A HUGE THANK YOU TO MY UA-cam CONTRIBUTOR WILLIAM BERG! - Авто та транспорт
Good video JP! Many people don't realize the electrical system is the number 1 thing to take care of when you add an aftermarket sound system.
What up JP? You should probably do some wiring diagrams for a multiple battery system so your followers use the correct fusing and or bussbar setups with fusing. Thanks keep up the awesome work sir.
He didn't do it huh? Sheesh.

This was really informative. I try to explain this to ppl all the time but the can't seem to grasp it. The way u explained is a little bit easier to understand. I'm going to start just sending them this video
Great video and good job on explaining how to fix dimming lights issues JP!!! 👍👍👍 I personally noticed and experienced that it also depends on the type of amps you use to run your car audio system!!! Some of the old school amps are harder on your electrical than the new amps that are being made now days!!! So with that being said people will normally have more dimming light issues and voltage drop problems if they use old school amps verse's the newer amps!!!
Thank you so much bro fr my first system I installed myself she’s running real nice she just makes the head lights dim and I just feel like it don’t hit as hard
Thanks for the informative videos JP. I'm actually looking into this issue. Basshead problems...

Deep breaths price! I’m about to upgrade my electrical on my 17 civic, I’ll see you at the shop soon!!
Great video can you give us a quick follow up video on how to select the proper size alternator and batteries for our electrical needs
6:30 LED headlights are the way to go!! 5500K to 6500K super bright white high lumens for $50 on Amazon worked for my 2011 Ford Edge! The LEDs include a ballast converter kit built-in btw. EASY to install!
This is all I ever wanted to know about for my car audio of hyponics brutos amps 3000watts rms driving MTX thunder 95 15” dual 2 ohms 1500 watts rms installed in Honda VR-V. Thank you very much and wish to have more knowledge on when I got no busy days to watch your U-tube vedio channel. Keep up your good job, more info for your dedicated subscriber viewers!❤️🔈
Another great video JP
Finally you put again the best song to start your videos!

This is an informative amazing video glad you thought to make it! funny you said Honda Civic I used to have a 2015 and I put two 12s in it and it constantly dimmed.
Thanks JP for this , this is great stuff I wanted to know

