Yes, thank you. Now I actually understand what it means for a sub box to be "tuned" to a specific frequency - I would love to figure it out just by measuring, I bought a car with a sub in it, and the previous owner didn't have any idea about what wattage anything was or type of speaker - he said he just asked the sound guys to give him the best for a certain amount of money - I just ordered an oscilloscope, so as it's on its way I have to figure out what exactly type of speaker it is (it's a Digital Design that is all I know), no labels or markings on it whatsoever except 'DD' and a huge magnet with Digital Designs imprinted on it (it's a 10" speaker hole but the speaker is about 9" I'm not sure exactly) - so I'm going to remove the speaker again, take a bunch of pictures and measurements and send it to Digital Designs to see if I can get the specs for it. I am an audiophile who wants it to sound perfect, but thanks, I just came across your channel, I'll scope out the rest of your videos :-D Thankss

I am just seeing some of your videos now in June 2022. I usually dont comment on videos I watch but I really wanted to take a second to say that your videos are very informative, and they are easy to understand what's going on, and most importantly why you are showing the tests and simulations you are, to me is just as important as the actual steps involved. The frequencies are called sine waves also know as test tones. They usually come in 0db ( full scale ) -5db and -10db.
For this test of finding box tuning you can use -5db or -10db. 0db at too loud of volume could damage your sub. 0db is only for SPL competition.
Def keep your head unit or radio half to 2/3 volume. You would use -5db tones from 20-70 Hz for subs unless you know about what your box tuning is. Start at 20Hz and go up to 70Hz by 1Hz or 2Hz ( 20,21,22 or 20,22,24,26 )
If u think u know the tuning, Ex: builder says 33 Hz tuning on your ported box. Then test 30Hz - 38Hz -5db tones. You should be in the right range to find the tuning by the least movement of the sub if the box is built half decent lol.
Test tones are also used to set gains on Head units, Phones, ( source audio ) DSP’s & amplifiers.
Hope this helps anyone undertstand who may have missed something in the video.

The problem is not everyone but a lot of people don’t know anything about frequency Hz, clipping, and Soundsystem tuning so they don’t know anything so they just play heavy frequencies and a lot of times blow out the speakers and subwoofers and then some new that have custom built sound systems had a friend or a shop do it and they don’t know anything like I said, and end up doing the same thing with that as well blowing it up I’m not seeing everyone but a lot of people, especially those who just want heavy bass, and know nothing about it

The most effective method is to test for the impedance modulus.
    For correct tuning.
Not for those awful sounding "Burp" efforts.
    But a correctly tuned Helmholz
You will get an equal ripple reading of modulus.

One thing I didn't understand, low frequencies in all speakers forcing the woofer the move more back and forth as you go down. and med to high frequencies the woofer need less movement but much faster ones. that's why subs have bigger rubber diameter with slow bigger movement and tweeter are smaller and almost have non. so I don't understand how looking on the speaker can give any information. I did some testing my self and find that you can seat in front, play the frequencies and most lower audible frequency you hear is mostly the box tune frequency,
like if 30 is barley heard (not felt) and 40 is audible to your ears then it's probably 40 hz.

Is tuning all based on the box? Or can bigger displacement subwoofers effect tuning? I recently bought a box (2 15s) that was custom built and is tuned at 32hz. So would that mean that any 15 inch subwoofer I put in the box still be at or around 32Hz?

Hi brother jacob, got a few questions.
(Side Note, Love my bass to hit lows that shake my soul and heart)
    1. Do the Hz of a Subwoofer, lets say a sub is tuned at 25-500hz. Should I build a sub box (ported) and tune it to 25hz aswell to compliment the sub's 25hz or not? or should i tune it higher to 35hz-40hz. Because most prefab/custom sub boxes are tuned at 32hz to 36hz. But most sub hz be around 24-27hz. I don't get it.
Like kicker compr's dual 10. Box is tuned to 30hz but subs go lower then that and are about 27hz.
    2. Is it a problem if I buy a amp to compliment my subs peak rms watts rating rather then the normal rms watts rating? Lets say i've got a kicker compr 12 the rms is 500watts and peak is 1000wats, most people say get a amp that is 500watts not 1000watts. But i personally want to get something in between, a 800watts amp would do. So is that a problem or not.
    3. How should i make my enclosure and sub be the hardest hitting and also loudest that people can hear me from blocks away and also can play lows so well my heart and soul feels it.
    Thats all bro

    • @JacobViral2
      @JacobViral2  9 місяців тому +1

Usually sub can play half octave below box tuning. Tune any lower then 30hz means you won’t want sub to play loud above 40hz. Always best to get a sub amp rated 140-200% rms power to have play room and not max amp out. Tune mid 30s to play to 26-30hz range, tune higher will be louder but not as lows.

my wife would kill me tho if i rolled around with my car looking like a carpentry shop, ive had to make my install stealth in the minivan, you can barely tell there are two 12s, or any wires in car all over...clean. when shes in car, i usually just turn the subs off and run highs/or run subs at low power via gain knob up front under dash, about 19 volts...barely pushing 200 watts...when hes not in, i crank them up near full power...tho two type rs @ 2ohm pound hard at 42 volts or near 900 watts lol
