Jamel, I always enjoy your pauses and commentary, but watching your reaction to TooL is the best. I saw them in February here in Aus before COVID-19 consumed everything. This song along with Pnuema and Tempest were the jewels of the night. Jambi cuts through you like a knife live. They change it up to elevate it beyond the studio version.
To me this song meant everything to me. When my son was born, he was jaundiced and put under those lights with the blindfold. I left one day to get my wife some food and was listening to this album while out and about. I had already spent a couple days staying up watching over my boy, making sure he rested well, and his blindfold stayed on. While out on my trip to get lunch, this song came on... Bare in mind, I've dabbled in all matters of debauchery, it seemed as tho everything came full circle that day. I was shown what laid before me and what could be. I wept. I listened to these words like they were gospel. It hit me like ton of bricks. Everything I had ever done was laid before me, and it was all washed away. I had got what I wanted... I got my son... and I had a true purpose in this life... it changed me. I am the king of my world and I control my destiny. My family is my world now... not my party life. Tool is always up to interpretation, to me this song is about my relationship with my self. Stories I tell myself about how I would always choose my inner voice over a life of luxury or some other material attachments. By far my favourite track on this album. "Prayed like a martyr dusk to dawn. Begged like a hooker all night long." Adam's use of the voice box was made famous in the 70's by Peter Frampton on "Do you feel like we do" and in the 80's by Mathias Jabs of The Scorpions on the track "The Zoo".
Great song! I believe this was the only studio song that Danny used his Paiste kit on. I’ve always loved this song. Before, I never got Tool, but after many listens, I’m starting to understand them and like them. Ticks and Leeches is a great one for drums, but the title track to Fear Inoculum and Invincible are also great ones.
💚 my fav (at the moment) "The devil and his had me down In love with the dark side i found" "But you changed all that for me Lifted me up, turned me around" "You, my peace of mind, my all, my center" "Shine on benevolent sun. Shine down upon the broken" "Shine down upon the many Light our way, benevolent son" ... I mean... Just... Fantastic. And tool never gets old. Been in their army for about 20 yrs now. Really enjoying your reaction to them.
I think it goes even deeper. I think this song is about death and losing a loved one and what you would be willing to give up just to spend one more day with that person. RIP Kory Moore.
Lol that is the same effects pedal it’s called a “ talk box” it’s a foot switch pedal on the ground that has a rubber tube that goes up to a mic stand and is plugged into his stomp box which is connected to his guitar really cool pedal... a lot of good guitarist use it to make the guitar have that original sound! Fun to mess around with!
But he was right about the Zap and Roger reference. Only instead of a guitar they used a keyboard to generate the sound. But when Peter Frampton , Joe Walsh, and Joe Perry were using them in the 70's they weren't in a pedal form factor. It wasn't until the late 80's/early 90's when the pedal form came round.
Brett Marlar sweet I was born in mid 70’s so i didn’t pick up guitar until early 90’s but didn’t realize those went back that far thanks I am interested in some of the earlier forms now and how the tones are from that era
@@porkchopzmeat3099 I was born in October '74. Started playing in '86. Wasn't long after that when I started noticing people mak8ng their guitars "talk" with wah pedals, and a friend of mine told me about the Talk Box somewhere around '89 or '90. I asked every guitar shop in the Denver area, and they all said that it wasn't available to buy. That something like that needed to be custom built.
"here from the king's mountain view, here from the wild dream come true." he's on top of the world, living a wild dream. countless dreams born from wealth, and he would wish it all away if the alternative was losing his son. i think maynard has come a long way as a person. his son, and the death of his mom, i think fundamentally changed him.

The LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Not money itself. Greed. The love of having money for its own sake. And this has never rung more true than in the current political and socioeconomic circumstances.
At the end when Maynard says, "Silence, legion, save your poison. Silence, legion, stay out of my way" Many people think he's talking to Tool fans about staying out of his personal and family life.
