Thank you. This was useful. We thought that the brand new washer was broken, but it simply had one of these shipping rods. The last time my grandpa had put one in was about 15 years ago and they have added the rods since then. It was very helpful that this was linked to from the video on how to level one.

If you move the washer without the shipping rod installed, it is possible for the brackets that the shipping rod goes through to get tangled and the tub to become off plumb and cause a lot of problems

I have a question, could the washer be broking right away if I forgot to remove the shipping rod? I removed the shipping rod after when I heard the banging, clanking noise during the start up of the spinning. How much time do I have before the washer broke down? Please help.

Thanks for reaching out to us, Houa! All GE top-load washer tubs are designed to move freely within our exclusive balance system. This system consists of a rod and spring floating suspension, designed to withstand extensive out of balance situations without the need for an "out of balance" switch. If the shipping rod has been removed before the washer was installed in its final location, the tub may become hung up, in which it would make a loud noise during operation. If this is the case, service may be needed to re-center the tub. However, if your washer runs well upon removing the shipping rod, it should be fine. We are happy to help if further assistance is needed!

I need to take mine to the shop and I still have the shipping rod but I'm not sure where to put it in the washer as it's been 11 yrs ago since I bought it.

If you are in front of your washer the shipping rod goes on the right side. You'll see a small hole. Copy and paste the following link in your browser for more information. spklr.io/6058UonG

If I ran the washer only for a few minutes with the rod inserted will the washer need to be repaired?

      Hey Barry!
Not necessarily. The shipping material, if left on the unit, is likely to cause some banging/walking. If this shipping material isn't removed and you continue to run the unit, then this has the potential to cause some issues. If you've removed the shipping material since, keep an ear out the next time you do some laundry. Below is an article that talks about normal and abnormal sounds:

I bet that rod protects the tub from moving too much during transit

  • @Tx86Mommyof3

Bullshit!!!! It doesn't even do that!!! You pull the yellow tag, tag rips off but rod is still in there. I need to wash clothes already I have to wait even longer for husband to get home and to do it. Just ridiculous!!! Today is my only day off. Next time GE come up with better ways to take rod out instead of relying on a yellow plastic tag to do the job!!! Seriously!!!
