I have to say that I'm a bit surprised that you never talked about stuffing a sealed box with polyfill to tune it as that's one way to help a box that's too small (not way too small mind you) behave more like one that's the right size. Then there's the option of placing stuff in a box that's too large to displace air volume and make it smaller. closed cell foam sheeting (insulation) works well for this.
Why do they keep you in a cage?
Because we need him and can't let him escape. :)
LIFT4POWER He seems to be pretty cheerful and productive despite being locked in a cage for his working day. Must be some form of Stockholm syndrome.

HOW In Tarnation Would I Fit A Ported Box For 2 Kicker L7 15s In A 2000 Honda Accord Coupe Plz Help Me Out
+Nissan Fan good luck my friend i have a 2012 coupe with 2 12s whole trunk used up it sucks ...took it all out today gonna down size to one 12 and mold it into the driver side corner of the truck so i can get my cargo space back
@NISSAN FAN Easy buy American cars like a SUBURBAN!
Yep, still confused
Me too. I'm trying to figure out which box for a single 10" sub, all this told me was what I already knew, somewhere between 0.5 - 1.5 cu ft.
@@incorporeal3793 subwoofer manufacturer should have recommendations.
@Alex Harris i got a free copy of bassbox 6 pro from my cousin but i don't if it is accurate or not.
no doubt.. just need a rule of thumb type kinda answer “hey if ur box is this size, it would roughly need to be between these sizes for ish-amount of hz” as well as some kind of formula to steer me in a direction .. not all of us have this computer stuff..
Devan Key what I find usually is that low hz are usually big boxes
So if you were to lengthen the port in that box. Would it lower the tuning ot would it raise the tuning because the box would be smaller? Or would it cancel itself out and stay the same cuz the port was longer but the box was made smaller? Tia. Love your guys videos. :)
So you tune the port how?

Thanks so much! Very clearly explained and shown! Nice shit dude
So what other apps or software do you find especially useful when preparing to build a box?
101 video series sounds good!
Hey man thank-you this video helped a lot but I was wondering. All the boxes I am looking at on the site seem to be tuned wicked high. Like 42- 43hz. With small enclosures and larger ones isn't that gonna sound a little too high for say an eclipse 8812 sub?
This was an awesome video! There's one question that I have that the Internet has yet to answer... I'm doing some research on building a 1x15" bass guitar cabinet, and I'm trying to figure out what frequency would be best to tune to. I play a 5 string, and my lowest string (B) produces a frequency of 31Hz. Should I tune my cabinet to that frequency? Or would it be best to go lower (~25Hz), or perhaps higher to my E (41Hz)?
The frequency response of the woofer is 38-3k Hz, not sure if that would be needed.
Ideally, I would love for my woofer to produce the fundamental of my low B, but woofers that can do that, at acceptable THD, SPL, and Sensitivity, are kind of hard to come by.
What programs do you use for box design?
Building a similar box to that one should the woofer be mounted closer or further away from the port exit in the baffle?
I build a box for 6 12’s. Come to find out I tuned the box to 18hz. Is this good for low bass or did I tune box to low?
best website.. i love the free shipping
+ObeyHipHop the shipping is included in the price so don't feel too special there.
Good video!
yes i understand ..get the specs of your speaker say 1.50-2.0 for vented and the 1.50 is regular bass while you get the 2.0 its gonna boom but how far off can you be say you get a 2.10 will it be forgiving? i know too much air space bass sound muddy while to little you hear the box itself so box bass
Bro i hv a infinity kappa 120.9 plz tell me the dimensions for the boxand the size of the vent from which i get a deeper bass from which bass goes very far thank u very much
How about this, I give u my spec & the space available for my speakers can you Figure the dimensions for with ur program
What tuning program do you use I also build subwoofer boxes
Hello Allen. I have a question. I have a pre fab box (that my old co worker who is an installer) that my JL 12w3v3 is in. Me looking online, I found out it has a tuning frequency of 38 hz. That’s one of the reasons I don’t like pre fab because I think that tuning frequency is high. It’s ported and it’s 1.75 cubic liters. How can I get the frequency lowered without getting another box? I told him in the beginning btw that I would pay him to build me a box.
i know this is an old video but i have an important question .so i am building a dual 18 inch sub woofer enclosure using the KAPPA PRO 18LF-8 which has a usable frequency range of 38 Hz - 0.7 kHz and a resonance of 32 Hz.what frequency should i tune the box i am building to ,32Hz or 38Hz ?
Wow, that was NO help at all.
When does the series come out that you mention?
I remember tuning sealed boxes in the 90’s for SPL before ported became the go to. For 63Hz it was 1.25cf. 15” Petra Prowler. Anything below 50Hz the sub sounded like crap but at the tuning frequency it ripped your head off. The second harmonic at around 126Hz was deadly as well but they ended up putting the 80Hz cap on Termpro.
In the 90's people would run up to 20 subwoofers or more in undersized boxes to extract maximum spl and it worked. Now I think it is slowly getting back to that again. Modern competition vehicles have 3 to 4 subs with a crap load of power on them and HUGE enclosures, but I just saw a New Deaf Bonce Truck with 20 entry level 12's in it and it was insane!
What kind of turning frequency could I expect out of a sealed 0.80 cf enclosure from a 10 inch subwoofer?
i have a woofer speaker 18" rated power 1000 wats, 8 0hms impedance. wud u give me any idea about the size the lenght, width, and the deep of the box to get good performance?
I have 2 Alpine type R 2ohm on a Alpine 1000 amp and I don't know if it's the ported box or the subs but it doesn't give me a really good bass and after a while the sub start to get cooking why?
So if I need a 4 cu. ft. Ported box for a single 15” the manufacturer recommends a port displacement of 0.52 cu. ft and woofer displacement is 0.21 Cu . Ft. Do I need a total of 4.73 Cu Ft or 4.21 Cu.ft?
What computer program are you running
different cars also determine the frequency as well . it can make it higher or lower depending on the cabin size of the vehicle's .
me personally I like ported boxes becouse i can change the tuning too different frequency for music and SPL
What happens when you play below the port tuning ? The sub unloads. Also he should explain why its important to have proper power ported vs sealed and the the benefits of a sub sonic filter for ported boxes.
I did not know you had to add the port volume to the actual airspace for the sub. Good to know
make speaker boxes based on speaker specifications?
Hi, I'm kinda new to the basshead world. I have 2 jbl gt5-10d's, and would like to know what the best box dimensions would be for the best sound and performance.
i want too build a box for 4 15'' kicker comps in my 1996 jeep i need some help ?????
Any better bass with a probox?
if one measurement of a piece for my box is supposed to be 13.99 inches can i go ahead and cut it to 14 inches?