Mark 5:1-9 King James Version (KJV) 5 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. 2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, 3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: 4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. 5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. 6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, 7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. 8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. 9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
I don’t think he’s talking about the fans, I think he’s talking about the demons of temptation and demonic people and forces that have power in this world
Jamal, when Covid passes and Tool comes to your town go see them live I promise It will be an experience you will never ever forget I've been following TOOL for 25 years now I remember every show I have seen. Seen them seven times they truly take you on a journey. Watching you experience Jambi brought tears to my eyes. The song is about his son. I had tickets to see them in April but because of Covid it was postponed. The new album Fear inoculum is amazing thank you for making these videos it's helping me relive a lot of these songs.
Tool is my favorite band!! You have to see them live to get the full experience!... I would love to see what you think about the band Clutch and Nine Inch Nails
This was one of the first songs my son decided he really liked when he was like 5 or 6 ( he was listening to my iPOD in the backseat of the car). I figured he'd be as much of a music lover as his dad.
I saw Tool live for the first time over the summer and they played this tune and they brought the house down! Its one of my Tool favorites and damn was it intense live!
Another great reaction ! I love listening to your TOOL reactions, you have a great ear... I love how quickly you get the gist of their genius :)) I’m seeing them in Sydney in February. I just pray they have Jambi in their set list! One of my favourites by them. Oh and a request if I may... please react to H. by TOOL. Not many ppl react to this gem of a song. It’s highly underrated ! TIA 🤘
It’s unreal that the vocals and melodies are written after the music is done. The lines that MJK finds in those notes is unreal! I would never hear those melodies in a song like this
Really enjoy watching you EXPIERIENCE all that is tool. I got the same genuine reaction when i first heard this band and the journey that you get to take as you listen and ride the roller coaster.
Loving your reactions man, follow the Maynard trail and you’ll never be disappointed, truly an amazing lyricist. Some of his Perfect Circle stuff is definitely worth a look. Much love from Australia brother 💪
There may be a much darker meaning to this song but I’m not sure. Danny Carey is reportedly a satanist. Not sure about Maynard but he does seem to mock Jesus in a number of his songs. Satan took Jesus up onto a mountain and offered him all the kingdoms of this world. This is a King’s view. He offers fame and fortune but the price is your soul. In one verse he says The Devil and his had me down, in love with the dark side I’d found, dabbling all the way down, up to my neck soon to drown. It sounds like Satan offered Maynard all of the fame, fortune and lustful fulfillment of this world and he took it. He dabbled into the occult and got in over his head. Now he has a son that changes his life so much that he say’s IF I could I would wish it all away. The fact that he say’s if i could implies that he cannot wish it all away. Satan does not let people out of their deals with him. Many people don’t know this but Satan, before he fell, was in charge of music in Heaven. There are many stories of musicians selling their soul to Satan for fame and fortune. In a later verse Maynard say’s tempted the devil with my song and got what I wanted all along. What convinced me that I am right about this is at the end of the so g he say’s silence legion, save your poison. There is a story of a man in the Bible possessed by many devils/demons. When questioned about the name of the demon possessing the man the devils refer to themselves as legion, for they were many. I think this song may be about selling your soul to the devil and then wishing you could change it. Unfortunately it’s probably too late. Just a thought. found, dabbling all the way down, up to
Definitely should listen to that AND watch the video. Adam Jones isn't just a great musician. He's a great artist in general. I've always wanted to own one of his stop motion puppets. Especially the one from Ænima and Sober. Good suggestion btw!!

Just so you know,,,,the context of the song is pretty frightening, but they have a way of getting into some seriously deep issues anyway and try to open people's eyes to subjects that aren't always pleasant, but are of super importance.
@@Ju5tB0b well said. Forcing/Prying open that third eye is sometimes necessary. Some people don't want to be bothered by truth and live in ignorance, and truth can definitely affect/shatter one's beliefs as well as enlighten for best, but some times people need to hear the truth whether they like it or not. Truth is truth. Truth is enlightenment. Not all enlightenment is pleasant. There's lots of things I wish I could un-learn/un- experience. But I still always want to learn more and experiencing hard, sad truths hasn't stopped me yet from wanting to know even more. I know Maynard doesn't like when people take his lyrics too literal and serious but he def has good messages we can all learn from. Just gotta listen. If you ever see one of Adam Jones' stop motion puppets for sale, hmu IMMEDIATELY on this post (If you don't already buy it right away, lol) Have a great one, dude!

