Thank you for this video..like most others, I was used to the constant, non-stop agitation sound of the old washer and thought my new one had something wrong with it..glad it's normal! I also have a problem with the unit being so light weight...the slightest bit of offset in weight, and the whole unit does a dance around the floor, and I have to go out and sit on it to keep it still while spinning!! And yes, it is levelled.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought this noise is really annoying and thought it was a defect. Washer works great but we hate the noise and liked how quiter our old washer was.
Just had my GTW465ASNWW installed today and am currently washing my first load of laundry as I type this - and listening to the grinding sound. It's unfortunate that my laundry room is outside of my bedroom door. Even with both bedroom and laundry room doors closed, it's a loud and unfamiliar sound. Will see how well it cleans and then try out my new dryer. The one thing that would convince me to keep it is that the laundry room is on the third level (above) ground of my house and the delivery guys literally groaned out loud when I showed them to the room. I get it, but I'm used to it. Those poor guys sweated profusely. As did the HVAC guys and the water heater guys . . . because that's where everything is! But I do tip well because I understand.
Literally in the first cycle this very minute - and had to google WTF is going on here. Not sure if I can live with it or not. NO QUESTION GE should have had a warning on this prior to purchase.
This thing is Driving Us CRAZY ! GE should give life time supply of Ear Plugs with this Damn Thing ! I worked in The Strip Mines with the Loudest and Largest machinery in the World , and NONE of them made an Annoying Sound like this Washing machine Makes ! (All you Old Folks remember Sears ? Their machines didn't make noise and lasted 20 years !)
I bought this washer a week ago. It was the only brand to fit into the space in my laundry room. The noise while agitating is horrendous. I will remodel my laundry room before I ever purchase another one one like it. Unbelievable for the technology in this day and age.
Recently purchased top loader washer GE500 & companion dryer to replace our 21 year old Sears washer & dryer. I can't believe how the clothes can get clean with so little water but it does! We do hate the loud noises the washer makes. Thank goodness the laundry room is in the basement! Really love the new dryer. Clothes dry so much quicker than our old dryer.
I have a similar GE washer with 3 knobs and it makes the exact same noise. I've had my washer for 3 years now and it still washes clothes better than most newer machines that don't have an agitator. At first the noise bothered my wife and I until we found out that even some other major brands made the same loud noise as well. It only took us roughly two weeks to get so used to the noise that we naturally just stopped paying attention to it for the most part. I'm actually satisfied with my washer and glad that its not making a high pitched grinding sound instead of its normal operating sound...
At 1st used, I & also my husband thought something wrong with the new washing machine when agitating but good that when watching this video, the sound is just normal. The good point , it really cleans good and I like it very much.
Just bought the GTW680BSJWS and it sounds exactly the same as this unit. While we're happy with it's performance and options, made in the USA, the noise is a bit disappointing. Wonder if there is a way we can insulate the motor/side panels to reduce?
GE should be ashamed to sell this product but they obviously are not because 6 years later the product hasn't improved one bit. Truly amazing that something like this could go through an entire design and QA process and this is what you have as a finished product? I just bought the same machine under the Hotpoint badge. Same piece of junk. My laundry area is on the second floor and you can hear the dying animal noise all over the house which is a total non-starter. And it just doesn't clean well, which is the whole point of a washing machine. I'm sending it back and replacing it with a Maytag commercial washer.
Was genuinely concerned mine was broken until I put in the model number to find this video and lo and behold it's normal. Oh well not bad for my first washer. Will be getting a maytag next time
Holy Cow! This washer is LOUD!!!! Why? Just why? I gave my Kenmore away because there was a need in the family. I have been wanting a newer one big enough to wash bulky comforters. I guess I'll get used to it but I am disappointed. It sounds like I got an inferior washer.
Glad I found this video. My 27 year old Speed Queen that just broke after 27 years was as quiet as a church mouse. This is a Godzilla size design flaw. Never again. I give it 2-3 years. Maytag next time.
