Notes about this video: 1. I did my splits practice after my morning workout when my body was warm. 2. I was able to do the splits as a child, so the muscle memory was probably within my body - I think this made progress quite quick in the first few weeks. 3. I have tried learning the splits on and off as an adult (you'll see in my 30 days of yoga video) and got pretty close to full splits many times, but my practice was not consistent and I always gave up. Again, I think this previous practice helped me get the full splits in 60 days. 4. I was going to make this a 30-day challenge but then decided against it as it would have meant pushing hard and a possible injury. I am pleased I took it for as long as it needed to be.
Glad to read number 2. Might explain why my progress is do much slower. I'm 39 and am on month six. Calf is almost down. That's it. I've never done the splits I my life.
I remember as a kid the ballet class wanted to do them and I managed during the 6 or 7 weeks of summer vacation... as an adult I think it would take me much longer than 60 days but it would be fun to try. I don't want to end up one of the shuffling elderly one day. From frozen hips and joints.

THIS IS THE SUCH A GREAT COMMENT! Argh! I am so so happy! Thank you for sharing your experience! Please keep me updated on your progress. I can completely relate to the awesome feeling after - the release in the hips and back is such a relieving feeling, don't you think?
My favorite thing about your videos is that we're the same age, and I just love to know another woman is still setting goals, showing up for herself every day, and showing how the body can do amazing things. Thank you!
Go on Jesse! You know I expect a video of you in full-blown splits now 💪 😉 In all seriousness, it was a really great experiment. My body felt great as a result. and I'm still doing it now.
I'm 17 and I used to be a contortionist (in practice😅) but I stopped about 3 years ago. Decided to get back into practicing and this is all the motivation I need. Thank you so much and congratulations ❤❤❤❤
It seems like the best exercise to achieve the split is the split itself. I have been doing other various exercises for months with little or no gain. Recently, I switched over to spending most of my time in the split position and noticing much more progress. Thanks so much for pioneering the way.
yes, I would have to agree here, no better way to achieve something than to do the something. I am currently using the same approach for the pancake. It's been a good process, but a little slower, but that's ok.
yes yes yes. I wasted a lot of time following “split videos” where i spend the entire time doing random leg stretches and only suffer the splits for 2 minutes at the end. Don’t get me wrong it’s great for flexibility and I was able to do a lot more but i still didn’t get the splits. What this lady did is the best method
Yes, when I was dancing at 21, I got quite close to splits, but I was simply not able to do other stretches. The fellow girls didn't understand how I managed to get so close to splits 😂, because I was stiff at those stretches. But it didn't stop my body to progress in splits 🤷♀️ So I am 44 now and I need to get to the splits for various other health conditions. The best way to get there is to do them 🤷♀️
This was the most realistic video I’ve seen! I love how you took it slow and how once you got the splits, you explained how it helped you run better! You said your hips and glutes felt sooo much looser! That’s enough motivation for me!
As far as I know, plantar fasciitis has a lot to do with tight calf-muscles that put tension on the tendons leading down to under your foot. (Calf stretching exercises were most effective to relieve the plantar fasciitis pain long-term for me). When you train for the front splits, you also stretch the calves, so it makes sense that you also experience improvement with your plantar fasciitis.
Amazing work! I've joined Gymnastics 5 weeks ago at 32 yrs old and its so fun! I've noticed major progress but this video is encouraging me to work on my splits (one of my goals) more often throughout the week! Thank you!
So encouraging! I'm 31 and I've been doing pole dancing for a little over a year. There are SO many cool moves and poses that require flexibility that I do NOT have because I can't do splits at all. I really want to be able to do the splits to improve my form and flexibility, but I've been so discouraged, it sounded like it would take YEARS to be able to get the right form
Hi ! It's been 11 months sinds you posted this comment . I'm very curious if you are more flexible? I'm a dancer too (30) and it took me 1 week for 4 cm.
I'm gonna start training. I'm 36 and have anterior pelvic tilt, and have had lots of back and hip pain from tight muscles for most of my life. Thanks for the inspiration!
I'm basically in the same boat, turning 36 in December lol I did a few jumps and ended up with a shin splint. That's when I thought "Yeah this isn't ideal in any way or form."
