    My projector had the same issue - broken bulb pieces not letting the cooling fan function properly, causing a shutdown within minutes of power on.
    Thanks to this great video, not only was I able to reach to the core of the projector and rectify the issue, my projector got a much deserved clean up. Without this incredibly helpful video I could never have felt confident enough to open up the unit. Thanks a lot Frank for your help! Cheers.

      @@FixitFrank Have you done board-level repair on these--like replacing the bga chips?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  3 роки тому

      I have. My background is electronics. Board level repair. I fell into this because of my day job. I still do side work with actual general electronics stuff. I just cant share most of it online because its a lot of proprietary designs. I used to fix xbox 360s with the red-ring, and I have saved more than a few SSDs when they lost a few BGA connections. I have not had a reason to do it on a projector because its not really worth it. Replacing the parts with BGA connections usually need programming with firmware that I don't have access to.

    Hi Frank, excellent video, as usual!! The other day I took my Benq W1070 apart to clean the DMD, and when I put it back together it started to have overheating / fan noise problems within 5 minutes (it never did before I cleaned it, even after running for hours!).
    When it starts up:
    Temp 265
    Fan 1 RPM 2459
    Fan 2 RPM 2459
    Fan 3 RPM 3390
    Fan 4 RPM 1954
    After only 5 minutes:
    Tenp 385
    Fan 1 RPM 3871
    Fan 2 RPM 4054
    Fan 3 RPM 3315
    Fan 4 RPM 3315
    After that I turn it off, don't wanna blow up my lamp!
    From the outside, when it's running the hottest part is the Power Fan (#2) area. The Lamp exhaust fan (#1) doesn't seem to be pushing out a lot of air and the air is not that warm, compared to fan #2. But then again, the culprit could be the lamp blower (#3), as you point out in some of your videos.
    What the heck did I do wrong when I cleaned the projector and took out a pound of dust from everywhere, including the fans?
    Why is is getting so hot so QUICKLY even though the fans are spinning? (I checked that the fans are pointing in the right direction, BTW 😀)
    If it turns out I need to replace the power fan or the lamp blower fan (#3), do any of you know where can I buy them in Europe or America without having to wait a month for them to arrive from China???
    THANKS A LOT!

    Hi Frank - I have followed the instructions as per your video. Very helpful. However, when I put the power cord on, it does not power on. After pressing the black switch that needs to remain pressed, it does not do anything. The power led blinked once for a millisecond and then it just went dead. Any help would be appreciated.

  • @avonord

    Really clear instruction. Thanks. I followed the instruction for cleaning the blower fan of broken glass. After I put it back together, all the fans turned on except the blower fan for 2 seconds, and then it turns off with flashing green power light. Any idea? Did I break something? I took it apart and put it back together a few times and still the same. I even tested the blower fan with a 9v battery and it does spin.
    Edit: it turns out I didn’t connect the upper main board to the lower main board properly. The power pins were connected but not the data pins on the other side.

    I have a BenQ 1070+ projector. Sometimes it works for more than 2 hours without any problem, and sometimes it shuts down after 20 minutes and shows a red "temp" signal. Note that I always use the same display settings. What do you think is causing this?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  4 місяці тому

      Its likely a fan. Which fan? not sure. I'd check the service menu and see which fan is throwing the error. My guess is either the exhaust fan(near the lamp) or the DMD fan

    My Benq out of nowhere, started to shut down àfter 3 minutes of usage.
    Opened ànd cleaned. Noticed that a fan (left) is not working. I've replaced it. Did not help. Then I've decided to replace also the mid fan that blows into the lamp. Also didn't help, lamp shutting down because of overheating. All fans are blowing now, into the right direction.
    What else can I check/do?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  Рік тому +1

      Check the service menu to see what fan it is. Also be sure you replaced the fans with the same exact model or it may not work. service menu - Press Menu, then press Enter/Source at the same time. Use the arrow keys to navigate to box 4. Fans can still spin yet not report their status properly. Usually its the blower fan or system fan(near the lens) but I have seen all of them fail at one time or another.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 місяці тому

      its probably a loose or unseated mainboard. usually that's a bad connection between the mainboard and the DMD card. or the DMD itself.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  Місяць тому

      In that case it probably had dust build up on the fan blades. That will lower the air foil effect and prevent enough air from moving. A good cleaning would probably solve your issue.