We're sorry for any issues that you've had, and that you're not pleased with the design. If we can help with anything, please reach out to us on social media with your model/serial number. All the best.- KW
once my washer dryer was home, installed and ready to use theres nothing that would get me to swap it out other than it actually stop working. way too much work to do all that over a little noise that is normal anywya lol
No. I don't just hate things. I'm pissed off with a company that sells products on falls advertising. That model was the replacement for one that worked amazing. completely different washing machine. and how they handled the issue was so GD pitiful. it's not just me who's upset. it's the whole damn USA.
I called the company today and told them I want to return this machine....it was stressing me to the point of anxiety as it is not washing properly and some of the clothe came out dry where the water did not even touch it!! so how does clothe get clean without water? hope the Genius behind this design will rethink and recalcualte his design to come up with something that you can actually call a WACHING MACHINE!!!
We just bought the new GE washer because our old GE (that I loved) was 13 years old and the spin cycle and small load water level quit working. This is the most annoying sound I could have imagined for a machine to make. Can't believe I'm going to have to listen to this for years.
Hi there. Thanks for reaching out. We're terribly sorry to hear that your washer is making an annoying sound. This isn't expected, and we would like to help. Whenever possible, please send us a private message on any of our social media accounts which includes a brief description of the problem as well as the model/serial numbers. Thanks. -AT
Thank you so much.. like the others, thought I had a bad one still not happy with how loud it is or how much it vibrates when on spin. cloth will be bone dry by the time this thing stops
We just got this model and it squeaks during agitation, no matter how you arrange the load. It also doesn't spin the water out of the clothes. I literally have to wring the water out every time. What gives, GE?
I just had mine delivered yesterday. I upgraded from an older top load agitator listening to it threw me off at first. I was used to the faster shshshsh as opposed to this sh sh sh sh. Thank you for sharing this video, I thought mine was not agitating properly. :) and please note I don't do sound effects very well.
oh my...that agitating noise is agitating me. So I come to this site and turned on the video and said oh no there it is again. I am hopin to get used to this.

+GE Appliances thanks..yes I had already reviewed...and I do believe since it was just installed that it has that extra sawing noise. I am going to be just great with this new washer and dryer!! just did my first load and very happy. Trying that prefill cycle on load 2. :)
I'm guessing this is what happens when you apply for a job at GE with graduating High School. Not only does it sound broken from new, it makes the nearby light flicker. So I guess GE is just gaslighting everyone. Biggest problem is you can't try them out before you buy them.
just got mine to replace old one as it was leaking , it too sounds like this hopefully it washes good it’s first load. kinda wish i fixed the old one and saved money. in general the old one felt more solid these new ones seem so cheap
Just bought this used from a guy on FB and thought I was getting a great deal because they are almost brand-new. Well after hearing the first wash I can see why he was trying to unload this washer, it sounds terrible, this has to be the worst decision GE has made. I will never buy another GE appliance, very disappointed.
I have the same washer and I find the noise very annoying. Yes I have problems with the machine pulling away from the wall sometimes a foot away on one wash cycle. Besides those two annoyances I find the machine does a great job on my clothes.
This is how mine sounds but a little slower it sounds like you’re trying to start a car on a cold morning and it doesn’t wanna start I’m very concerned about this but it seems to be normal maybe
Mine is like this as well. I can't imagine how it cleans - and it doesn't. There should not be a pause of any kind, otherwise it's not truly agitating, it's just slowly going back and forth. The problem is this won't be covered by warranty because it's working as designed apparently, it's just a poor design. And now I have to buy something that actually agitates (and has water would also be nice) Thanks to original poster because I thought I was going crazy with the slow movement and figured it was broken. Note the sound doesn't bother me as mine is in garage.
WAY TOO LOUD!!! Did my video-review research before buying, but none of the videos showed the true noise level. The agitator sound, sounds like two gears rubbing together in a echo chamber. VERY LOUD distressing noise. It sounds like it's broken. I called GE and they said that's THEIR NORMAL. If I knew it was this loud, I NEVER would have bought it.
