Thanks for following along with the GFC journey. No real big story behind it….just wanted a little more interior space to shelter from weather and warmer, that’s all.
What I’d really love to know is how you scored a campsite at Pfeiffer! And what an exceptionally beautiful spot by the river. And you guys got to experience Nepenthe…so cool. I hope it wasn’t too foggy and you got amazing views!!
Haha, luckily my wife has pretty much mastered snagging spots and/or cancelations with the states reservation website. Weather was perfect for Nepenthe!
Congratulations on the Project M! Beautiful campers incredible made. Not to mention been in the game longer then most. Excited to see where the new camper journey takes you both. 😊 Thank You for Sharing! Mark (& Teresa) Hampstead Maryland Ford Ranger - GFC Camper V2 #1919
How about an update on the sleeping platform? I am 5'11" and the wife is only 5'.... hoping we can sleep the same way without pulling out the extension?? Thanks!
We ended up pulling the platform out about 10” and fixing it in that spot. We still sleep side to side like you referenced but this gave us just a little more should room from each other. And the big change was we went to a Hest dually mattress. So comfortable, it’s amazing. I’ll be doing a walk around update video in the near future of all the changes.
Looks awesome! Maybe when you do the full walk around, grab a tape and give some basic measurements of the inside and bed areas? Looks like so much living space! Did you also sell your drawer system?
Thanks! Oh man already shot the walk around. That would have been a good idea. I’ll have to do that when I do some build out progress updates. And yes I sold the drawer system. Got figure something else out now.
Why did you choose black over white to match the truck. I only ask because it seems like the black one would be hotter in summer time. I never ordered one because if the wait time and had I just did it I would have one by now. Now if I order it I will miss summer use. Someday. Vicious cycle lol
I have a whole black and white color scheme on the truck plus love the rugged look of diamond plate and the diamond plate on comes in black. Didn’t want smooth sides due to pin stripes from branches.
It’s still perfect a year later. People have that pop top material for 10-20 years before they get it replaced. It will outlast the time frame most people will even own it.
Great looking rig. I am considering one for my 2021 Tundra. Was there any issues with the Tundra roof mount radio antenna? Same radio reception? Clearances ok with antenna and bottom of topper?
Thanks!! My truck is old so I didn’t have that antenna. Clearance wouldn’t be a problem, just signal. I fit a whole roof rack on mine if you take a look at one of my more recent videos. Plenty of room. Maybe someone makes an antenna delete or relocation kit.
Great looking upgrade! And don't worry. The non-keto lunch wasn't nearly as bad as the donut you ate yesterday in class! Hope your wife doesn't read these comments! ;)
"Tail gate Seal" off of amazon which makes a huge difference. Then I got a bulb seal to run across the edge of the FWC hatch door plastic piece that touches the top lip of the tail gate. Here is the link for that bulb seal. a.co/d/0DfrslW
Apologize if it was been covered before, but what was the major reason for the switch away from the GFC? Just more interior space primarily? Been considering a GFC, superpacific, or loan peak from our current RTT and bed rack. Were you able to use your exped inside the GFC with all of the cushions still in place? Or did they all have to come out except for the cushions over the pass through area?
Space and warmth are the two big reasons. The walls are insulated on the FWC and the pop top isn’t tent material. Regarding ExPed, yes but you can’t move the GFCfloor, you would want to use a ladder from the exterior. You also have to let the air out of the ExPed to close the GFC top. Scroll back on my YT channel and I have a 1 year review video of the GFC and the video when we went to sequoias and kings canyon has a minute or two of explaining our bedding set up.
@@prospectoverland awesome thanks. Really thinking a topper like this is what is going to get us out more over our current setup, but I have yet to be able to see one in person and plan to go to the Pacific Northwest expo show but it's not for a month and I'm itching to get going
@@prospectoverland did you ever use the GFC by passing thru from the truck bed? Getting in from the side seems decent, tho similar to our current RTT aside from the loose ladder that needs stored
@@rossipremier what type of truck are you working with? I’ll have a full walk around video of the FWC hopefully posting by Sunday June 4th. So keep an eye out for that. I used the pass through on the GFC maybe two times and then the mattress was soooo hard that we had to add the ExPed and then never used the pass through again. We are sooo happy and comfortable with the FWC, you should really consider it. Those other brands are still just tent material when it comes down to it. This blocks all the wind.
@@prospectoverland 2018 F150 6.5ft bed, the big issue right now is we are considering a switch to a 2019 or 2020 f150 with the 5.5 bed for more cab room. So if we do that, I can't order any kind of topper yet...bit of a pickle. But the bed cover and bedside in the back with tent on a rack just isn't working for me anymore, have a kitchen box I made in the end of the bedside but all other gear is in totes and sliding the whole thing in and out and the totes are just not what we want. Thank you for the info about the bed, do you think you could have left the exped mattress up top on the panels instead of the original GFC cushions allowing you to leave the pass through cushions in place? Or would that have put your feet too close to the small side of the wedge? Watching those other videos you mentioned next. The 4wheel camper looks awesome, I do like that canopies and toppers still allow for some truck stuff in the bed, or a little more than maybe the project M does.
Thanks. In google maps type Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park South Camp and that pin drop location will be real close to our exact camp site. There are a couple hundred to choose from inside the campground.
@@prospectoverland thank you, we are originally from San Bernardino, but I am in the Coast Guard and currently live in New Orleans. We are moving to Petaluma at the end of June and we are excited to get outdoors! New Orleans is miserable!!
@@prospectoverland Thank you for the quick response. We live about 10 miles from Four Wheel Camper, so if we got one we would have it installed like you did. Our truck is a Rivian R1T. They don't have a camper for that rig yet, but they told us they are developing one.
@@prospectoverland It crazy because my bike's hand grips scrape the hatch on the way in and out but it squeezes by lol you NEED a dirt bike hint hint!!!!!

Or the fact that every time its raining you get soaked while getting in your vehicle. Or your seats get flooded. How they cant design a proper drip edge at this price point is the best question. Rain water is running down exactly where you open your driver and passenger door. Its also funny when they tried to sell me on a $6000 solar setup. No diesel heater option either, all they sell is a crappy little propane heater ....for more than 3 grand of course. Its a absolute ripoff.
First saw one of those on Trail Recon on his sons Tacoma. Crazy how much room there is inside of them. Glad you like your new setup.
Ours was almost ready for pick up when that video came out and made us even more excited to get it. Yeah tons of room!!
Great camper, I picked up my Project M last month and can’t wait to take it out.
Awesome congrats on your new camper. We have so many plans with our already. Can’t wait.
That’s awesome. I was looking at the GFC but now that one looks much more appealing. Very nice
Yeah you should take a hard look at Four Wheel Camper stuff for sure. They are awesome!!
Nice choice, full size + FWC is hard to beat!
So happy with it. Can’t imagine one of those flat bed rigs with the even bigger campers
Peeling the screen protector is a must! Looks great.
Thanks!
Congrats on the new camper!

Oh and would you do 2 fans if you could do it over again or put the fan over the sleeping area instead??
I would still just do the one fan over the truck bed. Not the sleeping bed. I used all the roof space for solar panels.

How long did the install take? Great looking truck btw!!!!
About 4 hours. You either do a morning slot or an afternoon slot.

Just on Amazon, magnetic. Haven’t faded at all.
What is the bed length sideways
72 inches
What does it cost?
