You too? Singing has been a great outlet most of my 30 years. I find it quite frustrating that my emotions keep me from being able to hit a note.
I used to sing to overcome those emotions, now it seems that singing is inducing those emotions.
Any tips on how to move past this?

Of ALL the songs in Tool's catalog, this is the one where all 4 members blend their talents and mastery of their instruments to form the perfect song. Adam, Justin, Danny, and MJK(voice as an instrument) are so complimentary of each other!! These lyrics are Hauntingly Beautiful, deep, and just downright Breathtaking!! Maynard's lyrics are so vulnerable and brilliant. Such a fitting tribute to his mother, more so than any other of his songs about Judith Marie Keenan....So blessed to have witnessed this live in 07!! I distinctly remember looking around to witness such a high level of respect that the crowd had given the band during this. Everyone, literally EVERYONE was so quiet and attentive. No claps, no yelling, no whistles, no woos...Nothin!! Nothing but absolute undivided attention to this mastery!! So glad that you've finally gotten around to this. Cheers!!

Jamel, thanks for reacting! You've done A Perfect Circle 'Judith' which was Maynard completely PO'd at God for doing this to his mom (his perception at the time), Wings (Part 1 & 2) was him coming to terms with her passing & her life. You can tell his love for her with these words - they're ethereal, poignant and from the depths of his soul. He admits that he isn't like her, cannot understand her faith, but commends her for it, for living a faithful life, and for giving him life and a voice! Perfect posting given that Mother's day is this weekend!

Maynard actually came out and said that he would never do anything like this because it caused him so much pain. But pain brings about some beautiful things, and this is possibly the best example of it. A pure masterpiece.

This is Tools 'magnum opus'. The line about 'this little light of a mine, a gift you passed on to me, I'm gonna let it shine and guide you safely on your way' about his mom singing that Christian song with him as a child, and now he is using his singing voice/platform to honor her, is just heart wrenching. If you can't end up in tears after this, I just don't know what kind of human you are. This is the definition of 'precious' and 'love'. Love to all.

The band crafts a phenomenal sequence of music and he puts into words what most cannot; combined, they are able to draw emotion out of the listener if the listener allows. The production value is pristine and nothing ever feels out of place even when it is intentional.

I can recognize it when it's happening, and crying REALLY helps but I can't just start crying on a whim. I lost my grandfather years back. He was my idol. The one who made life fun and safe and he always wanted me around. I was never a bother. I don't comment on UA-cam hardly at all, but I wanted to share a story. Also, love your channel. Keep it up and I'll keep watching.
I was in the crowd the first 2 nights they played this song. It was a 2 night run at Staples center, Sept. 06. The first night they played Aenima first in the encore, followed by this. Aenima had the crowd pumped and alot of people were yell and screaming and hollering, especially when the lasers kicked in. Somewhere in the middle of part 2 it sounded like his voice broke a little, then he left stage for a good 2 minutes or so. I was balling in the stands. The band kept playing and when he came back the circled around and finished the song.
The second night I was lucky enough to be row 2, stage center when they played it first for the encore. It was by far the best moment of my now 10 Tool shows, including Sacto '03. Musically, emotionally, spiritually a singular moment when 4 men on stage connected with 20+k onlookers to eulogize and celebrate their brother's mother. Absolutely awesome in the true sense of the term.
If, for some reason, Maynard ever reads this: Thank you for sharing these moments of your journey. It has helped me in my own. I hope we helped by being there.

Man, Idk if you still read this. But I listen, I lost my father to auicide when I was 15. This was not released until 6 years later. But I tell you two things:
Back then I did exactly, what I would recommend to anyone who wants to get into this and what you mentioned: Headphones, lying, or leaning back. Eyes closed. Listen to the tales and romantisize, the sound, the voice, like the raindrops coming together to this river of sounds, that start soft and low and ride to a wilder and faster stream of movement until relaxing again into a calm smooth fondle.
And second. The lyrics. I mean, this is not a poem, this is a collection of sadness and despair from the sole. These words hit again and again, without asking.
This one is nothing you listen to and party. But this is still gold.
    Thanks for the video. 🫡

"“Wings for Marie” parts 1 and 2, as well as all of 10,000 Days, was dedicated to lead singer Maynard James Keenan’s mother Judith Marie Gridley. She passed away 3 years prior to the release of the album.
When Maynard was 11 years old, his mother suffered a brain aneurysm that left her paralyzed for the remainder of her life. Despite her unfortunate condition, she maintained a strong faith in God. Though Maynard would have odds with her views at times (as exemplified in A Perfect Circle’s “Judith”), he espouses in the album’s two-part dedication that because of her faith in such a trying episode, she above all others is deserving of Heaven.
The 10,000 days of the album’s title refers to the 27 years that Maynard’s mother lived after being paralyzed."

The way you just bathe in what you’re hearing and go on that journey.. I can tell you really get the vibe of this band. When you said how the lyrics are mixed sort of low but it works perfectly, that’s really what they go for a lot. Maynard would often be in the back of the stage when they play live just so that he wouldn’t overshadow the rest of the band, because he believes that it’s all one cohesive sound. This is one freight train of a song and you just stood there and let it hit you full force. Powerful stuff.
