Thank you! That is particularly true in a taildragger aircraft. To you and your family I wish a Merry Christmas and all the best in 2024. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido
Hi Bruce, the crosswind component for the landing runway was only 16 knots in the maximum gusts. Furthermore, the "demonstrated" crosswind component is not a limitation, it is 20kts for the caravan if I remember correctly. Crosswind landings are all a matter of aircraft directional control. If the wind exceeds the capability of the aircraft, even with full controls - then you have to go to another airport or use a different runway. . As a rule of thumb, I would not go above a crosswind that exceeds 50% of the aircrafts stall speed. So for the Caravan at around 30 knots direct crosswind component you will loose directional control. Also the contamination of the runway is a factor. On a runway with ice patches you may slide off the runway after landing. You saw the challenges while taxing with 40 knots crosswind on the taxiway. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

Wonderful to see another video from you again Captain - that was an awesome landing! The strength of the wind was very evident with the frequent swift control changes done so expertly - and that you kept the controls full right as you were turning left during taxing! Loved all those extra details you added to the video - from the enlarging of the headings display or thrust, to the chart so that the viewer can better understand the complicated and yet so exciting job that is being a pro pilot (especially when going blind through the whiteout of cloud cover, with only gauges to assist). Well done Guido from KDXR!
Thank you.
On this ferry flight with the caravan I actually did a fuel stop at my old home base KDXR.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
Always a joy to see a new post from you. May your landings and your holidays be happy and safe!
Thank you Jason.

Das war ja eine ziemlich luftige Angelegenheit, vor allem bei und auch noch nach der Landung. ^^ Grüessli aus der Schweiz. :)

So good to see you back . Reminded me of the time, years ago... had a 40 knot wind straight down the runway and me flying a 60 knot approach in my Cessna 150. Thanks again for your vids. 🙂
In a C150 this must have been much more challenging than this landing.
You fly backwards.
Thanks for watching my video.
To you and your family I wish a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2024.

Show off! 🙂 Great job, also demonstrates that the flight isn't complete until the aircraft is parked and secured.
Thank you!
That is particularly true in a taildragger aircraft.
To you and your family I wish a Merry Christmas and all the best in 2024.
Happy Landings,

Absolutely fantastic control in tough conditions. Well done and thank you for sharing. Love the tips you give throughout the flight. 👍🏻
Thank you very much Shane.

Landing despite triple the allowable crosswind component? Nice!
Hi Bruce,
the crosswind component for the landing runway was only 16 knots in the maximum gusts.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
Welcome back Guido! Always enjoy watching your videos, thank you for creating some of the best professional aviation content on UA-cam. Nice landing in those conditions.

I enjoyed that. All those knobs and switches, and the language so quick and important! Phew! How do they ever manage it all. They do though ha ha! They’re all far brighter than me, that;s why!
Flying is much easier than it looks like...
Give it a try!
To you and your family I wish a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2024.

Thank you for sharing this experience - and may You and the whole Family have a wonderful Christmas Season!
Thank you very much for your kind words.
I am glad you enjoyed the video.

I could never be a pilot, first of all , I'm too dumb, 2nd, I cannot understand what the heck they are saying, they speak way too fast.
Once you get used it’s easy. You can basically expect what atc would say.
Caravans and Kodiaks are such neat planes.
Hi Chris,
I have never flown the Kodiak but hear only good things about it.

The leftovers of North American storms, I guess, do really pack a wallop passing Iceland. Someone passing the Caravan might think a practical joke was being played by the placement of the "K-rails" after the winds diminished. ATC was ( IS ) quite accomodating. Merry Christmas to you and yours, sir!
Iceland has rough weather but very nice people.
I always enjoy my layovers at Keflavik.

Good job ! very nice hand flying , Captain ! Not everyday that the TWR Congratulates a landing !
Thank you Gustavo.
I think the TWR was just happy to get me off the runway ans I was so much slower than the jet traffic behind me. You hear on the radio that he gives the other traffic speed restrictions because of me.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
Please subscribe to my channel - your support is much appreciated!
Great job.. that crosswind landing and taxi was brutal.
Thank you John.
The crosswind component on landing was relatively docile, only during taxi the wind hot quite hard from the right.
Best wishes for 2024 for you and your family!
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
Sadly, i lost my wife to cancer nov 25, but thank you for your kind words. I was flying a Cessna 172 in heavy crosswinds at one point. The landing wasn't too bad, but i got tossed around pretty good on the taxiway. Glad im not the only one.@@GuidoWarnecke

Thank you!
I always say that a flight (or al landing) can never be "perfect". We can strive for perfection but never reach it in flight. That makes aviation so interesting: it is a never ending learning process.

@@GuidoWarnecke Thanks. Merry Christmas to you as well. I enjoy flying but there's no way I could afford that for fun throughout the rest of my life. Haha. So the cheapest way to fly is to do it for a job. It's mostly for a career but the training makes one a better pilot anyway.
Great job!
Thank you!
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
Amazing landing! I can only imagine how challenging it was given those high gusty winds.
Thank you.
The taxing to the ramp with the wind now coming directly from the side was cheapening.
Landing was ok.

Right at 3500 pic in feeder freight 208’s. We only saw pictures of those tubes in magazines.
I apologize - I do not understand this comment.
Please explain - thank you.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
@@GuidoWarnecke we refer to modern displays as “tubes”. You have a 3 tube instrument display. I’m assuming that the term came from old tv’s that had tubes in them. I was flying 208’s back when we had “steam gauges”. Do you know what the “barber poll” is?
It clicked n ow... thank you!
Yes, big advancement in avionics. I have flown a lot of steam gauge airplanes too.
Is flying safer now with moving maps and all bells and whistles? It all depends on the pilot.
if you have down feeder 208's at night, I guess you have see it all.