18inx29inx6.5in for a 12in sub with a depth of 4 29/32. Its ported with a 1in hole in the front.
Recommended sealed is 1.25 cu ft
Recommended ported is 2.0 cu ft
Sub is a Rockford Fosgate Punch RFZ2412
Any suggestions?

hmm? I still do not see how to tune the box!.. I must admit it was an "open question" and the answer was an open response, next time the question will be: what are the specific steps to tune a ported box for XYZ vehicle?.. by the way I'm an Audio, video and security technician, you can do things the professional way or the do it yourself way.
install winisd and/or bassbox pro. winisd is free and works great. take nett volume, add the port volume (as explained here ^^^^) add the woofer deisplacement and you have a grosse volume.
it only tune in vent box if you don't understood you can go google and go re audio they have the box calculator you well find out the tune you want and understand.
@@stephenhui2246 but what about the vehicle how would my vehicle affect the sound

How do you know what box would be perfect for your subs?
I got 2 small ish wedge shaped sealed boxes with 500w 12" subs and its true they have great sound at around 45 to 50hz, enough to make your ears do that funny thing, below 40hz it's loud but not as loud as that
Hi, I have a few questions in regard to the bass response graphic: 1. Why is so important -3db and why do you want to have a flat response? 2. -3db is the point where you want to have the desired port frequency? 3. If I make a box with a peak at +3db that means I'm gaining +3db output at the peak frequency? 4. What is the difference between tuning a box at 20Hz vs. let's say 40Hz or higher. 5. When do I know that I'm at the maximum volume box of a certain woofer on the graphic. Thank you, I appreciate your effort.
***** Thanks
***** Hip hop since I was a little child, sometimes rock and for relax opera. But, for the car audio system I'm only for hip hop for the love of lows and loud bass.
***** I plan on getting an Audiopipe TXXBD1 12.. I do not know what my enclosure should be tuned too? I want LOUD boomy rap bass, but I am scared 35hz is too low?? I want to be able to hit lows, and midbass up to like 60hz. Please help?
More often than not, most prefab boxes will be tuned very high. I assume this is for efficiency of the output. However this also creates spikes in your response. If you have a prefab ported enclosure that's too small and tuned too high, it won't have a Similar response to a correct enclosure. His program automatically calculates the tuning frequency requires for a given size enclosure. If, however, the enclosure is not only too small, but also tuned too high, your response will be boomy on high frequencies and nullified on lower frequencies.
hi, im planning on building a ported box for 2 15's and with the data sheet i got the box is tuned to 40 Hz but i want the tuning to be around 35 Hz. how do i lower the tuning? the box is already max size vor my trunk.
do i need to make the port bigger or smaller?
+official bassrecordz make it bigger
name for the program pls
Can't wait because box build my rack my brain
I built a box and didn't account for woofer displacement it is a single 12 inch basic woofer will it suffer?
It will not perform optimally and your tuning will be higher
what would happen if I play a mid range of midbass speaker at its Fs frequency
Would u please name the programe name u use plz.???🤗
Best box for two 8” massive hippo subs
clean! loud!
tuned low as they can go bass!
Wilson Prather build box? What you tune too? I just accidentally built a box that tuned to 18hz. Haven’t tried yet. Think that’s to low or good for bass?
I see the Box designer and Builder decided to not sign his signature,
but leave his shoe print in the bottom of the Box instead. My favorite part.!
Pretty good video if you understand airspace but I understand some of the confusion for some people. Its simple terms, not technical.
I have NVX jad 800.4 on two sets of polk components. I used sound deadener in all fours doors I'm trying to get a cleaner sound any suggestions?
an EQ can help. but you want to check your source and make sure your amp is tuned properly.
how do i measure the volume of my box and if the box is to big do i loose preformance?
Multiply the width by the height and depth. This includes the area of the port and area of the woofer. And the performance depends on what you are looking for. The bigger the box, theoretically, the lower it can go and vice versa.
