    Im buying it. The no expandable storage isnt a deal breaker for me (coming from iphone, plus unlimited pic+vid storage anyway), the headphone jack missing is annoying but the iphone doesnt have it either plus it comes with a dongle and i use bluetooth anyway, i don't use or care about wireless charging. So that just leaves a pretty kickass android phone with a great camera and fast updates for me.

      Me too - it's got a great battery, stock android, superb camera, FF speakers, unlocked, and great display. Not sure what the hell else there is in a great phone. I'm not poor, so I don't need a headphone jack.

      Alex Schwartz Having had both a 128gb 6P and Pixel XL, I know that is plenty of storage for me. Add in the unlimited storage for photos, and you'll never miss not having expandable storage.

      atl3630 Don't be a douchebag. Equating social status to this phone's *pathetic* lack of a headphone jack is an absurd argument -- not to mention an inexcusable move by Google, given that they made fun of Apple last year over this -- and you know it.
      I'm not rich but I'm certainly not destitute, and I had Bluetooth headsets as far back as 2004 -- and they SUCKED. And it wasn't just the poor audio quality, or the fact that it was one MORE thing I had to remember to charge. It was the fact that in both cases, I dropped them ONCE on a hard surface and they broke.
      I've dropped or banged wired earbuds plenty of times and they work just fine. In fact, the only issue I've ever had with regular headsets is water damage (my fault, no doubt).
      So remind us again why anyone should pay extra for flimsy plastic shit with shit audio quality that has to be charged after maybe 3-4 hours of use at best ??

      WIth that unlimited photo/video storage I have yet to use half of my storage on my 6P. You just don't realize how little things like that make such a huge difference over time. One of the reasons I am sticking with Google and getting the Pixel 2 next.

    I’m getting the smaller model, and after hearing so many people talk about the bezels I decided to check it out at Verizon stores. I’m switching from iPhone so the bezels don’t bother me one bit, but I’m guessing it’s because I’m used to that look. For tech reviewers, they’re used to all other phones and I don’t see why the bezels are such a big deal. I’m buying this phone because I want stock android with updates right away. I would never buy a phone just for bezels.

    I will be buying it. Having a fluid experience and great battery life for a full year with no exceptions on my original Google pixel really makes the biggest difference! And most people will never be able to tell you how much that really matters until they chose to actually use it. The reality of using this device and almost never realizing how much it changed your life is incredible. It just works as the commercial say.

    Think it's become pretty clear that your don't buy a Pixel for hardware. You buy a Pixel for the software experience and the hardware just makes it go...
    Not making excuses, but... Expandable storage can become corrupt and then you're fucked. You have unlimited FREE storage in Google photos and who doesn't stream music these days??
    No headphone jack? Eh, I really don't think it's a big deal unless you switch between 3-4 different pairs of headphones... I'll use the dongle in my car and Bluetooth when not in my car...
    As far as bezels. Man, it is what it is... You're getting front facing speakers with those bezels and at least you're getting an OLED panel unlike the iPhone... With as much UA-cam as I watch, I'm sure I'm going to appreciate those speakers!
    Again, you don't buy a Pixel for hardware... You buy a Pixel for software. And the software on this thing looks fantastic! Not to mention, of course, that incredible looking camera!

    • @KellyMcWilliams
      @KellyMcWilliams 7 років тому +5

      Shawn G I agree. I've never understood why having a SD card slot is a desirable feature to have in a modern phone. I appreciate the ability to transfer my media via Drive or equivalent. Expandable storage hasn't been a needed feature in about 4 years -- at least for me. Especially since Photos auto backs up. Truthfully, I can't even imagine using a SD card anymore. Seems so... antiquated.
      The bezels. Well sure, I would've liked the top and bottom bezels reduced ever so slightly, but they are definitely not deal breakers. The phone looks great either way.
      Headphone jack. This'll definitely be an adjustment, but I think I'll manage. I literally have two things that use the headphone jack, and I'll just keep the dongle attached to the cord. Problem solved.
      Even though I disagree on pretty much everything that was said in this video, I still enjoy TechnoBuffalo and their reviews. I'll be keeping my preorder!

