I need to tweak that calendar for SE Texas because we are warm into early November. It is 11/12/2021 & we have highs in the upper 70s low 80s till next week. In Feb we get warm days, but for us our Spring calendar starts that 1st week in March. -- Thanks for this video, very helpful.

I've finally found someone as much a lawn fanatic as I am!
Can't wait to fertilize, mow, areate, trip every winter leading up into the spring. My problem is I have 4 acres of grass and no irrigation system, so I'm at the mercy of rain on Sandy soil. I do try to keep area in backyard and close around house nicer. The rest of it just goes with the weather trend.
    Happy mowing

I just bought a new house in N. Georgia with Bermuda sod in the front lawn. Had terrible amounts of crabgrass and other weeds. Using your tips I’ve gotten rid of almost all the weeds! Bermuda’s looking real nice now. I still have to figure out how to seed the back since it has contractors rye grass. I’m gonna check out a local nursery for some good Bermuda seed.

we live in South West Texas and just had a brand new Bermuda Lawn put in (14 Palettes). We don’t have a sprinkler system, we are hand watering it at this time, spinkler system might come next year. OK..after the sod was put in, it was really, really LUMPY..it makes it tough to fertilize as well as to mow. I plan on renting a Water Wheel from Home Depot next year before the grass starts to grow, and I’ll wet the lawn and run the heavy Water Wheel over the entier area to try and level it out. Our Landscaper told us that we shouldn’t dethatch the lawn here in Texas due to the poor soil and high heat..so we won’t do that unless he tells us to do it. We have a lot of different kinds of weeds or grass types that shouldn’t be in the lawn and we don’t know what they are called or how to treat them. We WILL go and buy some Pre emergent tomorrow at Home Depot and start treating it right away, we LOVE your videos and its so darn full of great information!...

My wife and I just purchased our first ever house, and I am excited to finally have a lawn. The builder put down sod in the front and sides (I believe it was Tifway 419). We closed around Christmas and they laid the sod while hit was already dormant. They also put it on red clay with no topsoil underneath. It hasn't taken root yet, and you can still see the sod lines, but trying to get a head start so it will start growing rapidly once it heats up.
I also think you said in a previous video not to put any pre emergent on new sod, but I am getting some crab grass growing through in a few spots that I don't want to get out of hand.
Lastly, I can't really afford 4 pallets of sod for the back yard, and they put down fescue, but was thinking of overseeing that with Princess 77 seed, since that seems to be the only hybrid bermuda seed I can find that would work where we live (Charlotte area).

With my bermuda, I have scalped it (I live in Las Vegas), with the pre emergent, do I get a certain brand? Do I oversees it? I have a ton of clover and crab grass clusters...I was just going to put nitrogen on it. After listening to you, I am not sure what to do? I do have sprinklers here, and our weather is now turning into 75+ degrees, only to get hotter. Not sure what to put on first and if I can put the pre emergent and then the nitrogen on? Appreciate your help. I learned so much from you!! Fantastic video!!

Also, with our heat, keeping the grass at this low height, can be some times not a good idea, it tends to not be as green as much as keeping it at about an inch and half. Maybe I need to have something else put on it, during these hot temps of 115+

Doc....Just watched your calendar video and it was awesome. I live in Charlotte where we have a clay soil, as do you in Atlanta. We have a community yard service, and we have terrible looking yards. Granted, we have only been here for a year and a half, so it's a small sample to use. I believe that they don't know how to care for bermuda grass, and it is driving me crazy, for I am a lawn nerd. First of all, do you use a reel mower or a standard lawn mower with a bag attachment. Also, do you have a list of fertilizers that you use for your yard, and are they granular as well as liquid form. When you overseed, what kind of seed do you use. I appreciate the time that you take to share this information, and I look forward to seeing more of your video

Hello. I am having a home built in central Oklahoma and it will be done sometime around the first part of July. It will be sodded with Bermuda. I have never owned a home before and I really want a nice lawn, it is a must!! I like your calendar however with sod going down in July in OK it will be hot. Any suggestions on new sod being laid in the middle of the year? Can I put pre-emergent down on freshly laid sod to help it grow/root in addition to watering? Thanks for your input!

Got my Bermuda lawn set up this summer with a truckload of soil and 10 pounds of Arden-15 seed. It looks great, but haven’t really done any treatments besides some fert a couple of times. When it comes to pre-emergent, can I put that down in early/middle Feb using granular? And then will that be ok if I scalp a month later? Also, I do not have a motorized reel mower yet, so I was planning to scalp with the lowest setting on my manual reel mower, will that work?

Bermuda WILL overtake centipede. Just a matter of time. Centipede requires more water (more often), less nutrients, and a more acidic soil

I'm in Houston, TX and my neighbors run their sprinklers constantly even when it rains. This Feb during the big freeze my backflow broke. I didn't water the lawn all year, just used the rain. Every week it has rained at least 2 days with the exception of 2 weeks. I noticed that I did not need to use the sprinkler. It gets hot down here, but folks water too much. In the summer if we don't have rains, water, otherwise use the rain to your advantage.

Hi your video is so great. I just have a question. We moved into our house January 2019. The new Bermuda sod had been planted the previous September. I just recently had a guy put a gentle weed killer on the lawn and it seem to work. Before then I had done no fertilization because everyone kept saying it could kill the grass. So it is July and I do have some diseased spots and a few other issues. Do you have any suggestions? We live in Alabama.