Appreciate the time and information, almost my 2nd year in 😂big 3 is next👍
You’re the man!!! Very helpful advice. What would you recommend for my system I’m putting in skar audio 12” , 800.1d amp, 4g ofc kit , lc2i pro all going into a 2021 Camry.
Awesome, this video answered my question...
Excellent video!! What would happen if you put an xp3000 in the engine bay?
Thanks for the video because i truly learned a lot. Now i know what to do...
Enjoy all your videos, I’ve learned a lot from them. I have a question, can I connect the cyber 12k battery to a 370 Mechman alternator directly for my sound system? Or will it damage the battery? If not this what would you recommend? I have a 2003 Tahoe.
Your new subscriber 😀 big fan of your work Mr Price....
This was a great video man, thanx heaps :-) :-) I've just gone the big 3!!! Would love to do business soon , big G'day from Australia :-) :-)
my local shop recommended upgrading my battery first with the reason being that i would only be draining the battery faster than the alt can charging for short periods of time compared to the amount of time it will have to recharge it. that holds true for me at least as long as i spend at least 50% of the time playing at moderate listening levels.
Thanks alot...I am learning alot from you👍🏽
Awesome video, Jonathan. Next video: How to wire up multiple batteries and what gauge wire to run from the engine compartment to the trunk! :-D
mortenmoulder that’s easy + to + - to - and anything over a true 1k zero gauge. You always want the biggest wire possible and over 1-2k watts as many runs as you can afford. I got gains all the way up to 14 runs of 1/0 gauge OFC wire and triple imputs.
Tammy Forbes yeah it might be easy, but I'm sure it's a video many people want to see. The question is more "How many batteries do I really need" ;-)
Jp your awesome keep up the good work
Great explanation JP. No mention of who provides your cables, are they easy to bend etc? Would rather get a kit from you than some jackwagon company .
Awesome video 👍🥂🔥
The answer to this question is very simple. I made a separate power bank to run my entire system completely separate from my vehicle, so none of my lights ever dim. I also have a solar panel charging my bank as the sun beats down daily and I then have a quick and easy "plug-n-go" set up to charge my bank with any extension cord and wall plug when ever I feel or can tell it needs to be charged. I know I went the most extreme way possible to ensure I didn't have lights dimming, but my thoughts on solving this whole problem was simply to eliminate it completely by building its own separate power source and system.
Can you use a dc-dc converter as a power source?
Thanks for making this video. I've tried explaining this to many people many times which usually results in a blank stare. If you truly want the headlights to stop dimming when the bass hits they need to be on a different circuit.
Have you never heard of capacitors and super capacitors before?
@@Hettdizzle if you're making enough amperage to feed your system and car your lights will never dim. That's a sign that you need a bigger alternator and or an extra battery/ multiple extra batteries. Lithium is much better then lead batteries and you wouldn't need as many
@@DTW-bx2vy my system is pretty well rounded off. 3500 invested for 2 12s and a 4500watt amp. Only upgrade I would do is swap out the agm for lithium and a good capacitor. Where it's at now all my bases are covered
You answered all my questions thank you
This answers everything I been looking for lol I ha e a 2006 lexus ess 330. I did big 3 and got 330w alternator with a die hard platinum battery and lights still dim at a red light ..thinking of adding capacitor..or should I just jump to another battery?
Love your videos!!!
I would like to know more about Gel cell batteries I'm a basshead from the early 90s and they were coming out then and some people liked them and some didn't my question is how have they improved over the years
Could you do a vid on making a clean engine bay wiring setup
Anything over 200 watts a alternator upgrade to above stock ratings unless it is 100 amps@2k rpm would be recommended, when it comes to extra battery, ensure your electrical current is high enough "over 100 amps@2k rpm for stock alternator" to supply both batteries and make sure you use a diode-less or relay based Battery Isolator! When it comes to upgrading your starting battery, choose something that has closed spiral cells and gel is based Preferably a Optima Red or Yellow top!
If you are running 2k or higher, you need additional battery, new vehicle battery, diode-less or relay based battery isolator with at least 200+ amp current capability and high current 200 amp and above alternator! You can find a Relay based 500 amp Isolator for $75 at new egg, one reason you need one in a two or more battery configuration is so you do not drain the starter battery while running your setup and not your engine!
I am loving the fact that my stock electrical in my 08 lincoln mkx is keeping up with the demands from my 4 1206 audiobahn subs and my a2300hcq audiobahn amp at .76ohm with only a cheap planet audio 10farad capacitor (more for a filter than powerbank) it must be a killer alt from the factory lol my 2000 gmc Denali went thru 3 stock alts running same system but instead of the capacitor I had a 2nd deep cell battery but could still draw enough current to stall the 350 V8 smh
I have a 40amp generator in my 71 VW beetle. Installing a Rubicon 1500 rms with 4 8" woofers 300 rms per sub. Would u recommend a battery as well as a capacitor?
I have the option to upgrade to a 55amp alternator but that will be done as a last case Scenario
just a thought from the mechanical side if running multiple alternators why not have two electrical systems for example you have five alternators keep one as the vehicles alternator then use the other four dedicated to the audio system just dont ground to the chassis and only ground to the aux battery's then your audio system could not dim the headlights or affect any other vehicle operation. Just something i have been thinking of trying anyway.
I have a Honda CRV 2017 I still have two twelves and amplifier but the trunk I use a lot for storage and groceries. Do you suggest I put it in the trunk and move it around when I need to or get an under the seat type of subwoofer?
Hay man if u don’t have room side by side is it possible to weld a shaft between alts to run one in front of the other so there’s no need for additional belts????????
Thanks for the info!
change all lights in your car to led they draw a fraction of the amps halogen bulbs require and it will fix dimming headlights to an extent since they require much less amps (sometimes .5 for led vs 2 to 5 amps for halogen headlights)
This is true. Mine were dimming off a little under 1k rms. I retrofitted my headlights into projectors with hid bulbs. And they stopped dimming. My interior lights and dash still kinda dim but I can barely see that. Have 120 amp alt. Don’t want to spend the 5-600 they want for mechman one for 1.8t jetta. Rather get a xspower battery for the trunk to help the area I have up front. Mine sits around 12.3 sometime 11.9 if I pound too long. But it keeps going. Car has over 200k so I’m not putting a lot of money into it.
They still dim bro
Buddy has 2018 GMC Sierra with upgraded after market audio. His lights dim pretty bad at high volumes
I have led headlights and they dim just like if they were halogen
I agressively hate LED headlights. Always looks like people have their brights on compared to halogen lights. Annoying af. People act like they need 2,000 watts of power just to be able to see the fucking road.
Question, if I want to add an XS power AGM to the back..what battery do I need to run under the hood? Deep cycle? Or another agm? Or just a regular car battery?
I have a 90 mazda b2200 and im installing the Twisted Sounds ts2.8 & ts150.4 amps. I already have a gm 140amp alternator installed but know its still small for system. What size alternator, battery or batteries you recommend?
What alternator should I get for a 05 V6 Ford explorer pushing 2 12s with a 1200 watt amp
Hey gotta question for you. I have 2 Sundown 12s and a 750watt Amp and it's not only my headlights that dim. My dash lights do it too and it kinda makes me wonder if I'm causing damage? What can I do that's cheap and easy for a fix? I thought about a capacitor but not sure I really need that. And not looking forward to one of those exploding in my trunk. I know you have to hook it up backwards to really make that happen but I've heard those could still explode even when they are hooked up correctly.. Can you help me out?
For instance is it possible to have to big of an alternator for the system? Would it be ok to get a 370 alternator if planning on upgrading the system in the future but only have a jl slash 1000.1 at the moment ? Thanks for any feedback
I have a 2005 Saab 9-3 right now using a rp.1500.1d amp my lights dims like crazy what do recommend a new battery? Under my hood I'm using a full throttle battery
Can you do a video and how to run a separate battery for subs?
So what should I do if I have the big 3 upgrade, high output alternator and and leds everywhere but still inside lights dim badly and even i strument cluster will fail at times? Dual battery or capacitor? Running Boss R3400D with 2 JBL clubs wired to 1 ohm at the amp. Thanks for any help!
Plan: 2x 240 amp alts (separate from stock) with 2x batts on each. Around 6000 watt RMS . IS that enough batteries? Roughly
Appreciate the information just getting into subs and this if valuable info
Hey jp .. what kind of mechman would upgrade to for a 2009 gmc canyon 5.0cylinder
Hey what xs batter do you recommend for scv3000 and zv5 15” just one battery well it will be my secondary connected to the amp?
Yep my civic coupe has dimming on only an 800 watt amp will be doing big 3.. might be going high output alternator but will avoid that if I can..
Great tips👍.......is that a mining rig in the back
And by the way I love it when my headlights dim to the bass notes , I’m actually getting a light show in my truck to display and dance to the beat… #justwait #comingsoon #myChevyBox #2023 😉

