Some models of PCV's are designed to NOT fully close, so even a new OEM PCV will pass a bit of air. The balloon test is only valid for certain models, that are supposed to fully close. The only way to tell which type you have is to buy an OEM PCV, and do this balloon test on it, then compare with your old one.
this way the test may be inaccurate. The suction pipe is connected to the place where you attach the balloon. Oil vapor comes from the large part. I think it should normally be closed on both sides, and when the pressure increases, the valve should be opened with the help of the suction. In this way, the valve always remains open and oil vapor constantly flows to the suction.
I checked the PCV valve using balloon test as well. I inflated as you did and then leave it for a couple of minutes. As minutes goes by, the ballon deflated very slowly. In fact I heard a hissing sound on the PCV valve when deflating So my question is a good PCV valve should be totally air tight sealed or not? Thanks
try to clean the pcv valve first, but if it still leaking maybe you need to change a new one..pcv will close on engine shutdown and if there is a backfire..thanks for watching
I cleaned it throughly using carb cleaner but there's still hissing sound in the PCV valve. Though the balloon air takes totally deflated in 4 minutes. I replaced my Camry genuine parts PCV valve 2.5 year ago. I travel roughy 6k miles yearly. My question is PVC valve should be air tight sealed when testing a balllon or it just prefectly normal a hissing sound can be heard. Only thing I do different is to half way fill up the valve with gumout and THEN holding both ends closed I shake the heck out of it and repeat until the valve sounds nice and loose and the cleaner is coming out clear. Once dry I blow through the outlet end to see if it is sealing ok. Good enough for me.

Hi can you help me the crankcase breather valve on my skoda fabia i combi 6y5 1.4 mpi only allows air one way, at idle the engine pulls air through the PCV valve inside the crankcase is that normal? shouldnt it be the other way around? i tried blowing air through the breather valve and it only goes one way towards inside the crankcase which means it can never push out the gases throught the valve. Is this normal? i cant find any information, only found one guy saying something about one way pcv valve, but why is that one way towards the crankcase it should let air go towards intake :( what do i do?
The breather hose is connected from the intake pipe where the fresh air come from, then it pass thru the crank case, and from the crank case unburned gases exit to the pcv due to the vacuum. And the pcv hose is connected to the intake manifold where unburned gases is injected. I think its normal .

Not all pcv-s are one-way. The easiest way to check, with pcv out, is to block intake side and apply vacuum (a syringe or something) on the cover side.
