@siktrilogy23 I've done remote play on my phone with a controller like that and it works but it's definitely not comfortable. Having a actually dual sense controller with actual functionality and a bigger screen just makes it way more appealing. Plus you spend 100 bucks on a back bone, I don't see another 100 as a issue

I read an article from PlayStation Lifestyle today where Sony acknowledges that it’s strategy isn’t to make a profit but to increase playability for the PS5 for a specific demographic. The rhetoric was used and implied that there could be future updates for the device as well as potential for cloud gaming in the future. Since Sony seems focused on live service games and more gaming in general this seems like a logical strategy.

Like Trev I have my PS5 up at my work desk, so I don’t like to sit at the same desk longer than I have to, so this is a good idea. But anybody who already has a tablet can already do this for free.

I have my PS5 hooked up to a 55 inch OLED. However, i like the idea of playing my PS5 on a handheld screen whilst in bed. Tempted to get this just for that lol
thanks for checking all the random little scenarios beforehand (putting it in rest mode, using another controller etc.) really helps paint a more full picture

For those parents whose ps5 is on a shared tv that’s constantly playing paw patrol, this thing is a life saver. Personally I’ll use it as a bed side companion for when I’m not feeling my office setup.
They should’ve made a regular model (this) and a higher model that has Bluetooth capability, OLED screen and cellular capability. I wouldn’t pay a little more if it can do more At the end of the day, I went ahead and purchased this bc of the comfort. The tablet and backbone gameplay are inconvient and uncomfortable but that’s just me. There are plenty of folks that may disagree 🤷🏽♂️
I 100% want a portable stand alone PS5 console. If that was a thing that's something I would buy since it would be awesome to play either at my desk or on the go.
It has never been advertised as a portable Playstation 5, I really don’t understand why so many people got confused It is just a Dual Sense with a screen, and that’s fine Personally I love it, it just lacks an OLED screen
@@joebungus3447that is not necessarily true, it looks like you shouldn’t be bringing business up when you conclude small markets directly to revenue loss or failure.
I agree most people don't need it, but it is useful. I think it's more tailored towards homes where maybe the TV is shared, or people who travel. Wi-Fi that's decent isn't as hard to come by anymore in the primary markets.
Great to see a review that shows what this accessory is capable of. People need to understand it's not a new handheld console from Sony and it's not trying to be. Sure it might not fit your use case but it's certainly a good alternative for a lot of PS5 gamers. It solves a problem, just not yours!
Really neat design but honestly seems kinda pointless to me with it not being stand alone. My question would be can you multiplayer with someone using it and someone else just playing normally?
@@ltreanor99 Nah, it's a remote play device. It's something that's not for everyone but it's still dope. It's an accessory for your PS5 that lets you play it in other places aside from the room your PS5 in. Or if someone else wants to use the TV and you want to game at the same time. Has nothing to do with Sony wanting more money because you don't need to buy this to use Remote Play. It just makes the remote play experience even better. That's the point of an accessory.
No you can not use the portal and someone else play a different game on the same console. It’s just a remote play accessory. However I think future iterations are going to allow offline play and downloads but sony is using this to make money and gauge interest. At least I hope that’s what they’re doing but they haven’t been very consumer friendly this gen cycle.
Keypoint is that it's an accessory. It's definitely going to make more the. The headset and the VR Stuff. At the end of the day you can pass on it and it's not going to affect anyone.
Hoping to get this soon. As a new dad It would be easier to play and watch my kid at the same time. Also while the mrs watches her shows with the only tv in the house 😁😅
I see myself using the portal in the same room as my ps5, the TV on the weekends is occupied for when I want to watch NFL, college Football, basketball, etc.
