Hey there KaliWali. I think I speak for all of us here. When it comes to the screen tearing, we don't mind. We're here for your experience. We can't experience this game for the first time again, so we experience it through creators like you. I hope you enjoy the playthrough. I'm subscribing now.

Just a note about the fan that offers to buy you a drink. He's not flirting, he says the same thing to male Shepard and is just being friendly. I can see how it seems different but he's just a fan, not a flirt.

Licences mean that you can buy and have the goods shipped to the Normandy to the guy in the cargo area if i remember correctly.
It means that you don't need to visit the citadel to buy stuff, just buy it in the cargo bay.

I love how into exploration you are! I'm glad you're also reading the codex off screen to get yourself acquainted with the lore. It definitely makes things less confusing going forward. Now, if you haven't been told these already, here are 3 big tips:
    TEAM BALANCE
This is a good thing to consider, but it's not really necessary. At least it's not important enough that it should get in the way of you bringing a squad member you really like. For example, if you like the idea of putting Ashley and Garrus on a team, but are worried that there are no biotics, don't be. The extreme combat and tech abilities more than make up for lack of biotics. Likewise on a team that's heavy on the biotics but not tech. Etc. If you can anticipate the kind of enemies you'll be facing, that can help you decide. Like if you KNOW you're gonna' be fighting geth, well...certain team members would clearly be interested in/well suited for that. It's also good to think about what weapons work best in different scenarios, and what weapons each team member specializes in. Speaking of specializing...
    CHARM, ELECTRONICS, AND DECRYPTION
These are the three most important things you want to make sure to have maxed out throughout the playthrough. I say "Charm" and not "Intimidate", because it seems like you want to be charming. Sometimes picking the intimidating option is fine, but if you're sticking with Charm, you should max out those points, and not put any more points into Intimidate, as that would be a waste. As for Electronics and Decryption, you've already seen what these allow you to do, and you will be locked out of some content until these skills are high enough. Squadmates with either of these skills maxed out can compensate for your personal lack, but one of the reasons why Engineer and Infiltrator are my favorite classes is that they can both do these skills as well. It depends on your play style of course, but if you like Electronics and Decryption, and max both of them out for yourself, you'll never have to worry. Make sure to remember what you're currently locked out of, so you can go back later.
    EAVESDROPPING
You've already seen that listening to the news can get you side quests. Well, stopping and listening to people's conversations can do that too! Make sure to listen whenever you hear anyone talking. Also, it can be hard to notice, but when squadmates make little noises in certain places (like here - 7:58 - here - 47:05 - and here - 2:10:40), that means they have something specific to say about the area that you can hear by clicking on them. Specifically for the Citadel, you should see what Wrex has to say about the krogan statue, and what Kaidan has to say bout the relay statue. Talk to Avina too, in each of her locations. She has unique things to say about each area.
    -
    NOW 3 RANDOM FYI THINGS
    1. I love that you found this little secret moment between the humans: 33:10. You can only get that if you have Ashley and Kaidan in your squad, before you meet anyone else on your first visit to the Citadel. After that, it's lost. Unfortunately, you did loose the OTHER secret moment. You're not alone. The reason almost no one gets this secret on their first playthrough, is because we all replace the humans with the aliens immediately, and that's when they decide to put Samesh Bhatia in your path. If you have Ashley with you when you talk to him, there's some exclusive dialogue with her, because Bhatia's wife was part of the 212; the unit Ashley lost on Eden Prime before you met.
    2. Primary codex entries are the ones read to you. Secondary codex entries are the ones you read yourself, and go into EVEN MORE EXHAUSTIVE DETAIL about the lore of the world. In particular, look out for one that explains why everyone "speaks English".
    3. The reason everything is really expensive is because you get SO. MUCH. MONEY. in ME1 that the price of things soon becomes trivial.

Thank you so much for all of these tips, tricks & FYI's! I hope you're enjoying the play through so far & I can't wait to dive deeper into the storyline and lore of this game!

    Really enjoying watching you play!
I like to think of the Charm and Intimidate skills as Shepard reading an "Interactions with People for Dummies" book. She's got the theory down, but she's not going to develop any diplomacy, empathy and altruism (top and blue options) or belligerance, assertiveness and sarcasm (bottom and red options) unless she puts it into practice.
The dialogue mechanics are designed to reward those who commit to a majority path of one or the other (and this will sometimes be the only way to get a satisfactory conflict resolution) but if that's not your jam, play how you want to play and not how the game is leading you to play. The whole point is to have fun! You're in for a hell of a ride no matter what.

