for someone I've never met is such a profound feeling. Good job mate.
Congrats, i remember my first flight back in the 90s ... on the 737-200 ... amazing feeling. -Your next goal, the left seat!👌👌👌
Great time for aspiring pilots! Ryanair, Aer Lingus, and British Airways have all recently been recruiting cadets😊
Congrats!
Very nice of you to share your journey from flight school all the way to this point. Need more people like you!
Really greased those landings.
Thank you very much!
This is extremely cool to see someone so young being able to handle a whole B737 like it's an every day drive! It really give's me that extra boost of motivation to carry on with my studies and get perfect grade's at school to therefore move on into flight school. Keep doing what your doing because it's great!
Very well done on the landings! It's been great to follow the story from the beginning when you were still doing ground school and now you're managing to land a "big" commercial jet. Congrats!
Fantastic. So happy for you to have come this far! Well done. And so cool to have had all your handy work captured on video for future posterity.
I'm currently doing my ATPL's, watching this gives me so much motivation to be in your position in a couple of years. Good job man, you're living my dream
Good luck for your exams!
Congratulations 🎊 👏 Enjoyed watching the touch and goes. You could see the landings getting smoother after each one.
I vividly recall my son doing these at EMA in 2014. He loved it, got his command in 2017/18 and is still with the company. Ryanair is one of the best to work for because they are incredibly financially stable.
@askiff1415 They’re financially stable because they fleece their passengers.
@@jonhall9000 that’s hilarious. Their low cost ticket prices can hardly be seen as ‘fleecing’ unless your so financially tight you walk everywhere. They led the way in Europe for ULCC’s
@@askiff1415 Just an opinion, that’s all.
@@jonhall9000 consider their financially stability, consider their financial growth metrics and finally and perhaps more telling is consider their passenger growth numbers and seat occupancy per flight. They carry more passenger per year than almost any airline in the world and certainly in Europe. The numbers are world class and way ahead of any other airline.
Some may think these are impossible to achieve if as you believe they fleece their customers. A Company in a free market economy that consistently fleece as you describe don’t exist in business for very long.
@@askiff1415 My comment was purely based on my own experiences with RyanAir. Sure, they cater for the ‘cheap holiday’ brigade, but fall well short for business travel. I have, and always will happily pay double to use another carrier.
Smoothest Ryanair landing I've ever seen.
Congratulations! Jonathan, I’m very happy for you 😁
What everyone else said...great landings and smooth takeoffs too. You are a natural. .
Great at of all your landings. Your number 4&5 landings were spot on. Many times flying into Shannon. Probably the most hospitable and professional ground handlers ever even during winter storms.
An absolutely beautiful moment for you, can't believe how surreal it must have felt - keep it up, amazing work!
It's amazing that you got to capture this moment on film to look back on throughout your career.
Wow, you were amazing! Thank you so much for bringing us with you on this epic step in your career! Wish you all the best! ❤
Shannon is my local airport i watch the patterns all the time thanks for the insight!
Congratulations, I remember when my son was doing his base training back in 2014 in a A320 at Doncaster. All the very best with your career. Great landings
Congratulations! Jonathan, I’m very happy for you . Good Job
sat glued to this! Grand job and some beautiful touchdowns. Great Great Video! All the best in your aviation career.
Major milestone passed ! Congrats !!
Nicely done! Wishing you many happy landings.
Great stuff. As someone who only ever flew single
Piston engine A/C, your landings seemed quite impressive. Your ground school & sim sessions obviously paid off. Not sure if it was someone with the airline or a friend/family member that stood outside in the weather to film this, but it’s so cool you have the footage. Kudos to them, as well. Safe flying!
Congratulations Jonathan! Safe flights! ✈️🙌🏾
Well done and nice accurate landings too, it's a big step in any pilot's career. I recall going from the Beechcraft Baron to the Boeing 707 in 1971 before we had the quality simulators which we have today - good game! We did a lot more on the aircraft base training including dutch roll recovery and mach tuck.
Congrat! Nice Landing and takeoffs wish you a nice time on the B737
Good, good landings. Very smooth ones. Congratulations and good luck in your airlines career.
Exciting days! Good luck and a lot of fun on your new job
Congratulations Pilot Jonathan! Wishing you a long flying career. Be safe🙏🏻🇺🇸
Congratulations! I think your future passengers will be in good hands. 🥂
Thank you!
That was very impressive, hope you enjoy your future career!
Great video. Limited commentary. No thumpy thump music and super landings! Well done!
Hey Jonathan, subscribed, look forward to checking out your previous and future content. I'm 49, from south Scotland, finished engineering college in 1995 and started working 4 on 4 off shifts in a major Semiconductor company with a good salary, wasted my money on motorbikes, cars, holidays etc and really regret not putting it into flying lessons etc. I done some gliding at Scotlandwell too. No idea why I did not chase my dream, the internet wasn't really a thing back then so there was really no advice on anything, shouldn't complain, my engineering career is going very well, but I'm happy you are chasing your dream, regrets are not good for the mind, I am totally jealous!!! 1000's of hours on PMFG and IXEG 737 is good fun, but I always wish I could rewind time. Good luck!
Bro i am excited just hearing about your first takeoff in that 737. Congratulations & it must of been exhillerating, surreal, and oddly-routine from all the training at the same time
Well done Sir!!! You have done your family proud 😄 Good luck with the rest of your training... with such a good start you'll come through in grand style!! 👍🏼
Dritter Streifen incoming :D Klasse Landungen Jonfel. Gratulation und viele schöne Stunden auf dem Muster.
Vielen Dank!
It has been fun watching your progress
You’re too good for Ryanair, those wheels kissed the ground every time! Bravo! 👏🏼
Con ❤️ratulations!!! I loved your landings and takeoffs!