During the guitar solo The effect Adam is using you talking about is called a talk box. It has a tube the sound you guitar goes though instead of traveling through your amp and it goes into your mouth and into a microphone, and how you move your mouth changes the way the sound of your guitar sounds. Love the reaction videos man and how you breaks down the lyrics. Your spot on with these Tool videos almost every time. Watching these takes me back to when I listened to Tool for the first time.
To me Jambi is incredible song because you can listen to it as a breakup song or falling in love song, works both way. Its prolly not about that but thats my impression of it.
This song to the stop motion video "the separation" is the greatest unofficial music video ever made. For some reason it's incredibly hard to find on YT right now. If you've seen it you know how amazing it is
This is one of my favorites. They play it live almost every concert. It is incredible. And the meaning of the verses, good for the soul. It's important to not forget what's important in life, and that material possessions are not everything.
I'd recommend Panic Room by Silent Planet. Having grown up with a military father with multiple deployments and now having one under my belt, the lyrics really hit home.

KID A is my all time fav but idthink its the right album to get ppl into the band.
It makes me so happy that you seem to enjoy Tool so much. Yes, that voice manipulator is called a talk box. I think one of the first to really make it popular was Peter Frampton in the 70s. I was in love with him when I was 10 years old. You should check out Do You Feel Like We Do and Show Me The Way (the live versions for both). I agree with others here that you should do Judith by A Perfect Circle (one of Maynard's other bands) and Tool's Wings for Marie part 1 and 2. All about his mother. I believe this Jambi is about her as well or possibly his son. You're doing a great job, Jamel!
If I'm nit mistaken, the song was about his mother and her illness when he was child. Jambi was the genie from PeeWee Hermans playhouse and how he is asking Jambi to save his mother. At least part of the song was about the mom, others could be about his son.
Hope all is well man!. I love the reactions! If you like the singer of tool you should check out his other bands. Specifically 3 libras by A perfect circle. Cheers!
The part where you mentioned Zapp and Roger Troutman made me happy! You are referring to an instrument called a TalkBox. Basicly you throatsing into a tube the electronically distorts it. I am sure Roger and Maynard have different types, but they are both talkboxes!
They have several near perfect albums all released in a row, The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A and Amnesiac. Remarkable live. Highly inspired by them and also phenomenal live is Muse, though stick to the first few albums.
Hey man, please react to some Frank Zappa. Dudes a mad genius, and I think you'll love it. Cosmic Debris, Joe's Garage, Uncle Remus, and Black Napkins are some of my personal faves, but its hard to go wrong with Zappa, imo.
I’d love to hear you react to some Talking Heads. “Once in a Lifetime” changed the course of my life when I was in my late teens/early 20’s. I decided then and there that I was not going to wake up some day and and yell “My God what have I done”. I am 60 today and I am still grateful.
I saw the Stop Making Sense concert at The Greek in LA I believe it was in 83. Incredible show. Only matched by David Byrne’s current American Utopia show.

Great... Try Ticks and Leeches, another Great song
That song was rated by Rolling Stone as the best Drumming on any song over Niel Pert, John Bonham, and the Guy from the Who!!
Here for another go round with ya .
2021 🤙
💚 my fav (at the moment)
"The devil and his had me down
In love with the dark side i found"
"But you changed all that for me
Lifted me up, turned me around"
"You, my peace of mind, my all, my center"
"Shine on benevolent sun.
Shine down upon the broken"
"Shine down upon the many
Light our way, benevolent son"
... I mean... Just... Fantastic.
And tool never gets old. Been in their army for about 20 yrs now.
Really enjoying your reaction to them.
Thank you 😢😢😢😅😅😅😅😅
I think it goes even deeper. I think this song is about death and losing a loved one and what you would be willing to give up just to spend one more day with that person. RIP Kory Moore.
