Braving a BLIZZARD - Truck Camping Alone in a Massive Snow Storm

- In this video we head to the Sierra Mountains just before a snow storm is about to roll in. We were excited at the likely hood we would be able to do some winter camping in our Four Wheel Campers Project M Pop Top camper. When we arrived the first day it was dry, windy and cold but overnight the storm rolled in. We woke up to a fresh layer of powdery snow blanketing the mountainous area. The short trip to the snow quickly became one of our favorite camping experiences ever.
My advice is point your truck directly down the trail you came in on especially in previous snow tracks. That gives you pre-travelled vehicle tracks eliminating turning around on fresh snow and possible sinking and getting stuck
Good tip! Tks
I love that you said, "We MADE fruit and yogurt." that is my kind of cooking.
Haha didn’t even realize that. “Assembled”
Nice job. Glad to see the heater is working out well for you.
Thank you! Yes it worked great
Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Love your adventurous spirits.

Thank you! Yes, I was really happy how the drone stuff turned out even with the heavy winds and snow.
Great stuff. The drone shots were especially good.

I love your set up! I can’t wait to get one
Thanks! What are you planning to get?
@@prospectoverland a project m most likely after seeing your vids of the builds, have you noticed any issues with the weight being on your bedrails yet?
@@jamestomlinson2247zero issues but I did add bed rail stiffeners years ago for a previous camper. They are cheap. I’d recommend just as an extra precaution but not required per FWC.
hey prospect overland awesome video the snow was really coming down you two were smart getting out of the Area before it got really bad
Thanks for watching, appreciate it. Yeah we only had a few inches on the ground but it was going to start adding up quick. And the wind just start to get no fun .
Hi from Atlanta Ga. I had to comment because she REALLY wanted to hunker down but, he was like Smh Lol 😂❤
Great job! Video skills are 🤜🤛
Thank you! Appreciate ya watching
Great trip, Sammie says hi!
Hi!!! Thanks it was awesome.
Fantastic video guys! Looked fun. Hopefully the drive down that hill wasn’t too bad for you…
Thank You! Luckily a Cal Trans snow plow had just come up the mtn as we drove down.
Bro congrats on this video slaying!!
Thanks man! One day when I grow up I might make it as a real UA-camr like you.

Looks amazing, looks the temp is good for camping. BTW, hello from China. :)
It was so much fun. Wow thanks for watching from China. Appreciate it.

Is there enough space for a front runner roof rack under the cab overhang?
Was that Troy meadows? Have you checked out Bonita meadows? Love watching y’all. Makes me miss some things about Cali. Thanks for doing these videos. If ya ever make it up to Idaho let’s us know.
I haven’t been to either of those places…at least not by those names. Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check them out.
We would love CA coast, up to PNW, then all the way across to Montana trip. I have it planned, just need to find the time.
Thanks for watching
Awesome drone footage
Thank you! I’m really happy with how the drone video turned out being windy and snowy
New to your channel, curious what brand the camper is? Thanks, cool video!
Hey thanks for following along. It’s a Four Wheel Camper project M.
Scroll back on my channel a few videos and I did a video just on the camper itself.
Hey guys, awesome fireplace install. Question, would I need any electricity in camper to install the propane Dickinson heater or is electricity just something nice to have to run vent fan but not totally required? Thank you.
With Aloha,
Matt
Thanks. Yeah you will need some power. It’s consumes very little 12v power. The radiant heat without the fan to blow it would not produce much. I would not recommend if you have no way to do power. I also run a 12v propane sensor.
A small auxiliary power supply maybe like a goal zero or something similar.
@@prospectoverland , thank you so very much for this info. I have the Jackery Explorer 300....I wonder if this is powerful enough to run that fan? Thanks again. Great work with your build out.
With Aloha,
Matt
@@BoondockBertoOverland oh yeah for sure it would run that fan. Then the propane sensor draws hardly any power at all.
@@prospectoverland , that's awesome to know----thank you so much.
How did you sleep with the winds and the pop up tent? Was it flapping everywhere?
The camper/pop top makes zero wind noise. It’s nothing like a regular tent material pop top. This thick vinyl siding doesn’t make noise. But the truck does turn into a big wind wall/block so the entire truck shakes around a little in the big gusts but noise is not the issue. We sleep very well, we have switched to a hest mattress and love it.
Mind sharing what ladder/stairs you have for outside of the tailgate?
Here is the link for my Amazon store with the exact ladder

@@prospectoverland thanks!
Did you guys make the window curtains, or were they bought like that? They look insulted as well
Thanks!
When you purchase the thermal pack from FWC they come with window covers.
Wow, braving a blizzard while truck camping alone in a massive snowstorm must have been quite the adventure! We sent you an email, please take a look.
Thanks I’ll look for the email. Appreciate it
Was this up in Big Bear or in the Idyllwild side? Nice content during blizzard.
Thanks for checking it out. But no, it was up the Hwy 395 in Sierras.
@@prospectoverland -O I see, yup I was up in Alabama Hills too, and there was a big storm that hit us, wind was hitting us really hard, there were 3 of us with Four Wheel Campers and we were impressed that the campers held up with those really strong winds as we hunkered down through the night. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Oh we were very close to you guys. Just up a couple thousand more feet. Yeah wind was horrible. Also, very happy with how it did in the wind.
Hi Guys, Great video!!!! We were in Barstow and experienced really bad winds but unfortunately no snow. I think Beverly and I would have loved to see some snow, glad you guys had a great time and you had safe travels..... Hope to see you guys on another overland trip soon.
Hey thank you! Oooo yeah I bet Barstow was bad. Hope to see you guys soon.
Does the wood stove come with that camper
It’s propane and no it doesn’t. Scroll back a couple videos on my page and I showed the install process.
Hey bud, what's your wheel tire setup with offset please?
18” Icon compressions with +25 offset. 37x12.5 BFG km3.
How did you get your garmin subscription so cheap?
I just checked and I pay 11.95 a month. I get 10 free text messages. Then expensive per message after that. I ended up paying $6 extra in texts for this trip. Then I pay an additional $29 a year for extra search and rescue insurance so if I push the sos i wont get charged 20k for the helicopter pickup.
What brand is the rear bumper?
Expedition one
What size truck do you have
Toyota tundra
Half a water bottle on the dash. It works
What does that do?
Title should be changed if you leave after 3” of snow.
Man what a view to wake up to I love winter camping!
Yeah it was awesome! Thanks for watching.
Boring!!!
Wimps. 😂