Hello, Thank you for choosing GE Appliances, and congratulations on your new purchase! We apologize that the sounds may not have met your expectations. We understand that this can be concerning, especially with a new appliance. It's great that you're looking into the sounds your unit might make. A noise that sounds similar to an electric can opener is normal. During load agitation, the agitator rotates in one direction, followed by a short pause, and then rotates in the opposite direction. This gives it an electric pulsing, humming, or buzzing noise that you hear in this video. Please know that our appliances come with a limited one-year warranty. If you are concerned with the noise, or anything else, feel free to have a technician come out to take a look by calling 1-800-432-2737. We're always here if you need anything. Take care. -SH
Hi - if your washer is making a sound considerably louder than the noise in this clip, then you might want to have service out to check it. Here's a link for our on-line service page: www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/service.htm?ICID=GEARsupportflyout-service Thanks -CC
@@geappliances hello, got a question. just bought a new washer GTW500ASNWS and the agitator (or infusor?), the one that spins one direction then the other, sounds a bit more noisy than this, but not too much more. it sounds like theres a slight rattle, like somethings loose or some parts are vibrating against each other. is this a problem?
I have a question I recently purchased this same model. When I put it on "precise fill", I hear a noise I do not hear with the other size settings like small, medium, large, and super. When I change it to another size setting, the noise stops. Is a different noise for the precise fill setting suppose to happen?
Hi Gears, when the unit fills you may hear a waterfall sound and electric hum, see below context in the link : products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=23061 If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to reach back out to us anytime.
@GE Appliances The lid locking/sensing is the sound I heard. Thank you very much for the information. About how long does that sound go on until it stops and the washing machine starts to fill with water?
Hi Gears, Good question. We are happy to assist with product feature information, use and care and basic troubleshooting of appliances! Models with Precise Fill (load sensing) will lock during the load sensing period and during the spin cycle. see notes below: products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=22820 Thanks for asking! kg
Hello Ashley, thanks for reaching out to us and we will be glad to assist with this informative troubleshooting link: products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=21894 I hope this helps! -SF
Just bought a condo with this GE washer and the washer is almost brand new, but damn, life is too short to listen to this absurdly noisy agitator. Sounds like a wildebeest moaning in agony. Anyone have a suggestion for a QUIET full size washer suitable for a condo?
Hello Zamaryahu, Congratulations on your new washer and dryer set. Depending on your model the cycle can take 94 minutes in the sanitize cycle and the heavy duty and normal wash can take approximately an hour. Keep in mind those are approximate without any other options selected. JW
@@geappliances No 94 minutes is rediculous- my old machine, sadly died after 24 years(jan. 1995 - Dec.-2019) and I could do a cycle in less than 30 minutes , ending of course with the spinning.
Just bought this machine yesterday, after my older model (which i personally love) broke down after 12 years. The washer sound does not bother me, but it did throw me off. My concern is, does it really wash? Does it remove stains? How long does a normal cycle run? These new machines do not go by the minutes as the older models? Help!!
+Adriana Castaneda Hi Adriana, yes it does really wash clothes and removes stains well. You can expect a normal to take a little over 60 mins. You can always use the deep rinse feature to ensure the clothes are thoroughly rinsed.
ALL of these new washers ARE CRAP!!! They take in little water (Energy efficient *yeah right*) They DO NOT wash clothes properly because there is NOT enough water. What you will get is detergent stains on your clothes. Best thing to do is buy a used OLD washer & it will do a much much better job. This is what I done, well to be honest I purchased 2 used old washers, keep 1 as a spare. My NEW washer went back, trust me it will be the best thing you do
Bought this machine a week ago and thought there was a construction site in the laundry room !!! Who made this damn machine with all that noise not happy with it ! If I could give it back I would Asap Don't buy too much noise for even being "normal" smh
Guys these new he models ALL make this noise. Even MAYTAG. Who deigns these? Is there any logic to this noise?? The real problem is that there is NOTHING BETTER out there in the market. My old Kitchen Aid was picked up when I purchased this new model 20 years later. It was a beauty! Quiet, old school, with agitator, I controlled the water. Just perfect. I was so stupid to send it for recycling. I thought the products had improved. These companies have absolutely NO SENSE of what they need to design. Everything is for money, and marketing you to buy, buy buy. ....Anyways, does anyone know of a GOOD washing machine that does not make noise and is a TOP LOAD with an agitator? I can't seem to find one.