    • @mplovecraft
      @mplovecraft 7 років тому +3

      I get that it's mainly for the software. But the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 were all about the software as well and half the price. If you are paying this much the hardware should be up to par as well. When it comes to the SD card I think they stated that they wouldn't have an SD card in any Nexus phone so I guess the same would go for the Pixel line. As for the jack - just put one in there and make everyone (quiet and) happy. It doesn't offend the people that don't care and makes the rest satisfied.

    • @PlaylistsFromMars
      @PlaylistsFromMars 6 років тому +1

      Upvoted, but a big caveat: just like Active Edge, it's actually an HTC influenced choice not LG... Remember the old HTC One lineup, front firing speakers, and "BoomSound"?

    • @AyySorento
      @AyySorento 6 років тому

      Yeah I remember that. Back then though HTC software wasn't all that great and I ended up with a different phone but boom sound back then was fantastic. I mainly just said LG since they adopted that feature this year similar how Huawei adopted it in the Nexus 6P.

    • @ChristopherEdwards0
      @ChristopherEdwards0 7 років тому

      Well, by stock they mean also if the code is added to aosp. That's what gives developers access to the features that make android, android. Like the always listening music thing, that's exclusive to Google and isn't in the AOSP

    • @richbrown932
      @richbrown932 7 років тому +1

      That's not the definition of stock Android. Stock Android means this is the basic framework that Google provides to all manufacturers for them to build on top of. If Google has exclusive things that are not provided for use in other phones, those elements are not "stock."

    The S8 looks beautiful. Although, the difference between the models in store vs someone who's been using it for months really shows. The S8 doesn't feel as smooth as the Pixel 1. My friend's Pixel 1 is STILL fast and smooth. Honestly, that's what convinced me to now but the pixel 2 (coming from note 4, which is super slow now). I value guaranteed updates and stock Android more than anything else.

    I'm seriously considering switching from my iPhone 7 Plus to the Pixel 2 XL. After iOS 11 dropped, my iPhone was completely trash. Nothing worked constantly and for 2 weeks before any sort of beta fix came. Thus I lost faith in Apple's quality control. I would be up for the iPhone X 10 but the face ID turns me off big time and I feel like Apple has lost its WHY. No future vision, stuck in the Steve Jobs iPhone 6 design.

    When describing the pixel we should understand that it is more than just features. Checking off a wish list of must-haves for the latest smartphone and then arguing if it doesn't have all of these and it's not worth the money is not who the phone is being marketed to. The average consumer does not buy a phone because of a bunch of features they will never use. They buy a phone because of the experience. And the experience is why the Google pixel phones stand head-and-shoulders above the other Android devices. And with the recent bugs of iOS 11 Google is in a perfect place to offer a phone with the most fluid and consistent experience. And the biggest selling point is not even the phone itself but the AI.

    I order the Pixel 2XL because I'm probably won't have a chance getting an iPhone X this year. My current phone is dying and I'm not waiting until 2018. Also while it implies it's a constellation prize, it's the best stock android phone on the market. iPhone 8 Plus is the second best Apple phone on the market so it's 2x the constellation effect.

      Matthew Miller the Note 8 is a beautiful phone. But being an Android user and a guy who doesn't buy a new phone every year. The 3 year guaranteed support and update better suits me and won't have me feeling stuck in 2017.

    • @Sharky165
      @Sharky165 7 років тому +3

      First off, it's "consolation prize", not "constellation" 🤔😂
      Secondly, you would be much better off IMO with the Samsung Note 8, Galaxy S8+, or LG V30. If it's software updates you're concerned about, both Sammy and LG typically provide them for at least 2 years -- and you can always Root your device after that if you're still in love with it and don't want to upgrade.
      Whereas you'll most DEF feel "stuck in 2017" two or three years from now hardware-wise, with that already-dated Pixel 2 look. Just my $0.02 and a different perspective, FWIW...

    • @Mack-io3uv
      @Mack-io3uv 7 років тому +2

      Sharky165 yeah man I love my note it's an amazing phone! If your planning on keeping the phone for awhile I would get the iPhone x or 8 plus If I was you due to the fact the a 11 chip offers the best performance so it should age very well.

      @Sharky165 7 років тому

      Matthew Miller Well don't get me started on iPhones -- they have some of the *worst* designs for the $$$, IMO. LOL
      You made a great choice with your Note. I'm a Note 5 owner myself and am considering upgrading in the near future.
      I will concede that iPhone performance is very fast and smooth, and 📷 quality overall is very good. 😁 I just couldn't deal with the stale, boring OS and lack of customization anymore, which is why I switched to Android 2 years ago.