    • @avsbes98
      @avsbes98 Рік тому +1

To add to this: The morality-dialogue interaction is quite harsh in ME1, so you are essentially forced to stick to either paragon or renegade if you want to actually use the charm/intimidate interactions consistently. In ME2 that's a bit less harsh and in ME3 it's basically complete freedom as their score is added together to calculate "Reputation"

  • @brianwilson2789
    @brianwilson2789 Рік тому +8

You were shocked when Saren’s men attacked you in that corridor. One thing you will learn in this series is that you are never safe.
If you are not playing on Insanity levels, I wouldn’t worry about the squad makeup (biotic/tech/combat). Pick who you like. My main character was a male Infiltrator who had a crush on Ashley, so I picked her always. Wrex is hysterical, you can’t go wrong with him. I would load up his defensive abilities, your sniper and Ashley’s AR and you can survive most anything.
You probably don’t want to waste skill points on having two or three members having skills you only need one person to have (like decryption). Atleast at first. Plan out your most likely threesomes and who has which skills.
And yes, always buy those licenses. They don’t cost much and save you having to remember which vendor has what gear.

As a fan of the trilogy, I have to say this is my all time favorite game, it really was the game that takes
RPG genre on a whole new level. I’m so happy to see newcomers play it and watch your choices and reactions! So thank you for making the videos.
My tip for this is: Get through mass effect 1, if you enjoy it this much already, you’re in for a ride!! Definitely do side missions but don’t bother exploring planets or gathering materials just get through the story because the second game is even better. Increase charms and intimidate, it opens up a LOT of conversations and they are so WORTH it and that goes for all three games. Renegade and Paragon ❤️
You only need ONE squad mate (in your current party) to have decryption or electronics, I usually don’t invest in it myself since most of your squad can have either or. Don’t worry about “combat” skills. that’s you!! 😂 Actually utilizes your squadmates abilities like tell them to warp or throw or pull an enemy (or don’t and just go Rambo mode 😂)
I personally likes biotics skills a lot, and it takes a second playthrough for me to start utilizing it more. There’s really no “right” way to play the game but you’ll soon find out there are some moments where bringing certain squadmates to certain missions can trigger an additional cutscene/conversation. e.g. bringing wrex along to confront Fist will always result in Wrex killing him, so if you leave wrex then you can have the option to let fist go, or having ashley along while the guy requests his wife’s body back will trigger a comment from ashley. It’s pretty amazing, really. I absolutely adore the amount of work they put into this game even though some scenes will never be experienced is just…. awestruck. it really creates a personalized experience for everyone SINGLE person that plays this game. And your choices bleeds into the later games!! (even the sidequests!!!! Yes, come back and check in with Conrad 😂😅)
I look forward to more of your mass effect posts!! Take care and have fun!

The planetside driving around can be a bit boring and tedious, but the Mako has become a lot more manageable and it does contain stuff for side quests yeah. I'm loving the playthrough so far! Mass Effect is such a great series, and I can't wait for you to experience all it has to offer! Quick tip for Charm and Intimidation, rather than looking at them as what a commander would do, think of it as what your Shepard would want. Charm is for Merciful acts, while Intimidation usually leads to violent ones. Whenever the slots unlock, always dump your skill points into whatever path you want your Shepard to walk, whether it be Paragon or Renegade. Hope this helps!

1:17:27 Please feel free to select responses you want to say, not what you think the game wants you to say (or middle of the road responses). This series (all 3 games) rewards you in the long run for NOT choosing the middle of the road responses. It may be a simplistic system, but it is best to choose "aggressive" or "noble" responses, as those build up your Paragon or Renegade meters, which in turn give you access to more dialog options. Choosing middle of the road responses prevent access to these important dialog options.

