Isaac are you sure you want to give up having a truck where you can haul things in vs a truck bed camper that only one person can use? Seems like a pull behind camper would be so much more useful. Unless you're planning to be camping alone without the family 24/7, a truck bed camper would mean giving up your day-to-day use of a truck for hauling things. Being a home owner now, a pull behind camper would be more useful it seems to me to have for camping trips. Being a truck owner, it sure is handy having the bed of truck for various things to haul even if it's just groceries and/or supplies needed for your new home. You would lose all that if you turn it into a camper all built out.
I totally agree. I don't see much family camping in this slide in camper. Way too small and not practical for the whole family. I guess if you and a buddy want to go camping this would work. I would definitely go with cab over camper so Jaylena and Ember can go with you. @@isaacturnerit
I agree with you. I did mention this to him in his last video. Isaac said it wouldn't be coming off, but maybe he changed his mind about the whole project. Having it for constant build trips for his homestead is definitely a plus!
Thank you for your informative videos. As a 67 yr. old recently widowed woman I found this very helpful. I am about to make a purchase of a new truck with slide in camper or purchase a Sprinter van and.have Mountain Made Vans in Utah build it out. Your video reinforces in my mind just how awesome the slide ins can be. Plus I don't know if I have the patience to wait for a build out. Thanks again, Love following the new direction life has taken you and Jaleena with the addition of lil Ember Wild...🎈
Think slide in ! Van, limited 4x4 options, and what you build is pretty much in that van forever. If you want a different, larger, smaller, lighter it’s hard to change. With a truck slide in you can sell the camper and get a new truck, sell the camper and get a different model. To sell the built out van you have to find someone who likes the vehicle and build. With a slide in camper you can sell the truck and camper separately, a much larger pool of buyers.
Isaac always seeks out the experts and gets all the answers to his questions before he spends a dime or his time.! that's why he's where he's at today, and just on the oft hand that some else may be interested in the same interests, he shares the things he learned along his journey so others can benefit, selfishness is not in his vocabulary, and that's a good trait for anyone have.
@isaacturnerit Glad you liked that my friend!! Thanks for the time that you dedicate to this thing called UA-cam and for being open and sharing you're family and life!! I look forward to seeing you make sweet music in that studio too !!🇵🇭
That was so interresting. Never would have guessed there are so many options to go with. Great video Isaac! I hope they give you a good discount for showing their campers! Lol
Nice options!! I always like the nicest of anything! Its definitely a curse, lol. I think they are all great options just depends on you and what you want. You can’t go wrong!😊
Man those campers have come a long way issac! I had a big cabover camper on my 3/4 ton international 4x4 but it was exactly that "big" and very heavy but have to say i really enjoyed it after that it was a few stepvans then came the busses and well you know the story! But yea those sure are nice! Say hi jaylena and beautiful ember! Whatever choice you make im sure will be a good one
Issac you seem so happy and relaxed doing what you love. House stuff is not your jam and it show. Interviewing people is something you do well. Always enjoy your bus tours, this tour you just did, i could see you interviewing other music artists and their stories. Go back watch your house tours verses the tour you did today. There is a definite deference .in your tone and relaxed manner. Yes you have a home base but for your channel i think people watch it more when they see you happy and relaxed.
I'd say just use the peer/truck topper first to see what you really need. I went the same route for 6 months before getting an ovrlnd camper. The dust and water thing is really not a issue and lots of people use the rubber tailgate cover. I stopped having dust coming. Coming from a bus, you are going to realize you lost lots of space. When you have all your gear in the back of the truck, it will be very tight. My truck was getting 22/23 and even the 400 to 500 lbs camper with fully loaded gear drops the mileage to 15mpg which I'm happy with. For the Indra, expect 8-10mpg bc it's a v8. Also, the project M/pop up option is better imo bc you can certainly build it as well as the slide in but lose 500lbs in weight. Weight should not be underestimated! Even with 400-500lbs extra you need upgraded heavy duty leaf springs and beef up shocks.
