Howdy, nice looking install, I’m sure the ambiance from the Dickinson is awesome and super cozy! One item I learned while installing a Propex in our OVRLND camper: the propane regulator needs to be outside your living space as the regulator can vent propane. Also ensure you use the appropriate regulator for your mounting position (horizontal or vertical - learned that lesson too). Lastly you may want to install an explosive gas detector so you’re made aware ASAP if anything starts leaking. Enjoy your camper and hope to see you down the trail.
@@prospectoverlandMan, pls do. I just knew u existed for the past 20 min but I’m already nervous. Lmfao. But, that’s because I imagine it’s myself doing this.
I have the 12000 on my boat installed 2 yrs ago. Your install looks nice. The only thing I would recommend is a 12v propane leak detector installed below the unit. As you know, propane heavier than air so will seek a bottom. I bought mine on Amazon and wired to fan wires on the heater.
Really funny I just ordered a diesel heater for my GFC today. I looked at this one and I think it will be awesome in the 4 wheel camper, but I couldn’t see it working well in a GFC. Nice job as always! 👍
yeah since everything opens up on the GFC would be hard to find a good spot to mount and vent the pipes. Thanks for checking it out though, appreciate it!
Great install of the heater and vid. I'm picking up my Project M on Monday and look forward to building out my rig. You have given me some great ideas. Keep up the good work and I will be sure to pass on the channel to my friends.
Awesome camper and installer. My only thought was the closeness of the exhaust to the tent material. It has been 2 months so assume I worried for nothing. This project M is still my first choice unless I find a used camper shell first. I dont need much for one or two night getaways. Stay safe
No issues at all just spent the night in the snow and blasted the heater all night. No issues with tent material. The project m is unbelievable comfort and space.
NICE dude, waiting for my project m to be built. I have been buying up parts and so forth for my build. I am curious to see your solar panel bracket system up to, I did opt in for the tracks on the roof but nothing else. I have looked at over 50 ideas to heat the unit inside. this is def the BEST way to do it. please keep us updated, would love to see you testing this in real world cold temps.
Thanks and congrats. You will love the M I did a whole video on solar if you haven’t seen it and have an Amazon parts list in the video description. I also just ordered with roof tracks and did the rest myself.
Ah yeah that makes sense. I can certainly see why the bigger space wouldn’t be great. It’s just enough for our small space but not by a lot. Thanks for watching.
glad to hear you love yours. all the video I watched doing my research were of course Alu Cab set ups. Not sure why no one does them with the FWC product line.
Really nice install video. I was curious about the framing that you cut out but you explained it straight away. I have a project M as well and was considering different heating methods for winter. I’ve used (and still have) a buddy heater and a Wave 3 but I went with a cheapo diesel heater for this season. I may go another route for next year, I always have propane with me but rarely take extra fuel since I typically don’t need it. I really don’t want to cut a hole in the wall for a chimney though since I’ll only have the heater for a few months a year so I’m thinking of exhausting out the window similar to how my diesel heater blows in. That flame burning in the Dickinson looks fantastic! WOW this is a long comment.
Well done! Haven’t seen a Dickinson installed on a 4Wheel PM before. I’ve cancelled out certain canopy campers due to their inability to mount one, and the Alu Cab seemed to be the only one that could take it. Now the Project M joins it! Love it.
Very clean install. I assume the clearamce required from the chimney to the canvas is minimal and there is no way for that exhaust air to get back into the camper
@@NYTAZ145 the outer pipe does get pretty hot. You don't want to touch it for very long. I think if foam was directly touching the pipe, then yes it would melt the foam some. I don't have any foam in the spot where it comes through the rear wall so no worries on that part.
Thank you!!! It’s a Dickensen Newport heater 9000. There are multiple sources to buy from so just choose what you prefer…they are not a US company so they just have a bunch of dealers. I honestly don’t remember the website I ordered from. It was some east coast company.
Thanks and no not at all. The metal tube inside the camper gets hot to the touch but the air coming out of the exhaust on the exterior doesn’t get anywhere close to hot enough for the tent material. Just got back from Running it 8hrs a night this weekend and works flawless.
Now that you have gotten a chance to use this thing for a few months, how does it do in the real cold? I’ve heard they can’t quite keep up in the serious winter temps. But they are just so cool.
I have a P9000 in my Scamp and it works well. I'm a little curious about your chimney. I have a lot of experience with wood burning stoves and I'm always careful to locate the top of the chimney to above the roof line so when the wind blows across the roof it does not create back pressure or vacuum that could affect how freely the hot air rises, and how in this case the cool air circulates downward. You could probably test that at least to some degree. Have you tested this setup?
It works amazing and use it all the time. I kept the chimney low to avoid it being ripped off on tree branches and such while running trails to camp. It has gone out one time in a crazy windy snow storm. But it has a safety switch as I’m sure you know and auto turns off the propane so no biggie. Just re lit it and good to go.
How did you mount the Expedition Essentials propane tank holder? Does it still out “too far” from the footprint of the camper? I have the same one and but am I’m worried that it will still out a lot and can easily get ripped off.
I used the jack bracket bolts on the corner of the camper. I could send some pictures if you are on Instagram. Message me, Prospect_Overland. Just shoot me your question as a reminder.
No thermostat option. Just low med high type of dial. The interior exhaust tube gets pretty hot to the touch. You would not want to set anything against it. Very quiet. Thanks for watching
I haven’t tested it real worked but allegedly about 77 on low and 55 on high. I find that hard to believe but even if it’s a portion of that I’ll be happy. Looking forward to testing it soon
Zero issues. The exhaust pipe does a very good job. I can almost touch the metal with my hand directly. I can hold my hand a 1//4 from the outlet and only mildly hot air comes out. It’s a dual layer pipe so the outside of the pipe is the cold intake air. Interior center of pipe is the hot air exiting.
Thanks so much for posting this. I'm going to be doing something similar on an overloading travel trailer like camper we are building. Our camper also has a pop up roof. How is that chimney cap you have working? Is there any heat or soot getting on your pop up? Subscribed.
Hey thanks for watching! The heat coming off the chimney is minimal. The vinyl pop top doesn’t get hot at all. And no soot at all either. The metal is too hot to touch but I can hold my hand just 1” away and the air coming out once mixed with the cool outside air is just warm.
Hey man! How many inches long is the pipe on the outside of camper? How many inches is the chimney away from the camper vinyl? I’m installing mine this month and would love to know! Thanks
None. I can hold my hand immediately next to the vent and just marginally warm air exits. The actual metal is a bit hot to touch for any lengthy amount of time but the actual air causes no issues
Hello, I’m doing this install on the project m using your links. Do you add any gasket material between the steel pipes and the Dickinson? Or do u just snug it
The included flexible pipe that Dickinson sends slips right on top of the heater. If you are talking about the other connection, the steel exterior pipe slips inside the larger flexible pipe. Look up GP factor also. They sell a product that can also give ideas for install styles. Just as a reference.
Really clean install but seriously look into the health risks of combustion gases you aren’t monitoring, like benzene. Personally I wouldn’t mess around with them.
Beautiful Job! 👍

Awesome - Those dickinson heaters are sweet in the Alu-Cabs, always been jealous as I have a GFC. Sweet to see you adapt it to the Project M.

Great job on the install. Any concerns about how hot the exhaust cap will be so close to the vinyl?
Curious about this also.

I haven’t been down in single digit temps yet but in the snow storm I was recently in it kept the camper 68-70 degrees inside the camper.