Edward Johnson thanks. but i accualy learned abput this at school today but it still helps me alot ;)
JKGamer O man, I'm jealous you're getting started so early! Follow your passion, man. It pays off! Do what you love and the paycheck follows :)
Edward Johnson thank's ;) btw my passion is music if u asked :D
Yes, The subwoofer performance will be loose. You’ll probably lose performance. Tighten your subwoofer by building the correct size.
hi IM putting 0gauge power amp wire in my 99 expedition and was wanting to know how much of a difference will it make
MyMRWAYNE big .. less clipping better voltage flow.
Ooh
What's it looked like with 4th order?
I have 2 15's, and I have to roll my windows down for them to sound like they aren't clipping, but I know my amp is tuned correct. Is there any way to fix this, or at least avoid the clipping noise while listening to my music loudly with my windows up? I have a 2002 nissan frontier Crew cab and there's not much room in it, so I'm sure that's why it's doing this. I just want to know if there is a way to avoid it.
its not my subs its because i had no air space in the truck the subs had no room to actually flex. by rolling my windows down it gave the air somewhere to go. it was not in a ported box it was a sealed enclosure i've been to a professional install place and have since learned enough also no longer have the vehicle and have gone much further with my setup being that i have a vehicle with much more air space.
its not that they wouldnt get loud it was almost as if the restriction was causing them to bottom out and not hit properly
How much is your snuff bill each day...looks like you are stocking nuts for winter
I want to tune a box to 25Hz but it would peak at 37. Does that mean i cant play around 19Hz? Or is it normal that the peak frequency is a little bit higher than the tuning frequency ?
Der Lennox how big your box is?
What program do you personally use to build/create a subwoofer box?
Term Pro
winisd or bassbox pro.
Two 10inch subwoofers in ported box tuned to 35hz or 32hz with a 500 amplifier ... ???
When I was running simulations on hornresp, it seemed to me to get more consistent SPL responses when total volume including the port was preserved. Adding a bigger port to the same sized box area sans port made it louder, as if it was in a slightly bigger box that was tuned the same. It could be the hoffman iron law at work.
What will make a difference is the bulk of material of which the port walls are constructed. This is where thin walled plastic tubes have an obvious advantage: they don't rob as much volume as an mdf port. You can also see that it will take less material to use the box walls as part of the port, than do a port in the centre that is not supported by the box walls. If you can brace a subwoofer correctly, you can use very thin wood. I have a good performing 12 and the box was made of 3/8" plywood. The exterior dimensions are 18" x 18" x 22" to enclose an internal volume of 3.5 cubic feet or therabouts in an enclosure weighing 25 lbs including the neodymium speaker.
sonic does all the sound come from the port or the subwoofer itself?
Evagoras koullouros Both, the port is the backwave.
Great work Allen looks like you are having fun without all the bull crap from Soundman.
You showed lots of cool stuff on the Term-Lab software but you did not answer the question. How do you tune a subwoofer enclosure?
I think what he fails to say is, you tune a subwoofer enclosure by changing its airspace. For Instace, a Digital Design 12 should have 2.5 cubic feet at 32hz. So you build the box to have 2.5 cubic feet of air space. If the enclosure is vented, you calculate the vent space into the air space. This gives you the gross air space. The air space without the vent is your net air space. To calculate air space, you want your formula to equal what your cubic feet needs to be. 1 cubic foot equals 1728 square inches. So to determine your volume needed, you take your speaker specs, let's say 2 cubic feet and multiply that by 1728. Now we take your enclosure formula Depth x Width x Height. You put your dimensions in until your formula equals the 2x1728.
Some1 help me please.
I just built my first box for a Tahoe. It’s for 6 subs. Anyway, I accidentally built it to be a 18hz box.
Is that good or bad? Good for bass? I haven’t tried it. Just curious if I wasted my time building this box.