SI joint disorder is horrific. I like the idea of the psoas stretching but, as someone with a connective tissue disorder, I think I'd need to be careful. Sometimes muscles ache because they're weak and need strengthening rather than stretching. Be interested to try this as I'm at my wits end with SI issues!
I got my splits when I was 14. I had them all through my 20's even if I hadn't done it in a while I could still get them. Then I turned 30 and I swear my body stiffened up overnight 😂. And I don't have them anymore. I really want to get them again! This is inspiring!
I love that you’re in your thirties learning this. It’s rare to see people trying anything new after 25. I’m rapidly approaching 25 & I’m not done challenging myself & learning things. In fact I’m just getting started. You’re an inspiration 💕
I started ballet when I was 35 (am going on 38 now) and so happy I did! When I was a child I wanted to be in ballet, but my family didn't have the economic opportunity. Once the world "opened up" in 2021, I enrolled in an adult beginner ballet class nearby and have been going ever since! My new year's resolution this year was to be able to touch my toes, which I haven't been able to do since I was about nine. Even then it took me over a year to be able to touch my toes. Eight months into 2023, I can sit and touch my ten toes for about 10 seconds. Gotta keep going to maintain/improve. 💪🏻
I got majorly into figure skating and ballet for a few years when I was 27-30 and then studied Japanese for several years. I quit all them though. 😮💨 But it's not like I didn't gain anything from the experience.
Love reading this thread!! I started learning Krump (a rather aggressive dance style) at 32. I simply refuse to take on a simpler thing that I have no interest in just because it's more "age-appropriate". Hopefully anyone who needs to see this will. Be mindful, have a realistic expectations and go for what you want to do. Life is too short!! 🔥😬💯
Just came across this and I’m going to make this a goal of mine with my step daughter she and I have very tight hips and pain in our feet. Sending her this video now
I’m so proud of you. I’m 30 and I have never been flexible. I am as stiff as a brick. I’ve been inconsistent with trying to master them but you have inspired me to take it seriously
I really appreciate your humour in all of your videos. Not only are you serious about accomplishing a goal, but you lighten it up making it more mentally accessible for yourself, and even more enjoyable to watch. 😊❤❤❤❤
This is my first time seeing you, but at 27 you have motivated me so much! I felt like I was slowing down and you let me know I'm just getting started.
I'm a 37 year old mum of two, ex ballet dancer, I stopped dancing for 12 years, thinking on going back. Your video really encouraged me. Please keep on this videos coming.
Thanks for the instructions & pictures! I’m 72 & going to work on this! As a kid I took ballet & could do the splits fairly well. I hurt my hip in a skateboard fall 60 years ago & have had hip & back trouble since then. Yoga has helped, so I’m confident these tips will too. Thanks! And you’re so pretty!
You have restored hope motivation and encouragement for me I love how you challenge yourself I have always wanted to learn the splits I practiced last year and gave up but this video has inspired me again, thank you 🔥✨❣️
What a lovely comment, thank you! Try again for sure and stick to the plan. This was about my 5th time practicing in adult life and I finally got there.
As i get older i realize how critical it is for me to strength train and stretch regular. You encourage me to maybe to try this. Im so focused on aging well.
That's cool. I am similar in age and also always wanted to learn. You've inspired me to do some stretches this evening for the first time in a long time 🎉
I just wanna add myself to your numbers. I had been trying to do the side splits since 2024, and thanks to your inspiring motivation I finally got it, at age 43! Much love from Brazil/ Uruguay!
Hey Laura I have been doing this for 5 days and the dull ache in my lower back is subsiding. When I lean against a wall I can put my hand through my back. So this is helping loads. I am going to continue this. My bum cheeks hurt and my hams, but when i walk I float and it’s helping my back loads after a run. Thank you so much x
This is so inspiring! A couple of years back I tried this app called "splits in 30 days". The exercises felt great, but after 90 days I still was at least a block height away and felt demotivated and quite. I bought some yoga blocks recently to help with other exercises (getting low low push ups), so I'm really tempted to have a go with your very simple method.
