Great video Clark! I got my books for the first half of the year, but I'll add your recommendations for the second half of the year. The one that caught more my interest is Atomic Habits, that is a must for sure.
Read comedy of coffin on kindle written by Avijit Kabiraj. Introduction : Two unemployed boys were employed by a mafia boss, their job is to bury a dead chef in the criminal's cemetery. The chef is the pasta maker whom the boss accidentally shot dead. The boys were chased by the police, shot by a sniper, rested in a church, kidnapped by an evil doctor, electrocuted, freezed, roasted, couple of ladies didn't spare them, survived the strange graveyard but when they returned after burying the dead chef, found the boss in a coffin....
One of the best books I have ever read was Man's Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl. Two ideas that I have carried with me from that short book are: 1. No matter how bad life is objectively, you determine how you feel in that moment about it, and that is ultimate freedom, and 2. Meaning happens at the intersection between you and the world. Those are two profound ideas.
If you read 25 pages a day… That’s 750 pages a month (3-4 books)… Which turns into 9,000 pages a year… That’s 35+ books a year… Just by reading 25 pages a day.
The big game changer for me with retaining what I read is to highlight the important passages, and then after reading go back and re-read those highlights while writing them down in a notebook. I bought a notebook specifically for writing notes on the books I read, so then later I can go back again and reread my main notes from each book. I was so tired of looking back on books I've read and not being able to recall or articulate anything useful from it after a couple months went by.

Atomic Habits was the most life-changing book I read in 2020 for sure. It's just completely changed my thinking. I borrowed it from the library, and as soon as I read it, I bought it because I knew I would want to reread it, and be able to lend it out to anyone and everyone. For me, it has helped me get systems for exercise (I now exercise 2-3 times every day), cleaning (my husband I used to have lots of fights over the dishes because I've always been less clean than him, now we have a system that works well for both of us). But it also just has changed my approach to tasks. I'm always asking myself - how can I make it: easy? attractive? obvious? satisfying? I just do those little things that help grease the wheels to do the next and next steps in lots of different areas of my life, and it's been great. But I've just been reading a book that I think may be even more transformative, so highly recommend it. It's an older book, and it takes A LOT of work to actually put the practices into place, but if you have something you want to really do, I highly recommend it: Think Better by Tim Hurson. It's based on over 50 years of research into the areas of improving thinking, and is truly transformational.
Totally with you. Atomic Habits has been a game changer for me. It takes big scary things and turns them into things that are too silly not to do..... and that is where the changes take place. It is also non shaming.... it discusses the psychology of bad habits and how to make it easier on yourself not to do them. I love that book with all my heart.
@@kbailey3238 I read it last year, but I'm thinking I might need to re-read it. I did take extensive notes, so maybe I'll start there. But I realize I have still been struggling to act on the advice presented in the book. Looking through notes could help spur me to do so.
Tip: Create a Notion database with all the knowledge you find on books, podcasts, movies, videos, etc. That would be like your brain and you could always have that knowledge at your disposal. When you write stuff you remember it easily. But organize and tag it well. Then create a database of all your projects and ideas and apply that knowledge
the first one is absolutely true. i thought I was depressed because of college and quit, it was my worst mistake ever, I spent a year doing absolutely nothing and it was miserable, the worst year ever. Now im in college, in the gym, playing football at saturdays, reading books and although I have a lot more "responsabilities" I can get a lot more done than when I had nothing to do, It's weird, but I'm way happier now, I feel a bit more useful.

My husband and I used to watch Netflix in the evenings but he asked me once which was the best way to learn more English vocabulary and I said reading, you will expand your vocabulary that way. Now we read together in the evenings reading a chapter each. Its been great as we discuss what we have been reading whether its non fiction or fiction. He went from having one book to a little library of books and he told me the other day how much he loves reading now and how much he has learnt. He recently bought Atomic Habits, we have only just started reading it, it's a really great book! ❤😊

"Daring Greatly" by Brené Brown is a fantastic book. She studies shame/vulnerability and this book lays out how those play a role in every aspect of our life (who we are, how we interact with others, how we respond to situations, etc.).