Love the hoodie. This is my favorite tool song love to see different interpretations
Brett Marlar hahaha my first pedal was a rat distortion pedal and a crybaby wah pedal got those two pedals just to try to play some sabbath songs lol
Oh I forgot to mention my first guitar was a pos hondo les Paul copy lol ya I was a broke struggling musician back then
Tool - No Quarter is a must. It's a cover of Led Zeppelin's original and some might even say that it's better.
Yep I agree. The Tool version is better. Have a listen to Crowbar's version of No Quarter as well. It's even heavier but a bit shorter.
It's for sure better in my opinion. For the longest time it was my favorite Tool song, hands down.
nutrybe It is better. And that’s coming from a huge Zeppelin fan.
It is very, very good but, imho, it doesn’t compare. That’s Led Zeppelin’s song! 🤘🏻
Nobody does Led Zeppelin better than Led Zeppelin! What Tool does is play a damn good respectable cover of No Quarter.
TOOL songs are really complex, in every sense, take your time and listen to their albums from start to finish, it will be a journey
Yes indeed👍🏾
That's right, I don't understand why try to compare Muse with them...
@@davidzamora9510 Muse? Seriously? NFW Blasphemy
Muse? Who's comparing the two? No comparison...
In other channels usually say that, they also comment that Tool is not so good as Muse... wtf (?
"Silence legion,
Save your poison
Silence legion, stay out of my way!"
The most emotional thing I've ever heard expressed in musical/lyrical form.
Yeah, brings tears for me also.
I think he's alluding to the conquering of Rome lol
Agreed... I have schizophrenia, and that speaks to me in volumes.
Whenever anyone has asked about Tool, this is the kick in the teeth I share with them.
My personal favorite.
My dogs name lol
My favorite band EVER!!!!..their songs are way more than just lyrics! The meanings behind them are deep..the musical capabilities along with the lyrics will forever blow me away!..im glad I was a teenager listening to their music when they came on the scene..it never gets old listening to Tool🤘
Or at least the critics.
Or the bible. Mark 5:9
Mark 5:1-9 King James Version (KJV)
5 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God?
Whenever I hear of Clutch, all I think of is whiskey lol!
@@MaynardsSpaceship Sounds like you've had fun listening to Clutch. Lol
Just saw Tool last night! And this song was on the setlist! One of my favorite songs of theirs to hear live!
I love how quickly you get the gist of their genius :))
I’m seeing them in Sydney in February.
I would never hear those melodies in a song like this
Wings for Marie pt 1 and 2!!! Best songwriting Tool has ever done.
It's like you're a natural Tool fan. You just get it. ❤❤❤ this was about his baby boy. 😊
lets talk about that fire hoodie.
Just a thought.
found, dabbling all the way down, up to
Not sure if its been suggested yet but “Prison Sex” by Tool. crazy song
Just Bob 2nd that and the music vid if you really wanna get creeped out
Definitely should listen to that AND watch the video. Adam Jones isn't just a great musician. He's a great artist in general. I've always wanted to own one of his stop motion puppets. Especially the one from Ænima and Sober. Good suggestion btw!!
@@SSGSativa He is amazing....those puppets are freaking sweet. I have always wanted one as well. lol I look forward to seeing more of your channel. You are a very good host
Loved your reaction to this song, especially during the breakdown solo. Pretty heavy stuff!
Jump right in is correct!!! One of my favorite Tool songs! I’ve seen it live and it is amazing!! 🤘🏻🌀 thank you for this one, I thoroughly enjoy your reactions!
I have to add: your shirt is fabulous!!!
The intro to this song literally shook the arena i was in when i seen them.
Just saw them in Memphis 4th row floor. This song almost shook the heart out of my chest! The best show by far I've ever seen.
I saw them in Denver at the start of their tour and the crowd went crazy when this song came on.
@@sebastianmadrigal5125 heck yeah that show was awesome the laser work during the show was outstanding.
