I realize the battery chips make for a complicated replacement or modification, but Man you taken a lot into consideration and saved a lot of people from a headache. Keep up the cool tinkering, you matched many genius levels, and made your work easy for us to understand and learn from. THANKS for all you do, had to drop another comment.
You are a pioneer in this method. But don't be angry with me when I say that it's better to buy a license from Pat and reprogram the BMS. I have great results.
I am not angry. I know how great TRB is. That is why I will do a video on it. But i just love to do the hacking. And why not let people know all the options...😊
Wish young people see thing like this rather than those stars etc...Kim Kardashian. Very practical and informative content. I wish you can mod the Mini 2 to run on some high end lithium-ion cells like tesla, panasonic.
Thanks! :) I agree, that the next generation should also get some more intellectual stimulation as well. Fine to watch idiotic content, but balance it out. :) Regarding the Mini2 Li-ion cells; that vid will come. I am just waiting for some LiPo cells in the mail now for 3 weeks... The parcel is stuck in customs clearance.... 😴😴😂 when that arrives I will do more testing like in this video, and after that I will move on hacking the Li-ion cells in... ;)
I always wondered what would happen to the flight time and flight capabilities if someone would remove the plastic frame of the mini. It would mean less weight, but is it enough to save battery. Wouldn't you think?
If you mean the top cover, then yes. It is over 10 grams. It does matter. If you watch The Longranger UA-cam channel, when he does a world record attempt he is usually flying without the top cover. :)
i can see where watching your videos is going to be very very interesting and you have already answered a question i have long been asking myself, how can we fly longer hhmmm
great job, again . me new here but an old mini modder . just curious what is the difference on bms or software of mini 2 between the mini. that you cant use the same solution on mini1
Very good video !!!!! What cells have you on the way ? So, just to summarize, if you connect cells in parallel when they are all discharged to the same voltage and then charge everything through in Mini2, in theory, during the flight, he should take into account how many mAh have entered during charging and use it correctly to calculate the percentage left ?
Thanks! :) About the cells I will have affiliate links after I tested them (I do not want to promote something untested). I will update the description. Or just search Aliexpress for LiPo cells. About your question: Just make sure that the 2 battery packs are at the same voltage. IT HAS TO BE CONNECTED IN THE WAY I SHOW IN THIS VIDEO! ua-cam.com/video/Nwx8i52qDEo/v-deo.html Otherwise it will not work! It doesn´t matter if you charged them together or separately. They just have to be on the same voltage. :)
@@ZollyD I wonder about cell balancing. The smart battery SOC has the ability to balance between cells, but without the controller the balancing can be significantly changed over time...
@@Jpeglism That is correct. :) I charged them up with a balance charger. Then after using it in the drone, I just charge them with the drone (which is so to say not balance charging the additional cells) but I double check with the multimeter. If they go out of balance I correct it. But rather just change cells, as they are not to go out of balance every charge cycle...
My dji mini 2 battery duration in indoor hovering is about 30 mins..6 mins more probably it's too few gain for the job... At least we know now there's no check on battery board...wondering how can be with graphene batteries
Alligator clips and a quick disconnect might make your bench testing more less complicated. I was thinking perhaps create a flat connection on the top shell underneath, that connects to the battery module on the pcb rather than the battery itself. It shall piggyback off the BMS, TX/RX. This way you don't have to keep soldering and leaving that battery gate open Aka affecting the aerodynamics
I have two questions: 1) that Mini with the additional batteries will go way above the 249 grams, so if my Part 107 studying - still in progress - that will change the class of your drone, right ? In EU, it surely does, problem solved having at least an A1/A3 license (or even better an A2 as well), not sure about the US tho. 2) The tech problem I can foreseee is the change in the center of gravity of the drone, possibly disturbing the electronics (ESC, IMU etc especially having current flowing around those cables) and, most important, the extra strain you will put on the motors adding weight. I know a Mini 2 can easily lift even more than its own weight, but still.. it's a payload you are adding. I have no idea what the weight of those batteries is, so won't go in the relative math needed. I notice you are very accurate in your experiments, so the question is, have you taken into consideration all these factors (aerodynamics in this case does not really matters much, although it does as well, but let's that aside for a moment) ? I am VERY interested in what you are doing and have thought about trying something similar myself.
Thanks for your interest! :) 1. Yes it becomes heavy and thus it changes the class. (To be honest -I think you can tell - I am not a cinematographer. I fly very little and I am not even good at it. I bought my drones because their technology interests me) But, yes if you fly a lot, the licenses have to be upgraded. 2. Yes it is changing the center of gravity. Not that much though to seriously influence anything (my observation). I believe it would be better to put the extra weight on the bottom, but I do want to have the sensors. As I said there is a sweet spot somewhere with the added weight/capacity. I am trying to find that. Plus I wanted to do this mod in a way, how you do not lose warranty on the quad. only on the battery :) I will have a video coming out this Thursday. I think you will find some more answers in that.
@@ZollyD Can't wait to see how you managed all this. The sweet spot can probably be calculated, but I am not sure it won't fall in the wrong place.