"The Righteous Mind" also by Jonathan Hadit is by far my favorite book by him. It could almost be called "How Your Mind Works" or "Why You Think the Way You Do". Ok, the next one is not a self help book but it is a fascinating explanation of how things ended up as they are now. It is called "Guns, Germs and Steel".

I'll recommend something another coach said several years ago and it was so simple but still an outstanding idea, read a fictional book to learn something. There are some great books that are fiction but can still teach you something you need to know, there are some fictional characters who's main trait is discipline, some can teach you about the grind, some how to take care of your well being and not stress. Don't be too hung up on the form, if its a 1000 pages book by a famous author or a couple of pages comic, as long as it can teach its good.

I agree with reading one book 5 times over 5 books 1 time - each pass brings in new detail and things can indeed be missed the first 4 times. Also many interconnected ideas become way more apparent on that 2nd pass!
The point you were making about the very first book makes SO much sense during the pandemic.. I hate zoom classes but the second I have nothing to do is when I truly feel miserable. So ultimately I'm happy I go to college even during this time because its so much better than having no obligations at all
The best books I've read this year are 1. Naked Economics by Charles Whelan because it gave me an overall understanding of how economics works and from there so many other books and conversations made sense to me. 2. Principles by Ray Dalio, I'm still reading it now but it's already changing my life
Principles is a good book. Good list though, I will check out Naked Economics because Principles is the second best book in your recommendation with only two books :D
The best read so far in my life was "The Life‑Changing Magic of Tidying Up" by Marie Kondo! No jokes, that helps a ton not only with decluttering your home, but also your mind and for being a kinder person to yourself. I had a terrible habit of being a hoarder and wasn't allowing myself to let go of stuff, but Marie's book helped me greatly to change my mindset. It works like a magic :D
HIGHLY Suggest “The Elephant In the Brain” by Robin Hanson. Understanding why brains are motivated at a fundamental level really helped me start seeing the systems of humanity and understand why people behave as they do.
'Losing Control Finding Serenity' by Daniel A Miller is the BEST book I've ever read. I never realised how much controlling behaviours run our lives. If you struggle with anxiety and stress especially it can be a life changer.
2:00 talking about adding constrains. Can really relate. Quit my corporate consulting job to become a solo-entrepreneur, thinking total freedom would be awesome. But too much freedom just makes your head spin.