    I just received my Pixel 2 XL and I am absolutely loving it!! the blue screen just isn't visible unless you make the scrreen look a certain way so it shows up. but day to day use it is vitually non-existent. i have all the software updates and I tried satuation and vivid boost and natural and i have been keeping it on natural. maybe the update fixxed something but i love it. doesn't seem muted to me. and saturation mode isn't quite as saturated as the samsungs but I still prefer the so called muted colors. burn in will have to wait and see. maybe the update will fix it and maybe not. but I've only had it 2 days and there is none...but i have to give a week or so...i am so glad i bought this phone!!!

    I've be using the Pixel 2 since 10/18. It's light years ahead of my old phone the LG G5. The OS is super responsive and it has front firing stereo speakers. Not having a headphone jack doesn't bother me because I only use BT NC headphones. My wife has camera envy now and she has the S8. The design could be better but I put all my phone's in a case. The screen is nice but the bezels are huge. I've been waiting for a pure Android experience since I traded in my Nexus 4 for a Note 4. After experiencing both Samsung and LG I will most likely stick with Google. Oh yeah no more waiting for software updates.

  • @AlexGomez1226
    @AlexGomez1226 7 років тому +12

    Key facts he complained about that irked me:
    - Auto-brightness. (come on, for real?)
    - Bezels (then buy the bigger one, he forgives the bezels on the iphone 8 review)
    - Stock android (then stick with the original pixel, the pixel phones are for people who want google features first)
    - the UI/launcher (but then mentions you can change it with other launchers in the play store, at this point android phones should not even be reviewed because of their launchers since it's so easy to change, dont under stand why android phones get criticized for this and yet iphone sticks with the same UI for years and they get away with it)
    Watch the iphone 8 review, he complains about similar things but is more positive about the iphone 8. If that's not bias then I don't know what is.

      To me, he is being fair. If I have to pay that much for a flagship phone and other flagship phones are around the same range, then it really gets down to the nitty gritty in terms of features right out of the box. Not sure if everyone cares about this, but I do as an average consumer (not tech savvy).

    • @PlaylistsFromMars
      @PlaylistsFromMars 6 років тому

      Yet it's extremely misleading because he is totally reducing the sublimely smooth software experience that you will be *guaranteed* to not get on another Android manufacturer's reskinned phone. There's a reason all the other reviewers' videos are glowing -- and you see a sizeable amount of actual people in the comments who switched from the iPhone to the Pixel, and not other flagship phones. Hell, The Verge's editor in chief switched from being a longtime iPhone user to the Pixel -- and won't accept any other Android phone as his daily driver.

      Alex Gomez The iPhone 8 is $50 more expensive yet...has a 750p LCD screen (ridiculous and inexcusable in a 2017/2018) smartphone and has an inferior camera array than it's plus counterpart. The Pixel 2 has a 1080p OLED screen and has an identical camera array to it's XL counterpart, WAY better camera array than the iPhone 8. The iPhone 8 has headphones in the box but doesn't have fast charging in the box. The Pixel 2 has fast charging in the box but no headphones. They both have large bezels..the iPhone 8 for a fingerprint scanner, the Pixel 2 for front facing speakers. The only thing the iPhone 8 has the Pixel 2 doesn't is wireless charging..but the Pixel 2 has the squeezable sides (hardware differentiators here)… The Pixel 2 costs $50 less than the iPhone 8. I'm sorry but the Pixel 2 is hands down the winner here. The iPhone 8 is not worth the money in the slightest

    Interesting how TB and Android Central have different take on the screen quality. Android Central points out the shift in colour on the Pixel 2 XL when viewing in different angles, as well as the loss of detail in dark content.

    The lack of a headphone jack is incredibly disappointing, and I really hate this technology trend. Unlike other technologies that fade out, I can see ZERO benefit for the customer here. But the other big disappointment for me is that camera sensor. Why is it smaller than the original Pixel and the Nexus 5x/6P?! Totally negates the larger aperture size...

    • @SpektrikMusic

      Peter Tollan does sensor size matter if it produces better image? A Canon 80D has better image quality over a 5D MK1 and it's sensor is smaller.