    Hey, Frank do you have a website or way to contact you? I just put a new lamp in my BenQ after my lamp exploded. It runs for a few minutes and then shuts off with a red light on the lamp. I'm going to watch the video and try to fix it myself but if I can't fix it, I'd like to see about sending it in to you for repair.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  3 роки тому

      I have an email on the about page about halfway down. It might ask you for a captcha to display it. Helps prevent spammers. I'd turn it up on its right side(from the back) and get a cotton swab and push against the turbine blower fan inside the lamp basket. For some reason when these have exploding lamps the quarts tends to fly into that fan housing. The fans have very little torque and a tiny jam is all you need to shut it down. If the fan is stuck, a gentle push up or down will free the glass and then it should fall out the square opening. ua-cam.com/video/zQl5rxPHG-o/v-deo.html This fan is the one I mean. I would expect a temp led though, not a lamp led.
      I imagine you have a new lamp assembly. Does your color start to get wobbly right before it turns off? A cheap lamp assembly with an incorrect ND filter can cause early shutdowns by confusing the color wheel sensor.
      You might want to check the service menu to see if you have any fan errors recorded. Press Menu, then Source and Enter at the same time. You will get some boxes on the upper left side. Use the arrow keys and back to navigate. I think its box 3 or 5 that has the errors recorded.

    • @Bystronicman08
      @Bystronicman08 3 роки тому +1

      @@FixitFrank Thanks, I'll try the cotton swab advice and see if that helps. I do have a brand new lamp assembly. I haven't noticed the for getting wobbly before shutting off but I'll pay close attention to that the next time I cut it on and check it. I got the lamp from Pureland Supply and heard that they're pretty reputable so I'd be disappointed to hear that I got a cheap lamp from them. Okay, awesome. I'll try service menu and see if it has any errors on it and then get back to you. It'll probably be a few days before get around to it though. Thanks again for your advice so far, I really do appreciate it.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  3 роки тому

      If you got it from Pureland, you are OK. Those are fine lamps. I always ask though because there are so many "bottom feeders" out there who use those bad IR filters. I actually run a new Purelandsupply lamp in my HT1075 at home and its great.

    So a friend gave me one of these yesterday, he said it's been overheating and the color has been going out within a few minutes of turning it on. Said if I could fix it I could keep it since he just bought a new one. I haven't been able to recreate his issues. I accessed the service menu and there are no faults or errors. Temp #1 stays at 200, temp 2 and 3 show 0. All of the fans stay on anywhere between 2000 and 2500 RPM, but fan 3 occasionally drops to 0. I can tell it needs cleaned very badly which I can take care of, but I don't know much about these things. Does anyone know if these are normal temps and RPMS and if temp 2 and 3 should be showing something or should those be at 0?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 роки тому

      If fan 3 is going to 0 intermittently, it's probably the source of the overheating. That fan and the exhaust fan are known problems. I had to replace the DMD fan in mine as well. Those speeds are pretty normal sounding but not the drop to 0. You can buy a fan kit for the W1070 on ebay that works in these. They are basically the same in that regard.

    • @thecrazycatdad
      @thecrazycatdad 2 роки тому

      @@FixitFrank Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately I was able to recreate his issues. After 15 or 20 minutes it loses all color and flickers rapidly. I checked fans and temp while this was happening and temp held steady at 220 and all fans were around their target rpm. Fan 3 hasn't hit 0 again. Turning the projector off and back on seems to fix it until another 15 minutes or so, then it goes back to flickering. Your videos on these are great, btw. I'll probably be bingeing them just because they're relaxing to watch.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 роки тому

      The flickering is probably the color wheel starting to go. It might also be dust on the sensor. But since it's running for 15min it's probably just the wheel. It's warming up and starting to drag on its hub. You might be able to clean it up if you separate the wheel from the stator. They will pop apart. I've found getting some alcohol in the gap and letting it run down can loosen it up. New wheels are pretty cheap. Either way you're on the right track.

    • @thecrazycatdad
      @thecrazycatdad 2 роки тому

      @@FixitFrank Thanks! I'll have to get it open again to get a better look. If I decide to just replace the wheel is there a certain one you recommend or are they all basically the same quality?