"No More Mr. Nice Guy" - by Dr. Robert Glover (by the way, this book has absolutely nothing to do with being mean or being a jerk) The above 2 books are excellent to help those that have emotional or psychological issues. The Comfort Crisis by Michael Easter was the most impactful book that I read in 2021. The author actually references The Happiness Hypothesis in the book as a matter of fact. The premise is simple, our lives in 2021 have become too comfortable for our own good. Most of us are overly stimulated and unchallenged and it is messing with our psychology as humans. The book goes in depth on why modern day comforts are bad for us and how we can try and combat the negative effects that go along with constantly being comfortable and constantly having our brains being stimulated by something. The book makes a lot of sense and was an inspirational read for me. I'm applying some of the principles I've learned and putting them to work in 2022 (got my 2022 misogi all planned out!). Hopefully I can be strong and stick to my plan. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is feeling unfulfilled and looking to feel more content with their life (that probably applies to everyone lol).
My #1 life changing book so far HANDS DOWN is How to Win Friends and Influence People by: Dale Carnegie. Totally changed the way I interacted with everyone in my life in really positive ways. Thanks for a wonderful video :)
I'm glad the book worked for you, but that book was actually very harmful to me. I found it simplifiing too much of social interactions in life and when I tried to apply the teaching of the books into my life it just felt fake and superficial. It made me feel that it was because my method of connecting with others was wrong. And THIS is what you should be doing instead. That said, I do struggle with not sharing my real feelings and thoughts with people. And I often feel disconnected from the people that I had 'good' interaction with. It was only later that I realised the disconnect was not coming from me not being able to socialise with people. But me not being comfortable with sharing my real self (because of fear of judgements from others). So I would advise people to be careful when reading this book if you felt lonely and judged by others. Because the root of your problem might lies somewhere else that this book will not be able to help with.
Wow. How did it do that? I read that book. It was 95% bullshit like the rest of these books and the comments section regarding them. Say nice things to people and try to remember their names. There. I just saved anyone who wants to read that book 5 hours
"The Way of the Superior Man" was a game changer for me. Way beyond my love life. Honestly, it could be a great segway from the "Subtle Art of not Given a F***" given the nature of the message to always strive to feed that inner being. Stop letting the dusty, dirty, and weak men (thoughts) gain entry to the gate of your mind.
One of the books that made a big impression that I read in 2021 was Blessed Are The Weird by Jacob Norby. I love two things I wrote in my journal - * Weird people have always been the ones who paid attention to the beauty they felt inside and tried to do something with it after the rock bottom demands of existence were met. * The only success now is living and creating a work-of-art life unique, rich with meaning, naked of anything we don't care about and being ruthless about carving out something absolutely real from a world that has gorged itself on fakeness and become critically ill from it.
Speaking of being out of alignment with your identity, I'm in the middle of "The Way of Integrity." Which is about finding the way back to your true self. Proving to be a must read so far.
Chose this book for English class. I actually was engaged with the whole book and gave me a better understanding of whatever “meaning of life” means to someone

A Mind of Your Own by Kelly Brogan - I have heard great things about this book. It is how food and our own digestive system has such a big influence on our mind. A lot of what we eat can make us less or more depressed so I am looking forward to dive into this book.

Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself is one of my favorites, I've listened to the 18 hour audiobook two or three times. I recommend it to all of my personal training and coaching clients. I have many that I love and recommend, high on my list is You are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero. Another audiobook that I have listened to multiple times, I believe I just finished a fifth listen. I completely agree with you, read one book five times as opposed to five books one time, we learn through repetition. Thanks Clark!
I'm currently living with my parents and I disturb them all day by telling what I read everyday . I think unknowingly it is a great way to remember what you read. And now I’m currently about 80% through "Playbook to Millions by Grant Cardone. I have read a lot of entrepreneurial books and self improvement books, and this book is my absolute favorite. This book is extraordinary and really gets you to work extremely hard toward your goals in life and succeed at multiple different areas like personal finance, business and career. This is an absolute must buy if you need a push to get you going in business or you want more out of life.
A high proportion of self help books are either selling you an impossible dream or repackaging the messages of books you have already read and selling you that. Reading can be a preparatory act to doing, but it is not a substitute for it.
I loved Signature in the Cell by Stephen Meyer. This explains how amazing our DNA is the blueprint for creating our physical and conscience being. I especially recomment this to athiests because it will make them think.
These books are incredible and I recommend two others that will last you a lifetime. 1. Timeless Secrets of Health and Rejuvenation by Andreas Moritz. 2. Blink- The power of thinking without thinking by Malcom Gladwell.
“Be the designer of your world and not merely the consumer of it.” It's a nice quote from Atomic Habits. Another workbook I like is called 30 Days to Reduce Stress by Harper Daniels. It's a simple mindfulness program.
Bessel van der Kolk M.D. The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma is the book I want to read because I’ve gone through a lot of traumatic events that I believe have held me back and I want to understand it and learn how to apply ways to better/heal myself. I’ve tried therapy but I know that I’m very self-aware so something in me tells me that I need to look inside me instead of looking and asking for the answers of my problems
1. Yes. first book. I’m alive because of my kids. I must be there for them. 2nd book. I’m stuck. When I had my partner of 30; yrs I had my identity. He’s gone now…I’m still lost. Had to get a dog. 3rd book. Yes. Correct. 4th book. Yes to journaling. I’ve done it on and off all my life. It helps when I journal. I’m not disciplined anymore. 5. I’m a to do’er. Hard to do for myself. But I’m not an enabler or a caretaker. 6 th book..my son meditates…it has changed his life. I’ve owned my own true library for 30 years. Not saved paperbacks. It’s a very heavy hobby. Sold most of books to auction etc…now, because of book number 2 it’s hard for me to read. When I do..I consume 6-7 books. Then stop for a year. I have my like, 5 fav books I’ve read over and over, and I’m I’m a bibliophile…so I’ve been exposed. But I don’t even want to read those anymore. Hoping my dog will help me. You’re good to listen to. The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem was recommended to me in Human Element training and I'm reading it now. Also, the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People was very helpful for me.