Thank you for this. I was doing this as a fun challenge. But I have plantar fasciitis and anterior pelvic tilt which causes my back to have a constant tension. This gives me more incentive to keep at it.
Wow! Your progress is so impressive! I tried to learn the splits so many times... Well done! You did great! I usually have discomfort in my lower back because of my tight muscles. And I feel so inspired by your video that I'm going to finally learn the splits and get rid of my pain!
I've tried doing this method before but the pain got too much and I gave in. Kudos to you for seeing it through, definitely gives me motivation to try it again some day
Stunning! Well done! What struck me was that you were doing this while making other videos. I guess that’s what’s it like being a UA-camr, but impressive non the less. Looking forward to what you have up your sleeve next. 😊
I am turning 38 with hashimotos and insulin resistance, a workaholic my life got turned around 360 after getting these two... Now I work from home, a lot more chill and relaxed, gotten also into a better mind place, and now I am focused on getting healthy in the gym. You inspire me so much! Thank you! The challanges are the pull ups and push ups for me now :)
Ibam 61 and got out of a twisted state around a rotated pelvis back to walking straight and my scoliosis went. This took 3 months. After living twisted for more than 20 years
I am impressed!!! I've been doing 100 pushups a day since April - now that that's routine, I think I need to work on my flexibility = splits! Thanks for this inspiring video!!
Yeah! A new video and for the very first time I am able to (easily) do something that is difficult for Laura!!! Yeah!!! Everything seems so easy for you (running, push ups, burpees etc, but the split I can do without any stretching (since I've been a dancer 20 years ago;-)
hahaha, this comment did make me chuckle. How lovely to just be able to do the splits. It is still 'sticky' for me 2 months on, but still practicing as I would like it to feel comfortable. You are a dancer - what a dream! What kind of dance?
@@LauraTryUK Hi Laura, I am 51 now and a Teacher, but I used to dance on big cruiseschip in the Carribean (??). My training was classical, modern and jazz. Also worked for tv and in musicals. Love your video’s ans your energy!
Thank you for sharing your video💖💖. I'm 71, was a bodybuilder many moons ago and have always wanted to do the splits and never could not even as a child😄. I'm definitely giving this a go starting today ; especially because my hip flexor sometimes gets tight when I sit too long. Thanks again
You just challenged me again and you make it look fun!!! I will give it a go and see what I can do. I love the part about the benefits that your show mentioned. And I love your jumpsuit!💃💃💃💃💖😎
I am excited you are going to give this a go. Please keep us all updated 🙌🏼 I was surprised about the benefits too - super cool that splits can do healthy things.
Love this! Defiantly think I will try this one as well! As a runner, my hips and legs are always getting tight! Defiantly think this would help me a lot! Thanks for another video with great content! :)
Thanks for posting this video. I was able to do full splits at 38. Now at aged 58, I've lost about 40 % of my flexibility. I am more than determined to regain most of it back and this video helps.
I'm a 41 year old male Physiotherapist from Germany and i am doing this Challenge for myself. I think what you did was also Post-Isometric-Relaxsation (PIR) not only PNF. Thank you for this Video.
Love this. I do lunge and quad stretch aswell to help the other muscles. From someone who has never done the splits it's a looooong process! But worth it. Inflexible people can get there with practice if their body allows x
I will definitely start on the 1st of October 😳 I’ve always wanted to learn the splits and you just have me the motivation ❤️ thank you for the video, always so inspiring 🥺❤️
Well done, good job. I have been at it for a year now, still using the props under the front leg and it's a very comfortable stretch now. I could probably come down completely but I have an irrational fear of that moment 🤣 Glad you made it back healthy, keep well. That last air splits demo was super cool - I did not think that was possible 😎
@@LauraTryUK Thank you Laura. I'll look it up, it sounds like it may be helpful in other yoga poses as well. For example I cannot do headstands- but there's anxiety of the full position there too
I was able to do the side splits for a long time, but never quite learned the front-back splits shown in this video. Perhaps I'll start practicing again.
Love this video, i've been working on my splits almost 2 weeks now and seeing the difference. I'm 37 I do yoga weekly but have never been able to do splits so this is very encouraging.