Hi Rick, thanks for purchasing our exciting new GE washer. Does it sound similar to the video that is posted? If so, that is normal. If not, then I recommend scheduling a service appointment with an authorized GE Appliance technician who can accurately diagnose and repair your appliance. You can schedule an appointment online at: www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/service.htm Thank you. -SF

This washer is a piece of shit! We couldn't believe this is the sound on a brand new machine. We are going to try to return it because of the sound. I have to go upstairs the noise is so irritating!
Just bought GTW460 washer and mine sounds just like that.( like a cow getting punched in the stomach) I hate the sound. I had a GE washer that lasted for 12 years and it was quieter that this. I want to return it for a different one.
Hello El Guapo - Congratulations on your new washer! This is a very nice model. We're sorry you do not like the agitation sound. The new smart drive system is designed to produce less noise, reduce wear on clothing and maintain great cleaning performance. We appreciate your feedback. Thanks for choosing GE Appliances! -NC
Hello Bobbie, we are sorry you feel this way about your washer. The new smart drive system is designed to produce less noise, reduce wear on clothing and maintain great cleaning performance. The water spraying is an energy saver method to saturate the clothes during fill/rinse cycles. We do appreciate your feedback and will pass it along to our product team. Thank you. -SF
@@geappliances how the fuck can you say it's designed to produce less noise when every comment here says it's exponentially louder than their older machines?
overall, how do u guys like the washer? I just bought 1 today. but during normal wash, its taking a bit long to get going? but on heavy duty, it seems to be working fine.
Just bought mine yesterday, everyone has the flu and ours broke in the middle of it! We have washed towels and sheets it was doing fine now we are trying t shirts and jeans and it's not working! how is you're doing ?
+Ashley Rainwater took me a while to get used to it. still working just fine. although heavy duty takes longer than normal wash. maybe u can unplug n reset it.
Seriously GE you respond to this while ALL others cannot stand this HIGHLY ANNOYING sound. I just bought mine this week and guess what GE, NOT only am I going to RETURN this brand new set. I will NEVER purchase a GE product again. There's my support!
Hi Nurse Jolly, we sincerely regret to lose your business. Your comments are important to us and our product design division takes into account suggestions, such as yours. Thank you for your feedback. kg
I just bought one and I dont understand how its even washing. Its aint doing shit. Just a pulse spin..... wtf. Put it on heavy and does the same thing it does on every other option...seems like a real piece of shit.
Just got the washer today, absolutely hate the grinding sound. Not only that, everytime it adds in water, it sounds like you are right next to a huge 100 thousands volts transformer, the humming sounds is so loud and disturbing and make you go nuts. You can NOT stand next to this machine for more than 30 seconds once it starts . It is going back to the store. GE couldn't even add some cheap isolation to dampen the sound and they don't care about the user experience. I guess GE team are happy with this performance and it is acceptable to them. Last GE appliance. In a word, if you plan to take care of dried clothes in the laundry room where this washer is, you just CANNOT and high voltage transformer humming sound and agitator grinding sound will drive you insane after 10 seconds. I read about the noise online before my purchase so I was prepared somewhat on my mind, however I am not prepared for this kind level of unbearable noise. Unbelievable product which can pass the quality control from GE factory, so you can see how low the bar is for GE.
