I just recently got the G3. I'm 43 years old and have been playing pedals since the Boss Metal Zone days back in high school. The G3 is honestly the best distortion pedal I've ever played, EVER. I want all 3 of these now.
I have a G4 going into a late 90’s solid state Fender Deluxe 112 and it sounds great in a full band. Very present and gnarly. Next session going to run a Wampler Euphoria in front for solos.
I bought a G4 Blackout Edition... That thing is like strapping into a 70's muscle car and going for a joyride... My favorite distortion pedal bar none... (Although i have not had the honor to try a G3 yet)
I used to lug around a Mesa Stilleto II head with Mesa 4x12 as my live rig. I have since down sized to a 2X12 (vintage 30s) with a Revv G3 going into an Orange TerrorStamp. Clean tight high gain tone that is plenty loud for stage at a quarter of the weight and space. Great pedal and glad it is made by a Canadian company. Looking forward to trying out a G20 and a Generator.
The G2 is the only one I don't own! I was surprised by how much gain you had dialed in on your pedals. I have a deluxe reverb blackface, that I use primarily (as well as a Generator 7-40). Great demo!
Brilliant demo of what these babies can do. Fantastic playing and feel Shawn! Love these pedals, I have the G3 and and have the aggression switch up to Blue. Nice meaty sound.
i love when people review pedals with real amp like that(so i can hear the strength and the weakness of the pedal) not amp sim, cab sim or whatsoever..good job shawn..btw im your fan.
@@TheoPwet a little late here but have you found a good metal tone with the g4 through the Hot Rod Deluxe? I have a Twin Reverb and I’m debating whether I should buy this pedal.
@@ninjamonkey1 Hi, i haven't use the G4 that much for my metal tone (my Peavey 6505+ is back from repair so...) but what i can say about it (i've try some others distortion pedals on the Hotrod) it's one of the most "natural" sound for this kind of pedal. Not sure for Djent stuff it is the best (the G4) but i guess Fender Combo + Disto Pedal is not the best choice for that kind. Anyway i think it's way better than a Boss for exemple, the G4 have less compression for me, more clarity. G4 on Fender Crunch canal was great (more boost) but you wil need to push a bit your amp for the sweet spot. What pickups do you use ? Any other idear on pedal ?
I have a positive grid bias head and I’m thinking of getting either the purple or red one and boosting it with a tube screamer through the effects return and hopefully using the tube screamer as a clean sound when I turn the distortion pedal off.
Great demo. I'm leaning towards the G4. It has a terrific tube bite. I'm a big fan of using Fenders as pedal platforms, something I've been doing since the 80s when I realized I prefered Fenders to Marshalls. I owned Marshalls, Boogies, Peaveys, many other amps back then, but I loved the tones and versatility I could get by boosting a Fender, like a Deluxe Reverb. I was sort of an odd duck in the shred scene of the 80s because few players back then, especially in that scene, were using Fenders as often as I did. I didn't want to lug a Marshall stack, or my extremely expensive Boogie combo, and in that scene there was little interest in Fenders. I would either use one of my own Fenders or borrow one from a friend for a gig. One of the most common compliments I'd get was for how clear and thick and cut through my tone was all at once. My main pedals back then were a Rat and MXR Distortion Plus. I'd take both along with a chorus, flange, delay and Phase 90 in my gig bag.
This is really a great way to get the REVV sounds on a budget. I have played with these pedals and they really are very good. Would be cool to do a video with these now with the Tilt pushing them.
I'm using my G3 into a Yamaha thr100hd amp head with custom built 2 x 12 celestion v30s, guitar to G3 to noise gate straight in, one channel is set on clean with eq and tube set one way and other channel set on solid with eq and tube set another way combining both channels together for pretty awesome tone, love my G3, one of a kind pedal for sure. Good as the Yamaha sounds I'm still lustin for a real tube amp like blackstar ht 50 mkii to use amp tone and have G3 run thru it
One other thing tho, no matter what other tube amp I get the G3 will be with me for life, unless I get a Revv generator 120 lol, please help me Jesus get one!!
I use a Mesa Boogie 45 watt Nomad 1x12 combo...the last few years I've started using drive pedals into the clean channel(set very clean).....and after seeing your video on trying a little "dirt" or gain to the clean sound, that really sounded sooooo much better! And after your demos on the Revv pedals, I went out and got the G4.....what a GREAT overdrive/distortion pedal!!! This set-up really gives me even more tones that just using the clean and two gain channels in the amp! And if I'm using one of the lead channels as a core tone, the G4 makes a great solo boost for massive sustain! You got me sold on Revv products!!!! Now I wanna buy one of their amps!!!!! Oh crap.....my wife just read that........
I’m using the Revv G4 into a Vox AC15 with Celestion Greenbacks, amazing tone. Haven’t tried the FX loop with the G4 pedal, but the tones I get from the Vox Genlex gold Lion 12ax7 preamp, EHX EL84 power amp tubes and the G4 is magic.
I'm looking for a high gain pedal to pair up with my Vox AC15 with Celestion greenback as well. Glad to hear the Revv G4 works well are there other gain pedals you've had luck with? Do you play guitars with single coils and/or humbuckers? I'm getting a really good sound with a tone city black tea pushed by a Ibanez mini tube screamer with Echobrain delay. Packs a nice vintage punch just want something with a little more oomph.