    • @happyslapsgiving5421
      @happyslapsgiving5421 Рік тому +3

      Yeah.
      Priority #1: Charm or Intimidate.
Both are not necessary for gameplay reasons.
Do it only for roleplay reasons.
Like... if you really, *REALLY* need to play a very insecure person who's not fit for leadership.
Or someone who has a split personality disorder.
      Priority #2: Electronics & Decription.
      Not necessarily on Shepard.
Tali, Garrus and Alenko can, too.
If you only give those skills to one of them, you'll maximize your ability point usage, but you'll kinda be forced to bring that person along all the time.
Don't give it to both Shepard and the companions, though.
In my last run, engineer Shepard had it.
Before that one, Tali had it and I brought her along everywhere.
Priority #3: eventually, when you have the choice, Unity.

Choosing the top or bottom options will earn you Paragon or Renegade points (respectively), and will allow you to increase your Charm and Intimidate skills. These can be very helpful in later missions. No hard and fast rule, just something to bear in mind.

Did you know that the long elevator trips are actually disguised loading screens? The LE editon doesn't need the loading times anymore (better hardware after all), so they added a 'skip' button if you're not interested in the ads/banter and it will just skip the sequence.
Don't hold your breath for a patch from Bioware though. The game's from way back in 2007 and the Legendary Edition is merely an EA cash cow where they updated the graphics a bit. All the original bugs are still in the LE version, so Bioware won't release new patches for the game.
Most people who watch these playthroughs are people who've already played this game to death ;) Several of us can recite the dialogue _for_ you if you want to XD so you don't have to worry about the screen tearing making the dialogue text hard to read for us. Besides, it's also all voiced, so you shouldn't have to miss out if you pay attention to the voices. It would've been much worse if you as the gamer would experience the screen tearing imho.
You can return to Admiral Kohaku (Citadel Tower) later on to get a side-quest from him, so check in with him every now and then. Side-quests are often unlocked once you progress the story, so returning to them can be rewarding. And yes, that means you'll end up roaming the Citadel again.
At 20:03 you can talk to Avina to get information regarding the statue, if you care about the lore behind it. It'll help in understanding the species and their circumstances they made that statue of. It also helps in understanding Wrex better.
35:09 "I am a commander and you can't talk to your commander like that." I suppose you're not open to the romance options that Mass Effect offers to its players, then? ;)
1:05:00 You're right you've asked about those topics before, but keep in mind that people in different jobs or different environments do have their own experiences and opinions about the same topics. You won't miss crucial information about them, but sometimes it does give you different perspectives on them.
Since GaryBallard already spoiled the Fist reappearance (he has a tendency to spoil next to all his valuable advice), this is part of what gives ME a good replay value. There are so many decisions that have a different impact on the story in this trilogy, that you can play it ten times in a row and you still discover new things based on decisions. And yes, depending on your answers, you _can_ get a steamy outcome with Sha'ira. You just didn't choose that option.
You don't have to worry too much about the balance between biotic/tech/combat, because biotic and tech are merely _different ways_ to fight. Where a combat person shoots a gun, a biotic will use biotics to throw an enemy around to do damage. A tech will apply sabotage to enemy weapons or do other things. It's perfectly okay to have only combat with a little bit of tech or a little bit of biotic without getting into trouble. Having _only_ tech or only biotic will prove a bit more challenging in ME1 though, as you still need a bit of firepower.
Nirali Bhatia (the woman whose body wasn't released after her death) served on Eden Prime in the 212. Do you think Ashley knew her?
Perhaps this is a bit of backseating, but it could also be a good advice if you want. Most of the time the game doesn't _quite_ require you to buy anything as the loot on the battlefield is enough to get by. The further you go into the game, the better the loot becomes, so it kinda scales with the difficulty. The only time I buy things is when I have enough money for some of the Spectre gear. It will take a while before you have to worry about that, but as you don't spend too much money in stores you can save up pretty well.
2:02:31 It's intentional that they placed that ad there; it's making you think of how military propaganda works in an in-your-face kind of way. If you want to see how they did that in a movie, try watching _Starship Troopers_ , that's one huge satire of military propaganda, while still being a good sci-fi action movie.
2:10:00 "I didn't think this game would have side-quests". Girl, you're in for a ride. You will definitely spend more time doing side-quests than actual plot-quests in the ME trilogy. And if you're a bit of a completionist, you can do that times ten. You just wait 'till you're out of the Citadel.
2:26:00 If you listen to people (for instance outside at Sha'ira's, the conversation you interrupted when you scanned the Keeper) and talk to people, you'll realize that people actually confirm what Chorban says that they don't know anything about the Keepers. The Salarian complained to his companion that the Keepers repurposed his room five times and nobody knows why, but nobody stops them from doing it either.
Sha'ira's trinket is a bit of a key to a side quest. It'll come into play long after you've totally forgotten about it (and you can totally miss this quest since it's optional). You can't see it in your quests list or inventory because it would be a spoiler.