Sure thought I would have a new quiet machine..😢 the only set I could afford but wish i had kept my 20 year old .i can not put wash in and go to bed any more. TOO LOUD. even my dog stares at it. Spin on and off WAY LOUD, DOG BARKING AT IT
We can understand wanting a good night's sleep. If your washer is shaking a lot or walking, take a look at this article to see if it helps: spklr.io/6057WFwz.
This is very disheartening. This loud noise during agitation is normal? Why, with so many complaints over 7 years, would you continue to produce this washer. It appears GE made no attempt to resolve the sound issue. Wish I knew this before my purchase. I was told top loading washers clean better and last longer, but I would trade this machine for any other model. I'm so disappointed and would NEVER recommend this product. I also had to have a service man in to repair the lights and chimes that went off 24/7 due to the Mother Board. No more GE for me, unless they replace this washer
Hi Vivienne, Thanks for reaching out. So sorry to hear about the board issues you had with your unit, we can understand how that'd be frustrating for sure. Glad to know that you were able to reach out and get it taken care of though. Just had this washer delivered / installed. I came upon this video while searching to find out if the extremely loud agitator noise is normal. It is! Sounds like a cell phone on vibrate going off atop a metal table. Zzzz Zzzz Zzzz Zzzz Really freaking loud! Really annoying! Can't escape the noise, it echoes through the house. Pissed 😡
Why in gods name does this washer have to be so loud? It sounds like metal gears grinding. I keep picturing a bunch of men (sorry) sitting around a conference table thinking this is a good idea. Unacceptable engineering.
We are sorry to hear that our unit was too loud. We hope to earn your trust in the future. If we can look into this situation for you please send us a private message with some more information, and we will be happy to help. Sincerely-DM

This is our brand new washer too. At least it's normal sounding 😂
After it finally started after 2.5 minutes the rubbing or grinding sound is irritating we will see how it goes
You should do the gtw525acpwb operation sounds including agitation.
just got mine to replace old one as it was leaking , it too sounds like this hopefully it washes good it’s first load. kinda wish i fixed the old one and saved money. in general the old one felt more solid these new ones seem so cheap
Just bought this used from a guy on FB and thought I was getting a great deal because they are almost brand-new. Well after hearing the first wash I can see why he was trying to unload this washer, it sounds terrible, this has to be the worst decision GE has made. I will never buy another GE appliance, very disappointed.
Chile I thought sumn was wrong with my ish 😂😂😂 so it wasn’t just me 😭🤣
Mine makes a grinding noise and won't finish it rinse cycle.
mine is da same noise is it saposto sound lik dat
I have the same washer and I find the noise very annoying. Yes I have problems with the machine pulling away from the wall sometimes a foot away on one wash cycle. Besides those two annoyances I find the machine does a great job on my clothes.
This is how mine sounds but a little slower it sounds like you’re trying to start a car on a cold morning and it doesn’t wanna start I’m very concerned about this but it seems to be normal maybe
Is this normal?
Mine is like this as well. I can't imagine how it cleans - and it doesn't. There should not be a pause of any kind, otherwise it's not truly agitating, it's just slowly going back and forth. The problem is this won't be covered by warranty because it's working as designed apparently, it's just a poor design. And now I have to buy something that actually agitates (and has water would also be nice)
Thanks to original poster because I thought I was going crazy with the slow movement and figured it was broken. Note the sound doesn't bother me as mine is in garage.
We will be happy to share your feedback, Clayton. Your comments are important to our product team.
I'd like to hear the gtw525 agitation.
Wow perfect agitating washer it sounds nice 🥰😍
Absolutely HATE mine!! It's going back Monday morning!!!! Thanks for the video though.
+buddman1313 We are sorry to hear you feel this way.
Care to explain?
Great to hear! Thanks for the love.
Bring back the filter-flos!
Just had the machine installed today. Cannot believe the grinding noise during the wash cycle. From what I'm reading, this is normal. Ugh
Hello,
Thank you for choosing GE Appliances, and congratulations on your new purchase!