  • @mac100percent

Awesome, and informative, video! Living in AL I have about the same climate but had a question.
When spraying, the 30-0-0, prior to using the granular, 20-5-10, do you just use a hand-held sprayer? Im assuming process kills two birds with one stone by not having to wait for rain to dissolve the granular and also give is an extra boost being a liquid fertilizer. I guess I’m thinking that MAYBE isn’t always needed, or could burn the grass, unless you do it distribute and use it properly, if that’s safe to say?

Hey doc, I just bought a house that’s on very sandy soil in NC. There a mix of a few different grasses with the bulk being Bermuda. The yard is mostly bare and full of weeds. Without any knowledge of what to do, I threw out Bermuda seed the last week of June. I’ve been watering the heck out of it and some of the existing grass is greening up and growing. I really need to mow but I’m scared to hurt what I’ve done with the seed. Can I mow? What can I do to improve my lawn and get rid of the weeds and what kind of timeline do I need to follow. I’m trying to learn what I can from your videos but it’s a ton of info at once. My previous house was on different soil and anything would grow well so I basically just had to do weed control and fertilize here and there. Thanks in advance. If you can point me in the direction of which of your products I need, I’ll gladly use them.

Hi Doc...stumbled across this video and it was very insightful. Thank You! I'm a new homeowner living in the Los Angeles area. Would you still recommend following your monthly schedule plans for taking care of Bermuda grass in my area?
Also, due to the high heat temperatures that we experienced this summer, some areas of my lawn have browned out as if the grass has gone dormant. However, I am also seeing that over seeding should be done in early Spring, and over seeding and aeration should be done at the same time. My Bermuda lawn is really thinned out and compacted. When should I aerate and over seed?

Great video. I want to seed my lawn with hulled hybrid bermuda. Is this a good time? I'm in Southern California.

    Hey Doc,
Early February, I just cut my yard low and I have St. Augustine or centipede grass in my bermuda yard, not all over but in spots. What do you recommend? I have written all of your recommendations down, but that is my concern now. Going to put dirt down for low areas next week. Mid Georgia. Thanks for your help.

Pick one and over seed. Just keep hitting it once the weather warms like in early june.

My lawn is full of Weeds. I'm just now getting started on working on my lawn. Is it okay to do weed killer now since I missed January/February per your calendar?

Pre emergent goes on after all weeds are pretty much gone or regardless....?

    Hey Doc,
1st of August and I have another type of grass trying to take over. Do you recommend cutting that portion low and overseeding or what until dormant season? Is it possible to send a picture of my yard?

Doc, I just seeded my bermuda lawn this year. We have quite a few weeds along with the grass. I intend to follow along with your calendar, but are there any special precautions I should know about because of the age of my lawn? Thanks, you made me a subscriber :)

Yes, be careful most weed killers say established lawns and the age when you can apply them.

I have a new house with a new Bermuda lawn it was installed in November 2020 and this will be the first summer. I’ve noticed some weed coming up and the lawn is still brown. Can I do a pre emergent to kill the weeds? If so what do you recommend or do i need to spot treat it, there is a lot.
    Thanks

Hi Doc, so thankful for your advice. If you haven't yet seeded the lawn and it's full of weeds, what's a good time to put the grass seed in and when do you put the pre-emergent? Does the calendar work in California?

We have a LOT of rain in winter here in La, so I cut my bermuda short so the ground will dry up.

Hello Doc, thank you for your videos. I read the 2020 guide. In there, I didn't see how to start treating the lawn during late spring and early summer. What do you recommend? I unfortunately found your videos this week. My lawn is not that bad, but it has a lot of weeds.

I would wait until temps hit the 70s min. It acts more like a biostimulant and needs microbes.

Maybe a dumb question but does your super juice pretty much cover all the fertilizer needs year round other than pre emerg?

Doc, can you advise on best ways to deal with volunteer centipede or St Augustine grass invading my Tifway 419 lawn without killing the good lawn? I am in southeast NC. Thanks...

Doc I know you say not to over seed. In previous comments i told you that i just got a new house in monroe ga. You said pre emergent and fertilize. I have ordered all your stuff and have done that. The lawn has Bermuda in it and I'm trying to bring it all back to Bermuda by fall of next year. I'm getting married in my front yard and want it to be the best it can be without sodding it. I believe it was sided in Bermuda but the previous home owners let it go. It is full of centipede crab Dallas carpet and a few others I'm forgetting to mention. However I'm getting the crab grass under control with the pre emergent now. You say not to over seed cause you get different textures of Bermuda and it looks bad. Come spring next year I'm going to scalp very well. What seed do I need to buy and when do I put it out if I want a lawn like yours by 2020 fall? I'm gonna do it all myself got the money to do and I'm a lawn idiot and crazy about my lawn just ask the pizza delivery that popped his own tires thinking he could drive on what Bermuda I do have. My kids wouldn't stay off of it so I put a spike strip in to stop that habit. When do I seed and what seed do you recommend. At this point texture doesnt matter cause I barely have Bermuda. I have roughly 15000 square feet of lawn thanks in an advance love the videos.

Put down PE in the late winter, then stop. Seed with HIGH quality seed next June. Eventually the good seed will take over most. Use a yukon or blackjack seed.