@@rikjaims9118 I hope they come back soon. I would love to hear 7empest live and maybe even Bottom
Saw them in Bossier City. Transformative
Great reaction as always. Maynard’s lyrics are always thought provoking. Mix that with the musicianship of the band, and you have yourself some mind-blowing music.
Good ear! You got it man, just like Zapp and Roger Troutman, he's using a talk box. This song is So Ruff, so Tuff and has more bounce to the ounce!
Yes!
Yup Vocorder is the tech term and it was made famous by Peter Framton on the song The Way I Do ;)

i was gonna comment but knew some one called it :p hope he sees it to know he pretty much called it

Hell yeah. I love this band. I met the drummer a while back. My company makes his drumsticks and he came to check the place out. We're doing a run of them tonight .Very unique design for his stick.
I love that stick! I’m assuming you are talking about the Vic Firth’s? It’s slightly heavier than a standard 2B and has that tapered handle.
@@frightenedsoul Yep. The butt end of the stick is a pain to get right sometimes but we take the time to make sure it is. I like being a contributor to their excellent music in some small way.
Jambi is my daughters favorite Tool song. Teaching her the ways of Tool at a young age.
Can you please react to Swamp Song and Flood off of the Undertow album.
❤
Yes to Swamp Song, it makes me think of my ex. 🤣
One of my favorites! Loved the reaction. Also, that Star Wars sweater is pretty sweet too.
Dang, I've sang this song, damn near everyday since I saw Tool, in October. I love it. Keep up the good work.
Slicedbread caught their Vegas show. They’re amazing man
Saw it at the Louisville show and had never delved too deep into it, after that show I did and then I got to see it again in Indy and had a whole different appreciation for it. Next week is Nashville! Loving this tour! 🤘🏻
@@lbow09 great show!!
yes sir..the climax on this song is truly fantastic!! Aenema ws allways my favorite album, but this album is underrrated and is starting to grow on me now that the new album has settled in..but who am i kidding, each and everyone of their albums are masterpieces! like many others..you should do lost keys/rosetta stoned..craziest lyrics ever by Tool!
I'm glad you seem to take your time listening tool which is what you need to digest it. Do crawl or four degrees also by tool please! 🙏😁
I remember seeing tool in Denver 2005 when I lived out there and frying ball s to this song love this band . One of the best live shows to see !
Ahhhhhh! Computer love! Zapp and Rodger. It's the same effect except with the guitar rather than keyboard. Cool reference!
Made famous by Peter Frampton...
That guitar solo effect youre referring to is called a talk box. You should youtube them. Pretty cool sounding.
bobinchainz exactly! Peter Frampton-ish 😝
2 things: your face when the song kicks in is priceless, and that hoodie is it man. good stuff.
A Perfect Circle- "The Package" awesome song..
I was in a tool concert in Las Vegas. Jambi is so haunting and killer live song!
If you've seen it you know how amazing it is
It was taken off years ago unfortunately when Tool started uploading official music to Spotify, YT, AM, etc
The Smiths- How Soon is Now
It’s the perfect song
Excellent song.
Even when you don't get the exact meaning of the sing, it's always a great take on them. Keep it up. Love your channel.
You keep mixing it up. At this point I'm like "How did he never hear this?" Love your reactions!
It's always great watching your videos. Keep the TOOL coming!
Tube in the mouthness:
Do You Feel Like We Do - Peter Frampton
Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith
Man in the Box - Alice in Chains
These Shoes - Eagles
Benedictine Punk living on a prayer ...
That would be Joe Walsh, with the Eagles...
Don't forget Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi
This is one of my favorites. They play it live almost every concert. It is incredible. And the meaning of the verses, good for the soul. It's important to not forget what's important in life, and that material possessions are not everything.
Yes. Wings for Marie 1 & 2
Along with Jimmy and judith by a perfect circle.
Thisss
Seconded. Rosetta stoned also
Jamel just imagine some of these band reviews live. You should see one live!! You would be blown away
I'd recommend Panic Room by Silent Planet. Having grown up with a military father with multiple deployments and now having one under my belt, the lyrics really hit home.