Deffo distroys the legendary myth of Ryanair touchdowns well done with them 5 butter landings mate congratulations 😊
Absolutely fantastic, nice circuits and landings Jonathan. Great video capturing too 👏
I hope they inspected that runway after each of your landings because I’m absolutely sure you left butter all over those 1000ft markers
Congratulations and well done. Wishing you many safe and enjoyable flying hours.
Well done sir and congratulations on following your dreams.
Congratulations Jonathan, I wish you many, many happppy landings 👍
Thank you very much!
Well done Jonathan...great future ahead of you.
Bravo!!!!! if I had not known better I would have thought you were a seasoned pilot, congrats job well done
What an amazing video I watched it at least twice and I feel Hella motivated now to chase my dreams on becoming an ATP, I just started PPL training, hopefully when time comes i'll be there!
Whow, new sub from The Netherlands. I really enjoyed your video. Thanks for taking us along!
Congratulations Jonathan, all the best to you in your new career
You'll never be a Ryanair pilot, far too smooth!
In all seriousness, you did incredibly well for your first time in a real aircraft. Well done
You've done well mate, congratulations !
Wonderful video, wonderful pilot, thanks for sharing, may you have a super career and 100s of flights. Dedication and hard as you say you must be very proud I tip my hat Sir, happy landings, take care.
5 cracking landings, absolutely superb. I bet you felt 10 feet tall! Well done.
Congratulations young man, you’re on your way to a great career
Congratulations on your first flight. You did fantastic.
It's amazing to see more and more pilots!!
My god, that was very damn good! Very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very nice landing! Good luck to you. Happy flying!!
very nicely done...you have your wings...not nervous , were you..don't know you, but am very proud of you...enjoy your wonderful career and much love to you.
well done Sir! Your family are surely very proud of your achievement. Good luck for the future 👍🏼
We are!
I hate this stupid myth that some Airlines have better pilots than others. The training is the same for every airline and pilot. These guys are trained to an extremely high level and are very professional people. As far as I am concerned they deserve every penny they get and in a lot of cases deserve a lot more. Great video 👍
No, training is not the same, there different trainings and programs, nor hiring minimums. Ryanair, you get hired with 250 hours of small prop, that’s it, southwest you need at least 1500 hours of which 500 in a fixed wing turbine aircraft but realistically you are competitive only around 3000 hours total time and 1000 hours turbine. No airlines are not all the same
@@SC-dp1gv each type rating requires a minimum standard to be reached in both hours and proficiency. That’s the point I was making
@@BrianMcCann421 the point that I'm making is that for example aqp training is completely different from a standard initial, so yes we need to show proficiency, how many options we have to reach proficiency and how that proficiency could be reached is completely different. If you have two shots to do a maneuver correctly or if you have almost indefinite attempts to make it makes a huge difference, there are easier trainings than others, and I don't wanna open the can of worms of the so called "just checking boxes trainings"...oh dei hirings and all that shxxt
Obviously some airlines have better pilots than others. Guy i know was the last RAF slingshot takeoff and had completed thousand of hours before even considering commercial, tbh hes actually put me off flying with some of the green pilot stories he has told me
It's not a myth.
Congratulation Jonathan, what an accomplishment to see you there in a 737. All the best
Well done young man great landings and take offs
Congratulations. My son flies 737s, so I know how it feels to be a proud Dad, it feels good.
Congratulations man , you're a lucky guy!, beautiful touchdowns man.
Well done Jonathan you have made a great start , a long hard journey to get there but there's no other job like it.
Congratulations and best of luck going forward. Wishing you happy takeoffs and landings
Thank you very much!
Well done young man, you are and you should be proud of yourself. I wish you the very best. 👍
Congratulations 👏... You will be an awesome pilot...Love from Kenya 🇰🇪
A few of those being right on the touchdown zone big markers. Great job and congrats.
Best of luck and safe flying to you 👍👍 whatever about the time fly safe . Shannon has a long runway ideal for touch and go.
I still can clearly remember every minute of my FIRST solo. It's something which can only happen once in a lifetime of course so it's nice to remember it. (Mine was a Cessna 150!) When I was 7 I watched planes take off from Heathrow's Spectator Roof and said, 'One day, I want to do that!' I suppose I partly achieved my childhood dream. Hope to see;hear you onboard one day!
Congratulations on achieving your dream. Nice landings too !
Incredible, amazing to see this great work ! 🤩
Very motivating. I’m currently a little over 40hrs in c172s.
Can’t wait to get there.
Well done - super landings to watch.
5 Lovely landings Johnathan. Congratulations
Wow amazing video. Just saw a bit more then 7 minutes but i will call this video an inspiration for me.
I will start to prepare my application for pilot assessment soon. Your video is motivating me even more.
Best of luck on the Line Training and greetings from BER! Keep it goin :)
Wow Jonathan, congratulations and well done. We always fly ryanair. Looks like you will do a great job. Good luck 🍀😊
Well done dude! Looking forward to following your career.
Well done Fella, It must have been a lot of pressure on you having an experienced 737 captain and a safety pilot watching your every move! And your full stop landing was super greased! Congrats, Subbed and liked and look forward to more of your 737 adventures 👌
Congratulations! I’m a cabin crew in the same airline but I will soon start the flight school and I’m already looking forward to live this moment. You gave me a lot of motivation, I know it will be hard but I will make it. I hope you will enjoy every minute you will spend in this beautiful aircraft… welcome aboard!
Thank you and all the best for your training!
I don't know how common it is for cabin crew to go on to pilot training but it's probably useful for cabin crew to work with a pilot who understands and appreciates the work they do.
Congratulations! This is fantastic!!
Congratulations !!! Well done 👍