Great video Isaac & Nathan enjoyed the ability to go take a closer look through your lens -glad you’re checking things out first before any decisions I noticed there quite the variety of roof top tents available I liked your idea of base model but after seeing your cabinet making from your bus building days I think you’re better to go basic and then build in your details with your ideas would be fun to see you building some smaller scale details then it wouldn’t be so tiring or dragging time out -as winter rainier season approaches glad you have a shop and storage bay for off season stuff to work on Epic stuff I noticed the hiatus roof top look cool and worth it too adding your build touches into it to make it unique from everyone else’s-can’t wait to follow your vids ahead 🎉❤😊
I really think you should have a look at the overlanding camp trailers! I just feel it would be so much easier than toting a camper around on the back of the truck. Plus you can park the trailer once you get out where you are going. then the truck is open to go out exploring.
@@isaacturnerit Hell yeah! They are sweet! They can get pricy but i see a lot of them DIY! You are a builder so it would be pretty easy for you to build one out. Maybe just start with the trailer frame and suspension. The overlanding trailers have a pretty sweet suspension system.
Thanks for the camper tour. All of them have pros and cons to think about. That canopy system was nice. Gave you a lot of shade area right beside and covering over the door to protect from wet weather. I was wondering if the canopy system came with side panels. This would give you an outside room as there isn’t much walking space inside.
A lot of questions being asked that people need to think of before buying then finding out that it is not the right one for them well done isaac. It would be nice if you could get a trial of your favorite one and try it with family and then decide or go for a used one that has been tried and tested. I wonder if some of that companies take older ones back in part exchange on newer models then that way you could get some come back if too many faults which if you bought privately you have bought it sold as seen
Isaac, Save your money. Times are hard, & with World War 3 looming, things could get a whole lot tougher. I don't believe any of those campers would adequately take care of 3 people, especially when Ember gets 3 or 4 more years older. Maybe you need to consider slowing down on the spending spree, however, it's not my business, but I love the 3 of you, & have watched your videos for a long time now, & I just can't see the 3 of you jammed up together in one of those tiny campers. Stay well & be safe. 😊❤
As someone who has owned a few different Toyotas, I would love to see you get your hands on an old Toyota dolphin RV and deck it out... Even though you're trying to get away from the build outs
We had a big ol cab over in the earl 70's. It extended past the sides of the truck. The Truck was a special camper edition. My parents and my brother and I traveled a lot in it. I know it is not as much room as the bus, but it is a different type of adventure. You won't be living in it, you will be camping in it. Pretty freaking amazing how they are now. So many options. I didn't see an option for a connecting window to the truck. I wonder is that is something you could have custom designed. It would be very useful. Looking forward to seeing what you decide. Thanks for the tag along, pretty cool.
I’m fairly local, and had been looking at MULE if I end up going the Four Wheel camper route. Just not sure if I want Project M, then have to deal with dust or water. Or go the slide in route, either Hawk or just a full hard sided Scout Kenia.
Really enjoyed the journey through all the campers. Definitely a lot of options to consider. And also consider still using your truck like a truck. Not sure what your truck would do with a camper and a trailer behind it. Just a thought??
If you are new to the nomad way of life and a woman on their own, for safety reasons, consider the van. You cannot take off if necessary with vacating the trailer in the night as you can get away when already in your van. Always something to think about when alone.
I want to get a truck to carry a base model Hawk slide in. I would be interested in knowing what kind of payload capacity the truck should have to carry the camper full time. I will, of course, carry gear and water in the camper. There will primarily be just myself one person in the camper so it will be less than most people, maybe 500 additional lbs at most. Remember, the camper will be on the truck full time, I would prefer to get a truck and not have to modify it. I don't want to over stress the suspension of the truck. Being that you built out the busses, did you look into the quality of what they used in materials. Also if down the road you change your mind what type of a loss will you take on selling it. Is there a market for these type of things. Just somethings to think about since money is hard to come by these days. Take care and Love y'all.
