You will need a PS5 and Wi-Fi to use this device to play PlayStation 5 games. Connection issues may occur during remote play. But when it works, it kinda just works.

Ok Sony, we know you are secretly listening. Look, this device is a promising start to get back to handhelds. I really do like the thumbsticks and ergonomics. Keep those but please expand on the other aspects - specifically the usability aspect. If you could kindly release a portable console with 120Hz OLED display that can run PS5 or even just PS4 level games natively (PSP 2). That would be very much appreciated.
PS. You can charge a bit more than $200, it's ok.
Yes omg a new psp sounds amazing I miss the lil discs honestly but they probably won’t have it with disc ;)
Yes, handhelds are in season.
@TheRelaxingEnd yes I buy for $200.00 dollars for my Christmas present ❤

NEW PSP WE NEED IT!
People forget, but we had this tech 10 years ago. It was called the PS VITA. The PS VITA had its own library of games AND could connect to your ps4 to remote play, PLUS front and rear cameras, front and rear touchscreens, the ability to see other players that were close to you, could record video, watch movies, play music, and was available with a plethora of accessories. The world decided it wasnt good enough, Sony abandoned it, and now everyone is freaking out about a piece of hardware that cant even run by itself. These are some sad times we live in.
Gaming tech hitting a ceiling in terms of usability. But I agree it makes no sense to think this device is awesome and innovative.
Except that the PS VITA was its own handheld and didn't need a PS4 to work. This literally needs a ps5 to work
What killed the PS Vita was the lack of 3rd party games and the proprietary memory cards that were ridiculously overpriced. Most of the games looked like they were made for the PSP rather than the PS Vita.
Vita was an actual console. Portal is just a screen that requires a PS5.
Totally agree
This would be an amazing console if Sony made it an independent device
It’s an accessory to the console. Sony doesn’t want to force their studios to develop handheld games like they had to with the Vita
@@proggz39we know. But it can be use for PS Now streaming without PS5. If Sony desire of course. Right now it can't and thats a shame.

If this ran games off a wifi signal and didn't require a PS5, it would actually be worth something. But £200 for a controller and screen bundle? Hard pass.
Agree. The fact that he said is like the wii u I even feel that is an insult to that console lol, cause at least came all together. For this , you first have to spend 500 for the actual console and then 200 for this... thing. I'm not gonna even call it console or handheld.
it uses wifi 5 not even wifi 6 or even 6E, it will lag like hell if you have multiple wifi 5 devices connected to your router in home.
200$ for own system to run games like ps5. Sure lol. For 200$ you can get switch and run shiitty indie games
I spent 200 on a dualsense edge and that’s basically just a controller 💀💀
It would still be useless. The whole point of handhelds is to take them anywhere, regardless of Wi-Fi being a thing or not.
Fun fact: Port forwarding improved my experience dramatically when using the device on a network separate from my console. The reality of it is that your internet settings matter with this. If you aren't able to manage those settings, your experience will vary greatly from what I've experienced and seen from others.
i purchased one. only reason why i got it was to play in bed after work since i work late night shifts. so sitting at my desk and gaming after work can feel like such a commitment, and is honestly just tiring. just would be nice to be cozy in bed and play some FF7R, GOW Ragnarok, or any other single player game to relax.

I wish I had such luxuries like you, man I can't even afford a decent phone forget about Ps5 or portable
Watching this satisfying video, I just discovered that you can scroll down to comments while in full-screen mode.
I remember being able to do this with the psp and the PS3 back in the day
But different is that the PSP is portable, small and has his own games this is without wifi just a brick.
You can do this with a ps vita and ps5
it's interesting. but i would've preferred a stand-alone portable console rather then an accessory.
Like Nintendo?
And pay $400+. No you wouldnt😂 you would just complain so more

