      in an endgame it's not really dangerous at all (especially up a piece), only in positions with queens still on is it really dangerous to have the king out there.

    Earlier this morning I had a game where I blundered my queen, my opponent returned the favour by not capturing the queen and getting checkmated soon after. Bless him.

    When you are being attacked u actually have 5 options not 2. Take/trade, retreat, counter attack/trade a different piece, pin attacking piece, sac for position (Alpha zero style)

    Hi Eric , i watched this video again today i think at 2:47 if white plays c4 then knight is in trouble beacuse it is pinned. If Qxb4+ then Ke3 and if u capture rook then QXD5+ followed by Qb5 # checkmate for black . Please analyis and let me know if i m missing something whenever u get time ☺

    I dont know all that much about chess, but if I'm not mistaken couldnt your opponent take the dark square bishop on d3 after playing queen e2, because I'd rook to e8, you can play bishop at? You, as black, would win the piece back, but not blunder a queen?

      After rook takes bishop, the queen is pinned either way. You just procrastinate your problem^^

    Um, 1:25, when the King develops why not Bxb3? I mean sure, Eric tells us the threat is ... Re8, pinning the Queen. But after Be5 breaking the pin, I don't see the big deal.

      If bishop takes the bishop the knight is going to recapture and the knight cant be taken because the queen would get pinnned and if the knight doesnt get captured hes up a piece

      @@Max-bq9qd I don't recapture the knight right away. I insert Qg4+. And yeah, the Queen is under attack by discovery but I simply move her, perhaps checking again staying on that white diagonal. When I get hit with that ...Re8+, I just block it with my knight or bishop. Either will be attacked and defended twice (actually 3x, counting the King). The Black Knight will still be hanging.

    The King has to be active. All books say an active King is key to winning.

      Only works if you're a really good player and don't have many weaknesses. As an amateur you better get your king to a safe position.

      Clearly you’re the amateur here. Books say king activation is necessary in the endgame, but why wait until the end to show your ultimate strategy? King activation immediately is the best strategy; analyze in with an engine or something.

      @@anonymoussecret5948 King Activation is better in the endgame specifically because he is stronger than pawns, but is weaker than bishops,knights,rooks and queens. There is few of those in the end game.
      Activating your king early game, without any actual theory like this counter gambit, is a great way to get mated by a tactic. You don't need to analyse this in an engine, its just common sense.

      @@TexasRedOutlaw Chess is about utilizing all of your pieces to their fullest potential. How can play good chess if you deliberately hinder the activation of one of your pieces? King activation is often overlooked by newer players, who are told to castle within the first 10 moves, but as Eric has demonstrated, king activation can be the key to success. A white king on the 3rd rank is better than an inactive one.

    Falkbeer is my normal response to the kings gambit and my absolute favorite opening to play. I take on f4 and open it up though and usually get lines like 3.exd5 exf4 4.c4 c6 5.dxc6 Nxc6 6.d4 Bb4+ which leads to very exciting games.

    White could take the bishop and after Re1, Be5 breaks the Pin, since it is protected by the Pawn.
