Informative Review! I am from Germany and I have driven a T-Roc 190PS awd for 2 Years. Here are my pros and cons. Pros:The most agile and comfortable(with adaptive dampers and 18 inch wheels) SUV in this class. In these categories no chance for competitors like Mazda CX30 (much stiffer, but great noise insulation and intererieur),Hyundai Kona(also much stiffer )or Skoda Kamiq(as comfortable as the T-Roc,but less sporty ).A lot and good assistance systems. Most of the time fast DSG7 for bigger engines like 190PS TSI or 190PS PS TDI. Cons:Cheap plastic Interieur, ridiculous Beasts Sound System, only average noise insulation(for example Mazda CX30 has brilliant noise insulation ).
I bought T-ROC X few months ago, and I am loving it. The driving is super good, and it's pretty fast. The features i like most in this car is the firm grip on the road while driving on highways, and it adjusts headlights adaptively from high to low beam when it sees car at front in both directions in night, Park Assist and the exterior quality, specially the body which is very strong and solid unlike all other Japanese or Korean Cars. The TROC X has the Beat's sound and panoramic sun roof which makes it more fantastic.
Just got confirmation that I will be getting mine in 12 days (X Edition in red and black... I know, the colour isnt for everyone). Thanks for the review as it did help me make my final decision. I am a Mazda lover and still am however after testing the the top specced CX30 we decided to go with the T-Roc. Yes, the interior is a bit scratchy and not as plush as the CX30 but the drive put a smile on my face. I agree that the cost is a little steep but after fleet discount both the price was quite similar. Keep up the good work and no doubt I will be back on the channel when I need to replace my other car!!
The Kamiq is based on the same platform but with more specs and more spacious 2nd row, air vents in back row, dual climate control, virtual cockpit and electric tailgate standard and 5k cheaper! I know which one Im getting
Hi Paul great vid as always however this is so overpriced, also could you please review a 140tsi Karoq Sportline a bit bigger than this but not quite medium on outside however it’s so practical on the inside its bigger than most medium suvs
In India, we have its FWD version but it is imported so the costs is more than Indian made slightly bigger cars like Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster etc. Even bigger models like Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier (search about it) comes in the same cost as T-roc here
Had my T-Roc 2 weeks now with all add on's, traded in my 2017 Golf Trendline for it. After my Golf was run in the back off twice I wanted something that was a bit taller so that people can see me when I'm stopped! I loved my Golf and didn't want to part with it but this was the perfect choice for me as it was my Golf turned into a SUV! The price was more than I would have liked to have spent and it is over priced, but I'm happy with it! Plus it is for business use so instant asset write off, helped make my decision.
It’s nice, but a fully loaded Skoda Kamiq Monte Carlo with the travel pack is $39,000. It’s also roomier with a nicer interior. The only thing you miss out on AWD and the 2.0L.
Had my 1.5 tsi r-line for almost a year now & love it. Drives well & fun with a bit of poke to it. Love all the gadgets especially the acc. Great on fual with an average 40mpg on country roads up & down hills. Will definitely have another after this if the deal is right. Down side is the wheels are a nightmare to keep clean with all the hollows etc but look amazing, also only has a little clock on radio when on & can't put one on driving display. 👍😎
I considered this when getting a new car, overall very nice car but the plastic on top and on the sides really bothered me. It felt to much like a polo which disappointed me.
I ‘ve owned a 140 R line for about 3 months now. Very happy with it……great performance, handling , quality feel about the car, very solid, fun to drive…………yes the hard interior plastics are present but don’t understand what all the negativity is about, I don’t find it all that bad ………lots of positives about the car………….. my only issue is lack of driver electric seat otherwise very happy with my choice.
With the golf8 now out, this is last gen vw. It'll be interesting to see how you like(?) It inside with its tesla-ified screen-does-everything interior. And whether the public even notices, or cares
Really helpful information. Picked up 2021 model a few days ago, can’t find CD player or SD slots, my dealer couldn’t assist. Can’t see any info on media screen or CD player in the glove box as illustrated above so I guess they forgot to mention they have been made redundant. Great listening to the radio and iPhone on my upgraded Beats system.
I was waiting for this car. Was honestly so dissapointed. Fantastic engine and driving feel, but interior was cramped and the materials were shocking. It banged and rattled throughout the test drive. I've found better materials in cars that cost around half of this.
More info on how effective the AWD is for different conditions, and would like a comparison with other AWD systems. Oz may not get snow, but there's dirt, loose gravel, etc.
I really think there is a gap in the market for something like this that has basic off road credentials. XV is really the only choice but thats not exactly a sexy car...
Sounds like the this test car had most of the options ticked. What was the final drive away price of this test car? How far away is it from that sub 40k starting price? Otherwise, good review as always!
It´s like a Golf....or it should have been. Interior is like a Polo. Very poor on VW side missing the mark on this car especially for price. Mazda CX-30 is the clear choice between these two.
In indian we are unlucky to get volkswagen updated car I don't knw why volkswagen not updated past 10years I bought volkswagen vento it's amazing performance but version outdated
Just bought a T ROC and I noticed in your review that there were radio station logos loaded. I’ve tried but can’t get them to load. VW dealership say VW removed that function. Does anyone know how to load them.?
No diesel why wouldn’t they have the 2 litre motor as in golf my golf economy is 5.5 combined and as low as 4.9 on a long drive backward move when economy is a big point in to the future
@@CarExpertAus I've had 5 VW Golfs now, all Motability so I get a new one every 3 years. All VW are the same inside, but I think they are classy compared to the competition. Name a brand with a better quality interior that doesn't look trashy for the same money. Fords/Vauxhall/Toyota/Nissan/Citreon/Peugeot all look terrible inside and are cheap. You get a solid car with VW.
I got a 20 t roc type r as you get the tints and the r seats,I got the beats upgrade.. nice suvs much better than the Audi Q2 as I tested one out... wheels are nice... and two built in computers.... downside I’d say is the boot size.. my golf mk3 can get more in the boot.. headroom is good in the back. Like the built in roof bars for kayaks... I like the road assist and throws you into lanes and keeps you central it’s fun... I got petrol 1.5... plenty of power...
the only two issues with this car : scratchy plastics and pathetic space in the second row! i mean how hard was it for VW to add 2 inches more while designing this car??
Just test drove a t-roc with optional package. Loved it. My deisel passat was stolen and written off, so I admit it doesn't have the grunt i loved. But life presents a new time and this car with options package is pretty damn cool!
We only get 1 variant of troc and it's the best compared to other cars in India. Since the car is manufactured in Germany, it has more safety to it than the Kia Seltos or Hyundai Creta in India. India just got the T roc 2021 and ordered it right away.
It's kind of baffling that a lot of the reason why people buy Volkswagen is because it's seen as a quasi-premium brand in Australia, and yet the interior of this and the T-Cross does not feel premium at all. Would rather have a Skoda version of either, because even as the "cheaper" brand they're more luxuriously appointed. This isn't even available with electric seats at all and yet the Kamiq is for almost $10k less all optioned up!
@@kensouza9239 The driving dynamics go some way towards Australia's perception of Volkswagen being a premium brand but the rest of it has traditionally been the premium touches in the interior, which none of their current "affordable" SUVs actually seem to have. Their previous models have had premium materials, hell even the hatchbacks these two SUVs are based on have more premium materials.
I can't believe how poor the image is on the dashboard of that car. I have a T-roc and the screen and dash are pin sharp clear. Think it should be mentioned to the dealer so it can be recalibrated, I really can't believe that can be correct..
I'm going with a t cross DSG. While there is lag I think it is a a smarter option over manual gears. Life of gear boxes is a major thing if you want to avoid the getting a new car cycle. A car should be a 7-10 year investment
Hey Paul - great review as always! What are your thoughts on the sound quality of the Beats package? I am accustom to the Bose systems in Mazda's which IMO sound pretty good (bass wise and clarity) - how does it compare to something like that? Cheers
I like the look of this but at the moment my Golf Alltrack suits me better. Bigger boot (605/1620), higher ground clearance and almost as powerful (132kW/280Nm). Once my son has gone from the house I would probably consider one just for my wife and I.