I'm so glad this channel has adapted over the years. Absolute legend.
The best part of this is that it has a flight mode as if I am going to take my PS5 and router on a flight and then for some reason use this remote play to play my games
Please explain to everyone what you think “flight mode” does I hope you don’t think it allows you to play on a flight
@@Thabzzz no dummy. Flight mode is made to stop your device being used on a flight which is useless in this as you CANNOT use this in a flight in the first place.
@@hexagonshorts2186you actually can if you have good internet i tried and it works
I think as long as you have wifi and your ps5 is in rest mode you can use it wherever.
Thank you for all those amazing years!. I came back to watch your vids after like 5 years later.
Best unboxing channel on all of youtube. Love the touch by using Spider Man gloves at the PS5 unboxing.
I like the initial music , PlayStation ambient music is awesome 👏
That outro is bliss
I’ve been waiting for your video on this
Hooked a lan wire and the thing runs real smooth now
Is this possible? 🤔
But it matters the wiffi signal on the portal? i mean, if the ps5 its LAN wired with 250+ mbs and im at the office in other place with different wifi but let say only 20 mbs to the portal (5ghz), in this scenario will be a input lag?
there is still latency with ethernet cable wired to your ps5.
it still has issues despite if your PS5 is hook wired into the router cause you still got to worry about latency and if the Wifi channel is congested with other devices plus due to having no web browser you cant use public wifi since most places you got agree to there terms of services threw there website which you cant do.
why not just play it in the ps5
It's just a screen attached between 2 sides of controller with battery, speakers and wi-fi connector just to go for remote play. You can't actually compare with other devices with processor such as you do on video with NS, Ally and steam deck.
love your work
Best channel to see an unboxing glad you did it.
Yo ur vids always make my day with new things that I never seen before much love ❤
I’m really loving mine. Got it at launch and have been playing it nonstop. I’ve never played my PS5 this much in a long time. Definitely not for competitive games but for story games like Spider-Man 2, its great.
I nearly laughed watching him wearing Spiderman gloves for opening of Spiderman man theme based PS5 😂
Dude how are these videos so satisfying, this guy has a +10 bonus on Dexterity rolls
Looks kinda cool ngl
So many people talking crap about this handheld yet it’s sold out everywhere. for $200 this is a good handheld that you can take anywhere that has decent wifi to play your PS5 games. It’s an awesome device.
I liked this review video, It's always amazing to watch your videos!!
Shall I tell you again? The legend is back❤❤
It seems like a good idea PlayStation portal but even if you have a good connection, there is always input lag, before getting it I hope they make some updates to reduce it to a minimum or that they make another version to play without wi fi
they cant make a wifi streaming console without wifi. unless they made a new psp
the input lag is nothing it has barely any lag at all do research
Plus who would use this for comp play? single plyer games its sick for
@@zmangormzbut they could have made it stream directly from the console which they purposely did not do. Instead needing a decent router and optimal WAN. The Wii U, faults and all, streamed directly from the console and that was 10 years ago now.
I can only imagine how bad a name these things will get if Sony doesn’t change course in the future. I wonder if that’s even an option.
I got one its smooth trust me i just got
My ps5 connect with lancable and there is no lag smooth i am smashing warzone like all ways 😅
I might buy one of these myself! Really cool!
Bro that is cool I need that in Christmas
I love the ui music and elements. Obviously most wanted a native handheld, but this is an interesting piece of kit for those who have a use for it. I wouldn’t say its a next gen Wii U, because that console used asymmetric gameplay on each screen most of the time but things like Off TV Play do kinda see a revival here, and I’m happy to see that.
It definitely does harken to the Off TV Play of the Wii U but I think if the connection is stable enough it could also be used as a way to play your ps5 in another room. For example, if your PS5 was setup in a living room but you wanted to play in your bedroom it could work well for that. Otherwise I kinda think at this price point It's too much when you could spend 100-150 for something like a steam deck or switch that can actually play games instead of just being a phone that can only play PS remote play. 💀
@@AJMegaScizoroh certainly, but you’ll definitely need 5Ghz internet. Fortunately, I have it, but I’m not sure about how providers other than Spectrum handle 5GHz internet access.