Try the richest man of Babylon helps a lot on finding ways on getting out of debt and financial stability greatly explains how all of us are entitled to be financially stable but only a few can make it happen and it may be just you greatly recommend and also the art of communication life changing
The book that did it for me--a recovering hyper-critical self-abuser--is Dr. Christopher Germer's "The Mindful Path to Self-Compassion," because it focuses on forgiving yourself, practicing loving kindness and mindfulness through meditation and positive self-speak. It revolutionized my thought life and my inner dialogue. I actually learned to love myself unconditionally...and growing up in a hyper-critical environment with two self-defeating parents in a strict, Christian home? that was HUGE! Thanks for the recommends...hope this one helps some folks, too! (NOTE: I too was a slow starter and very anti-meditation, so there were many practical applications in the book that I just skipped over the first read back in 2012).
I finished it a few weeks ago too. It was excellent. I started with Haidt's 'The Righteous Mind' several years ago (I know, read in wrong order) and it really changed the way I see the world and process interactions from family dinners to last year's election. The best part is that I see this book's positive influence on my life constantly growing as time goes by -- that's something very few books have ever done for me.

Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss is a great read on negotiation! Not just in business, but in many aspects of life to help you get what you want. It's very readable and entertaining too.
I watched your synopsis of atomic habits, took notes, wrote out a plan and implemented all the changes the next day. I felt so good by the end of the day I continued the pattern the next. That was a month ago. The past 30 days my mood, mental health, relationships and overall life has dramatically transformed. Self development books are amazing tools if actually APPLIED! I got a lot out of "Atomic Habits", but also "The Power of Habit" by Charles Duhigg. As for the science and practicality of meditation, Dan Harris's "10% Happier" and "Meditation for the Fidgety Skeptic" were great reads (and, at times, hilarious).
"Never Split The Difference" by Chris Voss. Learn to use the phrase "that doesn't work for me." What an adventure. Rarely does a book combine great principles with a compelling story.
The way Hidden Time Wealth dives into the concept of productivity is mind-blowing. Hidden Time Wealth tips are pure gold, and I wish more people knew about them.
"Loving Was Is" by Katie Byron was very good. One statement that really hit me was, "Stop attaching emotion to thought!" Wow!!!! Think about it. This ability frees one from destructive thinking.
Hidden Time Wealth is so unique. I can’t believe I hadn’t heard about it sooner. It’s amazing how life-changing this can be for anyone battling procrastination.
The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. My therapist suggested me to read it in a rithm of 1 page/day and it was my second readind ...it worked with me, I realised from this that we also need the time to digest the information we recieve, eventhoug the curiosity for more information is big and we want everything now.
Atomic Habits is by far my favorite book I've read in the past few years. One to tag along with it would be "Start With Why" by Simon Sinek. It dives into the bullseye of what you mentioned with Atomic Habits about finding your "why"

You should check out Psycho-cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz(1960). It seem this book was the inspiration for Atomic Habits

Tip: Create a Notion database with all the knowledge you find on books, podcasts, movies, videos, etc. That would be like your brain and you could always have that knowledge at your disposal. When you write stuff you remember it easily. But organize and tag it well. Then create a database of all your projects and ideas and apply that knowledge

the first one is absolutely true. i thought I was depressed because of college and quit, it was my worst mistake ever, I spent a year doing absolutely nothing and it was miserable, the worst year ever. Now im in college, in the gym, playing football at saturdays, reading books and although I have a lot more "responsabilities" I can get a lot more done than when I had nothing to do, It's weird, but I'm way happier now, I feel a bit more useful.