Love this channel, love your hoodie!! Youre awesome brother, thanks for the great reactions & respect for music. Much love n respect .... Peace
Prayed like a martyr dusk to dawn
Begged like a hooker all night long
Tempted the devil with my song
And got what I wanted all along
My favorite verse
Im curious, what did he mean by that verse?
@@jeraldcandelario3881 very late response but I think it’s praying and begging for (whatever this song is about) to never leave him and stay along forever. Some people think it’s about his son. When I hear it I think about my relationship with spirituality and god. I interpret it as I hope my knowledge and relationship with god/universe/divine never leaves me and that it only grows strongrr
Even later response: imagine your wife in the hospital giving birth. What would you offer to give up to make sure both made it safe?
Probably my favorite Tool song, for sure my favorite on this album
Always love the Tool reactions, I jump on them as soon as I see them. I'm thinking maybe you should jump in and get your feet wet with some Radiohead... They are to me a band in their own genre, such as TOOL, you'll either love 'em or you'll hate 'em, hoping you will love Them! I believe these following songs by them are the best for an introduction...And the cherry on top for me, would be all 4 in that format.
Reckoner- Live from the Basement (my all time favorite song from them)
Paranoid Android- A possible still or lyric (official video too distracting!)
How to Disappear Completely- !Live! By youtuber EverThine (Yellow tint)
Last, but not least...
Street Spirit (Fade Out)
Fingers crossed 🙄 And thanks for all the reactions, glad to see you are opening your mind to new music and musicians daily. ✌
So with you!!!!!!!!
Just
I was thinking Decks Dark might be a good intro, even though it’s a modern Radiohead sound...
Tool and radiohead are my 2 fav bands hands down. I always play reckoner or weird fishes to someone who never heard radiohead. Its a band that if people hear the wrong song first they wont give it a second chance. I think in rainbows from start to finish is the album to get ppl interested.
Cheers!
"tube in his mouth?" Jamel that is exactly what it is. Glad you caught that,
This is my favorite Tool song. There's also a live version on youtube that is incredible.
A Perfect Circle - Counting bodies like sheep and Tricky - Evolution Revolution Love, please?
B.I.D. Lighthouse .... tricky opened for tool the first time I saw them live.

Pet. Not counting bodies... That is a remix of Pet and people just don't even know the title of the song. Pet by a perfect circle.
I think it's just called War Drums.
@@Lukos0036 the song is called Pet, as stated before.
The part where you mentioned Zapp and Roger Troutman made me happy! You are referring to an instrument called a TalkBox. Basicly you throatsing into a tube the electronically distorts it. I am sure Roger and Maynard have different types, but they are both talkboxes!
Tool is a great band. You should check out Maynard's other bands as well. Namely Puscifer "Conditions of my Parole." Very funky back beat.
This such a great song, so glad I got to see it played live on their non-album tour. Great composition overall!!
Time to dive down a RADIOHEAD hole! Start with Paranoid Android. Great reactions as always sir!
How to disappear completely. Idioteque.
Yes, I requested some Radiohead songs as well. I hope I picked some yyou'd agree on as well for introduction.
Yes! Radiohead is another deep wormhole to fall into! Weird fishes!

St. Alfonzo's pancake breakfast! Is a great Zappa song!
@Fire Ant Shotgunfair enough!
Titties and Beer, Occams Razor
Zappa is like a stinky french cheese. It's an acquired taste that needs easing into.

I’d love to hear you react to some Talking Heads. “Once in a Lifetime” changed the course of my life when I was in my late teens/early 20’s. I decided then and there that I was not going to wake up some day and and yell “My God what have I done”. I am 60 today and I am still grateful.
Everyone should just watch Stop Making Sense. Great concert movie.
I honestly enjoy stop making sense more than some of the studio versions. This must be the place is one of my favorites from any band ever
I saw the Stop Making Sense concert at The Greek in LA I believe it was in 83. Incredible show. Only matched by David Byrne’s current American Utopia show.