Great idea but ill use the backbone and see where we are in the portable world in a few years. It would be dope if sony partnered with major phone carriers and provide a mobile network
I’ll stick with my backbone device on my phone. I could stream anything (even my Xbox) pretty much anywhere I could get cellular signal. Can even play games online lol
I work a rotation of 7/7 in the middle of nowhere on the ocean. We have starlink aboard our boat and this would be a game changer , no lugging around a huge ps5 ! Must have
If they just put the guts of a “vita 2” in this and sold it for $400 it would be a smash hit. Does the same as this but can play stand alone games too.
It would have to be able to DL and play PS5 games to compete which would knock it up to 500-600 and at that price id rather get a PS5 or a steam deck for the amount of games it has or just go with the cheaper switch. There's no place for it in the market, probably why they went with this.
400 literally show why Sony is not stupid to do it. 400? Seriously? This is 2023 not 2009 bro Considering how much rog ally cost and we have a troll here asking for psp in 2023 for 400😂😂😂😂
People said its sucks and pointless. But people often neglect the fact that this thing can be playable even on different wifi, so its basically a portable ps5, i mean you can find wifi literally everywhere nowadays
Just bought one brand new today for £150 of Facebook and booted it up as having got rid of Sky multiroom the wife was moaning about watching her programmes so after trying it it’s bloody great for me to chill in the same room and allow her to watch my tv while I game still and I had Helldivers 2 running with no lag from checking it against the PS5 itself.
As someone who works away alot I would use this because packing and moving it when I go away is a massive hassle. I stay in motels and they always have decent WiFi.
My friend has one of these, and tried it out, it was amazing. Looking to get it this holiday. Big like is if the TV is being used or on vacation with wifi and want to play ps5.
I work 12 miles away from home and I played my portal last night for a few hours 😂 on the job WiFi it was laggy but on my phone hotspot from Verizon it was perfect the entire time…I’m a nurse at a nursing home I work 16 hr shifts so when my residents are all comfortable & sleeping it’s game on 🤣
My portable gaming pc gets soo hot, this portal stays cold though. I wish I could play Rocket League on it but it's basically a single player game device which is a bummer
My ps5 upstairs in my game room and sometimes it takes you away from the family downstairs. So just to be in the same room with the family as they do what they do is all I ask for and this going to help. I’m happy with mines
Good honest review. Unlike the other vloggers that give this thing too much hype for nothing. I think if you already have a higher res display at home, this is not needed.
I think this is a very specific consumer. Like me as an upcoming dad and my wife likes to be in the same room with me and all. This will help out a lot. I do wish it was a stand alone console that would be even better especially it being for everyone and not a specific kind of person but with how smooth it runs and if you’re mainly gonna be at home…what’s the hurt. Obviously need good WiFi
I'm buying this. I'm a father and I work for a living. I have a 6 person family with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. None of my house is mine. I can hook up a ps5 in my dining room and take this handheld device to a quiet corner of the house and be a gamer maybe.
Do you have to be close to connect to ps5 from ps5 portal? Since my ps5 is in a different location and I’m in a different location will it be okay is it worth buying if I’m far away?
I don’t know how I feel about this, I have had the backbone for my iPhone for a year now and I love that thing. It’s awesome because with the remote play I can play from anywhere in the country when I’m traveling. I can use my phone service which for most part it’s always in the highest quality while streaming. It’s was also 100$, I the trade off is this has dual sense and the backbone doesn’t.
I love my portal because one. I don’t like to be so far from my screen and two, I don’t want to wear my glasses all the time. Because right now, I’m laying on my bed without wearing glasses and able to enjoy gaming
I got mines today. This is perfect for when I want to lay on my belly on my bed. Have back pain and get irritated sitting long periods playing in my desk

When your parents though is a stand alone system and bought you this without the actual PS5 system 😂
It works best when you’re at home and on the same wifi network, but once you leave your home it’s an entirely different experience.
Which for me personally defeats the purpose. It’s a mobile sized package that u would expect its strong suit would be for gaming outside of ur home 🤦🏾♂️
He was playing over a hotspot in the rain... If he was on WiFi it would have been different maybe .. don't disqualify something off of one test.
