Rolling the soles of your feet over a tennis ball for a couple of minutes before stretching the hamstrings helps to release them. Try it and see the difference. Also once you reach what you feel is your maximum stretch, take a deep breath and on the release stretch a tiny bit further and surrender into it. Your body will release a bit more with the sigh. You can do this with any stretch.
ah that's it! i've been focusing too much on my hamstrings and not my hip abductor. i guess i'll add some hip stretches to my routine and then attempt side splits :)
You mentioned on one of your videos I watched recently that you’re 5’ and I just wanted to say that it’s really refreshing to see someone my same height/build teaching yoga. I’d love to see videos about your experience as a petite yogi, your favorite petite athletic wear brands, and even how you eat day-to-day to maintain your fitness! Also curious if you primarily do yoga for exercise or if you add lifting or anything. Love your peaceful, relaxed style of teaching!! Looking forward to trying out one of your flows soon
Hello and thank you for your comment. Honestly being petite hasn’t changed my practice all that much as far as I’m aware (I wouldn’t know any different). As for petite brands I don’t know of any specifically but I love that a lot of brands do 7/8 leggings because the standard size is way too long for me 😂 as for food I eat quite healthy, without restriction. I like 3 decent meals a day and that works for me. For exercise I mix in yoga, mobility and some body weight exercises.
How much time did it take you to even reach the level of 1 yoga block? I am currently on one yoga block at its highest setting 😂😂😂 Anything beyond that I feel my body will tear into half 😂
Do you think it's true what they say that some people will never be able to achieve the middle splits due to the shape of their hip sockets or bone anatomy?
Yes I do agree with this. If there is bone on bone compression then there’s no working around that. You can’t push past bone so some people will have a limit whereas others will be able to go all the way.
This is called femoroacetabular impingement, or hip impingement. 3 types: Cam, pincer, and combined. I have pincer type, it looks like a shelf of the extra bone on my hip joint on MRI & xray. It hits into the top of my femur when I try doing a split. Some of us physically cannot do a split no matter how flexible we are.
Make sure when you’re doing your splits don’t have your back foot tucked because you’re not going all the way down to your split if you’re back foot is tucked in
So finally i achieved my front split in 45 day or 1.5 month and my age is 20 years old but if you think you can do also this in that much time let me tell you u have been train yoga for 3 times in 3 years and for 15 to 25 days and give up but this time i improves my plan ans achieve my split in 1.5 month But here is a key I train through a professional yoga routine for each muscle hamstring ,quad and glutes and i do the exercise for 1.5 hour in one session and twice a day means around 3 hour of training in a day for 45 days And also al exersise trained with full intensity 🎉😅
That told us absolutely nothing about how to continue making progress for our splits. All you did was explain to us the definition of reciprocal inhibition.
Thank you for your observation. The point of this video was the get people to change their perspective on the splits being all about the hamstrings and get them to see that the thing that might be preventing them from making progress is their lack of focus on the hip flexors.
You can’t over do it. It takes time to gain strength and flexibility in your muscles. Allow your body to recover before you start back stretching intensively
Honestly without seeing your practice/body I couldn’t make an educated guess. If you send me a message on Instagram with a video or photo of your practice I’d be happy to offer some advice. My insta is Ch3rlieflow
I've been practicing doing splits for around 2 years, and hadnt made any progress, whenever i trie i cannot bend my knees, i can but it would feel weird, probably cause i hadnt strached lroperly. I cant even do a butterfly position properly.
That's not true, although it is something you will hear people say a lot, because they've heard it from someone. Dancers, gymnasts and martial artists are constantly working through positions from a square front split to an open front split (back foot turned out). If fact, to get good freedom of movement you should work both closed front splits and open front splits. That's the only way you will be able to turn from right front split, through middle split to left front split while remaining in contact with the floor. Some people with badly shaped pelvic bones or femurs may get joint impingement, but that can be true of any joint if your bone structure is not suited to what you are attempting to do.
@@I_love_stray_kids_89 I advise you do Anna Mcnulty's 2 weeks splits challenge it helped me go deeper into my splits and I advise you also to not overstretch or take breaks too often because it's easy to use flexibility I hope you take interest and hope it helps
2 years of training my middle splot is so far ...60cm from ground ...my front is much better and close but i feel im stuck...my front leg is off the floor ...dunno why

@@CharlieFollows it 60 centimetres in middle split ....in front im close ay be 20 cm ......i have pictures i can send u on Facebook coz Instagram i dont have. Thanks
@@CharlieFollows 2 years static and dynamic stretching for splits ...seem like static dont give much ...sure im more flexible than before but i mostly i feel tight....somtimes i feelbone to bone even i do external rotation ....in middle split ...in front my back legs and front are off the ground even i go down much better and have about 20 cm from ground....
@@samsam-nh9xi okay it’s easier for me to explain over Facebook. You can find my page here: facebook.com/charliefollowsyoga Just send me a message and I’ll do a quick tutorial for you on what I think will help.
So I didn’t know how to make it touch the ground before but then look at her back leg it is kinda folded on the toes and when I tried 🎉BAM🎉 instant when I let it unfold 🎉🎉Boom🎉🎉
Okay this is helpful information, but you’re twisted and tilted forward and should be sitting up higher and maintaining proper upright position rather than losing form to get the split- especially when teaching people how to split. form is more important than split depth.
Hey I have a 21-day splits challenge on my page. It just one class, but the idea is that its a complete routine that you can practice for 21-days to help you make progress.
Yeah, but it's my hip flexors and hamstrings that are cramping.
HAHAHAHHS
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂pls Aa😂😂😂😂😂
Haha
This.

I'd love to have classes focusing on working those group muscles for split 😍
Thanks for the request I’ll work something into my upcoming classes x
Beautiful woman
@@CharlieFollows I'm a year late. 😅Links to those videos?
Great. But I'd like to know how to improve on either muscle group

This is very true. Perfectly explained ✨

The way her voice is crying 😭😭💀💀💀
Hmm, really useful training, thanks for sharing Charlie
Great tip. Thanks 🙏🏽
you don't know how much it's hurting me internally to watch her in a split with the back foot flexed 🫣😭
I do girly i do! :(
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA I just noticed it that probably hurt sm
Girly that was the first thing I noticed. 😭😭
Yes me to,that was the only thing I could think bojt
Why? Is there something wrong with doing it that way?
I’m stretching everything, but my hamstrings are SO FREAKING TIGHT. I get it from my dad. It’s so annoying.
Forgive him and you'll split
Do you do full videos on UA-cam? It’s so hard to remember shorts especially when I’ve watched a couple of others 😊
Haha yes I do if you go to my channel I have hundreds of classes
@@CharlieFollows that’s great thank you. I didn’t think to look at the channel!
Yeah yeah I got it now, I don't know how I reached the full splits years ago without really working on the hip flexors.
Wow, you make this easy
I swear I'm hearing Australian, Irish, English and a sprinkle of Yanky in your accent!!
My hip flexors are the problem. I can’t get all the way to the floor. Been plateaued for wks now & not improving anymore 😢
Yeaa...THATS why im not making progress. 😢
Beautiful 😍❤️
Hopefully in about 2 years I'll get there 😅. Currently I'm about a yoga block above the floor.
It does take time 😅

would hamstring curls help with this or no since they need to be stretchy
Hamstring curls are amazing for building hamstring strength which YOU NEED for the splits
