  • Hey UA-cam and welcome back to my channel Sanj Designs where I'm building a 6 car SMART garage. Hope you've enjoyed the videos so far. Work on the build is progressing really well and now the plaster is dry its time to paint.
In this video I'm testing and and providing an honest review of the Wagner 250M HEA Sprayer. I chose this method over using a roller and brush because the reviews on UA-cam show it to be an easier and better experience. Whilst the spraying was pretty easy and straight forward and quicker, the whole masking experience was not as easy as you think and took a lot longer than expected.
That said the finish was really good and the garage is really beginning to turn into my dream.

Experienced sprayer here 🤣 the tape issues is a mixture of the cold weather on the freshly applied main coat on the walls. There’s so many brands of tape but frog tape yellow (for delicate surfaces) works all year round on painted surfaces whatever the temperature, it’s expensive but works every time and saves time. Other option is to warm the room up. Also when spraying a ceiling always change direction each coat 😉 very good job if that’s your first pop spraying

Great advice thank you 👍 had a feeling it was the cold and humidity. Don’t regret buying the sprayer - but masking was a bigger pain than expected…much like life it’s one big learning curve.

@@sanjdesigns Green frog tape for hard surfaces, yellow for painted, create your line with the frog tape, use the cheaper tape/ pre taped film or paper for the coverings, plenty of cheap film/ paper rolls about and they stick to the frog tape nicely. Have fun with sprayer

It’s the tape… that blue sticks better to itself than anything else. 3M 2097 or Shuretape DS154 is way to go. Thx for this review and info! Lights look awesome! You have designer in your blood!

Thank you mate that's really kind and glad the review was helpful. Don't know if I have designer in my blood, but being an engineer like to solve problems and be creative.
Regarding the tape - yes others have said exactly the same. Never had a problem with 3M blue tape before, but maybe because it was too cold or too humid. Will look into your suggestions next time.
If you haven't already check out my latest video ua-cam.com/video/FrANsqglZIQ/v-deo.html where I showed the garage build from start to finish. Thanks again

Thank you for nice and clear explanation !! 👏👏. Questiion: if I have to spray in the morning and in the evening few days ,, like painting furniture in workshop. it still should be cleaned each time or I could put the gun in buket of water ? Thank you very much

Hi there, and thanks for your kind comments. Reference cleaning the sprayer each time, I personally wouldn't leave it for more than 3-4 hours as the paint can dry in the pipework and sprayer which can cause problems. Make sure you drop the pressure before leaving it in the bucket of water. It is a pain to have to keep cleaning the sprayer, but it will save a lot of time and money in the long run. Hope that helps.

Thoughts on masking. I mask the blue tape first then the taped dropped sheet with additional blue tape tabs at around 300 centres. No problems!

Thank you mate and a really good point. I actually did try your method (but didn't show it on the video) still had a problem with the tape coming off. I think because it was the middle of winter and it was quite humid in there (the garage doors were masked up so couldn't open them, plus the mist coat just adds more moisture). That said, a little bit of a touch up here and there was fine and happy with the finish. Check out the hexagrid lights video (Part 23) and you'll see the finish. Thanks!

Here's a tip to prevent bleeding with cheaper tape. In your case; You could've used the cheap (sensitive) tape with the masking sheet. Spray over it with white paint to seal it off. Once it dries, spray the ceiling in the desired color. Once done remove and you'll have the sharpest line you'll ever see. Works every time.

Thanks for the advice mate…makes perfect sense to me 👍 Will try that next time.

Hand you don't any 2 pack paints in this machine?
Just got a 250m for painting shipping containers, and primer red oxide then 2pack grey on top.

As long as the paint is waterbased you should be fine. Oil and solvent based paints will work but it's the cleaning process that you need to be conscious of. If you use solvent or oil based you will need to clean/purge with solvent/spirit and you will use a lot to clean the machine properly. With waterbased you can use as much water as you need no problem. Hope that helps.

How many liters of paint did you use per coat?

    • @sanjdesigns
      @sanjdesigns  Рік тому +1

Hi Carston thanks for getting in touch. If I remember, the first mist coat (ceiling and walls) was around 40litres (but please bear in mind this was watered down with 30% water). The topcoat for the walls in white was around 25 litres and the ceiling was around 30 litres. General rule of thumb, the better quality the paint the less coats you're going to need. Always spend a bit extra on Trade paint rather than the DIY stuff. Hope that helps.

I've got the 250m sprayer mate .. the no nonsense bare plaster paint from Screwfix just goes straight on, no need to dilute .. in fact it's so good we left that on as the finish. I used frog tape to mask out and it's good stuff.. the green one . I would have masked the edges with that first and then stuck the sheet to the top of it, rather than keeping the sheet an inch from the top... That's probably why it all started to peel.. frog tape would not peel

Thanks John appreciate your feedback. Used the frog tape before, but blue 3M Tape never let me down in the past when painting the inside of the house - so not sure if it was too cold or paint was still a bit damp. After a while i did what you suggested and laid the tape and then the sheet on top, helped a bit but not perfect. Don't regret buying the sprayer as it did save time and less energy, its just not as straightforward as I thought it would be with respect to masking. But much like life....its one big learning curve.
I'll be using the sprayer on the exterior so stay tuned for that one!

@@sanjdesigns yeah I bought it to do my whole downstairs , built a TV feature wall so just sprayed the whole place , bare plaster ceilings and walls with the machine and then used the frog tape to tape out the feature wall and just rollered it on and it came out great.. really nice edges with no bleeding.. I just sprayed my old kitchen cabinets as I'm putting them into the garage .. think I need to use the finer 315 tip... The 510 just lashes too much paint at it and I got runs ... All a learning curve mate... I've got a big dance and sheds etc to do next ... No matter how long it takes to mask it's still far less time than roller and brush

This was an out of the box review and I did use the widest tip available. Already invested in the extension so wasn't planning on buying any more tips or nozzles.