My husband and I used to watch Netflix in the evenings but he asked me once which was the best way to learn more English vocabulary and I said reading, you will expand your vocabulary that way. Now we read together in the evenings reading a chapter each. Its been great as we discuss what we have been reading whether its non fiction or fiction. He went from having one book to a little library of books and he told me the other day how much he loves reading now and how much he has learnt. He recently bought Atomic Habits, we have only just started reading it, it's a really great book! ❤😊

"The Righteous Mind" also by Jonathan Hadit is by far my favorite book by him. It could almost be called "How Your Mind Works" or "Why You Think the Way You Do". I'll recommend something another coach said several years ago and it was so simple but still an outstanding idea, read a fictional book to learn something. There are some great books that are fiction but can still teach you something you need to know, there are some fictional characters who's main trait is discipline, some can teach you about the grind, some how to take care of your well being and not stress. Don't be too hung up on the form, if its a 1000 pages book by a famous author or a couple of pages comic, as long as it can teach its good.

I agree with reading one book 5 times over 5 books 1 time - each pass brings in new detail and things can indeed be missed the first 4 times. Also many interconnected ideas become way more apparent on that 2nd pass!
The point you were making about the very first book makes SO much sense during the pandemic.. I hate zoom classes but the second I have nothing to do is when I truly feel miserable. So ultimately I'm happy I go to college even during this time because its so much better than having no obligations at all

The best read so far in my life was "The Life‑Changing Magic of Tidying Up" by Marie Kondo! No jokes, that helps a ton not only with decluttering your home, but also your mind and for being a kinder person to yourself. I had a terrible habit of being a hoarder and wasn't allowing myself to let go of stuff, but Marie's book helped me greatly to change my mindset. It works like a magic :D
HIGHLY Suggest “The Elephant In the Brain” by Robin Hanson.
Understanding why brains are motivated at a fundamental level really helped me start seeing the systems of humanity and understand why people behave as they do.

'Losing Control Finding Serenity' by Daniel A Miller is the BEST book I've ever read. I never realised how much controlling behaviours run our lives. If you struggle with anxiety and stress especially it can be a life changer.

Man's search for meaning - amazing legendary book.
The Comfort Crisis by Michael Easter was the most impactful book that I read in 2021. The author actually references The Happiness Hypothesis in the book as a matter of fact. The premise is simple, our lives in 2021 have become too comfortable for our own good. Most of us are overly stimulated and unchallenged and it is messing with our psychology as humans. The book goes in depth on why modern day comforts are bad for us and how we can try and combat the negative effects that go along with constantly being comfortable and constantly having our brains being stimulated by something. The book makes a lot of sense and was an inspirational read for me. I'm applying some of the principles I've learned and putting them to work in 2022 (got my 2022 misogi all planned out!). Hopefully I can be strong and stick to my plan. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is feeling unfulfilled and looking to feel more content with their life (that probably applies to everyone lol).
My #1 life changing book so far HANDS DOWN is How to Win Friends and Influence People by: Dale Carnegie. Totally changed the way I interacted with everyone in my life in really positive ways. Thanks for a wonderful video :)

I'm glad the book worked for you, but that book was actually very harmful to me. I found it simplifiing too much of social interactions in life and when I tried to apply the teaching of the books into my life it just felt fake and superficial. It made me feel that it was because my method of connecting with others was wrong. And THIS is what you should be doing instead.
That said, I do struggle with not sharing my real feelings and thoughts with people. And I often feel disconnected from the people that I had 'good' interaction with. It was only later that I realised the disconnect was not coming from me not being able to socialise with people. But me not being comfortable with sharing my real self (because of fear of judgements from others).
So I would advise people to be careful when reading this book if you felt lonely and judged by others. Because the root of your problem might lies somewhere else that this book will not be able to help with.