O design incrivel, mas ainda prefiro o steam deck pelas diversas possibilidades que ele entrega
Um abraço do Brasil amigo
I own it and although lve had questionable experiences with it, after owning one now i feel like i need it. When it works, it works flawlessly. Wifi plays the biggest factor.
I love the accent lighting on the hand held. They should do a update and make all the controllers look like that
According to him, the joystick on the handheld is slightly smaller than the normal PS5 joystick. But in 5:46 when he compare it, all I see the size is the same.
Nah I can see it the handheld joystick is ever so slightly smaller
My guy needs glasses or needs to put his 60 pfs on to see it 😂
They are definitely smaller
I have it - while it may technically not be that much smaller, initially it feels like a joystick for ants.
Can someone tell me is there a difference between knife, dagger, sword and saber???
Can someone explain it to me in details please??? Because it's hard for me to differentiate all of them 😁
I have this thing and I freaking love it. It lets me play my PS5 anywhere in the house without lugging the console and monitor everywhere.
I mean, sure, most people have their console/monitor/tv already set up wherever they use it the most…but what if you want to play in bed, or on the couch, or in the dining room, or in the basement, or on the porch? Just grab this bad boy and you’re off to the races. I love it.
😂😂😂😂
I broke mine
While I was drunk on the porch
Good 4 you. I wouldn’t burn money like that but hey if it makes you happy, go for it.
Or u can buy for cheap controller for ur phone..
literally the ad of the play station portal was in my ps5. i really wanted it
Awesome preview!👍👍
I have the portal too just yesterday and tried to play with it.
One of the main issues is the delay. I tried playing Street Fighter 6 first to test the input lag and I will say it's not recommended for fighting games. So what I tried next is Call of Duty and same with SF6 you can feel the delay which is not good. FPS games are not advisable to play here.
Next I tried playing Alan Wake 2 and I would say it's good with some noticeable delay. I also tried playing Astro's playroom to check the dual sense and it's working well.
The last game I tried is Outlast 2 and it's not also recommended.
By the way I have 500mbps/45upspeed wifi.
For the battery it took at least 5 hours on my end.
In my honest opinion the portal is very fragile too so be careful with it.
In my conclusion this device is only good for some story/linear/adventure games that don't require too much attention on FPS.
Games like fighting games and First person shooter games are not recommended.
Try lowering the channel width in your router settings. In addition to separating the 2.4 and 5 GHz access points. As well as disconnecting the HDMI cable on the PS5.
@@mmstick thanks mate. I'll try it later 👌
id say if you want handheld system just get stand alone, i believe PS3 had same device and it had issues too, its not reliable
@@mmstickimagine doing all this shit to play a ps5 on a tiny screen instead of the fucking tv
@@ThabzzzImagine sitting in front of a TV all day instead of sitting back with your wife on a sofa or in bed, and carrying it around with you while your wife watches TV.
An 8" screen close to your face can be larger than a 65" TV depending on how close you are sitting to the TV, or how close you are holding the handheld to your face. It's not the physical size that matters, but your viewing distance. The Portal held within a hand's length from my face is already larger than my TV.
Imagine all the parents this Christmas that are going to buy this for their kids that won't realize you also need the PS5. Going to be a lot of disappointed kids this year.
This reminds me a lot of the Wii U screen mechanic😮
I hope you get a Alan Wake 2 deluxe edition for unboxing. I'm a big fan of your videos.
If this thing was a standalone handheld game, it would be fantastic! This thing is pretty much a Wii U Game Pad for PS5, with the major benefit is being able to play without the TV.
However, I hope Nintendo take some notes of this for the next version of Switch: A big 1080p LCD screen, bigger buttons, analog triggers, a kick stand that allow the charging cable to be connected, an actual d-pad on the left joy-con...
Bro I'm sorry to say this, but Nintendo may be a *bit* too busy to read your comment.
They're too busy making millions off the console they have without your suggestions
They already got the oled
my only wish is to have native 4k and ultrawide support
I realize this isn't for everyone but I got one and I really love it.
When the connection works it can be great for certain situations.
I think its more about a logical purchase. Why would you get this turd for 300$ when you can get a steam deck for 400$ 😂😂

