  • A good bermuda grass lawn care program can help your lawn get the treatment it needs to be the envy of the neighborhood. This video teaches you how to fertilize a bermuda lawn. I also cover what pre and post emergent herbicides to apply and when to apply them. Bermudagrass lawns can look great with the proper care. Hopefully these tips will help you develop a treatment schedule for your lawn that is based not only on the calendar, but also on the weather. Here are some of the links mentioned in the video.

    Haha lucky I found this. I can take everything you say and apply it to my lawn. As I'm in Birmingham, AL. Got tired of getting jipped by Tru-Green So I decided to take care of my lawn on my own. Thanks A ton for all of your help.

    Great stuff Jason! Last year was my first year and my program is very similar. I think I'm going to switch up my fertilizer to incorporate a slow release in June or July.. That made a lot of sense to me

    Thank you Jason....can you do the same thing for St Augustine. This video is SO helpful. I have pulled a lot of this info from your other videos but this one is a good one for me to reference. This is VERY beneficial. I also find the Weed ID and Treatment videos very helpful. I would love to see a series called, "How to handle this"...where you show up at a yard, examine/ID the weeds for us, and then go over how to treat it, with what chemicals. My latest issue is this. Picked up two new customers (mix of Bermuda and St Aug in both yards) in AUG in Texas...HOT. Both yards are over run with spurge, crabgrass, nutsedge, some pigweed, plus others I cant even identify....LOL...where to start?? Ugggg.When you mix the small handheld sprayers with chemicals for spot treating, how long do they last? A week before refill, a day? Curious to know if I can mix, spray and leave the rest for later without loosing ethicacy.

    I was cranking my solo chest spreader and the top popped off and a scary clown popped up and scared the hell out of me. I forgot to remove the clown from the hopper when it first arrived. So don't forget to do that.
    Nice video Jason. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.

    Thanks Jason for taking the time to show us average home owners how best to keep our yards looking great. I received many compliments last summer from my neighbors about my yard. I even had a Lawn service rep stop and ask me which lawn service company I used. Funny, I told him I did it all myself. He said my yard was the best looking one in our subdivision. Nice compliment I thought.

    LCL; thanks for all your advice, I had been struggling to get info on killing virginia buttonweed around GA. I had been looking to get ‘avenue south’ herbicide which is combination of many focus on virginia buttonweed chamberbitter and some others. do you recommend it? MSM Turf is also mentioned for a lot less per application. I am mainly concerned with yellowing the bemuda turf and gettting ride off v. buttonweed prior to next season.

    Hi Jason. I'm in the weed control and fertilization business in Arkansas. Since we are similar latitudes and dealing with the same grasses, you have been a huge help. I thank you. My question is about how you measure Celsius and use a small sprayer. How do you ensure you are getting the proper rations of the active ingredients. For example, my supplier taught me to mix Negate by pouring the entire bottle into a container with a gallon of water, mix, then you 3 ounce per gallon. Negate, like Celsius has multiple active ingredients. Any advice?

    Hey Jason, great video. My backyard is half Tall Fescue and some Bermuda grass. It is on a slight slope and has a vegetable garden. From all the herbicides you mention, is there ANY that aren't safe applied uphill from the garden? I'm afraid the herbicide will run down the hill when it rains and get into the garden. I'm in the Transition Zone in Mid-NC. THANKS.

    Hi Jason
    Why does my lawn produce so much dead yellow straw on almost weekly basis. I collect the clippings but that won't stop it.
    My lawn is the same as the neighbors as we all had the same builder and moved in at almost the time. But the "neighbors' lawn is greener" literally.
    Thanks

    Hi Jason, been studying this and wanting to set up my program for bermuda in North Atlanta. One point of confusion is on Round 1 and use of 24D and Atrazine in January. I have read that Bermuda may not be totally dormant and so use of Atrazine is risky, especially on short, reel cut lawns. Also, I have read in a few places that 24D will kill dormant bermuda. Have you had any problems with this in Rd 1 or 2?

  • @ryanjones9498

    Worked for 2 lawn care companies. One was Weed Man that did no pre-emergent applications and i was so young and dumb i didn’t know why that half my stops were call back jobs spot spraying weeds. I guess Weed Men saved money just fertilizing 6 times a year and spot spraying weeds when they came up.
    The other company actually did pre emergents but no were near the level of intelligence of this program. Again i think these big companies know its the cheapest method to sell 6 rounds of fertilizer and deal with weeds as they come up. It’s us workers who have to deal with frustrated customers and spend time doing call backs.

    I thought that Atrazine was a big no-no on bermuda, although I have heard that you can use glyphosate on it as long as its dormant without causing damage. So my question is using Atrazine on bermuda fine as long as the grass is dormant? Also, is this a blanket application of Atrazine you are recommending or just a spot treatment for any existing weeds?

    • @jimbo5635
      @jimbo5635 2 роки тому

      Not an expert, but I have used it on dormant Bermuda with no results. In my experience atrazine doesn't do anything if the temp is below 55. Course all these chemicals work slowly when it's cold

    • @lawncarelife

    • @bassmaster1953

      It depends on the weather. Rainy summers will weaken prodiamine sooner. Indaziflam is longer lasting in my experience. Third year, no crabgrass.

    Hi Jason, have you ever used Change Up instead of Triplet during Round 1? I have a lot of creeping charlie, oxalis, geranium and Triplet doesn't kill those weeds.

    • @lawncarelife
      @lawncarelife  3 роки тому

      I don't but oftentimes if I see a yard that has those weeds, I have to go back and spot treat with change up. Or sometimes, I put change up in my ride on machine and I can ride over it real quick and blanket it. But those yards are not the majority so to me it's not worth the extra cost to put change up on every yard

  • @koomo801

    I know this is a sensitive question, but how much do you think you'd charge annually for a 10,000 sq ft yard to handle what you discussed? (Assuming no special call-outs for weed problems, etc). Here in central OK, programs run from five to ten visits, and the price varies considerably (from what I've seen of my neighbors' yards, the results vary considerably, too!)

    I know this is a old video, but your math and my math get to the same point regarding fertilizer volume but I believe mine is much easier to understand. Take nitrogen, the first number, and divide it into 100. 100/38=2.63. So, 2.63 lbs. per 1000 sq. equals 1 lb. of nitrogen per 1000 sq. feet. In your example 1 lb. per 1000 sq. feet would be 10×2.63 or 26.3 lbs. If you want 2 lbs. per 1000 sq. feet, just double 2.63 and multiply again by 10. 2.63 doubled is 5.26, so 5.26×10=52.6 lbs. of product to get 2 lbs. per 1000 sq. feet.
    Not trying to confuse anyone but to me anyway, it is a much simpler formula to figure out fertilizer volume.
