    Setting the correct pressure for spraying with a Wagner paint sprayer. Wagner paint sprayer cleaning..
    An issue raised frequently on the PaintHQ channel, is those purchasing a Wagner Control Pro Airless Paint Sprayer, wanting to swap out the Control Pro HEA gun or use a professional airless hose.. this video will demonstrate that this is not possible.. for safety reasons the Control Pro series of sprayers can only use their own proprietary fittings.. however the 7/8” tip guard thread is standard, so professional 7/8” fittings and accessories such as gun extensions can be used.. this will also be demonstrated in the video..
    Wagner HEA ProTip and Fine Finish tips require the Wagner Professional TradeTip 3 Tip Guard.. Wagner Control Pro Spray Tips only fit the proprietary Control Pro Tip Guard.
    Also, airless spray gun filters explained. Plus spraying with a Wagner Control Pro 311 and Wagner Professional Fine Finish 208 tip.. is there a difference?

    Very useful video thank you.
    When cleaning up, I found it's more efficient to put the return hose back into the waste bucket for a few seconds each time you change to clean water; then pop it back in the clean water to circulate. It chases the dirtier water through so you don't have to change the water as often

      I have got the 250r and I have put at least 700 litres through it and it still sprays fine I use it most days never had any major issues with it at all the best advice I can give is make sure you take the suction tube off and put some piston lube in it turn it upside down first obviously do this every single time you use it and you will have no problems at all plus I find the tips that come with the unit are not much good at all they only take about 40 litres though them then bin it the wagner trade tips are far far better they don't spit and last a lot longer

    Excellent content as always. I love my 350M Pro for doing walls, ceilings and woodwork (I’m a general builder) on my projects. I refining knowledge as much as I can about spraying and videos like yours really help. I had no idea about the trade guards and tips. What size tip would you recommend for 165mm skirting so it covers in one sweep. I’ve currently got a 311. I use 517 for walls and ceilings and last year I used a 619 for a long brick wall, damn that’s got some fan width, lol. Thanks again.

      Hey Freddie, appreciate the support.. sounds like you’re doing great my friend and have really embraced spraying.. yeah the ‘pro’ setup with the TradeTip 3 Tip Guard and HEA ProTip / Fine Finish tips could serve you a lot better 👍 ..if you’ve been used to using a Control Pro 311, I’d use the ProTip Fine Finish 310 (Purple tip).. they’ll be a little less flow, so if you’ve had a problem at all with paint runs, it could help that.. you could even use less paint 👍 ..the 310 will give you a 6” fan, but I’d still look to coat a skirting in 2 passes.. one along the front, and a quicker pass over the top, with the gun angled to direct paint on the top edge.. if you’re used to one pass, adjust your technique by moving quicker with a 2nd pass.. you don’t want a run.. although a 310 will let out less paint Vs a 311 👍 ..Hope this helps buddy, links are in the video description for the tip guard and tips.. keep in touch and let me know how you get on 🙏 regards Pete

    Hi Pete, can you help please? I have the Wagner 150M. I used it to spray my kitchen cabinets with the 311 tip and the result came out quite well. I now want to spray my wooden staircase spindles and handrail.(the spindles a 40mm x 40mm thick) I will be using a water based paint, satin finish. Although I can’t control the pressure, can I use any of the ‘smaller’ tips with this model? Or which tip would you advise that might work the best? Might the 211 work or would there still be too much overspray? The tips a quite expensive here so just wanted to ask before I go out and buy something else that won’t be suitable and want to try use the sprayer since I’ve already spent the money on that too! 😅

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you Gareth, appreciate the feedback.. at one time HVLP (along with AAA), was probably the only way to get a true fine finish.. with the advancement of fine finish and low pressure tips, using airless for cabinetry refinishing is very much possible and widely considered first choice in the refinishing world.. airless spraying is fast and you’ll use more material, whereas with HVLP you’ll have more control and use much less.. a hopper and smaller hose helps to get up and running to spray airless with less paint.. hope this helps my friend.. regards Pete

Couple of quick questions though, do I need to water down paints? And can you put gloss through it? And if so, do thinners need to be used to wash through after?

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Рік тому +1

      Hey Matt, great news.. I’m happy to help and advise if I can my friend.. airless is pretty straight forward to setup, you don’t typically need to thin, with the right choice of tip and setting the correct pressure.. my tip is, look to spray at the lowest possible pressure whilst producing a nice even fan pattern (no tails and feathered edges).. so start off an a low setting and spray tests on some brown paper, and ease up the pressure 👍 ..then move relatively quickly, you can’t comprehend how quick material is sprayed 👍 ..yeah you can spray solvents, you just need to use the appropriate cleaner to flush the sprayer after you’ve finished.. keep in touch my friend, all the best on your spraying journey.. regards Pete 🙏

    hi again, great video and wonder if you can help? we have been using the control pro 515 tips, great for most things and recently bought the Wagner HEA ProTip 515 and it doesn't fit the guard on this machine, do we need the TradeTip 3 Guard? The differences are the tips we use at the moment have a sort of hexagonal top whereas the new HEA ProTip 515 has the rounded plastic top like the ones in the video. Hi Pete, really helpful videos, I’ve learnt a lot. I recently got the 250r to renovate my house. I found the control tip 517 had a little running on the walls/ceiling (maybe my technique). So would you suggest a pro tip 515 for Matt emulsion on the walls and a fine finish 208 for skirting using eggshell?

