  • This Optoma UHD60 projector had a new lamp assembly installed but it would not work. After a replacement lamp had the same response, the customer sent it in for an exam. The issue was a common Optoma issue where the index mark of the color wheel flaked off.

    Hello Frank
    I've been watching your videos for a long time. Thank you very much for the great videos
    I learned a lot and your videos also helped me start my small business.
    I solved this problem with the sticker a little differently 😁
    with a black acrylic pen.
    I simply paint the sticker after a total of 3 layers.
    Stickers that I used came off after a short time.
    Once the paint is dry I do the next layer.
    works really well and doesn't come off again.
    greetings from Germany

      Seriously? My videos helped you with your business? That is super cool!! I really like your idea with the sticker. I have done that with stove paint(high temp paint) but acrylic sounds interesting and much easier to deal with. Thank you so much for the tip and I am honestly amazed that my videos could help you like that. It's the first I have heard this and It really makes me happy to hear. Thank you again for letting me know.

    Great video. For me and lots of others that is still substantial amount of noise from color wheel, I have UHD40 and it is mounted overhead. When I manually turn of color wheel throught the service menu there is it just fan noise which is berable but with color wheel on, it just sucks. If it is off you do not have fluid picture in HDR mode. Thought that this replacement of color wheel will made me do it but it is actually the same noise what I have. It needs a hush box unfortunately. Thank you for video.

    That's rather odd, 5 segments wheel. I haven't seen them in Optoma projectors. 23:42 the gloves are the hindrance for putting the index tape on, of course Frank is aware of that. Great job. Nicely done.

    Great video. Used this yesterday to fix my UHD65 which had become very noisy. I broke one segment in the colour wheel while fixing the screws in the motor but superglued it back in and left it overnight. Has worked for an hour but time will tell! Now as silent as a mouse.

    You have the best videos. I cleaned my Panasonic PT-AX200U LCD Projector and you gave me good guidance on how to take it apart. I went a little far in cleaning everything with the optics but eventually got all the glass aligned. There may be some slight green in the picture but hardly noticeable. I ordered a new lamp from Projector Central for $162. It lasted 6 months and then had this weird flickering I thought maybe it was a bad cable or power supply but it was the lamp because when I put in the old lamp it was fine. They sent me a new lamp and now the picture is perfect again. 👍 whew. Next projector I hope to get laser but maybe this will last me for many years??? Not sure.

    Thank you for the video of the uhd60 teardown.
    I hope you can advise me of how to correct an issue that I have with the lens. I have recently changed the old lens with a new one due to burned coating. After the exchange when I focus the projection image one side is getting de-focused/blurry. Is there anything that I am missing as I did return everything back as it was originaly. I hope you can give me an advice, I am quite tech savvy but seems that this one I can't solve on my own. Do I need to adjust somethning else?

    • @FixitFrank

      I don't know if it has a specific name. I also suspect it's not something you can buy from a normal electronics supply company. They tend to be pretty specialized. That said, I would suggest emailing Pureland supply's support email and see if they can help. (support at purelandsupply.com ) As long as you are in the USA, they should be able to help you since they sell lamps.

    Hi Frank. Thanks for your video on the UHD60. Only 418 hours on my projector. The HDMI stopped working on both of the ports. VGA input works great. Any ideas? Do you a have a link for a motherboard replacement? Checked cables/ refresh rates and different input devices...

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 дні тому

      418 hours? Dang. that's awful. Optoma really dropped the ball on this series. They all have these issues. The HDMI chip probably is the problem. You don't want to replace the mainboard. They are stupid expensive. There is a chance that just the TVS diode array failed and is preventing/protecting the chip or the chip itself failed. Your best bet (aside from replacing the projector) is to have the TVS diodes checked on the HDMI inputs and have them replaced if they are bad and possibly the HDMI chip itself. Mainboard would easily be $5-700. HDMI chip and TVS diode replacement should be well under that. Id suggest using HDMI surge protectors in the future.This seems to be a very common failure on these.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  7 місяців тому

      Hi! most likely one of the flex cables to the dmd card is not seated right. these use 2 dmd controllers to drive the dmd chip and if one half is not right, then it usually points to a bad connection in the LVDS circuit and in these that tends to be the 2 flex cables or one of the other dmd connectors.

    Frank - Got one of these, been running like a champ for long time but bulb was long past it's prime. Replaced it.. was fine, but the fan was starting to make an awful racket. Well it's not got solid red lamp light and flashing power light - manual says that's a lamp failure, but both the old and new lamp do the same time. Possible it's actually the fan that has failed? Still seems to turn without issue, but it was making quite a racket before it al went south.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  11 місяців тому

      what you heard was probably the color wheel starting to tear itself up. If it was a fan, you would get a temp light warning. My money if on the index mark on the color wheel or a segment that came loose and now the wheel is jammed.

      I would see what the LEDs are flashing. If they indicate bulb/lamp failure, I would check the color wheel sensor. Its also possible its the lamp itself(I dont know how old it is). I believe that is a fan error. Check the turbine/blower fan that feeds air into the lamp assembly. They can get jammed from an old lamp burst. I think there are 3-4 fans inside this model. One of them is causing this error. Be sure to verify all fans are free to spin and not blocked by debris or bits of glass.