      I agree with the headphonejack. They should have included usb c or Bluetooth headphones and they should have had a reason to do it. I've just read what replaced the headphone jack hole in the iPhone 7. Some Kind of water pressure Regulation System so it can get ip67. This is not an excuse to get rid of the headphone jack if Samsung can get ip68 with headphone jack.

    Good video but general negative tone as Jon is clearly disappointed they didn't include one of the 3 missing features (expandable storage, wireless charging, headphone jack). For me having a Pixel XL, it comes down to two major reasons to upgrade: Going from 32GB to 64GB and being water resistant. Both are worth the upgrade. Expandable storage isn't needed anymore with cloud storage and Google Photos unlimited storage. My Nexus 6 had wireless charging and I rarely used it. The headphone jack missing is disappointing but tolerable. The Pixel 2 XL is a great phone and I cannot wait to get it!

      Nah everyone is bashing the IPhone X right now and Pixel 2 is losing its praise. One Plus 5T and the Note 8 are getting all the praise. Honestly, That's kind of messed up because it is the words of the UA-camrs that could really impact the consumer to choose what they want to. Honestly I feel that the Tech UA-camrs are exaggerating minimal issues. Ip67 instead of ip68 should not be a deal breaker, yet they still bring that up. I really am disappointed with the UA-camrs. I enjoy when they all have something different to say, yet now everyone is reviewing the same phones at the same time, saying the same things. Heck, some even just say the things they say to please the fanbase of Android users or Apple users so that their videos don't go down in likes. I really feel that we should all come to a decision ourselves without the use of an outside influence.

    Jon, I always love your reviews and always wanna know what you have to say. But this has been the worst review you have done by far. I honestly think you nitpicked minor little things about the phone(s) that yeah sure are nuisances, but they're minor in comparison on what the phone offers.

    • @TheElectricGhost
      @TheElectricGhost 7 років тому +3

      Anthony Aquino when phones are getting as good as they are, they have to nit-pick. Virtually nothing is wrong with the pixel outside of people's preferences. People could say that the headphone jack is important, and I'd argue that it is except the dac in the of pixel was trash and everyone (mostly everyone) called it out. It was basically there to be there and now that it was removed on the pixel 2. People are complaining about it, despite the fact they would complain if it was trash again.
      Again, that's just one example of the preferences people are having for phones nowadays because everything that comes out has the same specs, almost the same awesome camera, good to great battery life, beautiful 1080p or 2k screens, etc. The only thing left to differentiate phones is the look, the price, and storage options along with the famed brand loyalty.
      A year are two back I saw a review, I don't remember which channel it was on, but the guy literally says he has to nit-pick because phones are just that good now that there's just nothing major left to truly complain about outside of his personal preference. That being said, sorry for the paragraphs, but I just wanted to explain some of his reasoning.

    So I just noticed something that no one had probably noticed before. I had the original pixel on night mode which give it a warmer tone to the display, when I titled it I notice a blue tint happen on the display, just like the one on the pixel 2 XL. So I honestly don't think that the blue shift everyone is complaining about is due to hardware issues, it might just be the color toning Google decided to go with. If you have an original pixel try it out.

      You pointed out some very good points but I would recommend you to go and watch the review of the previous generation pixel phones. There hardware sucks but the software integration and the camera was so good that people were still buying it. Now let’s come to the iPhone X would you mind that notch on top which will hide your video content? Can you give up fingerprint scanner for some weird faceID which faild to unlock the iPhone on the live event? And I think this whole AR thing will be as useless as VR is today. There is a whole community online which will make custom roms for the pixel phones even When the iPhone X will not get any updates and the whole face emojis thing is also a gimmick compared to the now playing feature of the pixel. Let’s be honest who uses there phone of 5 years. I think now is the right time for an iPhone user to get the pixel xl and maybe switch back to the next generation iPhones when they come in 2018. Thanks for taking your time and replying appreciate it.

    Thank you with talking positive about the 2 XL's screen. A lot of other UA-camrs are saying it's not good. Also, thanks for mentioning that UA-cam plays in full screen on the XL. I definitely am picking one up because I loved the nexus 6p and getting updates instantly. Plus the other 2 big factors for me are camera and speakers. This seems to have the best package of all 3.
    I had an S8 for 5 months and it started stuttering and slowing down despite having a 128gb extreme SD inside. Wasn't impressed with the camera, and didn't like the mono speaker. But the feel of the phone was great. Now it's time for the XL. Been considering the V30 as well. But does it check the updates, speaker and camera categorys that are important to me.