Absolutely going to do this challenge! I used to be able to do the splits in ballet, but that was many years ago. Would love to be able to do them again! Love the information you shared about relieving stress on the hips too! 🔥
I'm so excited to try what worked for you! My back story is quite similar: I could do the splits as a child/teenager. Not sure when I lost the ability. I've tried several times to do it as an adult but never stayed consistent. I hope this is the time I do it! I'm working on my pull ups too . . . looking forward to that video also.
@@LauraTryUK I Haven't made any progress. I admit I've only been adding some pull up work to my regular work out about once a week and that is clearly not enough . . . I've successfully completed a progression and done pull ups twice before, but it's been several years since the last time. I know the method I used previously, but I do not remember how often I did it, or how long it took me to finally be able to do the pull ups.
@@L_yeah If you're interested to work on pull-ups, surely you will have encountered the good advice on UA-cam (e.g. focus on the negative part, use resistance bands, etc.)? And since your comment implies, that you might be questioning the workout frequency: In my local gym there is a poster on the wall with a graph, showing how you set a stimulus for adaption in your body with a workout. For a limited time after your workout, your body will perform better than before ("supercompensation"). You would need to exercise again during this time to then increase further (and further and ...). Thus many people would repeat their workouts every 48h or so -> to allow for regeneration and to hit that supercompensation time window. The other challenge is to make oneself stick to such a regime long-term. Once that's accomplished, improvements are basically inevitable.
YAY YAY YAY!!! I never had any doubt that you could and would! I love hearing about all of the incidental benefits. I also enjoy your mostly-chill-do-a-little-everyday approach; seems like the best method physically as well as mentally. Gonna try this starting in October. I'll get back to ya by the end of November. Thanks LT!
Susan 😍 I'm pleased you like all the benefits bit. and the chilled approach, I am learning to become more patient with learning new things rather than rushing. Thanks for commenting as always! Please keep me updated on your splits progress 💪
October has been really crazy but I have managed to work on increasing my splits flexibility about half of the month. As a 51 year old, my body has resisted doing splits-stretching everyday for 10 minutes. Since I believe in listening to my body I am happy to make slow progress without injury. I started out using 2 yoga blocks plus a couch cushion. I am now down to just the 2 yoga blocks for 6 minutes total. Despite the slow progress, I feel my hips are much less tense and I can now touch my toes doing a sitting plank. I could NEVER do that, not even when I was 16 and doing gymnastics. So, yay for me! Just goes to show that our bodies need the challenge and can benefit at any age. Thanks for your inspiration. I truly doubt I would ever have attempted this if it weren't for you! Many thanks!!! Keep up the good work! Hugs, Sparky
It helps that you did ballet for so many years. I used to dance, too and it'd be much easier for me to split again than for someone who never did it before.
Wow. Very inspiring. I did gymnastics in my youth when I was able to do the splits (in addition to aerial cartwheels). I hadn't done them in so many years. I tried but was so far off the ground I thought my split days were long behind me. So, just for shit kicks and giggles, I decided to try it again, some 40 years later. I am in the process of it now and am surprised I am moving along quickly. It is giving me hope that I can do this again. I decided to check UA-cam to see if there were videos on this and found this one. So, there is hope for anyone over the age of 20 to do this.
Great job! I've realized in the last year that I could no longer sit on my feet (like from my knees) for some reason I can't seem to bend my legs back all the way. I got divorced about 5 years ago so perhaps that fact that I no longer ever need to be in that position might be responsible! ;)
Had to click on your vid, i too learned the splits at 39! Took me much longer (6 months -1yr) everytime i pushed it i couldnt stretch at all for days so i took it much more gentle and incorporated standing stretches (put foot onto window sill and leant into my leg, much like a ballerina on a barre) glad its not just me who wanted to do this just shy of 40 lol.
I felt the same about handstands. I found I had extremely tight shoulders. Now handstands are easy after 2 months of handstands, flexibility and mobility workouts. I will try splits next. I will always train my handstands because it’s an extremely transferable skill.
Oh wow, you can handstand!!! This is a challenge I have planned once I have mastered pull-ups. Any tips you have are welcome. Feel free to send an IG message to me. I am excited to learn them. Thanks so much for commenting.