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Рік тому +1

      Hello my friend, really appreciate you watching and supporting the videos.. you’re spot on with your thought process, a 517 is fine for most typical emulsions, but potentially you would have to move quicker.. the flow rate of a .017 is significantly higher than a .015.. you could get a ControlPro 515, although if I recall they cost more than the ProTip HEA 515 (but you would also need the TradeTip holder).. as for the .008 tips, if you’re spraying a thixotropic trim / woodwork paint (one that you could also brush / roller), you’re more than likely going up needs a .010 tip such as a 210 or 310.. the professional fine finish (purple) tips will produce a finer finish.. but if you e had success with the ControlPro 311 then that’s great 👍 ..Keep going my friend, sounds like you’re understanding the technology and you’re doing great 🙏 ..Keep in touch.. happy to help if I can.. regards Pete

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Рік тому +1

      You’re very welcome, glad it helped.. yeah the ControlPro 350 is very popular, and I’ve had some great contribution on the channel from owners of that model.. they too have looked into the possibility of using standard fittings and I believe nothing was found available in Europe.. I understand why the ControlPro uses proprietary size fittings.. it’s to stop these lower pressure rated hoses and accessories being used on ‘professional’ airless units that are rated at a higher pressure and potentially risking injury.. keep in touch, it’ll be great to hear if you find a ‘work around me, likewise if I discover anything I will share with you 👍 regards Pete

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  2 роки тому

      Hello my friend, really appreciate your kind feedback.. apologies for the delay in my response, I’ve been away for a couple of days.. I don’t have first hand experience using the Erbauer unit.. being a fan of all things spray related and wanting to showcase DIY solutions on the PaintHQ channel, I’m tempted to give it a run out 😆 ..first thing to look out for and probably most important, is to purchase a unit with the CE Kitemark.. which I believe the Erbauer units would have.. then if you was a professional and looking to dive into the wonderful world of spraying, I’d invest in a professional unit.. that way you get the true airless spraying experience, pressure gauge, professional fittings and components that last etc.. all helps when learning and worth the investment.. if it’s purely for DIY use, then yeah I’d go for the Wagner 250M over the Erbauer.. Wagner is a quality brand, a market leader with years of research and experience producing units in all spraying sectors.. this is not a slur on Erbauer, I’d suspect they could be a Chinese import (then I’d assume it gets the CE seal of approval).. I could be wrong though, apologies if I am... hope this helps, I’m more than happy to help you in any way I can.. keep in touch my friend.. regards Pete

      @@PaintHQ one last question 🤦‍♂️ you might be able to answer this with your experience. I use water based poly through a gravity feed gun and compressor, the issue I'm having is drying times due to thinning with water. With the airless do you find drying times a problem?

    • @PaintHQ

      It won’t prime now, on prime the motor keeps running & doesn’t build any pressure. I’ve stripped the inlet valve components completely & blown through the sealed outlet valve.
      The sealed inlet ball moves against the spring when pressed. I’ve read this is the main culprit for this machine not spraying, but it looks ok as far as can be tested.

    BONJOUR , super vidéo, claire, net est précise, mais il me vient quand même une petite question . Lors du nettoyage vous employez à peu près 40 litres d'eau pour une peinture acrylique , mais pour une peinture glycéro on ne peut pas employer 40 litres de white spirit ?. Quel est le procédé à utiliser pour nettoyage peinture glycéro; Merci pour votre réponse

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  3 місяці тому

      bonjour mon ami... c'est une très bonne question 👍 Vous devez toujours utiliser le nettoyant approprié, comme le white spirit -- cependant vous n'en aurez pas besoin autant que vous le pensez... curculez de petites quantités -- juste assez pour amorcer la pompe puis circulez dans le tuyau... puis une autre petite quantité, et ce que vous constaterez, c'est qu'il élimine le solvant très rapidement, potentiellement plus rapidement qu'une base d'eau 👍 L'inconvénient général de ce pulvérisateur, est la taille du tuyau propriétaire, la quantité de peinture pour être pulvérisée et ne pas pouvoir échanger le tuyau. merci pour votre question, j'espère que cela aide.. cordialement Pete 🇫🇷💙💯

    Hi mate I’m thinking of buying this, quick question I wanna know if it would be any good for painting doors and door frames with oil based undercoat and satin wood on new builds, and what tips would be best for a fine finish? Cheers

