You've done lots of Arvidsjaur snow & drifting videos now - good intro magic here - but sorry, your earlier (Feb 16) Tiguan snow video is still my favourite vid! And the Tiguan SEL has a nicer interior with brighter, lighter and better materials, and more space. More equipment; less money too! They're taking the mickey with T-Roc R cost, extras and cheapened interior. Yes, Colin McRae RIP. I'd pick a Golf R DSG. Very entertaining video - many thanks, Team.

Tips over £40k (P11D) with couple of options in the UK, thus is subject to at least £465 per year road tax from years 2 to 6.
Yes good cars are now ruled out due to this and I refuse to pay stupid additional tax even though it’s the same engine on lower model who have a tax band of £145. Ridiculous.
Lapiz blue is a high cost option, black colour roof is another cost option, so why would you pay for the roof cost option to cover the Lapiz blue?
I could watch Thomas talk about grass growing and it would still interest me. 👍

As a US consumer I subscribe to this channel primarily to see the vehicles we cannot purchase on this side of the pond. Here's another one designed to stoke my jealousy. As far a I know the T-Roc in any guise isn't destined for the US. Not surprising given that VW has been challenged to sell its Euro spec vehicles in the US. As far as the T-Roc R is concerned, it might appeal to crossover crazy Americans in what we call the "sub-compact" category here in the US. But price is a major barrier, especially considering the competition from other sub-compact SUV's like the new Mazda CX-30 with MSRP's that top out at about $30,000 USD (That's about 27,000 Euros at current exchange rates.) With an MSRP of 44,000 Euros in Germany, that puts the T-Roc R at about $48,000 at current exchange rates in the US.

For me, own the T Roc R but always wish for the Golf R. Maybe instead the Golf R estate/wagon as the most practical. Hope there's a mk8 R estate. Great review as ever.

Great vid! Good that you compare performance on different surfaces. What hothatch would you recommend on terrible roads? I'm currently driving a Scirocco R and it's great. But the roads here in Sweden are sometimes terrible. Feels like the car is breaking down when you drive it hard.

Cupra Ateca would also be something for that. The suspension for the T-Roc R is a little to stiff for uneven roads imho

That side mirror should be heated in this category.
With minimal ground clearance and an unprotected underbody, the off-road dream better remain a dream, except perhaps on a wet well maintained dirt road.

I am thinking of a new car and T-Roc was on my wishlist until I did the "Sitzprobe" at Frankfurt IAA... That hard plastic interior everywhere turned me away... why oh why? Even KIA has better interior nowdays... T-Roc is, when it comes to interior materials, like Hyundai 10 years ago... such a shame...

Was thinking of getting one a few months back but the interior quality, especially the hard plastic on the dash.... Shockingly bad.
50k bucks? That's a lot of dinero. I don't live in Europe, so I'm not familiar with the price points, but that sounds like you could buy X2 M35i, Mercedes GLA or an Audi Q2/Q3 for that kind of money. The new Atlas Cross sport fully loaded is 53k with a v6... You guys are subsidizing our prices... thank you! ;p

no hydraulic struts for hood is ridiculous. did u know the golf r 7.5 in Canada doesn't come with a low washer fluid sensor, nice cost cutting for a 55k car
suffeks that’s just how VW is these days. Ignition also doesn’t have the locking mechanism of the Golf to prevent key being taken out when still in D. I’ve done it a few times when I was in a hurry.
They’re happy to put their prices up 3 times a year though...
This doesn’t come with hydraulic struts because the engines off her golf but it’s based on a polo

It’s based on an Audi A1 but the engine is from an S3

But quality plastics, not Japanese
You could get 3 Dacia Duster's for the same price and the quality of the interior is not a bit different than in a T-Roc ... something to think about.
Volkswagen from 2019 has upgraded it to Softouch materials but it is still not as high-quality as a golf as it’s based on the polo but the engine is from the golf