"The Way of the Superior Man" was a game changer for me. Way beyond my love life. Honestly, it could be a great segway from the "Subtle Art of not Given a F***" given the nature of the message to always strive to feed that inner being. Stop letting the dusty, dirty, and weak men (thoughts) gain entry to the gate of your mind.

One of the books that made a big impression that I read in 2021 was Blessed Are The Weird by Jacob Norby. I love two things I wrote in my journal -
* Weird people have always been the ones who paid attention to the beauty they felt inside and tried to do something with it after the rock bottom demands of existence were met.
* The only success now is living and creating a work-of-art life unique, rich with meaning, naked of anything we don't care about and being ruthless about carving out something absolutely real from a world that has gorged itself on fakeness and become critically ill from it.

Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself is one of my favorites, I've listened to the 18 hour audiobook two or three times. I recommend it to all of my personal training and coaching clients. I have many that I love and recommend, high on my list is You are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero. Another audiobook that I have listened to multiple times, I believe I just finished a fifth listen. I completely agree with you, read one book five times as opposed to five books one time, we learn through repetition. Thanks Clark!

I'm currently living with my parents and I disturb them all day by telling what I read everyday . I think unknowingly it is a great way to remember what you read. And now I’m currently about 80% through "Playbook to Millions by Grant Cardone. I have read a lot of entrepreneurial books and self improvement books, and this book is my absolute favorite. This book is extraordinary and really gets you to work extremely hard toward your goals in life and succeed at multiple different areas like personal finance, business and career. This is an absolute must buy if you need a push to get you going in business or you want more out of life.
A high proportion of self help books are either selling you an impossible dream or repackaging the messages of books you have already read and selling you that. Reading can be a preparatory act to doing, but it is not a substitute for it.
I loved Signature in the Cell by Stephen Meyer. This explains how amazing our DNA is the blueprint for creating our physical and conscience being. I especially recomment this to athiests because it will make them think.

Hard to do for myself. But I’m not an enabler or a caretaker. 6 th book..my son meditates…it has changed his life.
I’ve owned my own true library for 30 years. Not saved paperbacks. It’s a very heavy hobby. Sold most of books to auction etc…now, because of book number 2 it’s hard for me to read. When I do..I consume 6-7 books. Then stop for a year.
I have my like, 5 fav books I’ve read over and over, and I’m I’m a bibliophile…so I’ve been exposed. But I don’t even want to read those anymore.

The book that did it for me--a recovering hyper-critical self-abuser--is Dr. Christopher Germer's "The Mindful Path to Self-Compassion," because it focuses on forgiving yourself, practicing loving kindness and mindfulness through meditation and positive self-speak. It revolutionized my thought life and my inner dialogue. I actually learned to love myself unconditionally...and growing up in a hyper-critical environment with two self-defeating parents in a strict, Christian home? that was HUGE! Thanks for the recommends...hope this one helps some folks, too! (NOTE: I too was a slow starter and very anti-meditation, so there were many practical applications in the book that I just skipped over the first read back in 2012).
I am reading "the happiness hypothesis" and it is truly eye opening.
I finished it a few weeks ago too. It was excellent. I started with Haidt's 'The Righteous Mind' several years ago (I know, read in wrong order) and it really changed the way I see the world and process interactions from family dinners to last year's election. The best part is that I see this book's positive influence on my life constantly growing as time goes by -- that's something very few books have ever done for me.

"Never Split The Difference" by Chris Voss. Learn to use the phrase "that doesn't work for me." What an adventure. Rarely does a book combine great principles with a compelling story.

My therapist suggested me to read it in a rithm of 1 page/day and it was my second readind ...it worked with me, I realised from this that we also need the time to digest the information we recieve, eventhoug the curiosity for more information is big and we want everything now.