What about ferid compactors. wold they help or old tec? Been years and trying to get caught up!!
I think I might have bought a cheaper amp kit when I first installed it and I upgraded to a 1,200 watt kicker amp. Where in the description is that amp kit that you suggest? And now I'm running 2 1200 watt Kicker amps
What about options for vehicles that cannot get a upgraded altenator. Every vehicle ive owned has never had options for that upgrade

Hey I have a question, I have 2 10 jl audio w6v4 and a jl audio slash 1200/1 v3 a stock battery and a stinger battery in a 2007 Cobalt. A while ago I fried my stock alternator so I put a 250 h/o alt in my car. It fixed my problem but after long play my battery light comes on in my car again. Do I need to change my stock battery or do I have another problem? Any help would be great fully appreciated. Thank u for your time
what do you think about a 240amp alt on 4-5 105ah Batts total wattage is 7000rms (really want a navigator but I'm not going to get it if I can't run my system)
can you send a pay pal invoice for the wiring ?, and I need to know how much for a mecman.. for a 08 impala ls
Hey TLOP. Do you know if any cars have safety features that stop your car from sending power to an amp. I have a 2015 ford mustang with a 1200 what mono hifonics amp. And I get a service light saying "charging system service needed"
I only get 8.9V to my amp unless I use another car with jumper cables, then I get 14.5V.
Is my 2015 civic stock alternator really THAT bad? Replaced battery with stinger spv35 because I was experiencing a subtle amount of headlight dimming with running my alpine mrp m500 (with 1 12" type s)....and it hasnt fixed the issue. Could this perhaps be indicative of any other sort of issue somewhere in the wiring? I have also soldered a line output converter to the rear speaker wires to utilize the stock head unit for any further info on my setup.
Might this amount of dimming be considered ok? Thanks in advance for any further possible advice
I have 150A Factory alternator. I want to run crossfire c5 800.4 for my mids and highs and c7 2k for sub. That sums at about 2400 watts. Will I be ok if I do big 3 and replace my stock battery with xp3000?