Take care. -SH
G.E. Brings good things to life. Sometimes these things are a lil loud,
LOLOLOL
It should have stayed DOA!
Its absolutely normal to hear that loud sound of to metal pieces grinding up. The sound is as loud as a sports car reving their engine
Hi - if your washer is making a sound considerably louder than the noise in this clip, then you might want to have service out to check it. Here's a link for our on-line service page:

Hi Gears, when the unit fills you may hear a waterfall sound and electric hum, see below context in the link : products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=23061
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to reach back out to us anytime.
Models with Precise Fill (load sensing) will lock during the load sensing period and during the spin cycle. see notes below: products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=22820 Thanks for asking! kg

Just bought a condo with this GE washer and the washer is almost brand new, but damn, life is too short to listen to this absurdly noisy agitator. Sounds like a wildebeest moaning in agony. Anyone have a suggestion for a QUIET full size washer suitable for a condo?
how many minutes is the wash cycle seems to be taking forever just received this new set yesterday
1995 - Dec.-2019) and I could do a cycle in less than 30 minutes , ending of course with the spinning.
correction (1985-2019)
Just bought this machine yesterday, after my older model (which i personally love) broke down after 12 years. The washer sound does not bother me, but it did throw me off. My concern is, does it really wash? Does it remove stains? How long does a normal cycle run? These new machines do not go by the minutes as the older models? Help!!
+Adriana Castaneda Hi Adriana, yes it does really wash clothes and removes stains well. You can expect a normal to take a little over 60 mins. You can always use the deep rinse feature to ensure the clothes are thoroughly rinsed.
Jamaris, it's varies and is dependent on the chosen spin cycle!
Great!
My NEW washer went back, trust me it will be the best thing you do
I miss the filter-flos! Please bring them back! Thank you!
Just got mine yesterday and I thought something was wrong with it, but I guess that's just the noise it makes when it agitates. 🙄
Maybe The first holy communion Girls were already dizzy
Bought this machine a week ago and thought there was a construction site in the laundry room !!! Who made this damn machine with all that noise not happy with it ! If I could give it back I would Asap Don't buy too much noise for even being "normal" smh
I normally never buy warranties. After buying this, I bought the 5 year warranty. Sounds like it may not make a year.
I’m like WTH it sound like that but yea glad to hear it’s normal
well after reading all the reviews which i should have done before purchase. i will prob return
Zamaryahu, Please let us know the model you have and we will be happy to give you more specifics. JW
@@geappliances I have the model 465 did my first load and it's so loud! Sounds just like the video. Is this normal??
@@geappliances well...is this normal?
When my washer agitates it sounds like it needs greased, it makes a loud rubbing sound
Hi Rick, thanks for purchasing our exciting new GE washer. Does it sound similar to the video that is posted? If so, that is normal. Our new one sounds like this - I mean turn your volume all the way up to be fair :-( - but they said it would pass in a few weeks...

This washer is a piece of shit! We couldn't believe this is the sound on a brand new machine. We are going to try to return it because of the sound. I have to go upstairs the noise is so irritating!
What the hell is this?
The lid lock light was on in the previous fill video and now in agitation it shows off. Unless I am going god dam blind.
Yes, same washer, same noise, Factory should have caught this in Testing, or maybe they dont test..
Just bought GTW460 washer and mine sounds just like that.( like a cow getting punched in the stomach) I hate the sound. I had a GE washer that lasted for 12 years and it was quieter that this. I want to return it for a different one.

Will not go into spin cycle

Pissed 😡
Just got the model like this with the push buttons and clear lid and its honestly no louder than our old maytag that was at least 15 years old was
Why in gods name does this washer have to be so loud? It sounds like metal gears grinding. I keep picturing a bunch of men (sorry) sitting around a conference table thinking this is a good idea. Unacceptable engineering.
I just bought this and very annoyed with the sound. I’ve dealt with GE my whole life and never encountered this.
In the process of returning it. It was way louder than even in this video. Don’t buy this item