Hi John, I use both single and hummies. My 2 that I play out with iarr a Tele with a Dimarzio Norton P190 hum in the neck with a CS Texas special bridge, Charvel Pro mod wit SD full shred Bridge, SD AH2 neck. I do have a Friedman buxom boost before the G4 it’s on when I’m using the Tele bridge pup only for a little boost and thickness.
I've been eyeballing that G3 for some time now for my setup. I run a stereo setup so it's a little different. My pedal board is small, I have a Earthquaker Swissthings pedal to organize my board for specific features it has , absolutely amazing pedal. First in line is a Wah , to a Ibanez Nu-tube screamer and a mxr Wylde overdrive (for some gain stacking). Next is a mxr stereo chorus and these hit the front of both amps. The A side amp is a Carvin X50B with 4x12 cab and B side is a Marshall jcm800 4010 combo. I have an old ART sge effects processor in the effects loop on the Carvin. So you can see I have overdrives and booster, I need to fill that distortion gap and the G3 is the one I keep coming back to , it just seems to fit what I want, can't seem to real see anything else working. I use to , many years ago, I had a Boss HM2 that I seriously regret selling now lol. Always fun playing with this stuff during these crappy Winnipeg winters lol. Great content, cheers!
Fender 61 Vibrolux reissue as my clean and pedal platform. I recently added your Tilt pedal- awesome! I am looking for an additional lead pedal- that G3 sound could be it
Sounds amazing! I still use a solid state Crate 2x12 amp. I dream to own a tube amp one day. I've been eyeballing the Revv G20. Also, nice Legacy trucker cap, love those.
I'm running the G2 into my Fender Bassbreaker 15 set very clean and it sounds excellent. But, I have been thinking about switching out the Bassbreaker for a DR (I think I prefer the Silverface 65 version) for a clear and crisp clean platform. I take another out into a Strymon Iridium set to the Deluxe Reverb with York Audio DR IR cab (AMAZING!) and that feed goes DI to mixer / FOH / IEMS if I am using them... Best of both worlds! Real amp behind me and killer DI tones to front of house. The G2 is my mainstay rock pedal - by itself for rock rhythm and stacked with a Timmy for leads.
Hey, i have question for you. I also have a fender bassbreaker and i bought now the revv g3. The pedal it is on delivery and i wonder how to connect the g3 to the amp. On the front to the "input" or backside to the "return"? How you connected the g2?
I'm three years late, but just bought that very amp and have been trying to figure out how to get good distortion tones out of it. I think i'm leaning toward the G3. The G2 looks like it is maxed-out on gain to get what the G3 is doing at noon, and i am looking at these pedals because i'm not getting enough gain from the Friedman Smallbox which is my first attempt at this. I probably wouldn't go as far as the G4, but i dunno-at this point, i may just be choosing because of the colors.... Oh, snap. Just found your other Revv pedal videos, and i see there's a *gold* G2.... Well now.
Yeah, i found it odd. The other guitarist in our band has a 3 and a 4, and they sound miles apart. We just liked certain tones out of them on very different settings. Compared to my 120 though, i find the 3 to be closest to the actual amp, 4 less so.
The gain knob on the G2 is set at 3 o'clock, whereas the gain knob on the G4 is at like 9 o'clock; that might be part of why they sound so similar. The G3 and G4 have a lot more gain on tap, but the sound of the gain itself is somewhat similar. But I've seen comparison demos where the G3 and G4 sound very different.
I have all of these pedals and been messing with them into a PRS Dallas head into a 1 x 12 compact with V30 in it. Admittedly I have been using effects ( delay chorus ) after them. The G2 works great but I have to set the drive at max. The Red is a little finicky ( this gave me a good guide how to use it properly) the blue is really noisy outside of the aggression switch , even when using my Strats with Joe Barden PUs, I will definitely experiment more now thanks to this vid, thanks Shawn, you wallet buster LOL.
my amp is a Quilter Tone Block 201 dialed pretty clean.. it drives a Port City OS 1X12 loaded with the Celestion NEO Creamback.. I use my G3 for my hard rock to metal sounds.. I stack my EP into it just for solos.. it doesn't really push the volume but gives a little more singing sustain.. which brings me to the question: have you tried stacking any of the G* pedals?
I play through a 1965 Fender Vibrolux Reverb. It sounds fantastic clean. The 2x10 configuration coupled with 55 year old components make it quite fussy for overdrives. He's a great player, but shies away from showing all the features of the pedals. I just watched him do this to the Friedman Small Box, didn't show the higher side of gain so WE know what it does. He has all the pedals set to get identical tones. I won't thumb down. But I want to. And I won't watch his stuff ever again, as I don't care for his one sided reviews. I'm deciding between the G3 and G4 - likely the 3 because it covers more ground for my needs. If I need to go more metal, I'll get the 4. I'll be selling that OCD to buy the 3. Thx fellas, you made me love pedals again
@@b.scottfarthingsworth Great to hear dude! Thank you.
They sound the same. Like all overdrives do. Overdrive market is a big scam. With a good amp you can make any of them sound like all of them.
They don’t all sound the same, but I know what you mean. The od/distortion market is saturated.