If my power supply is not enough for a 3000 watt hifonic amp and I'm running 3 15 ppi at 1 ohm should I change it 2 or 4 ohm .so amp is happier. I have the big 3 upgrade. 0 gage and 1 battery. 370 alternate. Thanks any think help.
Really informative
I had a kicker CXA1200.1 amp with a gel battery and my lights would dim a little with the 90 amp alt. I upgraded the wires running 2 1/0 from the positive post to the alt and 2 1/0 from the negative to the frame of the alt and 2 1/0 from the negative to the car frame. This didn't really help so I bought a 250 amp alt and now the voltage is like a yoyo from 11.2v to 15.3v and when I play a 4 second 35hz tone the light look like strobe lights. I added another battery and changed all of my terminals making sure all wires are good but it's not a good outcome. My 90 amp didn't do this bad. Any ideas as to what it could be?
Vary helpful video thank you
You should be able to solder in a capacitor somewhere before the headlight connector so it will functions as power drop dampener. no?
Hey I have a Chrysler 2015 200C and getting Power bass 12s and 800 watt amp I should be fine running stock alternator right?
So I just upgraded my alternator to 200 amp. Having a new agm oversized battery seems to be overcharging. Is my only solution getting a deep cycle battery??
if you upgrade your battery from a factory to a gel battery and add a second one you can get by as long as you dont pass 5000 watts. i always install in all my vehicles never had an issue, in mostly small cars like toyota corolla and honda civic
I have a 1963 impala I’m running 2 10” down for sound subs pushed by a Herzts 3k I’m also running an alpine 4 channel 100watts RMS What alternator would support my. System how many amps do I need

Do you have to upgrade alternator or just add a good audio battery
Couldn't you change headlights to LED or HID with ballast to remedy dimming?
JP can you a video of how your work truck is wired from under the hood? I want to buy another battery obviously from D4s but have no idea how to wire it. My voltage is a 13.5 at full tilt, need more to make power, love your vids too.
PS i have a similar truck like yours so any help works
He got a video on that already
Two xp3000 two d3400 and a stock alternator is good for how much power?
Good video. I would have to disagree with needing an upgrade starting at 1000-1500 watts though. After my 600 watt system was installed, my lights were dimming on my Silverado with a 105 amp alt. So, I upgraded to 130 amp alt and did the big 3 and it fixed the problem (for the most part). They would still dim slightly if I had the bass really pumped. Upgraded to a Mechman 240 amp and it has enough capacity to handle full thump. The main thing is to make sure your alternator can supply enough current to power total electrical load of all systems you might have running at the same time. And have some reserve.
I'm getting a 320A alt and changing my stock battery to a xs power d series 4900. My system is a 2k system. You think I will be ok without needing a 2nd battery?
@@johnnypiper1717 A second battery only gives you more reserve power, not more amps. With a 320A for 2K watts I’d suggest adding in a 2-4 Farad capacitor inline as it will give you surge amps on the heavy load moments (kickin’ bass).
@@liquidsmokemustang1537 oh ok, what about the jy power nxt 2kf hybird capacitor would that be good you think?
@@johnnypiper1717 I’m not familiar with that one but, more Farad’s is never a bad move. 👍
I did a big 3 upgrade on my 1200 watt amp and single sub on my q50(150 amp alternator) but only upgaded from factory to 4 gauge wire. Recently upgraded the amp and sub to 1500 watt with 1/0 awg. Do i need to upgrade big 3 to 1/0 awg also or upgrade alternator?
i have a 1995 gmc Z71 with a bigger alternator and bigger battery and the big 3,i used to have two batteries but i removed one,but i installed a small system in it again, two SA 8's with a 1000 watt amp and my volts drop bad and my headlights dim,off 1000 watts, with bigger alt,and big battery and big 3,i think i might have a parasitic load problem somewhere which can be hard to locate.i have the old style head light bulbs and tail lights,i might look into led.i really don't know, other than getting another battery,I've always had problems with this truck.my car,2013 WRX hatch has two SA 12's,on dc audio 2.0k with two bat's,the big 3 and stock alt,and it does fairly decent,so its the old truck that has a problem.
can you put to big of an alt on a battery? say i put a 370amp alt in my truck but with a smaller battery, will it harm my battery? is there a cap of how big an alt can be compared to battery or do i just get the biggest alt that can fit and the biggest battery i can
150amp alt will push an power about 1,500watts right? My question is how do I pick a proper battery?
Do you not recommend using the cca big 3 kits??