Wrong info, all you need is a strong wifi and it will wrk even on a different continent
Latency is a factor as well@@williamfist
I played mine off my phone 18miles from my ps5 and after a really long load up time it was flawless 😊
This thing should have a cellular network that would truly be next generation handheld
tmartin i would know ur voice 1000 miles aways . haha ur such friends friend❤ at heart . didnt even know i was clicking on one of ur video then i heard the pleasent voice we all love , btw u remind me of the spiderman in avengers :) 😊
For those parents whose ps5 is on a shared tv that’s constantly playing paw patrol, this thing is a life saver. Personally I’ll use it as a bed side companion for when I’m not feeling my office setup.
You can get a backbone for way cheaper this is a ripoff
@@slylevel193 I want the larger screen and dual sense feel. I don’t have a large smart phone. So it’s not a ripoff for me personally.
They should’ve made a regular model (this) and a higher model that has Bluetooth capability, OLED screen and cellular capability. I wouldn’t pay a little more if it can do more
At the end of the day, I went ahead and purchased this bc of the comfort.
This reminds me of the psp sooo much. The memories from the 2000s man 🥺😎
This reminds u of the psp??wth lol
It’s still the 2000’s 😂
@@kellyd1910 yes bro its just an evolution of psp with less use psp was way more usefull than this
@@patrickhenderson216actually it’s the 2020’s not 2000’s. But technically it’s is the 21st century, aka y2k
Except this is an accessory and not a console
This brings back memories when i had a PSP in middle school. I thought I was the coolest person when i had it 😂
It has never been advertised as a portable Playstation 5, I really don’t understand why so many people got confused
It is just a Dual Sense with a screen, and that’s fine
Personally I love it, it just lacks an OLED screen
I genuinely believe this this is going to break records as the most returned game devise of all time.
Its a glorified ps remote play. Be serious.
Bro it’s fine. It’s a good device for a small market
@@trombonekingdomsmall market equal’s failure😂, do you know anything about business?
It says right on the box and in the description of web pages that a PS5 is required and wifi if you can’t read that’s on you.
@@joebungus3447that is not necessarily true, it looks like you shouldn’t be bringing business up when you conclude small markets directly to revenue loss or failure.
Ngl I would have wanted a new Advanced PSP with the new tech we have today 💯.
Me too I hope this builds towards that!
I was waiting for your review bro! Love your vids❤
It's for people with a family so as your family uses the tvs you can still play your games.
Thanks for the review. Got to say you playing the portal in the rain... wow, dying inside :)
It's basically a controller which is ridiculous haha nothing new with Sony wanting more money for no reason at all
@@ltreanor99 Nah, it's a remote play device.
@@findvolumeI’m glad someone understands
No you can not use the portal and someone else play a different game on the same console. It’s just a remote play accessory. However I think future iterations are going to allow offline play and downloads but sony is using this to make money and gauge interest. At least I hope that’s what they’re doing but they haven’t been very consumer friendly this gen cycle.
Keypoint is that it's an accessory. It's definitely going to make more the. The headset and the VR Stuff. At the end of the day you can pass on it and it's not going to affect anyone.
Will never forget my dad waking me up with a brand new psp next to my pillow in the early 2010s, good ol days
Hoping to get this soon. As a new dad It would be easier to play and watch my kid at the same time. Also while the mrs watches her shows with the only tv in the house 😁😅
The only issue with this is if your wifi isn’t the best then this portal is pretty much useless.
Yeah exactly i would say that is the main issue with a device like this
It works on any Internet that runs above 50mbs
@@robertoolivares9241I can only do 30MBS😢
@@robertoolivares9241Download.
What about non wifi games
I see myself using the portal in the same room as my ps5, the TV on the weekends is occupied for when I want to watch NFL, college Football, basketball, etc.
Definitely a good use for it!
Such a beautiful home 😊
It also make sense for me. When my wife is using the main TV I can play in the room. It totally works for me.