    Absolutely the worst review I watched all day. This reviewer along with his forgettable name only spoke on the bad which isn't really bad just personal preference. This guy is spoiled by samsung and iphone's bezelless ( actually isn't bezelless) display. I heard nothing about performance just preference I'll wait for a real review to come out from MKBHD he is the guy for reviews. I'll be getting the pixel 2 xl due to it's experience it looks like my Nexus 6P just up to date. The Pixel has unmatched performance android wise I would love someone to argue that. While this guy is using either the samsung or lg devices ( who's software experience slows down over updates and only is at hardware show off) I will rock my pixel 2 xl (gets better with each update and if there is a problem it's fixed quickly). Last point for those who continue to speak on wireless charging/fast wireless charging it is useless compare to having a cord perform fast charging plus I can still use my phone on a cord. 2017 has killed smart phone now people buy them for looks and not the experience....Bezelless 2017 more like Thin Bezels 2017......

    As for why I got a pixel 2 instead of any of the other phones on the market? I'm a big fan of Android. The last iPhone I owned was the 4. Every Android I've used has started to slow down or start over heating after about half a year of use (I haven't kept the same phone for longer than 6 months in I don't know how long) and almost never get newer versions of android except the pixel I'm using right now so that's why I got it. I don't mind not having the headphone jack I've got plenty of headphones that are Bluetooth and I would love to see a usb c version of something like the audeze sine like they have a lightning version.

    Software is everything and this phone has the software that others don't , plus it's the most smooth Android phone out there ,it's the only phone that will give apple a true battle except it's only the second and already the software has gotten this good also guarantee 3yrs of updates it's a no brainier , no other manufacturer will give u 3years and my original pixel XL even a year latter is still smooth as butter I can't say the same for my Samsung or LG that the difference . What got apple to where it got was it's software and they have strayed away from that and are now a hardware company , Google is a software company , alot of people for get but apple depends on iPhones to succeed it's 90% of there company, googles pixel and Android is a side job , and it's doing this well imagine if it sink more also no one seems to metion how many the auto translate feature ,with pixel buds , everyone is so stuck on a good look phone that's going to be in a case instead of actual functionally and that where pixel tops all it's loaded with things u will use not care about looks , and the fact that it's not all glass is great because it means I don't have to have a case with the exception of top back but I do need a tempered glass also it's extremely light so impact should be much less , I'm truly excited what Google is doing a full AI phone not an eye candy phone that in a year will need to be replaced , also by making most of the phone software it can continue to get better over time

    oh my god, this bezel crying is SO annoying. WHO CARES WHAT A PHONE LOOKS LIKE? if you're that vain that you feel you'll be judged because of your bezels, you need serious psychological help. Christ almighty.

      You do you, other people would rather not pay $700 for a phone so ugly. Especially when that design and hardware is lacking when compared to most flagships this year.

    • @scourned7
      @scourned7 7 років тому +4

      I don’t get it either. Most flagships had bezels just last year and now that Samsung and LG kicked off this “bezeless” revolution and now if a device has even a hint more bezel people bitch about. And when every phone adopts this design the tech media and the UA-cam comment section will complain about how there’s lack of “game changing” design. That’s how plastic was phased out as build material and now that most phones are made of glass and aluminum some are complaining about how that is nothing special now. It’s a never ending cycle and it’s really fucking annoying and it’s one of the many reasons I have been unsubscribing alot of theses tech channels like this one.

      We're Humans. We create a false sense of beauty and we expect everything to go by that fake standard. If its off-looking, its declared ugly. I really dont understand what is the big deal. This big sceen trend is a 2017 thing. Many companies couldn't anticipate this, but that doesn't make that phone any less powerful thaan its competitors

    I pre-ordered it and am not cancelling. Software experience and updates, more than solid camera with little thought required, and a large screen/battery are why. Speakers, AI, etc. are a nice bonus. No wireless charging stings but I'll manage. I'm fine with storage as is and no headphone jack. But that's me :)

      LamboPlays Sure it is, stop buying into the overhyped "lag" myths. Nearly all tech reviewers have given Sammy high marks for Experience UI (formerly TouchWiz) on its 2017 devices for its lack of lag and obtrusiveness.
      And, if you still really hate it, you can always change to a different Launcher, or Root to eliminate it altogether.

