Is Paul Morphy the true greatest king's gambit player. In a previous video, I claimed Adolf Anderssen was the greatest King's Gambit player. After doing some digging, it's become clear that Morphy was even better. His strategic acumen and tactical prowess were no match for his competitors!

Game 3: Paul Morphy vs Bornemann, Paris 1858 .(This game is part of one of 8 simultaneous blind games ).During the second break of the match against Harrwitz, Morphy had his friend Edge organize a feat never seen up to then in Paris and that is a blind simultaneous against 8 strong players of the Café de la Régence. The blind challenge began at 12.30 and ended at 22.30 on Monday 27 September 1858. During the 10 long hours of the simultaneous blind match Morphy played expertly winning 6 games, drawing 2 and not losing any. At the end of the performance it took Morphy about half an hour to leave the club: everyone wanted to congratulate him and shake his hand. The following morning of the blind simulcast Morphy dictated the games he had played to his friend Edge Milnes with many variations. He remembered perfectly the progress of all the matches.

Paul Morphy was the strongest ever of his era and on the king gambit he was stronger than Anderssen. The match against Anderssen ended in favor of Morphy 7 to 2, with 2 draws. the day after the end of the official match, 29 Dec 1858 Morphy and Anderssen played a quick friendly match of 6 games, played in just three hours (defined as the King's Gambit Match) in fact Morphy and Anderssen agreed to play the whole match only King's Gambetti.Morphy won 5 - Anderssen won 1. Anderssen later remarked, "Morphy is too strong for any living player to hope to win more than one game here and there."

    • @eliezerferrieri
      @eliezerferrieri 11 місяців тому

@@SammyChess1 Yes, the King's Gambit match between Morphy and Anderssen is very interesting and demonstrates the different style of play. Perhaps the real difference is that Morphy was in a romantic era the first true positional player in history. All the more Anderssen's clever traps had no effect against Morphy's play. Even though Morphy admired Anderssen's style of play.

While you do need to comment the games, I wouldn't be so sure to claim that an attack is somehow "wrong" or that the defender could easily defend with this or that move. Says who? An engine? Or even that he "didn't see it". He did. Problem is, he also could see things your engine can't, nor a modern boring player. So really, there is no point any of us trying to evaluate their play, we cannot be them, it's a different era, for better, or for worse in the case of chess. If anyone is learning something through their games, fine, comment and exchange ideas, if you gonna evaluate them, better stay silent. Although I understand, you have a youtube channel to run.

Your analysis is way off base from reality. Here’s stockfish analysis on some of the most egregious moves by both players. And by the way, you can’t call Morphy the greatest Kings gambit player based on this terrible game by him.
    ------------------
    Stockfish 16.0 analysis
    at depth=25,
and delta rating dR = R(i+1)-R(i)
    ----
    where
    i is move number
    [- dR] means black ad
    [+ dR] means white ad
    (i. Ww) White move
    (i. …Bb) Black move
    ---------------
    1:25 : [+1] (8. …Bh4)
    1:36 : [-2.6] (9. O-O)
    1:46 : [+1] (9. …pxp)

    2:13 : [-5.6] (11. Ne5)
    2:39 : [+5.1] (11. …Nh6)

    2:52 : [-2.6] (13. Qh5)

    3:35 : [+12.3] (17. …Bd7)
    3:47 : [-2.5] (18. RxB)
    3:54 : [+2.4] (18. …Kc7)
4:32 : It’s mate in 4 that any high school chess player can easily find.
Your analysis is blinded by your apparent love of Morphy, but as the Stockfish analysis shows, almost the entire opening moves are a series of miscalculations by both players, of which to fail to tell your subscribers and viewers.
You seriously need to tie your analysis with the stockfish engine analysis, otherwise you will continue to give out bad analysis like in this case.
The best iPhone chess app is Smallfish which runs the latest Stockfish engine. It’s free. Get it. Analyze the games using it. Then make your videos. That way you can be sure of giving your viewers good analysis.