Damn cuh flexing his crazy house and taking the ps portal outside in the rain 😅🥲😂 I’m tryna be like you sir!! 🫡
This is just like using the ps remote app 😂
I love mine. I played MW3 and RoboCop and was impressed
Were you able to successfully play MW3 online multiplayer?
@@dew2721 yea it works fine, a slight delay from 120 hz on a tv to 60 but still fun
Great idea but ill use the backbone and see where we are in the portable world in a few years. It would be dope if sony partnered with major phone carriers and provide a mobile network
They did that with the Vita.
Must have
This is actually mad sick
If they just put the guts of a “vita 2” in this and sold it for $400 it would be a smash hit. Does the same as this but can play stand alone games too.
It would have to be able to DL and play PS5 games to compete which would knock it up to 500-600 and at that price id rather get a PS5 or a steam deck for the amount of games it has or just go with the cheaper switch. There's no place for it in the market, probably why they went with this.
@@Kurry34idk man. I’ve seen many people complain at a lack of AAA games from Nintendo and I think a PS4 equivalent handheld would be a win for Sony.
400 literally show why Sony is not stupid to do it. 400? Seriously? This is 2023 not 2009 bro
Considering how much rog ally cost and we have a troll here asking for psp in 2023 for 400😂😂😂😂
@@mr_red13I agree there are many people in the world who would love a next gen Sony portable
When he said, I'm outside in my front yard and showed it😮
Imagine seeing this on a thrift shop shelf in 30 years.
People said its sucks and pointless. But people often neglect the fact that this thing can be playable even on different wifi, so its basically a portable ps5, i mean you can find wifi literally everywhere nowadays
😅 I swear you explain that much good I was feeling like i was in classroom , you the best
I can’t wait for mine to get here! This is clutch with a newborn. 2k from the toilet! Let’s gooo
I can see Hand held Consoles gaming systems taking over in the future it’s gonna be lots of options
We need a video on all the cars, it’s been such a long time since I saw your collection or an update
I try it on a different location with wi fi 10 miles away from home and it worked just fine
I really like this
I'm buying this.
Well if they did it properly and not depend on the Internet and kept it simple then you'd use it for travelling not in your home
I didn't know you'd be able to play it still while on another wifi source. Definitely might pick one up
I will be stoked if i can just play in the lounge room. It's a yes for me.
This is perfect for people who smoke outside and still wanna play the game like me in and out every 30 minutes
That's the thing, I'm a truck driver and I love this PS Portable
Do you have many issues connecting on the road I can get one pretty cheap but as I travel a bit and IV read people saying they have trouble connecting outside the house I really want one but this is putting me off.
well, after the update, it fot worse out of my house. In the house it's GREAT, but on the road, it's not. Unfortunately
@@omardejesus8198 yeah that's what I was worried about I suppose I might still get it just for when family want TV on a plus rumour has it Sony is now wanting to do a proper portable hand held hopefully they do it.
Pretty simple, this is for someone who travels and have access to great internet when travelling, or, for someone who plays lots of games at home in bed or in different rooms other than where their console is. That’s it.
The question I am asking is can we play on a strong wifi connection if you are on vacation?
It's a cool concept but there can be a considerable input lag even with high speed internet connectivity, especially for demanding or intensive games
It legit looks like those future console designs from 2009.
Where’s the option button on this? Trying to change suits on the portal is hard lol
Looking at getting one now my gaming room is a newborn babies bedroom. Can’t watch the little one and game so hoping this bad boy will help me loads
Thanks for the review had been wondering about these since first heard about them 👍
Excellent review. I agree with everything you said. And I do hope they convert it into a standalone system. But we shall see
I just got mines so I’m excited to try it out
This is perfect for me cause I'm in different cities a lot and I don't want to bring my ps5 to every hotel I stay 🙏🏽
Right now I have a backbone which is fantastic but this looks really good. Only difference is connecting to the internet since the backbone is connected to my phone.
Just returned mine. It is awesome but it’s very limited very