Eight months into 2023, I can sit and touch my ten toes for about 10 seconds. Gotta keep going to maintain/improve. 💪🏻
Life doesn’t stop after 25. Keep exploring, trying new things. You never know
I got majorly into figure skating and ballet for a few years when I was 27-30 and then studied Japanese for several years.
Rare to see people trying something new after 25? I tried way more after 25 than before. I don’t know anyone who just stopped living after 25.
This channel is the Best Discovery I did today
I’m 22 and I recently decided I wanted to learn the splits. Been stretching for a week and this video was so encouraging!!!
I'm a 37 year old mum of two, ex ballet dancer, I stopped dancing for 12 years, thinking on going back. Your video really encouraged me. Please keep on this videos coming.
Hi😊
After following your challenge I can do split within 30 days today 😭 thank you 3000 times.
As i get older i realize how critical it is for me to strength train and stretch regular. You encourage me to maybe to try this. Im so focused on aging well.
This was a great example of something simple to improve a tight area that makes a huge impact in every body which sirs, stands and walks! Love it!
Wow!! I have a terrible anterior pelvic tilt, tight hips, and lately a tight lower back. You’ve really inspired me to try this. Thank you!
Thank you, Laura, you are a true inspiration ❤
You are toooooo kind 🙏🏼
@@LauraTryUK ❤
You are so inspiring!!!! I am 43 and it is a dream to want to do it!!! Thanks so much! I will follow and give you news…
Hey Richard, thanks for the comment.
There's always something fun going on in this house 😆
Thant awesome Laura.... who never said hard work never paid off... not including (ice buckets, laps around town, decorating the kitchen) etc ect
Hi😊😅
Ibam 61 and got out of a twisted state around a rotated pelvis back to walking straight and my scoliosis went. This took 3 months. After living twisted for more than 20 years
You’re back!🎉👏👏👏🥰❤️
I just turned 73 and always wanted to do the splits
You have encouraged me to try!
Thanks for the tips and inspo Laura 🙏 🙏🙏
Thank you for your comment 🙏🏼
My pleasure!
WOOHHOO! This is so inspiring! I'm doing a splits challenge and I'm right now on day 6. Awesome video :D
I am impressed!!! I've been doing 100 pushups a day since April - now that that's routine, I think I need to work on my flexibility = splits! Thanks for this inspiring video!!
I love that you did 100 pushups a day since April, that's so cool.
Now to master the spilts 😀
Honestly the best fitness related video I've seen. No filler no pseudoscience. Great work will definitely subscribe
OOOOOOH! This comment. THANK YOU!
Love your video’s ans your energy!
oh wow, what a lovely job.
I used to dance (aged 4-16). I did ballet, tap, modern and other styles. I loved it so much.
Fantastic!!! It’s great to to see an achieved goal.
I have been trying for almost a year now, I guess I didnt try hard enough.
Thanks for the motivation. I ll give it another go.
Be back in 60 days!
You just challenged me again and you make it look fun!!! I will give it a go and see what I can do. I love the part about the benefits that your show mentioned. And I love your jumpsuit!💃💃💃💃💖😎
I am excited you are going to give this a go. Please keep us all updated 🙌🏼
I was surprised about the benefits too - super cool that splits can do healthy things.
Laura,
Greetings from across the Atlantic. 🇺🇸
You are such an inspiration, girl! 😊 I love your videos!!
Many thanks and don’t ever stop being you.
Thank you for the lovely comment 🙏🏻
It is safer to start the pigeon pose before pushing so much pressure on your hamstrings. Learning step by step avoiding risks
From a 57 year old trying to do the splits (I'm almost there), you rock!!! Brava and Thank you! 💪💐✌
Love this! Defiantly think I will try this one as well! As a runner, my hips and legs are always getting tight! Defiantly think this would help me a lot! Thanks for another video with great content! :)
Thanks for posting this video. I was able to do full splits at 38. Now at aged 58, I've lost about 40
% of my flexibility. I am more than determined to regain most of it back and this video helps.