    My UHD60 was all good till it went out, its not the bulb and had no power going to the bulb so i pulled the power supply out. At 44:19, there is that color wheel sensor with the 2 yellow wires, where does the other end connect to? I just cant see where it plugs in to. Can you help? I doubt i fixed it, replaced 4 of the mosfets but figured ide put it all back together and see if i got lucky.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  Рік тому

      that is a thermal breaker that shuts down the projector if it gets too hot. I think it goes to the mains supply but I cant remember.

    • @waterbug1999
      @waterbug1999 Рік тому

      @FixitFrank yeah, my dumb as* finally found out where it went. After all back together still dead. Color wheel kicks on, fans kick in then red light saying bulb. It's not the bulb, I have no 12vdc coming out of the socket (and i had the switch taped down for the door safety) , which led me to pull the power supply out. Saw some videos about a mosfet going out. I replaced the 4 in a row, but still nothing. Found a used power supply on ebay but waiting for crappy optoma to get back to me on how much a bran new one is.

      @waterbug1999 Рік тому

      @FixitFrank me again.. so I ordered a new power supply from optoma for $68 bucks, had it all back together, and the same thing happends. So as far as I know, only reason I'm not getting and power out of the socket going to the lamp is 1: the switch to the hatch which I know works and 2: that thermal resistor is burned out / open. I get a small resistance on it. I'm assuming as it gets hot the resistance should change but it doesn't. You think or seen those go out?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  Рік тому

      Those thermal breakers are just open and close. It's not a thermistor. It's a bimetal switch inside that thing and it just pops open once it reaches its threshold. Are you sure it's not the bulb? You said you replaced the mosfets in the ballast but what voltage were you getting to the ballast? you should be getting 380DC on the power input to the ballast from the mains supply. If you are not getting that 380, the power factor correction circuit isnt running.

    • @waterbug1999
      @waterbug1999 Рік тому

      @FixitFrank yeah, i took it to work. Measured like 6 ohms. Put it over a heat gun and you can hear it switch open and went into mega ohms. Cooled off and went back down to 6 ohms or so. Guess my UHD60 is junk, just tested it after confirming and still nothing. Color wheel spins, fans kick on, then bam just a red blinking bulb light. Tried 3 new bulbs so it can't be bulbs. Plus I checked output and nothing. Owell, time to get a new projector. Thanks!

    Hi Frank- great video; I followed it to replace my colour wheel on my UHD30, but when I turn it on, the fan, lamp and c wheel all start but after a few attempts I get the red lamp failure lights- do I need to do something to "reset" things after changing the c wheel?

      UPDATE: Having cleaned the colour wheel sensor and reseated the colour wheel sensor ribbon and the control panel ribbon the red lights have stopped, but I still have a problem. Now when I turn the projector on the lamp, fans and colour wheel start up initially but after about 30 seconds the lamp turns off and the main blower fan goes into idle mode- with a blue power light only showing on the control panel.
      Any ideas gratefully received!

      have you replaced the lamp assembly recently with a cheaper option? Some use the wrong IR cut filter glass and will cause this issue. also the index sensor wires can break at the PCB but the glue holds it so it looks connected. I'd check that.

      @@FixitFrank thanks so much for your reply Frank, I have seen on the forums how busy you are. I have not touched the original fan/fan case and the lamp looks good (no white residue or bumps). I inspected the wires where the sensor attaches to the PCB and they are not broken - although there is a tiny (2mm?) cut on the pink wire where I can see the bare wire; I put insulating tape around it but it made no difference. I presume it's not as simple as pulling that wire out of the socket, cutting the end off and putting it back in? Can't seem to find a replacement index sensor online....

      Ok. After yet another evening of poking around looking for possible problems (the only thing I found was a jst (I think that's what I called) connector block seams loose at the far rear left side of the PCB) I am going to have to reluctantly admit to feet and send my projector off to optoma - I will let you know if I find anything interesting! Thanks for your suggestions.

      Final update. As I feared would happen, having paid Optoma £100 to collect/return and "diagnose" my PJ problem, they have asked for £571 to replace the motherboard. Obviously not economically viable so will be selling it for spares. My confidence has been shaken a bit in Optomas and think I will try an Epson/Benq/Sony (Epson EH-TW6150 looks like poss the only one in my price range). Thanks all

    Frank, I was told you could help me fix my JVC dla-rs25-u. It had a purple streak on the screen so I opened it up to align the mirrors and I think I ruined some of the glasses in the optical block while trying to clean them. When I put the projector back together I turned it on and the projector was completely yellow. Some guy said that I should ask you for help because he said you could source me out parts or something. Thanks for reading.

    I have the wrong color wheel in my h7850 dlp projector, it needed an optima uhd 60 color wheel but I purchased a fake knockoff color wheel from ebay probably for a 720p projector maybe it's just scam item setup to trick buyers since it has the same hardware number and claims to be compatible when it's not, And the segments are completely different.
