    This video goes over how to replace a PCV valve on a 2007 Toyota Camry four-cylinder 2.4. This should be the same process for any 2007- 2011 Toyota Camry with a 2.4 motor. PCV stands for (Positive Crankcase Ventilation). A PCV valve controls emissions. Essentially it takes gas produced by the motor and routes it back into the combustion chamber to be burned without harming your vehicle. If the valve doesn’t open and close on schedule or if any part of the system clogs, the result can be rough idle, sluggish acceleration or increased oil consumption. The PCV system allows for cleaner exhaust, prevents blow-by at seals and gaskets and removes crankcase gas generated by the combustion process that would sludge up and destroy the engine if left unchecked. It also allows the engine to perform better, run more efficiently, which produces better fuel economy. For whatever reason, PCV valves are usually overlooked and neglected and really should be part of your normal routine maintenance at least every 50,000 miles.

    I have the same car with manual transmissions and with 254,000 miles. It doesn't burn a drop of oil but it idles funky from time to time, specially with the a/c on. Throttle body is clean, so I'm gonna try the PCV next. For what they cost, it's worth a shot.

I might’ve waited too long as I might have a little bit of a oil leak in one of the gaskets possibly valve cover. I just replace the valve cover gasket about 10,000 miles ago.

      @@TheAutoTeacher do you know the torque specs for the valve cover gasket in a camry 99.

    • @TheAutoTeacher
      @TheAutoTeacher  2 роки тому +1

      On the Internet I’ve seen everything from 4 foot pounds to 30 foot pounds. It’s a two-step process.I personally torque them to 17 foot pounds and then do a 90 degrees .You definitely don’t want to stretch your bolts. Most the time I just do it by feel. You want to make sure that you torque them evenly and consistently through the process and follow the torque sequence for the valve cover.

    200k and no oil burning? Which oil did the car use and any suggestions on maintenance focused on oil consumption beside pcv valve change?

    • @TheAutoTeacher
      @TheAutoTeacher  Рік тому +2

      Used Castrol GTX High Mileage Synthetic Blend Motor oil.
      Be timely and consistent with your oil changes and always use a good quality oil. A lot of people don't consistently change oil on time and then use the cheapest bargain price oil they can find to save a couple dollars.
      Doing this for extended miles can cause oil consumption and hurt the dependability/longevity of the engine.

  • @tempestuosx

    2:55 what does it mean "see if it leaks or not" ? i'm guessing checking engine oil level as miles are put on to see if its dropping?
    edit: 3:11 you follow up with: "if idles varying" so i'm guessing that's the answer to my question

    • @TheAutoTeacher
      @TheAutoTeacher  Рік тому +2

      If the idle varies was referring to the condition of the hose going to the PCV valve. If the hose is questionable, it can lead to variations in your idle, stalling, etc. And the oil level will just have to be checked as the vehicle is driven to see if the PCV valve helped .

    • @TheAutoTeacher
      @TheAutoTeacher  4 місяці тому

      Nearly every time a P0442 is triggered on a Toyota, it will be because the gas cap is missing, improperly affixed (i.e., not closed tightly), or leaking. A PO456 is
      “Evaporative Emission System (EVAP) Small Leak Detected.” Your car's computer will trigger this code when it thinks that there's a minor leak somewhere in the evaporative emissions control (EVAP) system. Nothing to do with your spark plugs, but the spark plugs are easy to replace in this vehicle.
