Hi, physical therapist (and almost Osteopath) here. The first half of this video was quiet good and accurate. BUT! There are hundreds possible causes of bad posture (hips, feet, diaphragm system, fascia chains Dysfunktions, skull Dysfunktions, C section, any kind of old operation anywhere, just to name a few). That said, offer ONE solution like a set of exercises for everybody is so a huge approximation and probably for many many cases will be just wrong, because every patient is unique, and so should be the solution in correlation with finding the root cause. For everyone with a bad posture reading my comment: please don't search and try some universal solution on the internet, just go see a professional and let him find the best way to help you specifically. Otherwise you risk in the best case to lose a lot a time, worst case to make things even worse.

Bro, im seeing a lot of comments talking about the background music. I mean, could it be quieter? Sure. But I never even paid attention to the music until I seen (so many) people talking about it. There’s no way this many people are this distracted by the background music. Idk, just thought it was weird
Well. I have be autism so things like this are really distracting for me, but yeah the information is far more important than minor inconvenience, just not as comfortable as it could be. Also, I lost track of a video to write this comment, rip
Stand up straight is one of the biggest misdirections that make people focus on the wrong aspects of posture from a young age. I really wish i was taught more about this sort of thing and PRI and whatnot YEARS ago when i started having issues lol 😭
UA-cam is reading my mind today. This rib flare thing and over extending my low back has been habitual for me for years after hurting my low back. I'm only now realising it's happening and trying to get out of the habit. Good content!
iv found that posture focused corrective exercises are a compliment to constant body awareness. It also requires being able to relax the parts of the body where i hold tension (neck, jaw, shoulders, low back) Its no good doing such exercises fantastically every day without utilising the gains the other 99% of the time. Ive found that nothing puts me into better posture as easy and fast as my childhood ballet positions; engages glutes, puts my hips into neutral, foot weight placement corrects, neck-hips less curved, shoulders relax. So now i slip that posture into micro moments throughout the day, such as when filling up my water filter, brushing teeth, making a brew.
OMG! My family is posterior pelvic tilt! Because our Elders were conservative. So ramrod straight back it was: chest up, bottom in! Me doing corrective exercises in my 50s! Thank you, Conor! Love Love Love all your videos! Kudos to the work you're doing!
This fixed my posture. But i also did alota weight lifting(especially when it comes to core and backstrength; abdominis, obliques, backextender, traps) and streching(mainly weighted; my rom i pretty huge in comparison to the people i know) But this is just additional work i do for other purposes. I mainly fixed it by forcing myself to stand and sit straight. I have to stand like 9h at work and we are told to stand straight, which made me overdo it. After some uncomfortable weeks (due to fact that my muscles weren t used to be in that position for quiet some time) i usually stand straight and when i dont, i immediatly notice and fix it. Even when i m all the way done/exhausted. I dont think those exercises he recommends will change you posture in the long run. In the moment of exercising and maybe emmidiatly after. But changing ur posture will take dedication and consistency. I get so many compliments on my posture and i just feel like so much better. Keep it up guys
Awesome stuff! First time I heard about rib flare was at the acupuncturist and focusing on “fixing” it has been a huge help. I’ve had years of experience working with athletic trainers and physical therapists and none of them ever mentioned it as a problem. I’m glad people like you are out there spreading the word 💪🏼
Very helpful! Although the music is meant to be calming, it did distract me a bit and I had to rewind it to confirm I heard the right instructions. I think the music is difficult for me because I have tinnitus.
Trying to “stand tall” can be more damaging than you think. I had been doing that all my life thinking I'm fixing my posture. Now in my 41s, I'm dealing with a very problematic l4 l5 S1 disc herinations (I'm in 9th month and it's healing really slowly - now it's like 60% ok).
Just began the 'standing straight' method without anyone knowing just a some few discussion with friends and now seeing this popped up😳. Thanks the algo for hearing me through the phone🌚.
Looking pretty dang jacked in these last few videos. Progress really coming along nicely. Will also help with spreading the message- as always, people believe a jacked guy far easier than a skinny babbler
One thing that helped fix my posture in a relatively short time (as well as preventing a lot of back and hip pain, though I still have knee pain because I'm fat) was buying a pair of barefoot shoes. It does help with getting me to walk with a more natural gait.
If you train your hip to be neutral, and your tighening your transversus there is no problem. You can then use the belly breathing as much as possible, as it is the best way to release the diaphragm and to excret serotonin. thoracical breathing is also better than pectoral breathing.
Honestly pretty sure that standing so exaggeratedly upright and having my spinal curves flatten, and then also trying to look down from that position, is to blame for me developing a reverse cervical curve 🤷♂ Conor’s live biomechanics course seriously helped me open my eyes to how i should actually be at rest and when walking around, its been a process but its been incredibly helpful! Not standing with that extreme positioning makes me feel like im slouching, but its totally a normal looking posture when I look in a mirror lol
@conor please you need to make a progression guide on these breathing exercises you preach! How many times a day should we be doing this / how long donwe keep doing this Etc Please i just get lost
Great video, do you you agree that men with kyphosis should back right off chest weight exercises and concentrate more on back weight exercises? Cheers😊
The vast majority of the population has posterior pelvic tilt. The correct way to stand up tall (and this is a correct cue) is to stand up with one's nose to a wall and move one's nose up. The shoulders should go up and forward and the tailbone (usually) up and back.
I don't know how youtube randomly recommended me this while most of my stuff is mostly about movies. It was worth it. By the way, do those exercises can help with scoliosis, I mean it's on my leg but I almost had "hunchback" due to it. Anyways I'll try it. Maybe it wasn't some ramdom video 😬
I know I need to open up the chest and fix my anterior pelvic tilt, but something new that's been plaguing me is my right shoulder. The space under my right collar bone starts to hurt terribly if I round my back or roll my shoulder back. It hurts if I engage my lats. It also hurts when i raise my right arm. I don't know what is causing it exactly, and don't know how to treat it...
I stood up straight once but I wasn’t even conscious of the fact I had bad posture. I just thought it was a good way to add a little extra calorie burn to my day.
