Exploring Yosemite & Mammoth In My Go Fast Camper

- On this trip we head North up State Route 395 towards the Eastern Sierra Mountains. We explore, camp and fish in the Mammoth Mountain area. We later moved further north to Yosemite National Park and do some more hiking and fishing inside the park. We visited Yosemite Valley and did the Lower Falls Hike and checked out Curry Village and Yosemite Village. We loved the upper area of the park, specifically Tuolumne Meadows. The area has a winding river for Trout Fishing and naturally occuring springs such as the popular Soda Springs. On the way home we stopped to take a look around the June Lake area and had lunch. This is an area we will be visiting a lot more in the future.
Makes me wanna sell my house and go off grid for a few years!!! Good stuff!

New sub started off watching your 37” install vid great vid I have a 2020 1794 all stock still trying to figure out what my first big move is building my overlander so I’m soaking up as many builds I can find on UA-cam to research my build . Glad I found your channel great content bro . I have a channel myself about stacking gold and silver I know what it gos into making content so thanks for the hard work and great content.
I fought a wild land fire up at Yosemite in 2019 spent months there all I kept thinking was man I wish I had an overland to play in some of the areas locked behind gates we had the pleasure of working at . And the idea of building an overlander was born . Cheers beautiful trip

You have pretty much my dream setup! I’m in process of making my overland build. Loved your video in fitting the 37s and icons on your rig. Seeing everything that went into the BMC and pinch weld has me wanting to do it myself.
Thanks man. Its taken some time to get to this point for sure. But I am super happy with how its turning out. And yeah. Pinch weld isn't too bad. Plus it gets covered up by the plastic.

Thanks (reference the truck) and yes, was not the best, I am aware of trying to not touch the body of the fish to leave the coating on and you're right, totally failed at that part. Ill do better next time. Just posted up a new hiking/camping video!!

Thank you. Its getting a little easier and quicker to do the editing now that I've done a few. Flows a little better.

I haven't changed anything at all about GFC or FPG stuff since my last review video. I am going to do one specifically on my solar and fridge set up soon though.

Yeah that’s a good idea. I’ve added a lot of stuff recently too…as soon as I can make it through a video without sweating in this SoCal heat I should do one.

Yes drilled a hole in the black aluminum tube by the silver end cap. Then used black silicone around the wire.

Just a heads up on handling trout when catching and releasing.. when you lip them like a bass like that you're most likely breaking their jaw bones/structure and they'll probably die soon after. Trout are a way more sensitive species than bass and sunfish. Handle them by the torso instead. Also make sure your hands are wet, if your hands aren't wet then you're removing their protective slime and they'll contract bacterial infections and die a few weeks later.

Hey sorry for the delay getting back to you. I have gears and locker on order right now. 5.29’s and Eaton E locker. It drives around town fine without regear but struggles on obstacles off road. Looking forward to getting these installed.

Hey Man! Quick Question. I noticed something in your car that got me interested. I saw that you have your phone on Navigation, a GPS Screen (maybe a Garmin???) and a handheld orange mini GPS. Why do you have three, what are each of their purposes, and do you recommend it for someone just getting into overloading? Could I get by with just my phone and onX Offroad Downloaded maps?
Good question. Orange garmin is just for satellite text message and emergency search and rescue help. It’s a monthly subscription device.
Phone is usually running something normal like google maps and then the iPad mini will usually have Gaia or OnX Maps running. All the map systems offer different perks and strength so I find my self switching between multiple.
Yes you could get by with just the phone with OnX for sure, I just like to have a couple options.
@@prospectoverland ok. Cool! Thankyou so much! Sounds like the Garmin is probably a good idea either way. Which one do you have, and how much is it per month. Do you recommend that one or a different one?
@@christianmurray8118 it’s called the Inreach. I would just get the mini version because it connects to an app on your phone and you can just use the app to send and receive text messages via the garmin device. The larger one I have has a small screen so you could technically send a message using that screen but it’s pretty terrible so I solely used the app. And I think it’s $15 a month and you get like 10 or 20 texts for free. All different levels of plans you can purchase.
I wish you would go more in depth about how you chose your camp spots, why and cost?
Really we just had a general area we wanted to be for Mammoth area and it was so packed we kinda just snagged spots any where we could. They were about $18-$25 a night. The camp spot by Yosemite was pretty wide open. Couple camp ground options just outside the east gate on the 395 side. Typically I might be more picky about location but Mammoth is so busy in the summer...nuts.
Nice brook trout. They are very rare and hard to catch in my area.
I’m a newbie at fly fishing. Only done it a handful of times so was happy to catch a couple. Always been a spin cast fisher.
@@prospectoverland I've been fly fishing most of my adult life. What you caught there is the most sought after fish in my parts. You literally have to sneak up on them just like hunting. This fish here are very skittish. Where I live they are wild. Not stocked. That's the beauty of catching them. I was conventional fisherman for the longest time but when I tried fly fishing I never went back. Even in salt water. Catching a 50+ lb. striper on a fly rod , you'll never go back.
@@iamdavid6716 I did notice they seemed to see me very easily and they would dart off super fast! The two I did catch was when I threw the line across the river to the other edge and landed the fly in the calm water right by the bank. I’m assuming that worked because they couldn’t see me on the opposite side???
@@prospectoverland yeah they can feel your footsteps and yes they can see you. One time fishing for them I had to crouch down and I was casting on my knees lol. But for the most part brookies area the only trout species like that. Browns and bows are bigger and not as skittish. Watch a movie called A Rivet Runs Through It. If you enjoy fly fishing you'll love the movie. I used to be a fly fishing instructor when I was in Trout Unlimited. A global club dedicated to fly fishing. I live on the east coast but I'm moving to Modesto California by the end of this month. I've seen what that area has to offer and I'll be definitely doing some Overland fly fishing out there. I have a Toyota Tundra waiting for me.
