- A DIY auto mechanic describes must-have tips for replacing and cleaning Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve on a 2007 Toyota Camry with a 2AZ-FE 2.4 Liter VVT-i engine.
The most obvious symptom of a bad PCV valve /Silent Engine Killer is the performance of your vehicle will gradually decrease. This can be exhibited by a buildup of pressure in the exhaust or the engine could stall out. The bad PCV valve may not close all the way and allow gas to flow into the piston combustion chamber causing excessive oil consumption or white smoke from the tailpipe. A stuck or closed valve may cause leaks around oil seals or gaskets producing multiple pools of oil beneath the vehicle, moisture and sludge buildup inside the engine, and higher idle speeds. A new or clean functioning valve will rattle sharply when shaken.