Going to Barla Von first makes Harkin irrelevant. Barla-Wrex-Garrus vs Harkin-Garrus-Wrex. Most playthroughs, I just skip Harkin entirely.
Once you switch characters in the squad screen, any placed points become permanent. The Undo button only removes points that you haven't confirmed yet. There's no way to reset your skill points in ME1, as players would happily cheese it to re-spec their characters for each situation.
Many first time players miss the cutscene on the Lower Wards. Unless you come out of that specific elevator at that specific point in the story, it's easy to miss the prompt - or it's no longer even there.
The aesthetic of Mass Effect is based on artist Sid Mead. He made a lot of science fiction architecture and environment conceptual artwork. His influence is most noticable on the design of the Citadel and the vehicles, and some fashion.
They chose Sid Mead as their primary influence because it's bright and clean, and very few sci-fi properties go that route. Most aim for something like Blade Runner, and Mass Effect has some of that, but Mead's inspiration is still the most prominent.
Ashley and Wrex both have health regeneration in their skill trees, but everyone else benefits from adding medical interface mods to their armors. Just having even Mk I is an improvement, so focus on buying the cheapest ones, and find stronger versions in loot. Outside of Spectre weapons, focus on _finding_ instead of _buying._ Most low-level inventory items are also more valuable as omnigel than selling at a store.

Home from work, so I can finally watch the second half of this episode....
Your squadmates are always more effective if you use the squad commands. You can pause the action by holding the power wheel or weapon wheel buttons, and reposition your squadmates the same way you target powers.
Put them behind cover, and they'll take advantage of it. Target a specific enemy, and they'll target it more efficiently than their random spray'n'pray. Pull them back to you if they get too far from you, so they don't get surrounded. The squad commands are really the heart of the combat in Mass Effect.
Almost every first time player makes the mistake of taking Wrex to Chora's Den. Fist actually does appear in ME2 _if_ he lives.
While all squadmates can chime in on conversations (also determined by who you add to your active squad first), many of the convos on the Citadel are designed with Ashley and Kaiden in mind, as it's the first time visiting for all three of you.
You also don't need to "balance" biotics, tech, and combat abilities anong your squad. Focus more on what abilities are needed in the field, such as decryption, electronics, and first aid. An Infiltrator or Engineer class Shepard already has decryption and electronics covered herself. Your squadmates also match the six classes: Ashley is a Soldier, Kaiden is a Sentinel, Garrus is an Infiltrator, Wrex is a Vanguard, Tali is an Engineer, and the last, undiscovered, squadmate is an Adept.
There are 21 keepers, and in the original release, you needed all 21. The problem was, one would disappear briefly between saving Tali and presenting her evidence to the Council, making people believe they couldn't finish the quest. The developers even added an inside joke about the elusive "keeper 20" in ME2, if you can find it. As for the last two... There's one more in the Lower Wards, next to another sidequest you haven't found... and there's a total of *four* in the Citadel Tower.
My own roleplay for Shepard's personality and interactions with NPCs is that questgivers, allies, and friends (in other words, those that can benefit me) are treated with respect, while generic enemies, like mercenaries, are treated with disdain.
The Council is much like the UN; they're not really in the position to get involved directly into _every_ incident in the galaxy, and they can't really do much _officially._ Such as sending a fleet into the Traverse to hunt for Saren; the independent governments in the region would view the arrival of a Citadel fleet as an invasion by the entire group of Council races.
Instead, the Council created the SPECial Tactics and REcon (SPECTRE) agents, who individually have the power to investigate and pursue suspects without incidentally starting a war. In other words, the Council's action to stop Saren is to send another Spectre - *_you_* - to hunt him down. And as a Spectre, you have full authority to apprehend Saren and disrupt his plans however you deem necessary.
The end area at the top of C-Sec Academy is ostensibly the Citadel Air Traffic Control, but it was originally going to be a combat simulation arena (it *is* C-Sec _Academy,_ after all), but they had to cut it for time constraints.
They added a DLC called Pinnacle Station later, that was a combat simulator with it's own side story. However, when it came to bringing Pinnacle Station into Legendary Edition, they discovered the original code for the DLC was corrupted. They were unable to recover it. Fortunately, there's another combat simulator in ME3, so it wasn't a serious issue. Pinnacle Station is the only one of more than 40 DLCs over the three games that didn't make it into Legendary Edition.
The trinket only comes up again if you find a use for it. There's no mission or assignment in the journal - you have to explore the galaxy to find it's home.
I found a video of Syd Mead's artwork here on UA-cam, so you can see just how much influence his work had on the franchise. Beautiful stuff:

1:21:31 It must have something to do with your hardware configuration. Your playthrough is the only one I have ever seen with screen tearing. I have played both the OG and Legendary Editions without that phenomenon happening. As for a patch, I wouldn't hold my breath. EA has Bioware working on DA4 and ME4. The chances are quite slim that Bioware will do anything about whatever the issue is. If you haven't already, you should try lowering your refresh rate on your monitor and engaging VSync in the game so your card, monitor and game should work seemlessly.

Heyhey, just found this playthrough and I'm enjoying it! For the screen tearing, Mass Effect 1 is unfortunately notorious for it and its in-game graphics options don't help. The only solution I've found for it is to completely turn V-Sync off in-game, then force it on through the Nvidia Control Panel (or the AMD counterpart). After I did that, I had 0 screen tearing for the rest of my playthroughs.

This is still slightly annoying but better in a way sigh lol

Krogans regenerate some health after being shot, so you need to shoot them a few more times.
Squad mates tend to favour weapons of their class, so soldier assault rifle, tech/biotics pistol or shotgun etc.
You can force them to use another weapon from the weapons wheel.
Also as you discovered you will need to babysit your squad sometimes, so direct them to cover and they are usually ok.

Hey! noticed youre a newbie to mass effect, still very green. Just wanted to give some words of advice without spoiling the journey
First things first, Id advise doing sidequests before main missions. Even the ones that are boring/tedious as they have an effect in the story of mass effect. You can do them offscreen if need be for efficiency.
Additionally...Some require high Paragon (Good & morally genuine)/Renegade(Evil, cruel, and Funny) Scores so like others said, raise paragon/renegade scores depending on which side you want to land on. Im almost always a paragon, but i mix Paragon and Renegade Speech Checks (The red and blue options) to be a Paragade.
Second, id also advise doing squadmates Personal missions. Especially for Garrus, Tali, Wrex, and the Asari you will discover later on. They are really Important to do, and form a bigger more important system in the sequel games.
Third, be sure to always check in with teammates and choose your squadmates carefully depending on the mission(s) its self. Some are more proficient in tech or battle or biotics and may play to your advantage or disadvantage.
Fourth...Understand that yes, the counsel sometimes may seem like jerks but they are a huge huge H U G E part of the story. Dont give into impaitence and play the long game of tolerating the counsel. Most Alien races such as Turians, Asari, Hanar, Elcor, Salarian, Batarians, already view humanity in a bad way. If you do anything to the counsel, i.e impulsively put them in harm... youd put humanity in a spotlight of being xenophobic and that wouldnt help humanity in-game.
Overall, youre doing good! Very good start to the game. Ask us Mass Effect fans questions about the game, lore, specific details, or things you arent clear on. We're quite a jovial community! Can wait to see the next episode!

I don't know that you've been super clear about whether you want spoilers, backseating, or hints, so if it gets to be too much, you might address it at the start of a future video. I'd be annoyed by it doing a blind playthrough, but you might find it helpful--in which case, nevermind!

It's possible! I did read a ton of reddit forums trying to pinpoint the issue and noticed most were people playing on PS or using a capture card (which I do for my 2 PC setup) that had this issue. I even contemplated downloading my OBS software onto my gaming computer & just using that.. I may have to do this for future ME videos bc I'm sure it's not pleasant and I work hard to give quality.. Hence why I run a 2 PC setup lol

When I adjust my volume on UA-cam so that your voice is the correct volume, the game audio is barely audible (so if I bump up the volume to be able to clearly hear the game content, then your commentary is a bit loud). Maybe find a way to balance them so they are about the same level?