I'm going to the dealership to buy it. Can't wait, thanks for the informative video.
Edit: purchased the car for a couple of months now. I love it!
The dealership should have given Paul some commission
Is the sunroof good?
Hi. Are you still loving it? Is it drama free? Very very tempted to get one myself.
Do you still love the car ?

I'm a 20 year Toyota man and have just ordered the 140 sport!
I like the car despite the hard plastic 👍😊..thanks for the review!
Review the Skoda Karoq Sportline! It’s much better value for money and is nicer to drive.
Will try and get our hands on one soon!
VW is just out pricing themselves across all models while having same engines. Seems one is paying for the badge and segment name.
This. Too many better options with better price tags these days
Always buy a used one
The Kamiq is based on the same platform but with more specs and more spacious 2nd row, air vents in back row, dual climate control, virtual cockpit and electric tailgate standard and 5k cheaper! I know which one Im getting
The 'sport' is not the entry level, that car has a lot of extras, not a entry level

True Kelly, I've a new golf 2019 I'm 6,1 and find it more difficult getting in and out of as its quite low but overall a great solid car

Škoda is part of the VW group anyway so they still get your ca$h lol.

Review the 110 TSI model , is it worth spending 5K more compared to T-Cross style

Looking forward to driving the new Golf. Especially the GTI!
Thanks mate. Now a comparison Test is due
Great vehicle!
Don’t know how reliable vw will be in the long time, especially when they only offer 5 year warranty and the t-roc is $40,000.
I really like the exterior design
looks like a Audio Q 3

Why would you get this over the much nicer and cheaper Skoda Kamiq?
Probably because well its a Skoda....
I’m getting more impressed with Kia infotainment system compared to VW same line of cars.
Great review. Thank you. Only if the boot was a little bigger. I see your point with the display, very pixelated
Hopefully some of these things will be addressed with the mid-life update due in the next year or two.

Every box ticked! As tested price was $46,590 (+$600 for paint, +$3500 for Luxury Package and +$2000 for Sound and Style Package).
I had a 2012 Polo 77 Comfortline with no hard plastics. Back then prices started at $16990!!!!
Shame the prices now don’t reflect the quality.
Full petrol engine in 2021? Srsly? 10l/100 in 2021??! Srsly????
LOL
is this the 2.0L 140km model? and it's $40k? pricing for the new 2022 T-roc is significantly higher!

Nice on paul, yeah VW and there cost cutting scratchy plastics,no lined door bins and glove box.Big money for scratchy plastic.
pretty sure the wireless charging and the digital radio is an extra option you can get though, so you can solve those points with money