also what subs do you have
Is 38 hz a huge difference to 43hz? How will the music differ?

Liko And Dezz well if you got space go with a ported box, check the resonant frequency aka Fs of the sub it should be on the specs list. tune the box at least 5hz below that

I have a sealed sub box for two 12’s and it pretty much became a printed box because when I got it, it was missing the wire connectors on the back so each enclosure basically had a port, I’m not looking for good quality just loud bass, would it increase the my bass to cut the holes bigger they are round right now and about two and a half inches across
Hello, I made a 14" H x 16" L x 35" W for Sundown 2 SA 12". Is that good for those subs?

Those measurements Sound good. Does it look like the right size. How does it sound? You can always cut it down in size. That’s how I do it.

Is there anywhere i can get this software for free or a alternative?
winISD is free and will give you the basics. I used it to build my box for my 10" Kicker. Sounds amazing. You can choose a pre loaded woofer from the included database or enter you own T/S (Thiele and Small) parameters usually included with a woofer and create your own.
Thanks It worked nice
Ok so how do you tune a port?
Damn bro, you couldn’t change the port size on the program to show us the effect? Wtf?
What? So a "Boomer Box" provides less deep bass? Confused.
Think of it as peaky u get a bump in output (bass) but its more of a peak so it rolls off quicker
Is that my box u guys built for me
But look guys if you feel like somebody is kicking you back use 4 inchs pipe and 8 inchs long for 10 inchs subs and 12 inchs also for 40-50 hz.. for SQL 4 inchs pipe and at least 20 to 32 inchs long and the end of the pipe it needs to be 1 inch close to one of the wall to get 16-25 hz
cvr 15 inch kickers in a sealed box was dope have cvx 12s in a ported box highly disappointed
probably wrong tuning bro. box too small, poorly fabricated or wrong tuning
Just saying custom box pay a shop to make your box we have software to make it. Just buy a box made closest to speaker specs you won’t miss much for small differences. Audiophiles will disagree unless your in competitions it really doesn’t matter that much. Your sub won’t blow up like they want you to think.
Box tuning can be accomplished by taking Trigonometry, Geometry, And Algebra all over again. Have fun.
Hey commenters. You can down load tunning calculator app to figure this out.
Lol
¿Fumar mucha piedra muchacho?
Just go to www.down4soundshop.com and get a real box made to spec to what ever sub you got no bullshit wouldn't you want a badass box
why step in the box? lol
its not just the size of the box that tunes a sealed enclosure ,,,its the thickness of the wood used...this is always overlooked .if the wood is 3/4 it will sound different than if the wood is 3" thick and its not always the thicker the better ...#truth
cliff dixon well if you use thicker wood obviously you're going to change the tune because you're messing with the air space
Dude's cap has sensitive eyes and needs sunglasses indoors
Just tune it till u find the right tune and how u like it to sound as long it dont distort youll be fine bass on
Aka boomer boxes blow