    I've gone for a Pixel 2 XL, coming from S7 Edge. Have to say I've kept the S7 Edge for longer than I've had any phone since the Iphone 3g, phones have got really good. I do want something new and even though my Samsung is still decent I've come to realise that I've become totally entwined with the google ecosystem, and not because of a storefront like when I was using apple products - just because I find everything really convenient. I'm finding myself relying on chrome to mesh my email, browsing and youtube - I didn't even realise I was using gmail so much until one day when I couldn't remember when I last booted up my outlook. I've recently bought the home and the wifi and its all really easy and "just works" in a way that seems amazing like apple products used to be after years of windows 95. I think that the software is really interesting and I'm happy to move to streaming music and video and use bluetooth headphones so the downsides are not really an issue for me, I did go for the 128gb version to store some local content but I'm sure the 64gb would have been equally fine. As far as the competition is concerned it seems to me the other android phones have some sort of compromise in terms of software (bloated/slow updates/ugly ui) or hardware and apple phones just appear dated and expensive after several years of the same design.

    • @Lucas-tg3hv
      @Lucas-tg3hv 6 років тому

      I don't think it could be any uglier simply sliming the bezels a tad bit and making a physical home button would literally so easily make a similar design way better

    I have the Note 8 but getting the Pixel XL 2 to see which one I like best. I went back to the OG Pixel after my S8, and I had forgotten how Google gets things right. Their phones give an extremely fluid experience, and they are good at what you need a phone to do. And the 📷 so far has been impressing all the reviewers I have read. Wireless charging, not a big deal. No headphone jack, a bigger deal but I just moved to Bluetooth headphones anyway. The price is a bit high for what you get though, my Note 8 came with headphones, a wireless charger, and a 128GB memory card, all included for free as a Samsung promotion. Even though the Note 8 is more expensive, when you add the value of the freebies, it's a great deal.

    I wanted one last year, but I couldn't quite get myself over the giant chin with no function, and the lack of waterproofing compared to the iPhone 7 plus. They fixed both issues this year, as well as improving everything else about it, that was enough to win me over!

    The main reason I'm buying the the Pixel is because there's really no gimmicks. Everything Google added is to make the little things better and more convenient. Everything is just really smooth and modern.

    I have ordered the Panda Pixel 2 xl. Should arrive in next few weeks. I'm a bit upset about all the negative press about screen, but my impression is that most users would not be bothered by it and aside from blue shift, most issues are largely the tech media piling on and hopping on the slam wagon. If I don't like, I'll return and move on, but I love these pixel phones for lack of bloatware and timely updates. One of the few places you can get nice sort of trendy hardware without carrier or manufacturer junk in Android world, so I will probably always be pixel guy until someone else can match that experience with better hardware.

    Im sticking with the V30, it has a lot of things the pixel 2 is missing. that I would expect with a $880 phone, like a 2 year warranty, 600mhz LTE, IP86, Quad ESS DAC, wireless charging (I can dig out all of my qi charges from the nexus 6 days) headphone jack, dual cameras with better software to process the pics/vids and nice slim bezels. I will miss the stereo speakers.

    Picking up the Pixel 2XL and iPhone X. Never owned an android device before and switching from an iPhone 6S Plus. Obviously not keeping both but all my information is done through Google on iOS anyways and just really looking for a great camera. Plus Google is tossing in the Google home mini which is a pretty cool incentive and we don't get AirPods with the iPhone X. However if the iPhone X shipping timeframe is backed even at 2am on preorder night say through to December that might be just enough to stick with the Pixel 2XL for 2018.

    I would understand the complaint re: expandable storage if not for the qualifiers re: google drive/photo. I cannot imagine filling 128 GB. I can't really imagine using half that. But, I'll try! My phone delivers tomorrow.

    Every pixel 2 video dings the phones lack of wireless charging. I had an S6 and never used the feature. And the always on for music? How is that even a selling point?
    None of the reviews talk about the responsiveness of the software.
    Btw. I did buy it