OMG the stuff you come up with lol I haven't seen you for a while missed you made my day when I seen you were back
such a lovely comment Brock, it good to be back 👊
I'd been slacking in my exercises, and you really motivated me to get back in the grove. Keep up the good work!
This was incredibly motivating 😊
Splits can be so hard!
Thank you sooo much for this! I'm nearly 41 and I've been inspired! ♥ Practice starts now!
I will definitely start on the 1st of October 😳 I’ve always wanted to learn the splits and you just have me the motivation ❤️ thank you for the video, always so inspiring 🥺❤️
I am so excited for you to start this challenge!! Please keep us all updated 👊
How’d it go?
How did I go?
This inspired my 43yr old self to work harder on my figure skating. Hey Musa... it's been a year... how is your progress?
This is so inspiring, thanks for taking the time to film and edit your progress and then sharing it! :D
Well done for keeping the practice. It will happen I am sure. Keep going 💪
Ps- have you tried the PNF technique?
@@LauraTryUK Thank you Laura. I'll look it up, it sounds like it may be helpful in other yoga poses as well. For example I cannot do headstands- but there's anxiety of the full position there too
this is the best video on learning the splits i've ever seen. in less than 2 months at that. i'm so motivated and inspired. ty!
I was able to do the side splits for a long time, but never quite learned the front-back splits shown in this video. Perhaps I'll start practicing again.
I’m 55 and I will try doing this challenge. You are Amazing. I’m happy to find you 😊
Ok, I am going to do the slits and the pancake. I think this will benefit my handstand training.
pancake!?
Handstand training!?
Ok, I'm in! 😁
you used to do ballet - how lovely! Me too. The muscle memory will be there for sure. You can definitely do it 💪
Glad to see another video from you. It’s been a while. 😊👍🏼
Amazing! I am able to do the side splits, but I don't think I will ever do a straddle (middle) split. I am 47 :) It feels amazing!!
👏🏽👏🏽
Shows what can be done with determination. Fantastic work. I feel super lazy now.
We have the same stories. I am sure you will share the same results as me.
Cool on the pull-ups!
How are you doing on them?
@@LauraTryUK I Haven't made any progress. I admit I've only been adding some pull up work to my regular work out about once a week and that is clearly not enough . . . I've successfully completed a progression and done pull ups twice before, but it's been several years since the last time. I know the method I used previously, but I do not remember how often I did it, or how long it took me to finally be able to do the pull ups.
@@L_yeah If you're interested to work on pull-ups, surely you will have encountered the good advice on UA-cam (e.g. focus on the negative part, use resistance bands, etc.)?
And since your comment implies, that you might be questioning the workout frequency:
In my local gym there is a poster on the wall with a graph, showing how you set a stimulus for adaption in your body with a workout.
@@RC-ic1co thanks very much for this!
As a 33 year old woman, I am so inspired to do this now ty subscribed.
Thanks LT!
Susan 😍
I'm pleased you like all the benefits bit. and the chilled approach, I am learning to become more patient with learning new things rather than rushing.
Thanks for commenting as always!
Please keep me updated on your splits progress 💪
@@LauraTryUK Will do. I'm excited to try!
You seem like such a kind warm person. Thank you for teaching me this!! Was a pleasure
Glad you're better Laura x
Awesome video x
Thank you did making this. I’m 37 and this gives me encouragement it’s not too late to be flexible
Well done! You're an inspiration, Laura. Looking forward to your new challenges (and to doing one myself :-D ). xxx
Hi😊
this video is a year old and I can't believe I'm only seeing now....very motivational. thank you for sharing!
I got divorced about 5 years ago so perhaps that fact that I no longer ever need to be in that position might be responsible! ;)
Good lord!
Never say never.....
Lots of pain and suffering, but always a lovely smile to finish LT ;-)
The bit about the hip tilt improvement inspired me to work on the splits.
Did you warm up before practicing or just go for it cold?
A good question - I did my splits practice after my morning workout when my body was warm.
The pelvic tilt bit was a revelation for me!
Hey LT! I’ve been doing this for the last couple of weeks and my back feels 10x better! Thanks for making the video :)
This is AWESOME Gretchen! So cool your back feels good!