Best design among all the handheld devices, and the most useless pricy device in this year. Who is crazy enough to spend 200$ for controller with display and high input lag?
Input lag depends entirely on your setup. I haven't any noticeable lag in intense shooters from my end. Been playing through Lords of the Fallen as well, which requires precise timing for parrying.
Good setup means nothing when the country you are in have shit internet provider
@@jigglypuff5480But your Internet service provider doesn't matter. Only your home's LAN and WiFi setup. You could comfortably use it without an Internet service at all.

I have 500Mbs internet and high speed 5g covering most of the city. You are right it depends on the speed but i tried playing pa5 remote play on high speed internet and yet there is annoying input lag unless you are setting just by the router then you may get rid of input lag. But why would i buy handheld device when i am going to set in the same room tog get the full experience?
aka wide controller with screen on it
I love your vídeo review, thanks.
10:51 yeah it’s like a 1 sec delay between tv and handheld
That’s a great device, it’s just too expensive for what it offers, only a remote play experience
With future updates the portal will be awesome
Nah
finally.. im waiting to see this.. tq host😊
this so good bro
There are a couple of ways this thing could have been saved but they took the route that I'm sure nobody was expecting...
I would have prefered this thing be a device similar to the Wii U where you could be playing a game like Fortnite and have the map and inventory appear on the bottom screen. The Wii U was a super nice console that honestly was ahead of its time. I really hope we don't give up on the 2 screen gaming future since it was such a comfortable controller with genuinely useful gimicks when used properly.
Having to settle with a Wii U for most of my childhood while watching all my peers get Xbox Ones and PS4’s, I really learned how to appreciate that console and all its interesting gimmicks. I totally agree with you, I think they should’ve went all in with the Wii U route. The fact that so many features of the PS5 requires WiFi, on top of so many AAA titles requiring WiFi just to be able to play- sometimes for unneseccary reasons- having this thing rely on WiFi is just too much. I might as well melt my router with a blowtorch.
@@gingeralebean5375 basicly, if you have a pc, ps's and xboxes are kinda redundant, nintendo consoles are better off playing exclusives(ie mario games, pokemon ,xenoblade etc)
It would be cool if Sony crammed an entire PS5-level performance console into the size of something like this. Even if it was the same price as a regular PS5 it would be very compelling
i feel like that it would be to much for the system to handle
They would have made that if they could or if it was possible from an engineering perspective. It would probably cost triple what a ps5 costs if they pulled it off. Portable devices will always be a bit behind full fledged consoles and PCs.
You should try outside the house and it can work but only for ps portal to have different Wi-Fi like using phone hotspots or any internet device
Relaxing end, ainda estou esperando vc fazer o inbox playstation 5 slin. Go man.
Honestly I go both ways their are some flaws but it’s overall a decent product and very underrated
Really Good for someome want to go travel or working office want to rest playing games with ps portal.really awesome .i like it 10/10 my score
I think some delay is because of the 120 hz monitor and the portal is 60hz and plus ther will be always some delay in this type of connection if your not actually LAN
Its actually useful if you have a family like me fighting over TV😂😂😂😂
It would’ve been really good if they gave the option to stream directly from the console when you’re near it, using a proprietary technology without wifi like the Wii U did. That way the latency would be next to zero. Instead Sony went out of their way to make a proprietary “PS link” technology for their ps earbuds and removed Bluetooth from the portal 🤣🤣.
Very usefull for airplanes while travelling, will buy 2
I may invest in one of these.
So a Wii U ? But PlayStation

This is basically the "Stadia". What we want from Sony is the successor to PS Vita.
you know that service that comes out too late than everyone else and cost their users the full price
This is clearly based in a Wii U Gamepad, I wonder why people would ever think it's a bad idea. 🤔
Good handheld console many people will hate on it and find it pointless but i have a feeling that is could be somewhat useful in the future. Personally I found it a bit pointless because even if I had a PS5 not everyone has a stable network connection and that could be a problem for me but as we are living in 2023 I think so in a few years this won't be a problem at all. My recommendation is that they add a feature where you could do cloud gaming on it without actually owning a PS5. I also hope that they make a handheld that runs by it self, offline anywhere with a good battery life and all named the PS Vita 2, hope you all have a great day.
Yeah, Sony's betting in 1-2 years time the reach and bandwidth of broadband and mobile networks can maintain a consistent .1s lag threshold. Trying to ride the wave before it comes, i guess.
Agree for next gen PSP/VITA
I got the portal on day one and pretty satisfied since then.
The fact that you can play ps5 games on this good looking display and having the power of the dual sense controller as well where ever you want in your home is the thing that I was looking for.
I already tried backbone with my Iphone for remote play but you know the elephant in the room: “very small display :)))”
All in all I think that for the price point it really worth it.
Quick reminder: dual sense edge is 199$ and this one is also 199$ :)))
Well I ain’t sure if the edge is bestselling.
basically you just wasted $199 on a thing that you could do on your phone
Quick reminder they are both a waste of money, with a couple more bucks you can buy a real portable console who can also stream games and video from the net.