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Рік тому +2

      Hello my friend.. this unit certainly can spray oil / solvent based products, and you could achieve a very good finish with fine finish tips.. just a couple of points though.. first, one big drawback is the size and length of hose (if I recall 9 or 10 metre), and siphon feed, takes quite a bit of material to ‘prime’ the system.. which you get get back out of the hose and return to the can, but you would probably need to spray out if at least 5 litre cans.. and unfortunately the hose and fittings are a proprietary size so you can’t swap to a smaller line ☹️ ..then secondly, being a DIY unit, you don’t get the true airless experience, by that I mean, a fully adjustable pressure and a gauge to see what pressure you’re at.. don’t get me wrong, it’s a very nice / popular unit that would have helped many a DIYer and perhaps those wanting to try out airless spraying.. my recommendation, especially if your a professional, is invest in a PRO unit, something with a smaller line (or you can swap out to a smaller line), a pressure gauge.. and I like a hopper (especially for fine finish spraying).. I know it’s more of an investment, but you mention new builds, perhaps the Graco GXFF Cordless world be a good fit ? ..you’ll soon get a return on your investment 🙏
      Keep in touch my friend, happy to help if I can.. regards Pete

      So sorry for not replying sooner, hope this reaches you in time.. I've tended to find F&B emulsions 'problematic' to spray, potentially due to the pigments used -- I tend to prefer a 515 when spraying most emulsions -- you may benefit swapping out to the TradeTip professional tip guard and using the HEA Pro tips (such as the 515).. using a 515 Vs a 517, you get reduced flow, which gives you a bit more control (you can move the gun a little slower).. if you're having success with the 517, then that's great, keep going my friend, an airless sprayed finish is awesome.. hope this reaches you in time -- keep in touch, I'll always reply -- regards Pete

    • @PaintHQ

      Ah cool.. adding a max 10% water to the emulsion will certainly help ease the paint for spraying.. yes my friend, use the supplied 517 for the emulsion / silk (walls / ceiling) and yes the 311 for woodwork / trim paint.. but don’t thin that, just the emulsion 👍

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  2 роки тому

      Hey buddy, for the primer and I’m guessing the eggshell is a decorative product (suitable to use brush / roller).. I’d go for a 310 Purple Fine Finish tip.. like in the video, the 311 let’s out a bit more paint.. you could get runs if not moving quick enough.. certainly a 310 is generally used for spraying trim / woodwork.. then if the paint is a lower viscosity (thinner), perhaps you could warm the paint too.. a 208 or 308 are great tips for a bit more control (308 is a wider 6” pattern).. hope this helps, let me know how you get on.. regards Pete

      The professional PURPLE tips will work as long as you swap out the ‘DIY’ ControlPro Tip Guard for a Wagner professional TradeTip 3 7/8” Tip Guard 👍 ..Equally you could swap out the Tip Guard for a Graco RAC X Tip Guard and you could use Graco FF LP Tips.. these will atomise fine finish materials at lower pressure 👍 ..Hope this helps my friend.. `Hi ..can you help me- I have Wagner Control pro 150M .That device does not have the ability to adjust the pressure that's why when I paint doors or windows in a vertical position, there are leaks, tears...I used a 311 .I tried with different density to get a better result, but it was not worth it
    .Would it be better with 208?Or to buy a wagner 250? Thanks

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Рік тому +1

      Hello buddy, I’m happy to help if I can.. your thinking is spot on.. whilst pressure control and even a pressure gauge is very important, the pressure setting doesn’t directly control the flow, the tip orifice size does.. so your logic to use a 208 would certainly be less flow.. that’s only if the paint can go through a .008, and the 150M has .008 tip support.. if the paint you’re using is also for brush and roller, I’d go for a .010 (but that’s not much less than the .011 that you’ve used).. but another thing you can do is spread the paint over a wider fan, so a 410 would give a thinner coating Vs a 311, but the compromise is the 8” fan, that’s quite wide, but could be useful on doors.. hope that makes sense.. a 250M is an upgrade, still a DIY unit, you have pressure settings (1-5), so not a true control of the pressure, and still no pressure gauge.. a Graco GXFF (GX19) would meet your needs and more, but it’s a bit more of an I investment.. hope this helps, keep in touch my friend, would love to hear how you get on.. regards Pete

      Hey buddy.. I can confirm the gun that comes with the 250M has a standard tip guard thread size 7/8”.. (the hose fittings are proprietary, along with the ControlPro tips).. so if you would like to use HEA ProTip / or Fine Finish (Purple) tips, you would need to use TradeTip 3 Tip Guard 7/8”.. if I recall I demo the 250M gun and the ability to use QTech QuickConnect fittings with the 7/8” QuickConnect adaptor in this video..

    Can you spray upvc windows with that

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Рік тому

      Hi Steven, that’s a very good question.. I’d recommend a HVLP (Airspray Compressor or HVLP Turbine) for spraying uPVC.. whilst you can get fine atomisation with fine finish airless tips, you don’t have the control that you get with HVLP.. With a good HVLP setup you can control the fluid flow and fan width, which is an advantage when spraying UPVC and the typically low viscosity products.. hope this helps my friend, keep in touch.. regards Pete

      Hi Sebastian.. a shellac base is very good at ‘stain blocking’ and holding back the tannins in wood - which could happen with oak.. but you will need Methylated spirits / denatured alcohol to clean - if that’s your preferred primer, that’s ok 👍 ..I tend to use a WB stain blocking primer, such as AkzoNobel WP198 ..
